  1. I agree. It was one of those cars that I liked just because it was so different and funky. If General Motor's rotary engine program had not been cancelled, the Pacer may have had more of a chance since it was supposed to get that engine.
  2. Well, there was no trip involved but the longest amount of time I ever stayed awake was back when I was finishing up graduate school. I stayed up for 3 days to finish up a huge programming project. When I finally went to sleep, I slept for two and a half days. My roommate thought I had died. I was messed up for weeks after that so I don't deprive myself of sleep anymore.
  3. Dude, I am so sorry to hear this. A sudden drop in income like that is a huge adjustment. I hope things turn around soon.
  4. Hey, I was curious as to what had happened with you. I read your 'Day in the Life...Day 1' but never saw a subsequent entry. Hope all goes well for you.
  5. If it's pressure and/or temperature sensitive, you might be heading for a root canal. I just went through one and I have another tooth that is beginning to show the same symptoms. Not a fun way to spend a bunch of money.
  6. I've been to Fallingwater twice and the Hollyhock House in L.A. We have the Boynton House here in Rochester, New York and there are several homes in Buffalo. The two biggest being the Darwin Martin complex and the Martin's summer home, Graycliff. Both are nearing completion of major restorations. Very impressive what they've done there. You should check out the websites. http://www.darwinmartinhouse.org/ http://graycliff.bfn.org/
  7. 'Usonian' is a term that refers to a housing concept created by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was intended to be a low cost, owner built home which was way ahead of its time. If by some miracle I actually get to build a new house someday, I'd like to build one of these. So, I'm Usonia.

    Ugh! Wretched stuff.
  9. Well, at least it's not winter!
  10. I don't want to go off on a rant here, but the problem isn't just California, it's the whole country. The vast majority of politicians are willing to do whatever to guarantee their reelection and typically that means giving away the farm. The population behaves like children asking for more and more without ever considering how everything is going to be paid for and the long term ramifications of their greed. These two things put together are a recipe for disaster and it simply can't go on forever. I believe we are seeing the beginnings of the end of the dominance of the US in world affairs. We can't continue to be a world power when we are as far in debt as we are to other countries. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
  11. I don't know who John Mack Carter is, but I think his statement is pretty silly. If the 'commitment' requires you to lose your life as it did the pig, then you are unable to make any future contributions or commitments and are of no use to anyone. So, the lesson for me is that you must have balance in all areas of your life and don't be afraid to say 'No' when you need to.
  12. I wish I had a camera as I've seem some true atrocitiies here in the Rochester, New York area. The most weird were a previous generation Dodge Dakota, a PT Cruiser and a previous generation Scion Xb. They all had those fake adhesive oval portholes on them. This has to be some strange fad that caught on without me knowing about it.
  13. The way that structure fell, it lkind of looked fake. You would have thought one end of the roof structure would have been attached to the bank building and it would not have just fallen over that way. Weird!
  14. you gotta love karma.
  15. Nothing more I can say than what others have said better than me. My deepest sympathies.
  16. Canada is a very nice place. I've never had a bad experience when I've been there for a weekend. Plus, their border crossing guards are much more pleasant than when I come back to the US and have to deal with ours. What's up with that??
  17. I’ve always had sort of a schizophrenic attitude towards gay pride events. When I was first coming out multiple years ago, they were a source of comfort to me. The ‘safety in numbers’ thing helped me a lot and I’m grateful they were there. However, I was also always embarrassed by the behavior of some people at these events. Now that I have been out for a long time and am comfortable with being gay, I rarely attend the pride events anymore. I’m glad they are still there for the people who might need them but I truly believe they’ve become more of an excuse for people to behave badly in public. You see people dressing and acting in ways they never do any other time of the year. That’s hardly a source of ‘pride’ for me. It’s just sad.

Couldn't help but think of this and chuckle...from the Wikipedia list of made up words from the Simpsons: Shirt-wiener From "Thank God It's Doomsday", while hunting for a winning "photo" to be hung in the school lobby for the rest of the year, the Springfield Elementary Photo Club sees Principal Skinner's shirt sticking out of his pants zipper. Nelson declares "Look! The Principal has a shirt-wiener!" Much photo snapping ensues to the chagrin of Skinner.
  19. Boxers = grandpa underwear They bunch up, provide zero support and are a complete turn off visually. Boxer briefs are better, but they ride up under pants too so they are out except for bedtime. They are what I wear to bed. Thongs...well, ugh. I can't say enough bad things about them physically or visually. Way too feminine on a guy. So, that leaves tighty whites as my underwear of choice. Plus, nothing is hotter on a guy in my humble opinion. No colors, just white!!!
  20. After nearly a year of working extra hours and weekends, the project has gone live and I'm starting to have a life again. So here I am at the kickoff weekend for summer and I got nothin'. I may go to a bbq with some friends on Sunday but that isn't definite yet. Other than that all I have facing me is a long list of tasks to do around the house that I've had to put off because of work and of course, I don't want to do any of them. I hope this isn't an indicator of the rest of my summer.
  21. Yep, that's my biggest complaint with my new Malibu. My previous was a Maxx and while it wasn't the most attractive car, it was very practical. I really like a hatchback. While I was still shopping around and I opened the trunk on the Malibu I had to laugh at how big it was and how small the opening was. The new Malibu is a much better looking and far more refined car but I still miss the versatility of my Maxx.

    Ragin'

Is it legal to drive in Pa. while holding a cell phone? It's not in New York, not that anybody really pays attention to the law anyway. The annoying thing is that when people do stuff like that, that doesn't result in an accident, they know they can get away with it and you can't do anything to them because then it's your fault. When I'm omnipotent ruler of the universe, things will be different!!
  23. I think this is related, if not, just ignore it. In the beginning, attraction to a person is purely physical. Think about walking around in a public place where there are a lot of people. You scan the crowd and you can pick out various people you are attracted to. This is before you have even spoken to them. If you do speak to them and start to get to know their personality, the attraction begins to move from the physical to the mental/emotional. As the mental/emotional attraction begins to grow, it affects your physical attraction to the person. For me, if a person turns out to be someone whose personality is not 'attractive' to me, I also lose the physical attraction to them. Now the thing that I've often wondered is if there have ever been studies done on people who are blind from birth and what impact that has on their sexual orientation. Since physical attraction is mainly visual, how does that affect your sexuality if you have never seen the physical characteristics of men versus women?
  24. I went cruising the car lots this weekend and got to see the new Vibe for the first time in the flesh. OY! What a misshapen mess it is. I can't say a single good thing about it, inside or out. I truly detest Toyota's latest styling trend of the melted look with these subtle character lines and dips and raised areas in the body panels. There is no mistaking this thing as being Toyota based. Pontiac should be embarrassed to have it sitting in the showroom.
