  1. I didnt really have a bad car but a 1981 Caprice with a 229 V6 is not a performance car. It wasnt too bad until you got in the highway. The 307 in the Bonneville sometimes is almost as bad for performance. You can make it go but you have to force it.
  2. People are looking more practical now. A 2-door in a lot of peoples eyes isnt practical. I wouldnt mind one someday too. We will have to see.
  3. I just had a vacation in 2003. I should be good for another 10 years or so.
  4. Medium rare for most beef. If a place has any faith in the quality of the meat they sell they wont have a problem giving you medium rare stuff.
  5. Wisconsin doesnt require insurance. We have a big problem of uninsured drivers here.
  6. I wonder if overheating was a problem with these when you consider that the engine was in the back where it couldnt get decent airflow. Pretty revolutionary stuff though considering this is 1948.
  7. They would have to kill a good Riviera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, our dealership too has a few CFC vehicles that are really too good to be killed. A Ford truck much like yours that looks nearly perfect, An older Chevrolet truck that is about the same. There is a 94-Ram too. A few Astro vans, a Durango that looks perfect. An older Toyota pickup. A big white Chevy cargo van. A few Suburbans. At least in my case these vehicles didnt make way for foreign vehicles since this is a Chevrolet/Pontiac dealer.
  8. Hopefully the new Kias are lemons. Like I said in another thread here it should have been worded that the replacement has to be from the big 3. Support our economy. Not sending the money to foreign countries. They could have done 2 things at once with that. But no they had to be single tracked like always.
  9. I dont mind the foreign cars being destroyed but some of the nice older American ones that are giving their lives so somebody can give money to the foreign companies. I am not too critical of this program since it is doing its intended purpose. The one thing they should have written into the thing was that the new vehicle had to come from one of the big 3. Thats just me.
  10. I checked my dealer to see what they had and most arent going to be a loss there were a few good ones. A Ford Expedition which I suppose the program is trying to get off the road. A nice Dodge Durango. A few nice Astro/Safari vans. Other than that the rest arent really going to be a loss. There is an older Toyota pickup(Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
  11. I think that the program isnt always a bad thing but there should have been a few more provisions in it. 1. The replacement should be from one of the big 3. No trading a Chevrolet for a Honda. 2. If it is something old where there are usable parts they should have the discretion to sell it for parts. Engine included. 3. If by chance somebody trades something old enough to be a classic that has some life then they should be able to sell it. Like the 1981 and 1985 I have just for examples
  12. We keep it so it rolls out the front. We too keep plenty of spares so we dont run out. That reminds me, I need to refill the my bathroom cabinet, I think the basement is fine and the other bathroom takes care of itself.
  13. Pay my house off and my sisters, Get a new Camaro and a new truck, Do what needs done on the 1981 and 1985, I would keep the Impala since I like it a lot. Buy mom a new Aveo and Give hers to whichever one of the nieces needs it. Give my uncles 2003 Dodge Ram to his foster son and get him a brand new one. My Aunt is driving Grandmas 1999 Malibu, Get her what she wants in new and give the Malibu to whichever of my nices needs it. It only has 25,000 miles on it. Same with my Brother-in-Laws 2001 Dodge Neon. Give it to one of the kids. Get him something new and Replace my sisters 1998 Venture. You can buy a Garage condo here so I think I would get one of those to put the vehicles I dont need at home. I might see about a 1972-73 or so Impala/Caprice and maybe a 1978 or so Camaro.
  14. Just driving the 2 of mine and keeping them in shape is good enough for me.
  15. You'll get this sorted out one way or the other. Like you said, sometimes there are alternatives ways to getting what you want without ever raising your voice or a fist that hurt way more than the other 2 ways. Heh Heh.
  16. The people that think their Toyotas and Hondas are just far superior to anything GM has. How many 1981 or 1985 Toyotas does one see in the shape that my 2 old ones are in? Not many.
  17. Where should I start? Thats funny that somebody would say that about the Monte Carlos being pieces of crap. Must be a Toyota/Honda lover. People dont have the nerve to say stuff like that to me. I dealt with enough of that as a kid because people thought I was slow/retarted that I dont tolerate that now. It is also amazing to me sometimes how people comment that a person(myself) is 33 years old, single, with no kids. There must therefore be something wrong with me according to said people to be in this stage of my life and not be married and have children. I have 4 nieces and a great nephew which at times is more than enough. Got a new house, new car,2 old nice cars, what more does one need? Maybe we dont want to see MB's comments either.
  18. Glad to hear you have gotten to drive the 4 Monte Carlos. Always good to be able to get the cars out when you can. I sure enjoy my 2.
  19. Nothing wrong with keeping 80's cars alive. I have 2 of them. People always forget sthese cars. They think only the 1950's and 60's cars are the only classics worth anything. The 80';s are part of history too. I actually liked the 1982-94 Cavalier over the 1995-2005 one.
  20. 2008 Impala-5620 miles 1985 Caprice-120,900 miles. 1981 Bonneville-119,100 miles. 1986 John Deere Lawn Tractor-about 250 hours 2007 Sears Craftsman Lawn Tractor-about 15 hours.
  21. Nothing yet. When I do I will let you all know.
  22. I believe that is how they came from GM. Thats a 1973-75. If you look at the 1976-77 above that one it too has those same fenders.
  23. It may not get hot as long here as some of you but when it does it gets humid. Lucky all of my A/Cs in the cars work. The Impala is great as to be expected on a new car. The Bonnevilles must have been made on a good day. It has a new compressor but other than that and the switch to R-134 it will do 34-36 degrees air temps even in 95 degree heat the other day. The Caprice is so-so. It works well enough if you dont let it sit out in the sun and you keep moving. And Satty, dont be surprised that you need a comprassor. This is usually the 1st thing to go in these cars. Lucky it is real easy to get to.
  24. I would love to do more on my cars but dont have the time or mechanical ability to do it. I did find out how the A/C works in all of them. Impala good as one would expect in a new car which is to say it works very well. 1981 Bonneville. This one has always had a great setup. As long as it has R-134 in it it will pull vent temps from 36-38 degrees even in the middle 90's we had today. I HATE heat so it is important this part of all my cars works. 1985 Caprice. This one works good but it isnt above average. If you sit at a stop light or in a parking lot it doesnt like to cool well. If you leave it in a parking lot in hot weather and need to cool it off it is going to take a awhile. Did the same excercise as the Bonneville and the vent temps were about 42-44 degrees. Just a difference in systems I guess.
