Ouch!  I don't think I said the Tundra was balls to the wall, did I?  Nope there's my quote, looks like I didn't.

Well, you implied "balls to the wall" in my opinon.

You can't honestly tell me that based on these pics that it looks like GM really brought their best game, can you?  I didn't say the trucks were bad, what I was attempting to convey was, that the trucks look like GM played it safe. I love GM, no doubt and would never buy a Tundra.  I'm just sick of GM bringing out kickass concept trucks and then lowering the bar with the production vehicles.

170160

I think GM brought a great game here, probably not their best but GM hasn't taken much of a radical route when it comes to trucks. The only exeception in my book would be a 1988 CK Silverado compaired to the previous truck from 1987. There is an obvious and large contrast there.

And by "kick ass concept trucks," I gather you mean the GMC Terradyne and Chevy Cheyenne. No offense, but one was a little too bold and the other a little too soft.

After looking at the x-cab picture again...there does not appear to be a latch for the window in the rear half-door (like in the current trucks)...so I am guessing that the windows in the back doors must go down. That could be a window switch on the armrest of the back door...

I wonder if that is standard or optional? Optional I am guessing...

I'm going to save my final thought until I see the trucks in person....

I've heard that they already plan to scale back some production of the new trucks...what a shame... :(

At least GM had a plan, I guess. Stupid gas prices..prob be 4 bucks by fall..

Like it or not, boys and girls-Gas prices will make or break these trucks.

I don't care how good they are...

That being said-They are looking good-better every time I see em'.....

THe kicker for me is how many of these engines can run E85- I'm hoping all of them.

If so, I could kick the thoughts of another compact car for a nice, shiney, new truck....:thumbsup:

Like I said in other places, I can NOT believe they are selling that manny Cadies, and Denali's to use up ALL the 6-speeds they are making.

If the SUVs/and trucks all came out 6 months early then in 6 months of sales I'm kinda expecting the 6 speeds to be in most if not all the trucks.

Oh yeah!!!!

GET RID OF THE GOOFY LUGGAGE RACKS ON THE TRUCKS!!!!!!!

170265

Are you kidding me? The denali's and escalade's spend about 7-14 days on a lot, OR LESS, before they are sold. Everyone one of the 6spd transmissions the general is making right now is in a product that is bought quickly. It takes time to ramp it up.

Why not?  The media sure as hell will be, so GM needs to make sure their interiors are up to snuff.  The same bland, cheap matte-black radio insert isn't going to cut it, its that simple.  No matter what GM does to the rest of the interior, that radio insert always makes it look worse, simply because they do NOTHING to fix it.  They could swap out the buttons and face for some faux-aluminum or piano-black, but no, they just pull the same radio the put in the ass-tastic Impala and slap it in the Silverado.  I mean, its not like GM isn't CAPABLE of making it piano-black.

Posted Image

Same exact radio, only in the Sky they put a piano-black finish on the face.  Its amazing to me that out of GMs interior range of vehicles, the Sky is the only vehicle with an interior that totally blows the competition out of the water.  Hell, even the radio insert they were putting in the Equinox had an aluminum face on it!!!!

I just don't get it.

170230

Um no offense, but I don't want the radio unit in my truck to be "shiny piano black"

I think if you polled most GM truck drivers they'd agree...

Why?? As far as I'm concerned, the 4.8 doesn't need to even be in the mix. What happened to the 220hp 4.3??? All they need for engine options is a 220hp 4.3, 5.3 and 6.0. There are no manufacturing cost savings in making the 4.8 vs 5.3.

170261

I meant get rid of the 195HP V6 and add a more powerful engine, not add yet another one to the list.

Yeah, I do not think they would mind after being subject to the current-gen interiors. However, the rest of the competition has moved on in terms of interior design and refinement in the truck category and GM has to move with it, also, or lose sales. A crappy interior is great for a work truck, no doubt, but the market for luxurious, feature-laden trucks has grown.

The urban cowboys and their families are the ones who'll demand the top tier interiors. That's exactly who that new Tundra interior is built for. A contracter or farmer won't care too much about the plastics and colour, just as long as it's solid and built to last. GM's got to appeal to both markets, and I'm sure they did.

I hope GM has put time into making an interior that is at least class meeting, which isn't too hard considering the Ram's, Titan's and F-150's interiors. As Sci mentioned earlier, if the interiors are like the ones in the SUV's, GM shouldn't have much of a problem moving these.

As for gas prices... if you want a truck, chances are gas prices aren't an issue. To be honest, those who are considering a Kia Spectra, likely aren't going to even look at a Sierra SLE 1500.

The GMC looks really good to me but the Silverado looks so bland but that is what most truck buyers will want. The Interior looks kinda bland but I'll wait for final judgement.

170314

Just remember that the interior shown is the "work truck" dash. The upper level dash is going to be the same interior, or very similiar, as the suv's.

Ok, I've just not seen that kind of responce whare I'm at.

Like I've been stating around here and other places.

If the SUV's came out about 6 months early, then they should be (ramped up) getting the trannies very soon!!. Then 6 months (or however earlier the trucks came out) from the Pick ups relaese they should be getting them.

If not then GM obviously missed the boat on when they were going to get the 6 speeds (I hope ya'll understood that LOL)

I'm reading a lot of opinions and agree, for the most part, on the positive ones. Regarding the more critical negative opinions, it's highly unlikely that we'll see any significant impact against their sales as a result.

Make no mistake, these trucks will sell well. They won't be everything for everybody; for instance, unless there are aspects of other trucks that keep them a step lower, I don't expect this truck to win '4x4' or 'Offroad' - "...of the Year" awards with a lack of a manual transmission, etc. They will still sell.

Payload and towing capacity, fuel-mileage technology, diverse styling between the divisions, convenience advancements in bed and interior design, and just the fact that these models are all new in engineering...

...they will still sell.

I remember hearing something about a fixed window on the extended cabs, I think its optional power window or fixed. There is no manual open.

It doesn't matter what YOU want (no offense ^_^ ). People that buy upper-level trims are pretty much getting a premium/near luxury truck. Leather, sunroof, premium sound, big horsepower. The interior needs to reflect the price tag, and the same dull, cheap-ass matte-black radio just shouldn't be in a $35k+ vehicle. At least make it OPTIONAL.

These trucks look dated already.  If this is what we got in 2002, fine...but the exterior design is trailing the competition in a big way.  The sides just are not as clean or modern as the SUVs.  Way too soft.

170312

Respectfully disagree. With the exception of the past 3 years, GM trucks have ALWAYS been conservative and never really pushed the envelope. The 99-02 style, which this is VERY much an evolution of, was conservative even for its time compared to the Ram and F150, and was just an evolution of the previous body style. I think exterior-wise these two trucks are great, especially the Sierra. Its just the interior, specifically the interior in the Z71 and Denali trims, that worry me at this point.

As long as you can't chip the paint away with your fingernails (like in my mom's Venture), I'll be happy.

But I do agree, piano black should at least be optional.

For those that actually use it for trucky stuff and just need a durable rugged truck, it won't matter to them, and they'd actually need the plain-jane interior. But like I said above, when you're buying a vehicle, ANY vehicle trucks being no exception, and you're spending $35k+ and all you're doing is hauling plywood and furniture every now and then and you really just wanted something to say "Look how much money I have!" the regular stereo insert just doesn't cut it. I mean, its a nice piano-black finish in a $23k roadster, yet in $30k, $35k+, and $40k SUVs (Acadia, Enclave, Tahoe Z71), its the same ugly cheapo insert. Just doesn't make since to me.

Funny, I remember in 1988 how people thought GMs new trucks didn't look so hot, then in 1999 they didn't think they went far enough, then in 2003 they thought they went too far, and now . . .

No matter what GM does with their trucks someone just isn't going to like it. Funny, they still sell everything they make.

I just got back from visiting my parents. They recently bought a new suburban LTZ and I must say that if the interior of the trucks looks as nice as the interior of the new tahoe's then GM will have a very nice interior. Outside though, I wish GM would have just copied the new tahoe's front end for the silverado.

I like GMC's attempt to finally distinguish its trucks from Chevy's-let's see if it can continue! Now if GMC can distinguish itself from a GOOD truck-that's another story-a tired theme stylistically-REAL TIRED! Boring, bland, the cabin looks absolutely cramped, and why would GM continue building the ancient 4300 V-6 (that should have died when the last generation was introduced for 1999), not to mention a 4-speed automatic transmission. Can't see the info part (or any but one fuzzy Victory or Sport Red Silverado photo), its too fuzzy. I don't like these trucks based on first official appearence-too small, too unstyled, too quarter-baked, wins only on powertrain and maybe model variety over the vastly roomier Dodge Ram and vastly higher-styled (even if controversial) Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Titan-or Ram, for that matter.

What I think is wierd is that the sierra looks tougher than the silverado while the tahoe looks much tougher than the yukon. At least I think so. I have always liked the sierra, and I think that this sierra is a HUGE step forward for GMC I wish that the front of the yukon looked as tough as the sierra does. Hopefully the face lift the yukon gets in a few years looks as good as the sierra. I like that the silverado is getting the fender flares, and it's a great deal that the GMC is getting a toned down set of flares to appeal to different buyers.

Way to go GM!

Oh, from what I can see I think two tone colors are now dead on these trucks. I don't see any visable crease lines that two tones can follow. I will surely miss two tone paint.

170327

Yeah, but all they offered for the lower color was that unconvincing, bland "Silver" Birch Metallic-no Sandstone, not that boring Navy Blue, Victory Red, anything-so is it really a loss? If anyone can snag a 1996 GMC Yukon/Suburban brochure, check it out-they had vast two-tone combos-White and Dark Blue (or Navy Blue today), that would look good, I'd love to see two-tone come back, just as long as the automakers offer more than some not-even-remotely-convincing silver color.

The fender flares look kind of tacked on, but they make it look nicer-I take back a little of what I said earlier, but the cabs look tiny! If you want to recline the seat or put something behind it, forget it! Come on, this just isn't 1973 anymore! (Its 2007).

The blunt front end of the Silverado would look ok for a Heavy Duty version, but it's kind of stodgy for light duty trucks. Maybe if the front were body color instead of having all that chrome it would look better.

The GMC Is HOT, This is a Truck I could drive with the Duramax and 6 speed allison along with adding the Banks 6Gun kit. This will be a killer on all those over blown, noisy Powerstrokes and Cummings. 8)

Go GM!!!

:gmc:

Now we just need an updated Smilie with these new looks. :P

The silverado/sierra have always been my favorite pick -up i'm sure these are nice as well but i just can't stand that front end , and it looks pretty nuch the same as the old one from every other angle. Big improvement on the interior.

P.S. I really hate hondas. they all suck.

Actually, you have Light Pewter Metallic as your lower color-Silver Birch didn't come until 2004! Actually, it is growing on me, but I prefer the 67U Silverstone/Liquid Silver Metallic. :P

True. :)

As for gas prices though-it is going to depend on how things go.

In my case, a truck for me a want-not a need.

There are quite a few people who "want" rather than need. So I do see some people on the fence right now.....

On the other hand- I could buy an escort to go with my truck if I was that worried... :P

Hmmm...

Well, if we're getting technical about it, the color is ACTUALLY Pewter Metallic (color code 11), not Light Pewter Metallic. Per the window sticker, my colors are Fire Red (74)/Pewter Metallic (11) with Graphite interior trim...

But against the Super Duty?

who knows.

The GMC already resembles the current SD, so I think the HDs will do just fine, style wise. All they have to be is big and brash, and they'll be fine.

I think they look great. The only reason I won't be in a hurry to trade my '03 Silverado is the lack of Quadrasteer on the new ones (I am one of the few who bought that option, and don't want to give it up).

I predict that Ford's reign as king of full sized sales will be over shortly.

I really like the GMC Sierra. Can't wait for the non-Denali version to be shown. I'm really happy that the GMC's don't get those awful looking bed flares that the Chevy does. I agree about the tailgate design too - YUCK! Hopefully the GMC's won;t have that too. Flybrian said a few months back that the Sportside Bed option will be returning too with the GMT-900 pickups. Ocnblu, I'm sure a shortbed regular cab model will be offered (thank God a true regular cab model is still offered!)

I'm thinking a GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab Z71 4wd will join the driveway in 2009, 2010 the latest!!! :)
