There are so many.

Here's another:

Daylight again

Following me to bed

I think about a hundred years ago

How my Fathers bled

I think I see a valley

Covered with bones in blue

All the brave soldiers that cannot get older

Been asking after you

Hear the past a' calling

From Armageddon's side

When everyone's talking and no one

Is listening

How can we decide

Do we find the cost of freedom

Buried in the ground

Mother Earth will swallow you

Lay your body down

Even better for the times:

It's been a long time comin'

It's goin' to be a Long Time Gone.

And it appears to be a long,

appears to be a long,

appears to be a long

time, yes, a long, long, long ,long time before the dawn.

Turn, turn any corner.

Hear, you must hear what the people say.

You know there's something that's goin' on around here,

the surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day.

And it appears to be a long,

appears to be a long,

appears to be a long

time, yes, a long, long, long ,long time before the dawn.

Speak out, you got to speak out against the madness,

you got to speak your mind,

if you dare.

But don't no don't now try to get yourself elected

If you do you had better cut your hair.

`Cause it appears to be a long,

appears to be a long,

appears to be a long,

Time, such a long long long long time before the dawn.

It's been a long time comin'

It's goin' to be a long time gone.

But you know,

The darkest hour is always

Always just before the dawn.

And it appears to be a long, appears to be a long,

appears to be a long

Time before the dawn.

(You better Come In That Kitchen Because It's Got To Be Raining Outside)

Or...

Red and white, blue suede shoes, I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do?

Gimme five, I'm still alive, ain't no luck, I learned to duck.

Check my pulse, it don't change. Stay seventy-two come shine or rain.

Wave the flag, pop the bag, rock the boat, skin the goat.

Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.

Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band.

Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan.

Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues?

I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.

Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.

Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

Back to back chicken shack. Son of a gun, better change your act.

We're all confused, what's to lose?

You can call this song, the United States Blues.

Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.

Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

I know I've hijacked this one, but I have to post one more. I want to leave things on a positive note.

Years ago my heart was set to live on

And I've been tryin hard against unbelievable odds

Gets so hard at times like now to hold on

Guns they wait to be stuck by

And at my side is God

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

People round you tell you that they know

The places they have been, and it's easy to go

They'll zip you up and dress you down, and stand you in their role

You know you don't have to

You can just say no

And there ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

I've been built up and trusted

Broke down and busted

They'll get theirs and we'll get ours if you can just

Hold on

Hold on

Hold on

Hold on

Years ago my heart was set to live on

And I've been tryin hard against unbelievable odds

Gets so hard at times like now to hold on

Gonna fall if I don't fight it

And at my side is God

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

Ain't no one goin to turn me round

I listen almost exclusively to jazz. (Used to listen to classic rock, for its quality, and dance music, for its "yo mama" brand of sassiness, quite a bit more, but now, not so much).

So there's a song the jazz station(s) are playing which MOVES me in the WRONG direction. It irritates me.

I think it's called: Good Morning. Starts out: Good morning....Good moooorning...

Very stupid...sounds like a black guy telling his woman to stay in bed a little longer.

I'm just being gay at the moment... I have Cyndi Lauper's new CD in my car and I keep playing Into the Nightlife over and over... Love the song, and Colton Ford wasn't a bad pick for the eye candy either. :AH-HA_wink:

The song just makes you want to throw on some body glitter and head to the dance floor. :gitfunky:

I had no idea she was still making music...decent song, too.

Right now my song on perpetual repeat is "Dawn of the Dead" by Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Yep Yep... the video was shot at a New York night club called Splash. She's currently on tour. Last time I saw her live was when she was touring with Cher. Cyndi was recently on Graham Norton with Jennifer Saunders (love her too - Fairy Godmother in Shrek, AB FAB, & French & Saunders.) I still have it saved on the DVR.

Just watched the video and looked up the lyrics. Good song... :)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the message, but the premise reminds me of BNL's Pinch Me... except a little darker.

Been listening to a lot of MetallicA lately (naturally)

"That Was Just Your Life" does it for me because sometimes I just want to 'stitch up my eyes and open them just in time to say goodbye' because I'm so sick to death of this society.

"Cyanide" appeals to me a lot because its how I view myself in relation to this society. A.K.A. I seem "completely empty" to you because I don't care about you, don't want to know you and don't care about this life and as a result am patiently awaiting death to confirm what has already happened. (I know it sounds morbid, but read the lyrics and think about it and you'll understand) I'm just so "over" what this society considers valuable and morally correct, so I'd rather not participate.

Sleep and dream of this.

Death angel's kiss.

Brings final bliss.

Completely...

Empty they say.

Death, won't you let me stay?

Empty they say.

Death, hear me call your name.

Call your name!

Suicide, I've already died.

You're just the funeral I've been waiting for.

Cyanide, living dead inside.

Break this empty shell forevermore.

Wait, wait patiently.

Your death-black wings.

Unfolding sleep.

Spreading over.

Say, is that rain or are they tears?

That stained your concrete face for years.

The crying, weeping, shedding strife.

Year after year, life after life.

An air of freshly broken ground.

A concrete angel laid right down.

Upon the grave which swallows fast.

It's peace at last, oh, peace at last.

Forevermore!

It's the funeral I've been waiting for!

(BTW, this song was actually written about alcoholism)

I've also been listening to "The Judas Kiss" a lot and trying to convince myself not to do exactly what the song says.

A few others:

"Holy War... The Punishment Due" by Megadeth appeals to me because I kinda feel like the guy in the song in relation to my tireless fighting for GM and my and my colleagues likely eventual censorship.

"Raining Blood" by Slayer has been spinning a lot too. This song just gives me a sense of empowerment.

"The Axe Shall Fall" by DevilDriver is a nice little revenge tune that gives me solace.

"Living Dead Beat" by Children of Bodom seems like a reflection of self and my attitude about life. I've been playing C.O.B. a lot lately.

But as far as relation to GM and the times, I think a few Lamb of God songs sum it up perfectly: (Bolded are the lines that I think DIRECTLY relate to the situation that this country is in... Think about it)

"As the Palaces Burn"

The fiends have gagged a generation of pacified fools.

Bound by our greed a nation enslaved as corporate tools.

Arise and raze the legacy of their lies.

To realize that this in itself is an ascension.

Towards the day we revolt.

As the seeds you've cast away take hold.

War will be born.

Rejoice, the age of the fall has begun.

We'll dance as the palaces burn.

A shot gun blast into the face of deceit.

You'll gain your just reward.

We'll not rest until the purge is complete.

You will reap what you've sown.

My redemption lies in your demise.

In such a world as this does one dare to think for himself?

The paradox of power and peace will destroy itself.

"Vigil"

Our father thy will be done.

I have denied this life its worth.

I will not be the victim.

Sickness to you my master

Here's to getting worse.

Hope it kills you faster.

Show me how it hurts to rot from the inside out.

This vigil burns.

Until the day our fires overtake you.

Our father we forsake you.

Blessed be his name.

Nothing now the same.

Ask me why I hate

Why I've prayed to see the nation that I loved disintegrate

And gladly give my life

That revolution regenerates.

In honor of the strife of those who've died

In generations before for your blood stained glory

I reject you

I deny you

I defy you to continue.

Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered.

"Laid To Rest"

If there was a single day I could live... A single breath I could take.

I'd trade all the others away.

The blood's on the wall, so you'd might as well just admit it

And bleach out the stains, commit to forgetting it.

You're better off empty and blank, than left with a single pathetic trace of this.

Smother another failure, lay this to rest.

Console yourself, you're better alone

Destroy yourself, see who gives a f**k.

Absorb yourself, you're better alone

Destroy yourself.

I'll chain you to the truth, for the truth shall set you free.

I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty.

I'll make all your dreams come to life, then slay them as quickly as they came.

Failure.

"Now You've Got Something To Die For" (One of my all time favorites -- It sums up all politicians)

Now you've got something to die for.

Infidel, Imperial.

Lust for blood, a blind crusade.

Apocalyptic, we count the days.

Bombs to set the people free, blood to feed the dollar tree.

Flags for coffins on the screen, oil for the machine.

Army of the liberation, gunpoint indoctrination.

The fires of sedition.

Fulfill the prophecy.

Now you've got something to die for.

Send the children to the fire, sons and daughters stack the pyre.

Stoke the flame of the empire, live to lie another day.

Face of hypocrisy, raping democracy.

Apocalyptic, we count the days.

We'll never get out of this hole until we've dug our own grave.

And drug the rest down with us, the burning home of the brave.

Burn!

"Remorse is For the Dead"

The dirty lord of the manor surveys his filthy domain.

Too many nights raising hell worked a little all too well.

Constructed a monument to denial and excess.

Sunk so low, crawled so far back there's nowhere left to regress.

If these walls could talk, they would tell a horror story.

Never-ending winter, violence and infidelity.

Shadows fall through broken panes.

Careless words that are filled with hate.

Just enough to keep it together, never enough to make it work.

All the tongues here are forked.

We are a hailstorm of broken glass, follow the path of least expectancy.

A huge stinking pile of sick, pile it higher and higher.

Light the match, start the fire.

Level this place until nothing is left and take us with it.

Surroundings are irate.

Crack of dawn brings naught but pain.

Resentment steadily grows.

Laughing in the gallows.

Full throttle determined to fail, pedal to the metal asleep at the wheel.

We are the lucky ones, welcome home.

Poisoned nerves and a bloody antidote

Violence is not an aberration, it's a rule.

Dying beyond the pale.

Your beatings will continue until my morale improves.

I don't hate you, I'm just removing an enemy.

Remorse is for the dead, my enemy.

Remorse is for the dead.

Randy Blythe of Lamb of God is one of the best songwriters in metal IMO. 99% of his lyrics are about political and societal issues.

Since a few weeks before the "release" of

Chinese Democracy I've been listening to

G&R's Apetite & Illusion disks...

(who else on here bought Spaghetti Incident?) :P

My three favorites of all time from G&R:

1. Sweet Child

2. You Could be Mine

3. Night Train

Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' always moves me. It is an awesome song, made even better by one of the best all-time singers.

Not too often does the cover song eclipse the original.

This is one of those rare times.

Night Train

by Guns & Roses, 1987

Loaded like a freight train

Flyin' like an aeroplane

Feelin' like a space brain

One more time tonight

Well I'm a west coast struttin'

One bad mother

Got a rattlesnake suitcase

Under my arm

Said I'm a mean machine

Been drinkin' gasoline

And honey you can make my motor hum

Well I got one chance left

In a nine live cat

I got a dog eat dog sly smile

I got a Molotov cocktail with a match to go

I smoke my cigarette with style

An I can tell you honey

You can make my money tonight

Wake up late honey put on your clothes

Take your credit card to the liquor store

That's one for you and two for me by tonight

I'll be loaded like a freight train

Flyin' like an aeroplane

Feelin' like a space brain

One more time tonight

I'm on the nightrain

Bottoms up

I'm on the nightrain

Fill my cup

I'm on the nightrain

Ready to crash and burn

I never learn

I'm on the nightrain

I love that stuff

I'm on the nightrain

I can never get enough

I'm on the nightrain

Never to return - no

Loaded like a freight train

Flyin' like an aeroplane

Speedin' like a space brain

One more time tonight

I'm on the nightrain

And I'm lookin' for some

I'm on the nightrain

So's I can leave this slum

I'm on the nightrain

And I'm ready to crash an' burn

Nightrain

Bottoms up

I'm on the nightrain

Fill my cup

I'm on the nightrain

Whoa yeah

I'm on the nightrain

Love that stuff

I'm on the nightrain

An I can never get enough

Ridin' the nightrain

I guess I

I guess, I guess, I guess I never learn

On the nightrain

Float me home

Ooh I'm on the nightrain

Ridin' the nightrain

Never to return

Nightrain

------

You learn something new every day.... here

I've been thinking for YEARS that Axl sings

Take your LEADED CAR to the liquor store

when I guess it's actually:

Take your credit card to the liquor store

Carz on teh Brein :P

Not to cast anymore of a bleak shadow on this topic, but a couple more good ones from Megadeth:

"Washington Is Next"

The quiet war has begun with silent weapons

And the new slavery is to keep the people

Poor and stupid, "Novus Ordo Seclorum" (New order of the ages)

How can there be any logic in biological war?

We all know this is wrong, but the New World Order's

Beating down the door, oh something needs to be done

There was a King, an evil King,

Who dreamt the wickedest of dreams

An ancient mystery, no prophet could interpret

Of seven years of famine, the wolf is at my door

As predicted years ago, that that was, that is, that is no more

The word predicts the future and tells the truth about the past

Of how the world leaders will hail the new Pharaoh

The eighth false king to the throne: Washington is Next!

Disengage their minds, sabotage their health

Promote sex and war and violence in the kindergartens

Blame the parents and teachers; it's their fault, "Annuit Coeptis" (He approves undertakings --- both of these latin phrases are on our U.S. seal)

Attack the church dynamic, attack the family

Keep the public undisciplined 'til nothing left is sacred and

The "have-not's" get hooked and have to go to the "have's" just to cop a fix

The word predicts my future and tells the truth about my past

Of how the world's leaders are waiting to usher in

The eighth world power of modern Rome: Washington is Next!

There's something at my door, some ancient mystery

The future tells the truth about my past

And I'm the eighth false king to the throne

I've got you in my crosshairs, now, ain't that a bitch?

Washington, you're next!

And:

"United Abominations" (The title track to the excellent political album this came from)

Within striking distance from Ground Zero sits a smoldering international cauldron, the United "Abominations" as it were. Born to prevent wars, it froze in the face of disaster and stood silent while terrorization to hostage of the world In a mire of hypocrisy, the U.N. ignores sex crimes by its "blue helmets", and enables terrorism; so in the end it's failed and the U.N. is where our so-called friends get to stab us in the back and we pay 22% of their tab to host our enemies here at home. Ambassadors from countries, otherwise known as a catastrophe, enjoy Diplomatic immunity living in Manhattan, while their children are turned into prostitutes. It's a complete and utter disgrace, a blot on the face of humanity, and they get away with it.

Poverty in their kitchens

Held hostage by oil-for-food

Yet their own plates are full off the fat of their lands

There's no blood on their hands, right Kojo?

They promised to tell the truth

Without leaving a fingerprint,

They will lose the U.N. one way or another

The victim, I fear will be us, sisters and brothers

The U.N. is right; you can't be any more "un"

Than you are right now, the U.N. is undone

Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun

The threat is real, the Locust King has come

Don't tell me the truth; I don't like what they've done

It's payback time at the United Abominations

A grave and gathering danger

The decision to attack

Based on secret intelligence it'll take years

I fear to undo the failings in Iraq, Iran, and Korea

You may bury the bodies

But you can't bury the crimes

Only fools stand up and really lay down their arms

No, not me, not when Death lasts forever

"Well, I just don't see what all the fuss is, because they don't do anything anyway, do they?"

NATO invaded Yugoslavia to end ethnic cleansing, there was no U.N.

The U.S. invaded Afghanistan after 9/11, there was no U.N.

Saddam Hussein violated 17 U.N. resolutions; The U.N. was asked to join the

war in Iraq. The U.S. invaded, Ha! there was no U.N.

Libya bombed a discotheque in Berlin killing Americans, there was no U.N.

Iran funds Hamas, and attacked the U.S. in the seventies, there was no stinking U.N.

Facing War without end, looking into the future, there was no more U.N.

Tormenting peasants till they erect an army

Under everyone's nose

In the end propaganda destroys their DNA, God help them

All that they envisioned of what things would come to be

Turned into a pink mist when they blew to smithereens

We are just a war away from Amerikhastan

When God versus God;the undoing of man

Promising a vapor, in the end they become one

for Hurt is still absolutely chilling. Simply an amazing song.

But The Luckiest by Ben Folds is really speaking to me lately.

Right now it is 100% The Guess Who's Got no Time

because Kim has been on me about not giving here enough attention

and I keep telling her that Im set to retire in about 5-10 years and we

will spent to much time together. I work 3 days a week over in novi/commerce

then I spend 2 days on average either in DC or some other base in the Midwest.

And don't get me started on my daughter... kill me...

No time left for you

On my way to better things

No time left for you

I’ll find myself some wings

No time left for you

Distant roads are calling me

No time left for you.

No time for a summer friend

No time for the love you send

Seasons change and so did I

You need not wonder why

You need not wonder why

There’s no time left for you

No time left for you.

No time left for you

On my way to better things

No time left for you

I’ll find myself some wings

No time left for you

Distant roads are calling me

No time left for you.

No time for a gentle rain

No time for my watch and chain

No time for revolving doors

No time for the killing floor

No time for the killing floor

There’s no time left for you

No time left for you.

No time for a summer friend

No time for the love you send

Seasons change and so did I

You need not wonder why

You need not wonder why

There’s no time left for you

No time left for you.

No Time, No Time, No Time, No Time

No Time, No Time, No Time, No Time

I got, got, got, got no time

I got, got, got, got no time

I got, got, got, got no time

Lately, since seeing Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood in concert a couple weeks ago, I've been listening to their Live at Madison Square Garden CD and alot of old Traffic, Cream, Blind Faith, and their solo work from the '70s-80s. I'm a classic rock fan at heart..

As far as 'new' music, I've listened to the Toxic Airborne Event and The Gaslight Anthem a lot lately...liking both bands.

Hey there, we noticed you're using an ad-blocker. We're a small site that is supported by ads or subscriptions. We rely on these to pay for server costs and vehicle reviews.  Please consider whitelisting us in your ad-blocker, or if you really like what you see, you can pick up one of our subscriptions for just $1.75 a month or $15 a year. It may not seem like a lot, but it goes a long way to help support real, honest content, that isn't generated by an AI bot.

See you out there.
