The fully electric sedan is built on the same MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) platform as the ID.4. For the concept’s camouflage, Volkswagen used no less than 40 layers of conducting and insulating paint, allowing large “pixels” to light up. Twenty-two areas of the vehicle can be controlled separately. The visual effect can be tied to a sound system for visualization of rhythm or programmed with QR codes. The ID.7 matches the design language of the rest of the ID family with a minimalist aero front clip, a short fron…

The 2021 Consumer Electronics Show was supposed to be held in Las Vegas from January 6th to January 9th. However, because of the pandemic affecting normalcy around the world, it was moved to solely online for the first time since its inception. Companies still came to show off and show off they did. Cadillac, in particular, unveiled two new products from its HALO portfolio: the PAV Pod (personal autonomous vehicle), or more commonly referred to as the “Toaster-Shaped Party Bus”, and the eVTOL aircraft (electric vertical take-off and landing), or more simply a personal flying vehicle. This party bus is seemingly a driverless limo for the more elegant nights with frien…

What's the next step after heads-up display (HUD)? If you ask Hyundai, it may be holographic augmented reality (AR) display on the windshield. This week at the Consumer Electronics Show, Hyundai and Swiss startup WayRay showed off a Genesis G80 equipped with a holographic AR navigation system. Unlike current HUD systems that reflects the image onto the windshield via an LCD screen mounted on the dash, the system being shown at CES displays the image directly through the windshield. WayRay's current setup displays navigation, along with driver-assistance alerts like lane departure and forward collision warning. "The driver can enjoy vivid and precise holographic im…
