  1. if you find that you must flatulate in a used bookstore, and luck should also have it you’re strolling through the horror section, think quick and grab the nearest copy of stephen king’s “the stand.” (if it’s the “complete and uncut” edition, even better. you’ll get why soon.) making sure to act innocently as possible, proceed to drop mr. king’s magnum opus on the floor in time as you break wind. the noise of the 1,153 page novel hitting the floor should be loud enough to disguise the noise of even your worst boomer. as a bonus, if your flatulence should be the result of a bountiful meal of cheap Chinese buffet food or some over cooked loaded curly fries from Arby’s, the accompanying after-smell should teach your fellow shoppers/readers the true meaning of horror.

  4. i was walking downtown and then i detected seismic activity in brown town. i was with people and if i didn't evacuate the farticles in time, the bullet train express to Brownsville Station would arrive too early. in a moment of sheer genius, i quickly ran to a busker playing good king wenceslas on tuba, threw a dollar and stood next to him, quietly joining in a duet that was nearly pitch perfect because I do lots of squats. when did you conceal farts like a pro?

  6. I will admit, the Continental with a 6 inches longer wheelbase looks good. This 6 inches longer wheel base should have been the Continental for sale when it went on sale a year or two ago... Suicide doors or not, Lincoln should have made THIS Lincoln Continental... That hood though where the hood meets up with the top of the grille. THAT has got to go... A more snug fitting like the concept should have been Lincoln's goal then...and now!!!

  7. I'd cheer for the Patriots before I'd ever cheer for Dallas. This does bring up an interesting topic for a thread---what car would I never, ever drive, even around a parking lot? I like to think I'm open minded enough to drive anything, even just once or as a weekend rental. Though I have a strong (possibly irrational) dislike of compact or subcompact cars with cheap gray interiors.

  8. They have had the 6.2 V8 for about 12 years now, time for something new. Independent rear suspension will help with 3rd row room, which currently lags behind its competitors that do have IRS.

  12. Late last week, the first spy shots of the next-generation Cadillac Escalade made their way onto the web. Much like the spy shots of the Chevrolet Suburban that came out back in May, we can't tell much about the exterior due to the heavy camouflage. There are certain details that can be made out such as Escala-like grille and the headlights moving horizontally. Like the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the Escalade and sister SUV models will utilize the T1XX platform. One of the key changes this platform brings is an independent rear suspension, something we first saw in the Suburban spy shots. The 6.2L V8 with 420 horsepower is expected to continue into the next-generation model, teamed with a new 10-speed automatic. There is also the possibility of the twin-turbo 4.2L V8, detuned to 500 horsepower or so. Expect to see the 2020 Escalade sometime next year. Source: Car and Driver, Motor Authority

  14. The time I took off from this place, I felt the same way... I still loved the Hellcat brothers and the Demon. The Mustang was a close second. Tesla got on my nerves... Went to Greece for vacation. Saw a few Euro cars. Fell in love with the Mercedes Sprinters. They are everywhere in Greece. Hotel/airport/small island transit/ shuttles for locals and tourists. Very versatile. It took a passenger van with different wheel bases and configurations to rekindle my love with the automobile. And then, my neighbour got his Tesla Model 3 delivered in the early fall. A white AWD performance model. I took a ride in it. (did not drive it) but WOW! In between seasons I saw a couple of 4.7liter V8 Maseratis. The sound these make... And the way it looks, the GrandTurismo, its just...well, lets just say that in my muscle car dream garage, there would be a Challenger (Hellcat or Scatpack), a 1970 Oldsmobile 442, a 1973 Trans Am SD455, and a brand new 2018/2019 Maserati GrandTurismo S/MC/MC Stradale. With the latest news on Ford canceling its sedans, GM almost doing the same thing, and with Cadillac, the CT6...its just laughable. But, I look at the Maserati, then I see my neighbour drive away to work in his awesome Tesla Model 3 AWD performance, than I go to youtube to see the Superfast 812 Ferrari, and I just sing to myself, what a wonderful world...

  15. The 2018 Escalade's 6.2 liter is the truck engine of the 2014 release of the LT1 in the Corvette Stingray. Its also called a Gen V of Chevy small blocks Gen IV were the LS engines. Gen III were the LT engines again. No...the Gen V small block LT is NOT a Gen III LT small block. No...the Gen III LT small blocks have nothing in common with Chevrolet's original 1950s small block V8s... Yes...the Gen IVs are different from the Gen IIIs. Yes...the Gen Vs have some similarities to the LS based Gen IVs, but... All Gen V engines are aluminum blocks with aluminum cylinder heads and include features such as direct injection, piston cooling jets...something that the Gen IV LS engines do not have... The Gen Vs are...brand new and employ state of the art technology keeping them on par in technology and sophistication with exotic V8s from exotic V8 makers such as Ferrari... Mercedes V8s are good. AMG V8s are awesome. The Chevrolet Small Block V8...is legendary. You may not agree with this. But its OK. I, would love to see the new TT 4.2 liter in a new Cadillac product, in the Escalade though, I am more than happy to see a detuned LT5 under the hood. Why? Its a truck. Its the Escalade. 4.2 liter versus 6.2 liter. Twin turbo sure. Its good. 2.65 liter supercharger....think about that for a moment... Cadillac should always be about arrogance... Unless Cadillac puts 2 supersized turbos the size of 1 gallon paint, on the possible Escalade 4.2 liter to produce that 700 or so horsepower, I would prefer the 2.65 liter supercharger under the hood of my 'Slade. But that is just me. Trying to retain some American Muscle, Cadillac arrogance in my American automobiles...something that the dudes that run Cadillac should be thinking about as well...

  16. My sister Heather drives a Navigator. She did not buy it for Fuel economy. People dropping eighty grand on a rig like this are not persuaded by a half a mile per gallon. This is the answer to Dwight in the other thread about Tarriffs. Without some level of free economic competition things never get better.

  17. Holy sht, you're right. The much $h!tier, larger vehicle, heavier vehicle does need an engine upgrade because the 6.2 gets worse fuel economy doesn't it? Seems more like Mercedes needs to upgrade.

  18. Good, now we are getting somewhere. So, what do you think the objective of tariff or the trade policy should be? Shouldn't it be to stop the outflow of wealth from your country to others (aka trade deficits) and preferably to cause wealth to flow into your country (aka a trade Surplus)? Now, if that is the objective, doesn't it make sense to tariff goods from countries you have a deficit with and impose higher tariffs on countries with whom you have a more deficits? For anyone living in your country, they still have all the choices in the world. They can buy a US made shirt or a Chinese made shirt. The difference is that the Chinese made shirt of a comparable quality and brand value will not cost substantially less. Sure, that makes the shirt more expensive. But, think about it. If you don't do that, how is it any different from saying that we want a minimum wage, healthcare and workers comp insurance to increase the standard of living for workers, but it only applies to Company A but not Company B? Won't Company B will get all the business, while Company A go belly up and its workers all wind up on welfare! It is not different when it comes to countries and trade. Forget everything you learned in ECON001 -- nobody gives a rat's behind about comparative and absolute advantages in man-hours when those man-hours don't cost the same amount of money! Free Trade = Suicide

  19. Absolutely! And it isn't like 450hp/500tq(whatever the exact numbers are) in either the 'Slade or 'Gator is a slouch by any stretch. They're still low 14's vehicles.. That's damn quick for vehicles the size of a house.

  21. Or the Lincoln equivalent? I love the rational and thoughtful responses here at C and G. Yes, but In finity's design language of everything that reaches actual production is rather ungainly. Hard pass based on finalized product appearance of everything they have released since....the beginning of production.

  23. The future of Lincoln with Ford Motor Company. Probably will have higher sales #'s than Lincoln in terms of sedans. Although they may well build more than 80 Suicide door Contis if customer demand is there. Ford does like to take care of customers...they re started convertible production in 73 for the Mustang because of Demand.

  24. China DOES NOT BUY American built cars, period. It doesn't matter if they raise the tariff to 40,000% All US brand cars sold in China are built in China in factories which are at least 50.1% Chinese owned. For GM, it's called the SAIC -- Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp -- where they build Chevys, Buicks and Cadillacs. Free Trade is suicide. The USA should impose a 100% tariff on all imports from all countries with whom we have a trade deficit. Maybe we can start with 10% increasing by 5% every year until there is no longer a trade deficit with the said country. We don't mind trade without tariffs. But, trade generating deficits instead of surpluses does not benefit a country. Any country shuld be able to Trade with the USA without tariffs -- so long as they take the necessary measures and adopt the necessary policies to buy as much US exports and they sell to the USA. It's very simple as very fair. Any country who wants to sell to the USA without buying US exports will eventually see tariffs in excess of 100% in 20 years and rising. Of course this is all contrary to WTO rules, which is why the USA should withdraw from the WTO -- a wealth re-distributive organization whose membership is not in the best interest of the USA or any developed nation. BTW, this is called Mercantilism -- aka Trade for NATIONAL profit.

  25. I think it is awesome that they brought back the suicide doors, but it should have been on all Continentals, not just a long wheel base special edition. And at over $100k, they are going to sell about 50 of these to some die hard enthusiasts while the rest of the Continental line will continue the sales decline. At least if the suicide doors were on the base $45k model it would create some excitement for that car, but maybe Ford just wants to kill it off anyway and doesn't care.

  31. THIS is how you pronounce Impala: I'd rather have it be pronounced withOUT that exhaust note, but the car itself is in impeccable shape. This had to have been the most provocative Impala ever as well as one of GM's most unforgettable models. And, back then, they could actually spend the money to change cars to some degree each and every year.

  35. Have a list of cars imported INTO China from the US? Everything I saw via Google on the topic returned privately importing a car into China or the dozens of cars imported into the US FROM China. As far I I vaguely knew, all GM cars sold in China are built there via state-mandated partnerships.

  36. You could make a stronger case on that point for the GTO, but the SSR was nothing but a extremely limited 'toy' vehicle, even if it had 700 HP.

  38. The positive take-away here is that finally there is direct focus on the imbalance issue. We had I don't know how long a years span where it was never seemingly brought to the table. We'll have to see where the trade terms end up, long-term.

  39. On this we finally disagree. I think GM is doing everything to be different than Pre-BK GM. Profit is necessary. They need to be as profitable as Toyota. Think about that tho. They have been pulling in profits on par with Toyota or better lately.. while still offering a super car beater CAMARO, CORVETTE, CTS-V, ATS-V.. also XTS-VSport.. Regal GS... Toyota's most performance oriented car is the Lexus LC and RC.. and really??? They are weak IMO GM indulged a few projects that were absolutely money losers from the start. One that comes to mind is this. This concept and the production were almost spot on.. but it should have never been anything other than a concept. (Below) Even the Sixteen.. as much as I wanted them to build it.. was unrealistic for the time unless GM was focused on revamping the divisions to a point that Cadillac was a boutique brand like Rolls. To anyone.. Mercedes even currently as the top Luxo maker cannot pull off selling a $400K luxo car in decent quantities without calling it something else like Pullman or Maybach. Cadillac would have had to buy the rights to Dusenburg or something because no way that car would have been a viable answer to what would eventually be answered as a CT6-V. Again.. hoping they don't kill it.. because in reality... in Platinum form the Cadillac CT6 3.0LTT spot on competition for the S 450 4matic is a CT6 V-Sport.. is the spot on competition for the S 560 4matic is a CT6 V is the spot on competition for the S63 The Ciel Convertible, El Miraj Coupe, and Escala Sedan are all realistic vehicles that have things that are or could easily be incorporated in a CT6 (or CT8) vehicle

  40. Nobody builds their awesome concepts. We focus on GM obviously, but -for example- BMW has shown literally dozens of concepts in the last 20 years and has built none of them. Just saw a mazda 6 commercial where they showed some polished chromey concept sedan rounding a corner, then the show the pedestrian production 6. Some may point to Tesla, but be clear here; showing a pre-production car that doesn't do anything toward advancing the design/impact envelope is not the same thing as a true concept. Model 3, other than the Avanti-esque grilleless nose, is completely contemporary. Sure, I would have LOVED for the Cadillac Sixteen to be produced, but I understand the role of concepts and I never expected it to be.
