What 7 cars available as either new or very low mileage used cars impress you the most for under 70K? Well last month I had to get a new computer after 8 years, it died. Now my monitor, an NEC LCD is on its last legs, it took 20 minutes for it to get its act together this morning. ANYHOO, if anyone has ideas on which type of monitor is the best, I'd appreciate hearing your opinions.

I was at the grocery store and sawr a maroon Focus sedan, a few years old, with two bumper stickers, I was hoping someone, somewhere, may have an idear what they mean: one was a strip, about a foot wide and less than an inch tall, with all the colors of the rainbow. The other was white lettering on a green background, with a word I've been unable to find in Webster's: "VAGINATARIAN". I'm usually pretty good with words, but this has me stumped. Any idears?

.....well, it's either off of a Camaro or Firebird. My Chevy buddy tells me the spoilers were of different angles/heights- he believes this is Camaro, but doesn't recognize the stripes. I've seen a pic of striping similar on a Camaro, tho it had 'Rallye Sport' above it (perhaps removed here?) Anyone recognize which this belongs to? I want to sell it, need to target the right motorheads. I realize the decklid itself is interchangable. Only thing stamped on it is 'T39'.

We had to euthanize our 14 yr old Australian Terrier, Nauti (aka Bitey Beast) this morning after a long battle w/ cancer. I really bonded w/ this feisty little dog and will miss her deeply. Poured a stiff glass of Jameson to have a toast to her.

RE the recent '66 Impala discussion.... these seats recently sold on eBay. They were from a '61 Starfire, but (pattern aside) are correct for '59-60 also (of note; they have full metal backs). There were 5 pics, but you absolutely get the picture of their condition. No tricks. First off, apologies to caddycruiser and regfootball. Earning a living can be difficult at times, I know... I stopped @ the local Ford dealership this afternoon to check out a new Escape, it was an SE AWD 1.6, priced at $27k. Usually this dealership lets ppl browse, but today a salesguy came out and started pitching. He said "yeah, how do you like it?" I said, "Yup, the new Focus wagon," and so the tone was set. He said with the automatic liftgate, Ford is cautioning ppl against waving your leg back and forth to open it because you can fall down. Just one kick straight ahead is the preferred way to do it. When I owned my '07 Saturn SKY, it was involved in an accident in November. The tire and rim were cosmetically damaged and were replaced during the repairs. I kept the original tire & rim and now want to sell them to raise some needed cash. The tire saw 495 miles as of the accident, and very little additional mileage until it was replaced. It has held air with no problems the 6 years its been in storage in my basement. Here are some recent pictures: Honestly, what do you think I could sell the tire & rim for? I was thinking $250, but not sure if that is too high or too low?

Here's the deal: My employers/landlords have a 2000 Volvo V40 wagon. About a week ago, I found a broken hunk of a front spring under the car and told them to have their mechanic check it out since I consider it a safety issue. I dropped the car off and had a chat about it with the mechanic. I agreed with him that the proper way to deal with it was to replace the front springs and struts (original and at about 90k miles). I bought something. Can't really explain why and not sure what the heck I'll do with it or how long it will be around. Busy day. Cash. Thought I'd try that for once, and old. But shockingly well cared for. To the extent the lady I bought it from typed and printed out an emotional "car history" story about it, in addition to the stacks of service bills. She was interesting. 199,575 miles as of today, parked outside under a tree until I get in trouble for having 2 cars in my development. Vroom. Now, what the heck am I going to do with this thing. As of May 22nd, 2012 I am officially a Journalism major with an undetermined minor concentration. Well yeah, since finding out shock-n-awe style on May 15th that the bodyshop I work at would be closed by the end of the munt due to a multi-year drop-off in business (yes, that was today, our last day) despite a golden local reputation that was built over nearly 5 decades, all my staff have been clearly in emotional turmoil. I've probably met the most interesting person I'm going to meet while working at a parts store. Yesterday a gentleman came in to pick up an Optima battery he had ordered. He brought the core with him, a battery sold by us 6 years ago. Generally, a battery that old is not the prettiest thing. They range from dirty to downright scary. As of today, we are now a GM-only household. Sold my 2004 Neon SXT this morning and we're down to one car, the Malibu Maxx. This is the first time I've been without a Mopar in the garage since Nixon was president. I'm serious! My wife got a new job where she is able to commute via bus and I've been commuting via bus for a long time. Our high-school daughter gets to/from school via the bus as well and she won't be able to drive, unless some advanced surgery comes along to fix her eyesight (she's legally blind). We decided we don't need two cars and my wife didn't like driving the Neon (she claims she sat too low in it). Wow...we only have one car--and it's a GM!

Sparked by the (hideous) Chevy Spark, there was an interesting chat session yesterday where a bunch of pics of unusual, little cars were tossed up. These are NOT my preference in vehicles, so in a way, I'm looking at these in order to find something I like design-wise. Bill Mitchell once said (...something derogatory about small cars, can't find the quote). This weekend, my wife & I had planned a trip to Yellowstone, but the weather turned crappy. So last minute we picked out a destination to the south for better weather, and went to the Great Basin National Park. Beautiful hiking & caves, good times. Drove partway home yesterday & spent the night at Windover, and soon learned it's on the edge of the Utah Salt Flats. The shop I work at will close on May 30th permanently after many decades in business and an excellent reputation earned well before I was born, due to lack of business. I was just promoted to co-manager in February. We were all caught off-guard. Not sure what to do next, I've called several people I know in the business to put out feelers. Hopefully something will come my way soon. When I first started there in 2006, there were 14 bodyshop employees. We're ending up with 9.

Sold the Dodge yesterday. The new owner flew in from California and is currently driving the car all the way across the country to get it home! Got a call today from him - they had made it as far as Dayton Ohio at mid-day, and hope to be in Kansas tonight.

So my brother's moving, and I spent the day helping. Part of my duties was to drive his truck from the sold house to the storage facility. Bad move on my part. He's got an '04 Silverado 1500 extended cab Z71, 122k miles, with a 330-horse GM replacement engine and Flowmaster exhaust. It was like going home. I turn into a blithering idiot when I drive a pickup truck. Why can't I get it out of my system?
