By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 29, 2013 The Rolls-Royce Wraith was a show stopper when it was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March. But Rolls-Royce isn't done yet with the Wraith. CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös told Auto Express that a convertible version is coming. “The design certainly lends itself to a drophead coupe, and I think that will be the next variant.” Müller-Ötvös emphasized that a convertible Wraith could take “some time”, so don't expect it to arrive within the next year or two. Müller-Ötvös also addressed the rumor of a SUV from Rolls-Royce. “We have no plans to produce an SUV, definitely not, the next thing is drophead …

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 21, 2012 Car & Driver had the chance to sit down with Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös to talk about what the next few years hold for the luxury brand. First, Müller-Ötvös said the 102EX concept shown at last year’s Geneva Motor Show will not go into production. The 102EX concept was a Phantom with an electric powertain taking the place of the V12 engine. The 102EX was built to see if customers were interested in a electric Rolls. The results? “The results were ambivalent,” said Müller-Ötvös. In one respect, customers loved the acceleration and utter silence. But, “on the other hand, the charging times…

EPA Says: 5,771-Pound Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Is A Compact Car By Nelson Ireson Editor December 8th, 2010 The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is on a roll of remarkably nonsensical declarations of late, not least of which are the "mpg" ratings for the 2011 Nissan LEAF and 2011 Chevrolet Volt. The latest, and possibly silliest, pronouncement: the 5,771-pound, 453-horsepower V-12 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe is a compact car. How, in the name of all things measurable, did the EPA come to that conclusion? The EPA classes cars not on weight, length, or some other exterior factor, but on interior volume. Even more laughable? The Bentley Continental GTC, at 5,6…

Rolls-Royce reportedly planning to expand Ghost family with coupe, cabrio, LWB sedan by Noah Joseph (RSS feed) on Dec 8th 2010 at 7:01PM The new Ghost has been a runaway success for Rolls-Royce, the (relatively) more accessible saloon more than doubling its sales figures and outselling the larger Phantom by order of magnitude. And as might be expected, the BMW subsidiary has every intention of cashing in its success with a family of new models. Much as it has with the Phantom, Rolls-Royce is reportedly planning on spinning the Ghost sedan into a full range, including a long-wheelbase version, a coupe and convertible. The stretched limousine is expected to come first,…

Rolls-Royce mulls adding to Ghost model line September 21, 2010 06:01 CET Print Email Reprints BERLIN (Bloomberg) -- Rolls-Royce plans to expand the Ghost model line to help the ultraluxury nameplate double unit sales. “I'm quite confident that we're going to see a Ghost derivative to come,” Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said in an interview at the carmaker's headquarters in Goodwood, England. “There's still a lot of potential in the market” for a less formal Rolls model. The $245,000 Ghost, which went on sale last year, is Rolls-Royce's second product line after the Phantom, which starts at $380,000. Even with its cheaper price tag, the smalle…

New Mansory Rolls Royce Ghost Skips on the Gold Flakes Thursday, July 15, 2010 Most of you remember the Mansory-prepped Rolls Royce Ghost Gold Edition from this year's Geneva Salon - how can one forget such an eye-blinding proposal... The Swiss tuner is back with a new strictly limited edition version of the "baby" Rolls Royce, named for obvious reasons the Ghost White Edition, of which only three examples will be built. Even though it features the exact same body kit with restyled bumpers, spoilers, side skirts and additional air vents as well as alloy wheel designs with the Gold Edition, this time Mansory skipped the Fast-&-Furious paint job and gaudy gold trim …

Rolls-Royce hits production record By Andrew Ganz Ultra luxury cars aren’t usually proud of large quantity sales that potentially dilute brands in the eyes of well-heeled customers, but a record breaking month in a down economy is a pretty good thing when you’re Rolls-Royce. The BMW-owned British automaker says that its recently-launched Ghost helped catapult production over 300 units last month, breaking a post-BMW takeover record for the flying lady. Globally, June sales were four times higher than a year before and half-year sales are up 200 percent. Not surprisingly, the biggest gains came from China, the world’s fastest growing and largest new car market. Intere…

Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Etc., Rolls-Royce, Luxury Rolls-Royce Phantom 'Hybrid' - click above for high-res image gallery If there is any car that seems to be well suited to either hybridization or outright electrification, the Rolls-Royce Phantom would seem to be logical candidate. Many of them are used transporting the wealthy around the world's great cities like Paris, London and Manhattan in trips that are not necessarily that long. It's also not unheard for a manufacturer to provide vehicles to customers for field testing, just as BMW is doing right now with the electric Mini E. However, aside from the highly publicized Mini E project, these sorts of initiati…

Looking at this pile in Motor Trend... I was all set to bash it for having a 2-piece rear decklid (wasn't it bentley saying they had to hand-weld the roof on the convert... when clearly what was happening was that they did not have presses large enough to stamp it out in 1 piece).... then I see it has a fold-down tailgate like a Kaiser Vagabond: No mention of this feature in the article nor the site I got the pic from. I still suspect the reason is it was too difficult to stamp from one sheet, but whatever. This car is certain to never see anything in the trunk whatsoever, nevermind anything heavy, so the purpose here is a mystery. Here's the dash: Now... wher…

Rolls-Royce introduces certified pre-owned program Link to Original Article @ LeftLane News Rolls-Royce has jumped on the increasingly popular certified pre-owned bandwagon with a new program called "Provenance." Virtually every luxury carmaker and almost all non-luxury carmakers offer some sort of certification program for qualified used cars and Rolls thought it was time for them to join the foray. U.K.'s Car magazine reports that Rolls-Royce's program doesn't differ much from other manufacturers in that it offers an extra 24 months worth of warranty in addition to any remaining warranty for qualified cars. Rollers that qualify must have passed an inspection process…

The Phantom goes topless for 2007 By Phil Lienert Email Date posted: 12-15-2005 Official confirmation that a Rolls-Royce drop top was in the works came months ago, and now we have the first shots of a prototype in action. The Phantom-based convertible is expected to join the company's lineup in 2007, with the upcoming Bentley Continental GT convertible as the next closest competition, give or take a couple hundred thousand dollars. Since BMW took over the company nearly three years ago, sales of Rolls' single Phantom model haven't quite met with the parent company's expectations. The recent stretched version of the Phantom has increased the brand's appeal i…

Baby Roller Revival: Rolls-Royce wants a piece of former partner Bentley's action http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103308 (Image at link) GREG KABLE Posted Date: 10/4/05 Rolls-Royce will go back to its roots with a range of smaller and—gasp!—less-expensive models as the luxury carmaker seeks to lay the financial foundations for a prosperous future. Described as possessing all the traditional Rolls-Royce hallmarks of engineering prestige and upper-crust luxury, the new cars are intended to rejuvenate the BMW-owned British carmaker with entries in the growing $150,000-to-$200,000 segment of the market. “I believe Rolls-Royce has…
