Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera unveiled Italian supercar maker Lamborghini will showcase the new Gallardo Superleggera coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Thanks to increased power (an additional 10 hp) and a 220-pound reduction in weight (154 pounds for the U.S. model), the new range-topping Superleggera is faster and more agile than the regular model. The Superleggera needs only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph — 0.2 seconds less than the basic Gallardo. The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera comes with robotized mechanical e-gear as standard; a sports package including shock absorbers; and special suede-covered steering wheel. The car's engine is the latest…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 19, 2013 Say hello to the to the redesigned Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Pictures of the redesigned model surfaced today on the web, well ahead of its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The exterior design of the Continental Flying Spur borrows heavily from the Continental GT and GTC. The biggest change deals with the rear end as Bentley redesigned it to bring it more in line with the larger Mulsanne sedan. The Flying Spur's interior has been updated to keep it in line with the Continental GT and GTC, and features a new dash layout, steering wheel, and instrument panel. Power will come from 6.0L W12 e…

A week out before the start of the Geneva Motor show, Lexus has decided to pull the curtain back on their showing, the new UX crossover. The UX will sit underneath the NX in the Lexus family, becoming the new entry-level model. The UX's exterior might be Lexus' most polarizing design to date. Up front sits a massive spindle grille, raked front headlights, and deep cuts into the bumper. The side profile shows off squared-off wheel wells and sculpting along the side. Lexus dropped a short video which gives us a sneak peek into the UX's interior, looking somewhat similar to the LC with a wide infotainment screen and a small row of buttons for the climate control. We'…

It has been quite awhile since we have reported on an all-new model from Mitsubishi. But that will be changing in March as the Japanese automaker will debut a new crossover that will slot between the Outlander Sport and Outlander. The new model looks very familiar to the XR-PHEV and XR-PHEV II concepts with a sharply raked roofline and tailgate, bold character line along the side, and headlights extending to the fenders. For Europe, we're expecting a range of gas and diesel engines. The U.S. version will get a turbocharged four-cylinder according to Mitsubishi Motors North America COO Don Swearingen to Motor1 earlier this month. We'll have…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 5, 2013 Last month, Alfa Romeo pulled the covers off the production 4C before its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. While we learned a bit about the design, chassis, and what would be powering it, Alfa Romeo was keeping quiet on performance figures. Until today where Alfa Romeo officially debuted the 4C at Geneva. The 4C's 1.75L turbocharged four-cylinder produces 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Top speed is 155 MPH and can reach 62 MPH in 4.5 seconds. Alfa also announced that annual 4C production would total 3,500 vehicles for the glob…

What could the next-generation Mazda2 look like? Well if the Hazumi concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show this week is any indication, it looks like it will follow in the footsteps of the Mazda3 and 6. The Hazumi concept follows Mazda's Kodo design language with the five-point grille and slender headlights up front. The side profile has a similar shape to the Mazda3 hatchback. Around back is an upright tailgate, triangular taillights, and a spoiler mounted on the roof. Inside, the Hazumi is very concept-y with uniquely styled dashboard that intended to give the impression of a bridge when paired with the door trim. Black and white leather trim line the interior, while …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 5, 2013 Spyker would like everyone to forget about the whole Saab mess from last year and focus on their showing at the Geneva Motor Show, the B6 Venator Concept. The B6 Venator Concept was designed by Spyker CEO Victor Muller and pays homage to Spyker's past as an automotive and airplane manufacturer. Such design cues include a V-Shaped mesh grille, wraparound canopy, LED taillights that mimic the burners of a jet engine, and nineteen-inch "Turbofan" wheels. Power comes from a transverse-mounted V6 producing 375 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic. While that may seem a bit low for a two-seat spor…

When Hyundai unveiled the Kona subcompact crossover last year, they said an electric variant would be following. Today, the Korean automaker has unveiled the Kona EV before its official debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. Styling for the large part is the same as the regular Kona. The only real difference is up front where the grille is closed off and features a little door hiding the charging point. Other design changes include a two-tone roof and 17-inch alloy wheels. For the interior, Hyundai has added a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a push-button gear selector. Hyundai will be offering two versions of the Kona EV. The standard model uses a 1…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 17, 2013 The 2013 Geneva Motor Show is setting up to be a exciting show with a number of vehicles making their debut. One of the big surprises for Geneva will be the launch of a new car company. Chinese automaker Qoros will be introducing itself to the world by showing off a production-intent sedan as well as two "concepts" that appear to be production ready. Qoros was founded as a part of a joint venture between Chery Automobile and global holding company, Israel Corporation. Their production-intent sedan is called 3 sedan and unlike most Chinese cars of the past few years, this doesn't look like a blatant c…

It's official. Land Rover announced today that it will be sending the Range Rover Evoque Convertible into production next year. Along with the announcement, Land Rover released pictures and video of a camouflaged prototype driving in the 26-mile network of Crossrail tunnels currently being built in London. Why drive it in tunnels? According to the company, it allow them to drive the vehicle with the top down in complete privacy. "The tunnels are still under construction, so we had a unique opportunity to explore the vehicle's all-terrain ability in uncharted territory," said Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programs. Saab Shows Off PhoeniX Concept William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 1, 2011 Saab PhoeniX Gallery It has been about five years since Saab showed their last concept vehicle, the Aero-X at the Geneva Motor Show. Five years later, Saab has pulled the wraps of their newest concept vehicle, the Saab PhoeniX. Done by designer Jason Castriota, the PhoeniX concept draws inspiration from Saab's first vehicle, the Ursaab. Castroita calls the design "aeromotional" - with it's teardrop shape, butterfly doors, and drag coefficient of 0.25 cd. The PhoeniX concept uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 200 HP and goes through Saab…

Wait, didn't Lexus only tease the LC 500h a few days ago? Yes, they did. But today, the Japanese luxury brand has decided to spill the beans on the hybrid version of the LC before its official debut in Geneva next month. The big news about the LC 500h is the Lexus Multi-Stage Hybrid System. This new system is built specifically for performance vehicles. For the LC 500h, the system includes a 3.5L V6 (295 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque), an electric motor, a hybrid transmission, and a lithium-ion battery pack. Total output stands at 354 horsepower and Lexus claims a 0-60 MPH time of sub-five seconds. The hybrid transmission is an interesting piece to the M…

Infiniti has a habit of teasing high-performance concepts and then not doing anything with them. This trend looks to continue with the Q60 Project Black S that will be debuting next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept is the result of a collaboration between Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula 1 team. Starting with an Infiniti Q60 Red Sport as a base, engineers from the two groups paired the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with an F1-style KERS (kinetic energy recover system) motor generator. Infiniti says this setup boosts horsepower about 25 percent (around 500 horsepower). For the exterior, Infiniti fitted a new front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser made…

It has been quite awhile since Mercedes-Benz has offered a compact four-seater convertible after the CLK was discontinued in 2009. But Mercedes is making a comeback into this class with the new C-Class Cabriolet. There isn't any real surprises in terms of the design. It looks like the C-Class Coupe minus the roof. The cabrio top is based on the one found on the S-Class Cabriolet and comes in four colors (black, dark brown, dark blue, and dark red). The top can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds and speeds up to 31 mph. The interior features leather that can reflect heat, Mercedes' AirScarf that blows hot air around the neck to make it more comfortable when the top…

Audi pulled the covers off the 2017 Q2 crossover today at the Geneva Motor Show. This new crossover is aimed at younger buyers living in urban areas and marks the beginning of an expansion for Audi's crossover lineup. The first thing that is evident is that Q2's design wasn't born from the enlarge/reduce function on the copy machine. It looks slightly different from Audi's other crossovers. This is due to Audi's design boss Marc Lichte and his plan to make models look slightly different from each other. Up front is a large grille with an egg crate design for the insert and angled headlights. Around the side, Audi's designers took large, chamfered cut on the top off th…

Inside the Provo Concept, Kia designers used a mixture of carbon fiber, leather, and aluminum for a unique look. Gauges are digital. Thanks to early release of photos before the official showing at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Ford has come clean and revealed the 2015 Focus. The most noticeable change on the Focus is the front fascia, which adopts the Aston Martin-esq grille. Other changes to the front include reshaped headlights, hood, and front fascia. The rest of the vehicle appears to be the same as the current model. Inside, the 2015 Focus gets new trim pieces and the addition of buttons if MyFordTouch is equipped. A back-up camera is standard, while Ford's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) becomes an option. The 2015 Focus will also become the second model in the U.S. gain the the 1.0L Ec…

The past few years have seen a number of crossover concepts from Volkswagen. There has been the three-row CrossBlue, the sleek CrossCoupe, and the very small Taigun. The trend will continue at next month's Geneva Motor Show as the company will reveal the T-Roc concept. Volkswagen says the concept previews the direction of future Volkswagen crossovers. The overall shape looks more like hatchback than crossover thanks to a low stance and high beltline. The front end gets a narrow honeycomb grille and LED headlights. Below are a set of pods that have LED lights that can swivel and cameras that give you a view of the road. Out back is wide tailgate with narrow LED taillights…

First there was GTI. Then came GTD. Now, Volkswagen has revealed the brand new GTE that will debut next next month at the Geneva Motor Show. The GTE follows in the footsteps of the GTD with offering hot hatch performance and improved fuel economy. The difference is how the GTE performs the feat. Under the skin is a plug-in hybrid system comprised of 1.4L turbo four (producing 148 horsepower) and a electric motor (producing 101 horsepower) that make a combined 201 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with a six-speed DSG gearbox that has been built with hybrid vehicles in mind. A 8.8 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery finishes off the powertrain. Pe…

The next member of the Range Rover family was introduced a week before its official showing at Geneva Motor Show. Called the Velar, it will slot into the small space between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. We're not kidding about the small space. The Velar is 17-inches longer than the Evoque and two inches shorter than the Sport. In terms of its design, think Range Rover Sport with a lowered roofline and the front end from the Range Rover. The door handles have been integrated into the body to help with aerodynamics (this makes it the most aerodynamically efficient Range Rover with 0.32 coefficient of drag ). All Velars will come with a panoramic …

First came the Volvo Concept Coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This was followed up by the Concept XC Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show. For Geneva, Volvo completes the concept trifecta with the Concept Estate. Think of the Concept Estate as being the sister car to the Concept Coupe as the two models are the same below the beltline. Both have similar front fascias with wide grilles and distinctly shaped headlights. Where the Concept Estate differs is above the beltline and back. The roofline is much longer than the Coupe and flows into a tailgate. The back end has wide haunches and slim, angular taillights. Volvo says the overall design of the Concept Estate pays homage to…

When picking a Bentley Flying Spur, an important question comes up: Do you go for the V8 or the W12 engine? Bentley is going to make that question a bit harder to answer as they have announced a new version of the Flying Spur called the V8 S which boasts slightly more power. Okay, we're being a bit tongue in cheek here. The V8 S is actually being positioned as a more of a driver's car and it begins under the hood. The twin-turbo 4.0L V8 has been reworked slightly to produce 521 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the standard V8, the V8 S is has 21 more horsepower and an additional 15 pound-feet. Despite the increase in performance, Bentley says the Flyi…

Geneva may be one of continental Europe's premier venues for automobile manufacturers, but its not a show that garners the same lust and attention for us that American shows do. Most of the cars typically launched at Geneva are from European marques and intended for Europe anyway. However, recently, Geneva has been the release point for several cars that should pique interests wordwide, such as the Rolls-Royce 101EX, BMW Z4 coupe, SAAB's Aero-X, and the Dodge Hornet. Many of these 'world cars' do end up stateside or are simply interesting. Geneva's significance for GM this year (so far) seems to revolve around the possible European launch of the Chevy HHR and what is pos…

The Ferrari FF was a bit of an odd duck for the brand. First introduced at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the FFmodel was a four-seater shooting brake with a 651 horsepower V12 and all-wheel drive. Using the new MQB based A3 as a start, Audi drops in a turbocharged 2.0L TFSI engine producing 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. All of that power goes to all four wheels via quattro. You do have the choice between six-speed manual or S-Tronic automatic. 0-60 MPH takes about five seconds for the automatic, and a half second slower for the manual. We got a sneak peek at the Flying Spur thanks to a leak a couple weeks ago and the shots put out by Bentley match the leak shots. While the 2014 Flying Spur has a similar profile as the outgoing model, Bentley gave the new model some new design cues to make more aggressive. There is more upright face, arched fenders, new roofline, and a set of horizontal taillights. Inside the Flying Spur, Bentley has made sure this no shortage of luxury and technology appointments. And the hatchback makes for three. Next month at the Geneva Motor Show, Honda will introduce a concept version of the 10th Generation Civic Hatchback. The teaser photo Honda released matches up perfectly with the Civic Coupe shown at the LA Auto Show. The C-shaped taillights and a similarly styled lid lead us to this conclusion. Don't expect the center mounted exhaust to come into production. Honda says the production model will begin production in Europe in early 2017 with sales beginning sometime after. The U.S. will also be getting the Civic, though a timeframe hasn't been given at the moment. Source: Honda Press Release is on Page 2 Honda Civ…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 3, 2013 If you wanted a more powerful C63 AMG, but think the Black Series version is a bit unlivable, Mercedes-Benz might have the vehicle for you. To be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the 2014 C63 AMG 507 Edition provides performance and styling upgrades to the C63 AMG lineup. That's right, you can get the 507 Edition the sedan, coupe, or if you live outside of North America, a wagon. Starting with the engine, Mercedes-Benz was able to squeeze out more power from the 6.2L V8 by adding forged pistons, new connecting rods, a lighter crankshaft, and a remapped engine controller. Horsepower is no…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 21, 2013 Audi isn't what you call a major player in the hybrid marketplace, but that could be changing with the showing of the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid. Paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the A3 e-tron can reach 60 MPH in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 138 mph. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 12, 2013 Its been a long two years since Alfa Romeo unveiled the 4C Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, but now the time has come. A few weeks before this year's Geneva Motor Show, Alfa Romeo has pull back the curtain on the production 4C. The production 4C model, due out as a 2014 model, maintains the sharp looks from the concept. The 4C also keeps the mid-engine layout and carbon-fiber monocoque chassis. Power will come from Alfa Romeo's 1.75L turbocharged four-cylinder that is also used in the Giulietta. Alfa is keeping quiet on performance figures, only saying that the 4C has a weight-to-power ratio …

The FT-86 Open Concept is pretty much the current Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ with the roof cut off. The Open Concept shares almost the same sheet metal as the coupe. The roof is a multi-layer fabric top with a glass window that folds away behind the rear seats.Inside, the FT-86 Open Concept retains the 2+2 layout and gets a 'unique' color palate that includes white and blue leather, and yellow carp…

Porsche is expanding the Panamera lineup once again with the introduction of the Sport Turismo (wagon). Riding on the same wheelbase as the standard Panamera, Porsche extended the roofline and increased the size of the rear hatch. If you're expecting a noticeable increase in cargo, prepared to be disappointed. The Sport Turismo only adds 1.8 cubic feet of additional cargo space. The Sport Turismo also boasts a unique rear spoiler. At low speeds, the spoiler will trim itself to reduce drag. Higher speeds see the spoiler rise to add downforce. The spoiler will also rise when the panoramic sunroof is opened to cut down on wind noise. The Panamera Sport Turismo's engine l…
