Settle down: Volt batteries can recharge while driving What the Volt's gas engine can't do is completely recharge the battery pack to its full capacity. Rather, when load conditions are light the gas engine will send surplus electrons to the battery pack, which will also be receiving extra charge from regenerative braking, as well. That sounds about right to us, as we've always been told that constantly charging a battery to its maximum will shorten its life, as the optimum charge range is usually between 20 and 80 percent, not completely drained and not completely charged. GM is determining right now just how much it wants to let the gas engine charge the Volt's batter…

  7. Okay well a local Chevy dealer whom is known for his invoice - rebates pricing. Who has a HUGE inventory of Chevrolet's has a few very special Malibu's out of his fleet of 28. I have come across a 2009 Malibu 1LT with a 3.5L V6! What is the deal here, I thought it was FLEET only, I thought only Avis and such could order these. I didn't know dealers could sell them brand new with FLEX FUEL badging none-the less, easier to tell apart I suppose. Anyways I found it odd and if I were in the market for one, I would have to consider one with the "low tech" 3.5 V6. Anyways anyone have any comments and also he has a loaded 1LT sedan with chrome alloy wheels? I thought 1LT's only c…

The Chevrolet Impala has been the most popular American automotive nameplate of all time (I'm almost positive)... Which Impala was your favorite? I saw mine on Halloween night 1961, when my parents came home with a gleaming new 1962 Impala Sport Sedan (4-door hardtop), white with the red stripe down the belt line, and that gorgeous red interior with the subtle black stripes and chrome buttons; it had the small block 283 V8, Powerglide (2-speed) automatic transmission, and a rear-mounted radio mast antenna. I fell in love with the Chevrolet Impala that night, over 44 years ago, as a not-quite 10 year old kid, and I've been driving Chevrolets for almost my entire…

  12. Do you find the GM minivans to be a disappointment? How much longer until GM tries the minivan thing again? I wonder how sales of Uplander, Montana SV6, Terraza and Relay compare to Chrysler or Toyota. Or even Nissan or Hyundai? GM could do better. The 90 Lumina/Transport/Silhouette was a flop. Then the 1997 Venture was an improvement. Seems like the Uplander isn't selling as well as the Venture. Some say minivans are a thing of the past and GM should focus on SUVs and family sedans. Maybe so. The Astro sold as well as the Uplander when it was 10 or 15 years old! GM needs to try a new front end on the Uplander soon as see if that can improve sales.

http://www.superchevy.com/features/camaro/...tion/index.html Death of the New Z28 Camaro writer: Jim Campisano photographer: Jim Campisano No sooner did our news story come out about the supercharged 2010 Camaro Z28 in the August Super Chevy ("Bow Tie Briefs") that we got a call from a panic-stricken source at General Motors. "The Z28 is dead. Call me back," the message stated. A little history: In said news article we talked about the late-2010 introduction of the top-of-the-performance-ladder Camaro named Z28. The base V-8 Camaro would be the SS with a 400-plus-horsepower LS3, but for those who wanted to go hunting for Shelby GT500 and GT500KR Mustangs, ther…

Saw this..Thought it was interesting. Thought I'd share. I haven't read it all yet because I gotta get going some place but thought I'd post it real quick. " Last time we checked in on the reportedly fussy Corvette Z06 engine, it was leaking vital fluids after Fox News reporter Gary Gastelu took it to the track. Now it appears that Chevrolet has a fix for at least one of the Z06’s reported engine problems: change the oil, stat. According to a General Motors spokesman, the catastrophic engine failures all seem to have three things in common: early production builds, oil contamination and low miles (under 2,000). (Maybe that explains the one that bought the farm at…

The Z06 of course! It won by 2.6 seconds, which is quite impressive, IMO. It carried more speed through all corners and more g's through all but one. http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/10/11/cor...o-around-track/

When if ever, do you think GM will offer a 0% (or even like 2.9%) financing deal on the Cobalt? This may be the gentle economic "push" my Mom needs to replace her Grand Am with a new Chevy, either a Cobalt or an HHR.

AUTOWEEK Posted Date: 11/22/05 Camaro coming Dodge won’t get all the muscle car buzz with its Challenger concept at the Detroit auto show this January. Word is General Motors will show a Camaro concept on a stretched Kappa (Solstice, Sky) chassis. The car is set for production as a 2009 model, sources say. The other GM concept for Detroit won’t be a Pontiac Firebird, but more likely will be a Buick crossover. Don't know how accurate this is yet, but will be a big blow to those claiming the Kappa could not be stretched. Fbodfather said last Feb a V8 would fit in the Kappa, so that may have been a clue back then? Note the 2009 fits when the W body is to die and …

Am I missing the thread on the new ZL1? Didn't see anything on the front page. I'm very curious what the price will be.

  22. Started by hyperv6,

Well since no one else has said anything I thought I might post this so we are not the only GM site without a thread on the ZL1 performance. This week the cover has been pulled off the road test of the Zl1. It was tested vs the 302 Boss that the media has fallen in love with for it's track performance and the Camaro beat The HP helped a little but the new suspension has taught the fat lady to really dance. In the mean tme Al Oppenheiser says that he feels the ZL1 will remain faster than the coming Shelby. I know Al and he is one a real car guy and two he is not a BS er. They have done computer sims on both cars and they feel the Shelby will not be able to use all the po…

Check out the short Video on Badboyvettes.com. The ZR-1 passes a car doing around 150 KPH with a video camera like a F-22 in super cruise going past a Piper Cub. If you stop the video you can confirm it was a ZR-1 but other wise it is a black blur going by with a loud American roar.

It's already hot at 11 a.m. as we pull our 2009 Nissan GT-R into the visitor's parking lot at GM's proving grounds in Arizona. The Japanese supercar looks like a spaceship next to the aging, 1960s-era brick buildings that front the massive desert test facility on the outskirts of Phoenix. Although the few GM employees who see the GT-R barely pay it any attention, we suspect they know why it's here. Somewhere deep inside this test facility there's a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 getting prepped for a comparison test, and now the competition has arrived. We make a few calls and sign a few release forms before a Cyber Gray ZR1 emerges from the main gate and pulls up next t…
