Audi is continuing its march forward with electric vehicles by previewing the next model in its upcoming e-tron lineup, the e-tron GT concept. This will become a production model in late 2020, following in the footsteps of e-tron SUV and sportback. That's quite the quick turnaround and a lot of that is due to the e-tron GT has the same underpinnings as the upcoming Porsche Taycan. The spec sheet mentions a 96-kwh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor for each axle. But the way the electric powertrain is tuned for each vehicle is different. Audi Sport is handling the development and says the e-tron GT will produce a total output of 590 horsepower. This will al…

Oh Volkswagen, why must you tease us? You have done it before with the Passat Alltrack concept and Golf GTD. Why must you try to break our hearts? Such is the case of the Golf R Variant (Wagon or Sportwagen to you or I) that will be debuting at the LA Auto Show this week. The Golf R Variant takes the standard Golf R and makes it a bit more practical. It still uses a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four with 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. With Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system, the Golf R Variant can hit 60 MPH in 5.1 seconds. Other features that carry over for the Golf R Variant include the ESC Sport stabil…

The 2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec is aimed at buyers who want to have fun tuning a vehicle without spending a lot money. Have you wanted a Range Rover Evoque, but wished that it didn't have that pesky roof? Land Rover has the vehicle for you. Last night, the British automaker revealed the 2016 Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The Evoque Convertible looks for the most part like the Coupe aside from the fabric roof. This roof maintains the profile of the Evoque when it is up. Folding the roof only takes about 18 seconds thanks to a power mechanism, and you can do it at speeds up to 30 MPH. The top is designed to fold into a certain way that the front part looks like a tonneau cover when stowed away. The Evoque Convertible is also one the first vehicles in the Land Rover lineup to debut…

At the other end of the spectrum, Ford is releasing a pocket rocket version of the Fiesta called the ST equipped with a 1.6 liter Ecoboost with 197 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque. Everything is bigger in the U.S., even concept cars. Take for example the Subaru Viziv-7 Concept that debut today at the LA Auto Show. Looking like a more musclar Toyota Highlander, the Viziv-7 is massive. Measuring 204.7 inches long, 79.9 inches wide and 73.2 inches tall including the roof rail, the Viziv-7 stands out in terms of size. Details to be aware of include a bold hexgonal grille, foglights integrated within the wheel arches, and a similar window design to the Outback. Subaru hasn't released details about the Vuziv-7's interior or powertrain - though it is safe to assume it has the company's symmetrical all-wheel drive. We do know this concept is a preview t…

I went to the show this year. Here are some impressions. 1.) Most manufacturers are trying to make appealing cars. Gone are the days when blatantly shoddy automobiles were allowed to make it to production. With the exception of maybe the Mitsubishi Mirage, you will be hard pressed to find G6 or Avenger-grade crap anymore. Manufacturers are putting in effort to make every one of their offerings at least somewhat innovative and appealing. The Europeans usually do very well in this regard, and this year, it's no exception. You can tell that GM and Kia are trying particularly hard by sweating the details. Perhaps most disappointing in innovation are Toyota, Honda, Acura, …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 The Hyundai Veloster is already a unique vehicle, being a three-door alien-styled hatchback. Today at the L.A. Auto Show, Hyundai decided to up the uniqueness with the Veloster C3 Roll Top concept. The 'C3' in the name is short for convertible three-door. I am currently en-route and posting from 35,000 feet, but I will update this post with more information as it becomes available. Previous LA shows is where we first saw the production version of important vehicles like the Lincoln MKC, Chevy Colorado, and BMW i3 as well as radical concepts like the Hyundai Veloster Roll-top. This year is looking to be even better with high tech and high style both in abunda…

Please post your impressions too, if you have some! Line up the troops Impressions never cease to cement a picture in our minds. My picture of GM after attending the auto show in the biggest market in the US, Los Angeles, is of an improving, yet ailing automaker, desperately in need of shedding a stodgy, outdated image and of growing appeal outside of a core market of nouveau rich, the truck market, and conservative traditionalists. Demographics of those around the GM stands could easily be generalized into those three categories, but it would be ignoring the fact that GM’s latest slew of product is drawing in new clientele: I even saw a group of Asians looking at one o…
