William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 20, 2013 Hyundai has decided to amp up the Veloster lineup a bit more by introducing a new R-Spec for the Veloster Turbo at the LA Auto Show today. The 2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec is aimed at buyers who want to have fun tuning a vehicle without spending a lot money. The Veloster Turbo R-Spec sees a number of mechanical changes to make much more sporty. It begins with a sports suspension which packs retuned springs and a stiffer transmission mount. A six-speed manual is paired with a B&M Racing Sport Shifter. The only item that doesn't see a change is the 1.6L Turbo GDI four-cylinder. That will still produce …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 Hyundai showed the new Santa Fe in concept form at the New York Auto Show this year and has now introduced the production model today at the L.A. Auto Show. The Santa Fe is almost the same as the Santa Fe Sport in many key areas except for one key area, space. The Santa Fe has an extra 3.9 inches in wheelbase which brings forth more legroom in the second row (about two inches), a useable third row, and more cargo space (80 cu.ft. will all of the seats folded). Power comes in the form of a 3.3L GDI V6 producing 290 HP and 252 lb-ft of torque which is coupled to a six speed automatic. You have the choice…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2012 Kia has been on a roll as of late with sales climbing 18% this year, despite one of its key products, the compact Forte lineup is one of the oldest vehicles in the lineup. Kia is hoping to rectify that with the brand 2014 Forte sedan shown yesterday at the L.A. Auto Show. We've had a sneak peak earlier this year when Kia introduced the K3 and it was assumed this would be coming here to the states. Sure enough, that is what happened. The new Forte shares many of the common design traits on newer Kias; large grille, LED light strips along the headlights, and a sweptback profile. Under the hood are two fo…

Previous Page Next Page Jeep's compact crossovers, the Compass and Patriot, were never the vehicles they could have been. The poor powertrains, questionable interiors, and lack of features kept them well behind the pack. Yet, these two models were big sellers, but that might due to big discounts on offer. Earlier this year, Jeep unveiled the replacement for the two models, the 2017 Compass which appears to be a big improvement. The Compass' new design is a mashup of the larger Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The front end features the iconic seven-slot grille and a similar headlight design to the Grand Cherokee. Let us go back in time to March of this year. It was at the Geneva Motor Show where Audi introduced the world to the third-generation TT Coupe and Cabriolet. Audi gave out information on what certain markets could expect with the TT, but the U.S. was left out. Well, Audi will be bringing over the 2016 TT Coupe and Cabriolet for its North America debut at the LA Auto Show next week. Compared to the European-Spec Audi TT, the North American TT is slightly different in power and model variations. The base TT uses a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, down 10 horsepower and 14 pound-feet to the European model. The TTS packs 292 h…

It is no secret that Jaguar Land Rover has been hard at work on developing electric vehicles. For the past few months, we have been reporting that the British automaker will be launching an electric crossover within the next couple of years. Last night at an event in Los Angeles, Jaguar unveiled the I-Pace concept. This is a preview of a production model that will be arriving in 2018. Depending on the angle, the I-Pace either looks like a crossover or hatchback. But one item is clear with the I-Pace concept's design, it borrows a fair amount from the C-X75 concept. From the heavily sculpted hood, raked windshield, and rectangular grille, it is clear that the C-…

On the eve of the LA Auto Show, Porsche unveiled the 2020 911. Wearing the codename of 992, the updated 911 retains the iconic shape and rear engine setup. But there are a number of improvements and technologies that the company hopes will make for a better sports car. Outside, the 2020 911 is noticeably wider. The front track has been extended by 1.77 inches, while the rear is as wide as some of the current 911 models - specifically Carrera 4, 4S, and GTS models. Door handles now sit flush with the body. I went to the show this year. Here are some impressions. 1.) Most manufacturers are trying to make appealing cars. Gone are the days when blatantly shoddy automobiles were allowed to make it to production. With the exception of maybe the Mitsubishi Mirage, you will be hard pressed to find G6 or Avenger-grade crap anymore. Manufacturers are putting in effort to make every one of their offerings at least somewhat innovative and appealing. The Europeans usually do very well in this regard, and this year, it's no exception. You can tell that GM and Kia are trying particularly hard by sweating the details. Perhaps most disappointing in innovation are Toyota, Honda, Acura, …

Please post your impressions too, if you have some! Line up the troops Impressions never cease to cement a picture in our minds. My picture of GM after attending the auto show in the biggest market in the US, Los Angeles, is of an improving, yet ailing automaker, desperately in need of shedding a stodgy, outdated image and of growing appeal outside of a core market of nouveau rich, the truck market, and conservative traditionalists. Demographics of those around the GM stands could easily be generalized into those three categories, but it would be ignoring the fact that GM’s latest slew of product is drawing in new clientele: I even saw a group of Asians looking at one o…

Jaguar has decided that the F-Type R Coupe needed some sharper claws. So at the LA Auto Show in a couple of weeks, the British luxury automaker will reveal an all-wheel drive version of the F-Type R Coupe. That means that 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque will now be flowing to all four wheels. Performance figures stand at 3.9 seconds for the run to 60 MPH and limited top speed of 186 MPH. What Jaguar is keeping quiet on is whether or not the all-wheel drive system will be available on the F-Type convertible or Supercharged V6 models. We'll likely learn about that in a couple of weeks. Measuring 204.7 inches long, 79.9 inches wide and 73.2 inches tall including the roof rail, the Viziv-7 stands out in terms of size. Details to be aware of include a bold hexgonal grille, foglights integrated within the wheel arches, and a similar window design to the Outback.
