The last couple of weeks has seen a flurry of announcements in signing on with Tesla corporation around their charging stations and their NACS charging standard. First, let understand that the Tesla NACS was offered to the auto industry that snubbed it and went to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) who developed the CCS1 connector that combined the standard J1772 connector with two high-speed charging pins. Currently the existing EVs other than Tesla and plugin Hybrids use this connector for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 (DC fast charging). For those wanting to learn more about this you can read on it here: Combined Charging System - Wikipedia It look…

According to Reuters, Nissan is working with two partners E.ON and EDF to develop technology and services to allow power stored in electric vehicles to be sold back to the grid at peak times. The technology is called vehicle-to-grid (V2G). In ideal situations, users charge their vehicles during off-peak energy prices and sell the energy back to the grid during times of high usage. By buying low and selling high, this would allow EV drivers to potentially have net zero charging costs. There is a benefit to energy grid operators also, it will allow the energy grid operators to smooth overall energy distribution, with the net effect of helping to stabilize the energy n…

It uses hydrogen, but in a closed system so that hydrogen refueling is not necessary. Imagine: A Chevy Volt with an E-85 two cylinder that charges the batteries not only with rotational energy, but also the waste heat energy from the combustion process. Known commonly as solid-state batteries, solid-electrolyte batteries are believed to be the next major step in battery technology. They offer superior safety to liquid-electrolyte batteries because of their lesser chance of a fire when their cases are punctured, and offer better energy density, which could translate into smaller, lighter batteries. My personal reasoning behind this is a Bill that's been proposed to Washington State Legislation - SB 6900 - 2007-08. I suspect other states will be introducing something similar over time... Samsung Battery Breakthrough Fast Charging and 45% Capacity Increase Samsung NewsRoom Announcement SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) has announced a breakthrough in developing a graphene ball coating that covers the nickel-rich cathodes and lithium-based anodes. So one would ask what is the big deal? As you increase the speed of recharging a battery, it wears down the anode and cathode. The graphene ball coating not only prevents this, but also allows for an increase in capacity to go along with the faster recharging. This improves the cyclability of charging / depleting a battery. This tech also has proven to allow for a very highl…

Talked about Jefferson's bible. Gave many quotes. discounted Thomas Paine and another's views, but said Paine was a magnificent speaker. One good quote or paraphrase of it, It takes many internal chains to have few external chains. order requires morality, when order breaks down, people call for government increases, this causes a reduction of freedom/liberty.
