And then there were none. Toyota announced today at their Altona plant on the western outskirts of Melbourne that the company would end local production in 2017 and transition into a sales and distribution company. The move will affect 2,500 manufacturing jobs. "This is devastating news for all of our employees who have dedicated their lives to the company during the past 50 years,"said Toyota Australia President and CEO Max Yasuda. "While we have been undertaking the enormous task of transforming our business during the past two years, our people have joined us on the same journey, which makes it even more difficult to announce this decision. We did everything that we…

Car and Driver had the chance to speak with Scion corporate manager Dave Harbuck, who let out that the automaker is planning to reveal two new models at the New York Auto Show next year. The first is a production model of the iM Concept that will debut in a couple week's time at the LA Auto Show. Many think that iM Concept is version of the Toyota Auris Touring Sports, a small wagon sold in European market. The second model is being kept under wraps for the moment. Car and Driver speculates that it could be the Aygo hatchback or the compact Verso MPV. Source: Car and Driver William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. Hey, in the quiet relase of the GS hybrid, did nayone catch on that its a CVT transmission? It's like they don't want you to know. CVT's have a rep for not being able to handle power. But they are quietly taking a chance with this and don't want anyone to know. THOUGHTS?

The IS will come with two different engines; a 2.5L V6 (IS 250) and 3.5L V6 (IS 350). Lexus hasn't released any performance figures, but has said that the 2.5L will come with a six-speed automatic and the 3.5L will have an eight-speed. There is also a new hybrid model, but that will be for the time being for Europe and Japan. Under the skin, the new IS features a multi-link rear-suspension design and steering from the larger GS. The IS Coupe is expected to carry many of the design elements and cues seen on the LF-CC. Powertrains are likely to be similar to the sedan; 2.5L and 3.5L V6 engines. Toyota is considering moving substantial parts of its U.S. headquarters from California to Texas. Bloomberg has learned from sources from the automaker that certain high-level employees were told of the move on Friday and that the company will make an announcement today. “It would be very consequential for Southern California. There might be some brain drain and tumult for employees, though it should be largely seamless to the consumer. This kind of thing can create some disruption of momentum,” said Jack Nerad, executive market analyst for Kelly Blue Book. Reasons for this move include putting Toyota USA's executives close by their manufacturing plants in San Antonio,…

Toyota corporation and it's CEO has been very clear from the start that they do not think people want EVs and have stated this with their dedication to Hydrogen cars that have bombed in their limited sales, fuel infrastructure and more. Toyota then came out with their first EV the bz4x that was a full-on recall / buy back only months later after production started in 2022. Now as Toyota is changing leadership as the current CEO moves to the board as Chairman and a younger by a few years takes over the CEO leadership of the company, Toyota is doing a radical shift. Highway Bribery Toyota Joins The Discount Fray Tom Van Riper, 10.03.08, 3:32 PM ET Forbes.com Link to article You know the outlook is bleak for the auto industry when Toyota jumps into the inventory clearance game that Detroit has monopolized for the past couple of years. Just a short time ago, industry powerhouse Toyota was gobbling up market share by charging close to full price while truck-heavy General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford were stuck bribing buyers with heavy discounts. Industry analysts harped on the reputations of Toyota and, to a lesser degree, its Japanese counterparts Honda and Nissan, for reliability and fuel efficiency. Consumers didn't need big i…

Toyota is recalling 482,000 Prius and Lexus CT 200h models for an issue with the side curtain airbags. According to Toyota, the hybrids use air bag inflators composed of two chambers welded together. Some vehicles may have a crack where the weld is. Over time, the crack can grow and cause the pieces to separate. "If an inflator separates, the CSA could partially inflate, and, in limited circumstances, one or both sections of the inflator could enter the interior of the vehicle," the company said in a statement. The models involved include, 2010 - 2012 Lexus CT 200h 2010 - 2012 Toyota Prius 2010 - 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In The fix involves dealers installin…

To meet the growing demand for pickups in the U.S., Toyota will be boosting production of the Tacoma and Tundra in 2016. Bill Fay, head of Toyota's U.S. division says a third shift has been added to their Baja California, Mexico plant (Tacoma) and an additional 250 workers, plus a more flexible work schedule to its San Antonio, Texas plant (Tacoma and Tundra). The new workers and extra production will be in place in San Antonio by the middle of next year, said Fay. At the moment, Toyota's dealers are sitting on a 20-day supply of the Tundra, while the Tacoma is at a 10-day supply. "If you were to ask any of our U.S. dealers what they want, I'd say every on…

Right on the heels of Toyota taking a minor beating at the hands of Consumer Reports while claiming it carries nary a scratch, the Japanese automaker is recalling eight passenger car models made as far back as September 1999 for various faults. In Japan, the recall amounts to 471,827 cars, with another 680 cars sent to five export countries that needed to be fixed. Toyota was given an offic…

With the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal hanging a dark cloud over the fuel, many automakers are considering whether or not they want to continue with diesel. Karl Schlicht, executive vice-president of Toyota Europe tells Autocar the company is wondering whether or not they should stop offering diesels. He uses the example of the Yaris Diesel. At the moment, the option makes "up less than 10%” of total sales for Europe. Dropping this model is a real possibility. “I think that anyone looking at investing in a new diesel plant, which might have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, will have to look long and hard at whether they would get payback,” said Schlicht. Unsurprisingly, various Chinese automotive news websites have leaked out images of the new 2013 Lexus ES today, ahead of its scheduled reveal at the Beijing Auto Show this April. It’s also unsurprising that the story hasn’t changed with Lexus’s Camry-based front-wheel drive sedan — it’s still the most expensive shade of beige money can buy. The changes from 2012 Camry to 2013 ES mostly include exterior styling that’s pretty much the same as what you get with any other Lexus (IS greenhouse, the recent GS's Predator-like front fascia, and LS taillights) and an interior that looks as if someone broke into BMW’s design studio late one night just to dig sketches out of a comp…

The main version will receive an improved version of the 3.5-liter V-6 from the IS350, producing 330 brake horsepower, and will be aimed fair and square at the next Nissan 350Z. However, if the grapevine is correct, Toyota will also do a V-6 hybrid using a ramped-up version of the GS450h powertrain on a shortened rear-drive platform. This one would pack 400 bhp. Few would doubt that the hybrid variant is really the car Toyota wants to build, becau…

We offer these tail lights by Spec-D in red LED or smoked LED but these instructions will work for any brand. I've also made two versions of the video here: Let me know what you think.

G. Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 12th, 2012 There isn’t an automaker more aware of its conservative image these days than Toyota. Since the company lost interest in continuing its classic performance models like the Celica, Supra, and MR-2, it fell off of enthusiasts’ radars almost completely. From there, the rising average age of its buyers quietly earned it a reputation as a company who built ornaments for retirement home parking lots. Just as Toyota was walking away publicly from performance cars however, it was also beginning a rather secretive ten year development program for the first ever Japanese supercar — the Lexus LFA. And although it was…
