This is from LH forums. Pretty neat info if you're looking for oil filters (besides the Mopar one, unless you own a Mopar). Oil Filters - Dissected I was wondering what the differences were between some of the current oil filters. The study done at Engine Oil Filter Study is quite dated. So, I bought some oil filters from the local stores, grabbed my hacksaw and away I went. All filters had an anti-back flow gasket. Findings: The basic Fram is still crap. Fewest pleats and therefore least amount of filter area. Cardboard end-caps. The TG Fram is better. Still has cardboard end-caps but has 15% more filter media and a screened by-pass valve. The XG …

I like these 2005-2007 GMC Sierra 1500 rims, and I'm curious if I could install and use them on my 2006 GMC Envoy: The size information I found is as follows: 6-bolt, 17x7.5, 31 offset, bolt pattern 6x139.7 This is the factory rim on the Envoy currently (size information I found is 6-bolt, 17x7, 50 offset, bolt pattern 6x127): I know they are not matching sizes, but can the larger Sierra rim be used on my Envoy? I need someone that can educate me on rim sizing please. TIA!

/ Is one better than the other? If yes, which one? Since there are a few little areas that require some attention, I figured having a repair manual will be very helpful. I know at least the Haynes book is available at my local Advance Auto and Auto Zone parts stores, not sure about the Chilton. I just had my break-in oil change completed at a little over 1700 miles and finally swapped on the all-season Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires that have been sitting in my guest shower for a month (no garage). The factory equipment Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires were sufficiently sporty and handled wet conditions well enough, but were loud with poor ride quality. Living in Maryland, all season tires are essential for daily driver duty because of fairly harsh winters. Believe it or not I get the question of just how much vinyl it would take to wrap an entire car sometimes. In so many ways I think it would be easier to just have your car painted but, since I'm in the business of vinyl, I felt compelled to figure it out. My plan is to take my car to the track, so I need track day tires that are still decent for street use. Right now, I'm thinking of a set of Mickey Thompson tires particularly the ET Street S/S. I also heard good things about the Potenza RE-71R. Any suggestions? Tread life is not a big concern; I just need tires that can give the best grip and ride handling.

I recently purchased Surf City Garage's Killer Chrome All Metal Polish for use on my 2015 GMC Canyon SLT chrome metal parts. If anyone here has used this product, I'd like to know if it would be safe to use this polish on the plastic chrome trim parts of my truck, such as the plastic chrome grille surround, front bumper plate, rear view mirror caps, and door handles. I don't want to damage the chrome finish of these plastic parts but would love them to shine after the next wash/wax/detail I do.

Been forever since I made a thread, so here's a fun one! I love gadgets, especially useful ones. First up, I have this GearWrench 1/4" drive Roto Ratchet These things are super handy in tight spaces, plus I like how you can use them like a screwdriver once the bolt/nut is loosened up. Some people complain they are fragile (they are 72 tooth), but I think that has more to do with the tool being misused to try and break loose really stuck bolts/nuts. I've had this for several years and never had a problem. It's been three years now since I purchased Michelin Energey Saver A/S tires for my wife's 2008 Pontiac G6 V6 Sedan with 17" tires. We've put approximately 55k miles on them and they're in need of replacement. Not a big fan of these Michelin's - tread life wasn't what I was hoping for and they didn't give me the ride/handling I was expecting from a Michelin. They were way better than the factory Hancock Optima tires that came on the G6 new, but the cost of these tires was not cheap. So I seek input from the automotive experts here at C&G. Anyone have any experience with Dupli-Color caliper paints? I mean, I like the idea because of the the fact that they may actually protect your calipers from rust an corrosion but it almost seems like you just won't notice it unless you go for the yellow. Still, the fact that you can paint the disc and all of the brake parts makes it more likely to be seen I suppose. This is in comparison to caliper covers which can only be used on the calipers. Hey everyone, There's a thread on Gearhead Central about using N2 in your tires. Supposedly there is evidence that it reduces deflation from seepage and can give you a 1% gain on MPG overall. The claim is that the N2 is larger than O2 but just looking at the Period Table you see that N has a weight of 7 and O has a weight of 8. These gases are diatomic so that means N2 weighs in at 14 and molecular oxygen at 16.From the weights at leat it seems that oxygen might be the bigger molecule so it should seep less. Then again it's been awhile so there may be more to this than meets the eye (think VSEPR theory). Thoughts anyone?

So, I have been doing a little research and it seems that the consensus is that four-point harnesses should NOT be used in regular cars that don't have roll bars and where the driver isn't wearing a helmet. I have just revised our product descriptions on our site to include these details but then I read that this may not be the case. What are your thoughts? Have you ever used four or five point harnesses in non-race cars?

Not sure where to put this since there isn't a DIY mod or customization sub-forum so apologies if this is miscategorized. A new product we're developing is custom rim wraps and, from what I can find on the interwebs this looks to be a pretty popular thing: http://customized-wheels.blogspot.com/2013/10/custom-rim-wraps.html So, what are everyone's thoughts? Would you wrap your rims or would you go with chrome or aluminum rims? I think there is so much more room for personalization (if you check that link above you'll see a company that did a set of custom camo wrapped rims) with vinyl wraps but maybe that's my bias.

So I installed these on my Subaru 6 months ago and thought I'd share my review. PIAA Super Silicone Wipers "18 Passenger Side "24 Driver's Side I ordered these from tirerack.com. Yes, the time has finally come for new tires for the Intrepid. These will actually be the first brand new, complete set I've bought for a car. After much research I've decided to try Falken Azenis PT722 A/S 245/45/R18 tires. These are V Rated, Ultra High Performance All Season Tires. I chose these because they seem to have excellent dry grip, good wet grip, and excellent wear. I'm not concerned about snow performance, since the car is stored during the winter. I'm super excited to get these on next week and take the car up my favorite driving road with its new R/T rotors and ceramic pads. I'll give first impressions next weekend.

We were at HersheyPark on Friday and returned late at night to a dead battery in my Envoy. Thankfully I had jumper cables and my wife's car there (step-son drove a friend), so I was able to drive it home with no problem (charged for 2 hours). I happened to find this stuff on clearance for $1.95 a while ago and picked it up for some of the older lawn mower I work on which have chrome handlebars. It actually works very well on chrome, removing surface rust and stains with easy and really shining the stuff up. I'm pretty sure the main ingredient in it magic, and I'll show you why. Today I was detailing the car and had the hood open to top off he washer fluid. While open I got the idea to try this stuff on the aluminum of the engine, recalling it saying it worked well for aluminum. If you guys remember from the top-end overhaul on my green tahoe, I borrowed a special puller to remove the power steering pulley from the pump. The tool I borrowed was a Snap-on and it costs about $150. Here's the problem, I want to buy an equivalent puller kit. Well its a bit sooner than I was planning, but it looks like tires are on order for the Intrepid. Girlfriend wants to go to KS for Thanksgiving, and we want to take my car because its the most comfortable. However, the Michelin Pilot Alpines are starting to show tread wear, but more importantly they are showing dry rot. For anyone who is curious about how well compounds and polishes work on restoring paint, I thought I'd share a few examples using Meguiar's Ultimate line. Lawnmowers are lucky if they ever get washed in their lifetime. I wash mine after each use, and I also do a thorough detailing of the ones I repair. Check this out.

Was talking to my buddy, for some reason he has a new Jetta. He's also into stereo competition. So today he says he wants to tear out the entire interior and Dyna-Mat the pass compartment & trunk. Myself and a friend put a 3M headlight restoration kit I got when I bought my brakes to work today. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Short of buying a brand new headlight these things are as could as you could possibly hope for. The 3M works amazingly. I went a step further and put 3M ScotchGuard on the lens. This will protect it keep it from yellowing again. The driver's side already had it applied a couple years ago and still looks new. 3M rocks!

We've had a few threads about tire opinions, now its my turn. Getting to be time for tires for my car. Anyone used or know someone who has run Hankook tires? Specifically Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110s. The back light on the readout on my radio in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix has burnt out, so I can no longer see the clock, which I find frustrating. Anyone know how involved replacing the radio is on an 04 Grand Prix? I also was planning to get a radio from either ebay (if I can find one) or a local salvage yard, if they have any, but my concern would be putting a new radio in that will burn out soon also. As you probably can tell, I want to start personalizing my '06 GMC Envoy SLT to an extent. Thanks to all the input on the rim question in the other post. Now for something else... One "luxury" feature of modern vehicles I like is the leather and wood steering wheel. The Envoy SLT model never offered it, but the Envoy Denali came standard with one (pictured above). The "wood" on the wheel matches the "wood" on my dash, so I think it would be a great item for me to enjoy. So I decided to shell out $50 a pop for K&N drop-in air filters for the Cobalt and the Colorado after reading a few Cobalt owners report some mpg and hp gains after replacing the conventional filter. I won't get to do the installs till the weekend (when I also do the fuel filter on the car) but have any of you experienced any worthwhile increases in power or economy from one of these filter? If nothing else, they'll pay for themselves over time since they are reusable.

Took advantage of the Buy one, get one 50% off promo after I clocked out from work today. All I can say is: Wow! It's almost distracting just how well they work. They completely clear the windshield with no chatter or streaking. Completely silent, and for a brief moment the windshield is 100% water free. Those combined with Rain-X meant on my trip home in the rain on the highway I had the wipers on slowest speed. I'm sold.

I'm going to need to replace the factory/OEM Michelin Cross Terrain tires (P245/65-17) on my 2006 GMC Envoy soon. Almost two weeks ago I started working at my wife's company, and this means my previous commute went from 7 miles one-way to a current commute of now 34 miles one-way. The good thing is that we drive in together, so the G6 gets driven 3 days a week and the Envoy 2 days to balance out the mileage. Well, I guess there is a first time for everything... The like the first time ever, I'm not detailing the wife's car. (At least the interior, anyways). I'm going to be moving in the next couple of months. I found a condo that's perfect with one exception, possibly: No hoses to wash the car. With me being me, the tiny detail of not being able to wash my car myself is a dealbreaker. A popular solution for this problem seems to be using one of these waterless car wash liquids. Of course I'm skeptical because the last thing I want to do is scratch my paint. The one that seems to be the best one out there is Optimum No Rise. Okay, I'm just wondering which you guys do...and what you think does better. I've heard of bit of everything the last few weeks. I've always done very well using a system wax (Mothers/Meg's), and the paint on my cars are in great shape. I've debated about using a clay bar on the Cobalt to see if I can really bring the paint out. As a matter of fact, it was the only car that did not get a system wax last year. Your thought on the subject?

My engine has what's known as the "3.x tick". On cold start ups the car will tick. Speeding on the temperature the tick would either go away after a few seconds or last until the engine has fully warmed up (the colder it is the longer the tick lasts). This is considered normal with the 3.2/3.5 motors in the LH cars (possibly the Pacficia as well). However, it annoys the hell out of me, especially when the ticking lasts until the engine has achieved operating temperature. Now that it's getting cold out (anything 50 and below) this happens on a daily basis. One of the things I've always liked about the '80s & '90s and some '00s Pontiac models was the dark-tinted taillights that came on the uplevel or GT trim lines. One of the things I never liked about the G6 Sedan is the bright red taillights (see attached picture). Well after only 29,000 miles with the factory Good Year Eagle RS-A's the Bonneville is in need of some new tires. I have two options that won't break the bank, and I will post both of them. Having said that I am open to suggestions, the tires must be 17 inch P235/55 high performance (or better) all season tires, with a speeding rating of H *130 mph* (or higher). The heaviest load I'd need to trailer is a trailer full of cord wood probably 4 x 8. I still own apartments and this vehicle would be used for that kind of work. Well I finally got around to giving the Prizm some lovin' and bought it some new front tires and got it a front end alignment. The tires had dry rot and it was pulling bad to the right. I talked with the shop. they had cheap tires but of course they were Chinese junk. The receptionist (who handles tires and phone calls and so on) recommended Bridgestone Insignias, more pricey but she said they were worth it. Good all weather traction and 65k life. So $210 later teh fronts are new. Will do the rears before the first rotation is due. It's like driving a new car. Sadly, since it's been a while since we've seen 76, I am asking you guys what you think about Carquest stuff. It's pretty much the only parts store that is far away from me (about 40 miles) I know in many ways they are like Napa, but since I've not shopped there before, I'd figured I'd ask. I've been eyeballing KYB struts for the wife's car, and I found that most of CQ's struts and shocks are made by KYB. And for the price, I'm willing to drive. I just wish you could order online.......

Well, I had to replace a size 168 marker lamp in the rear bumper of the car. Without going into details, it was a pain in the ass. I've never had to remove so many parts just to gain access to a lamp socket. I reviewed the other lamps for what they required for access and shook my head. Head and tail lamp housings all need to be removed just to change out a lamp. One of my rear tail lamps must have been burning hot as the filament has blackened and dimmed the light. One of the things I want to do is get a security system of some kind for, well, both cars. IMHO alarms are useless wastes of money. I like teh idea of a kill switch, we have one on the old Caravan and that prevented it from being stolen a second time. However, I'm not big on cutting into my electrical systems. I came across a product called Starter Sentry by Masterlock. Seems like just what I'm looking for. Has anyone had any experience with it?

Yesterday I woke up at 8 AM spent 6 hours washing, claying, and waxing with Turtle Wax Car Wash, Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit, and Meguiar's Next Tech 2.0 Wax. I'm sold and will swear by the stuff...my car was shiny before, but now the paint is like glass and when sunlight hits it, light bounces off in all directions. I didn't do any polish although it could use it in a few places, so I may do that in the spring. Anyway, take a gander.

I like my 2008 Vue so far - I've put 18000 miles on it and the more I drive it, the more I can honestly say that I like it. But at the end of the day, I really miss my old pick up trucks. So for giggles I went and test drove a new Z71 with the 5.3L V8 and the 6 speed auto during my lunch hour. Compared to how I remember my 2001 and 2004 Sierras, I thought it felt a little bit sluggish off the line, despite more power than my previous trucks. I used some Duplicolor touch up paint on a few rock chips a few days ago and as I was doing it I noticed the brush that comes with it isn't that great. It's too large and it made it hard to get the paint evened out. I did my best and thought maybe it would even out as the paint dried, but it came out looking like crap. I tried applying some clear coat over top hoping that might help, but it really didn't do much either. What would you guys recommend doing to fix this if it's possible? Do I need to find a small sandblock and re-do it, or is there a polish that could help even it out?

So I got a replacement plenum for my 3.5 yesterday. The guys at Jack's have been really good about letting me get parts that they forgot or were broken for free. The only had one though, from a`99 intrepid. This car's hood was opened to the point where it was laying on the windshield, and as such it's been baking in the sun for at least a year (its been there a while). Luckily the plenum looks intact, but the sun has faded the plastic. Before I put it on the car I figured I'd clean it up and see if I could make it look a little more presentable. Cleaning got the dirt off but did little to actually make it look nicer. Then I remembered I had a can of tire shine kicking…
