BMW released a preview of the BMW Concept 4 for the Frankfurt Auto Show today. The concept features a large vertical grille that will become the new face of the BMW 4-series. The slim headlights have no glass cover allowing a sculptured look to the LED elements. The 4-series features a stretched out hood, long wheelbase, and short overhangs to give an elegant and sporty appearence while the wheel arches contribute to a powerful stance. BMW did not give any hints as to the powertrain, but the 4-series currently comes in 248 horsepower, 320 horsepower, and 425 horsepower flavors. This low slung concept is clearly an early look at the next 4-series refresh coming…

Hyundai teased an image of its『45』Concept today ahead of the Frankfort International Motor Show. The car will be a fully electric vehicle and will be a symbolic milestone for Hyundai's future EV design. The concept looks back to the brand's first model in the 1970s for inspiration and is visibly angular. The new design language is an evolution of Hyundai's "Sensuous Sportiness" design. ‘Sensuous’ stands for enhanced emotional values that customers can experience through design, and ‘Sportiness’ is determined to implement those values through innovative mobility solutions. The 『45』Concept will be unveiled on September 10th. View full article

For past few years, Mercedes' AMG division has been hard at work on building a hypercar that uses tech from Formula One. Last year, the company officially teased this project. Tonight at an event in Frankfurt, Mercedes-AMG revealed the Project One show car. Let's get the big thing out of the way, the Project One has the same powertrain as the Formula One car: A 1.6-liter turbocharged V-6 with a split turbo and electric motor that's good for 670 horsepower and can rev to 11,00 rpm. Another electric motor is integrated with the turbocharger to help spin up the turbine and recapture wasted exhaust energy. Two more electric motors are used to drive the front wheels. Total…

It was only a few weeks ago when Porsche introduced the third-generation Cayenne. We knew there would more powertrains coming down the road. So we were a bit surprised that at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche unveiled the high-performance Cayenne Turbo. Under the hood is the same engine you'll find in the Panamera Turbo; a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 offering up 550 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque. This comes paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Porsche quotes a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds (3.7 seconds if you add the Sport Chrono package). Top speed stands at 177 mph. The chassis features a three-chamber air suspension system, Porsche Dynamic Cha…

BMW's i lineup covers the extreme ends of the spectrum with the compact i3 and sporty i8. But a new concept shows BMW's i lineup could be getting something in the middle. This is the BMW i Vision Dynamics which many believe previews the rumored i5 sedan. Visually, the Vision Dynamics looks like a futuristic version of the 4-Series Gran Coupe with a sloping roofline and small greenhouse. The front end has a 'unique' take on the twin kidney grille. BMW says it acts as an "intelligence surface," most likely hinting there are sensors being used for various systems such as self-driving. With an overall length just short of 190-inches, this puts the Vision Dynamics in the …

Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations has been building up a reputation with high-performance and ultra-luxury models. They're hoping to add capable vehicles to that list with the debut of the Land Rover Discovery SVX. SVX will be reserved for models that can go anywhere and this Discovery fits the bill. The chassis boasts a lifted air suspension with long-travel dampers and new knuckles; Hydraulic Active Roll Control that provides better wheel articulation, and a set of 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires. Land Rover's Terrain Response 2 system has been retuned for the SVX to provide maximum traction no matter the terra…

Audi is very much synonymous with quattro all-wheel drive. But what happens when you take the quattro part of one of their vehicles, like the R8. You end up with the R8 V10 RWS (Rear Wheel Series) that debuted tonight in Frankfurt. “A limited-edition special model for customers with an appreciation for essential driving enjoyment, the R8 V10 RWS is an absolutely exclusive offer. With its mid-mounted V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, it successfully brings the driving concept of our R8 LMS racing car to the streets,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH in a statement. By removing the all-wheel drive system, Audi was able to drop 110 pounds from the coupe…

Another auto show season is upon us with the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. Before the doors open at the show tomorrow, Volkswagen is holding their group day preview event where the various brands roll out their debuts. For Volkswagen, the big debut is the I.D. Crozz II Concept. Volkswagen has made some slight changes for concept since its first showing at the Shanghai Auto Show back in the spring. The front end features a new headlight design that kind of looks like an eye. The two-tone paint comprised of red and sliver helps make the concept pop. One area that may confuse some folks are the doors. The front are hinged conventionally while the rear are sliding. …

BMW's Concept X7 iPerformance made an early debut this week due to a leak and the response could be summed up as eww. Today, BMW has officially revealed the concept before its debut at Frankfurt and we highly doubt opinions are going to change. Cartoonish and polarizing are the words we would use to describe the Concept X7 iPerformance. The front end features the largest twin-kidney grilles which makes it look it has a set of buck teeth. This is emphasized by the narrow headlights and massive bumper vents. The side profile at first glance reminds of the Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LX 570 with a large area of glass and similar styling for the rear pillars. Massive 23-inc…

It has been 15 years since Bentley unveiled the Continental GT. Since that time, the British automaker has been making tweaks and changes to keep it in the spotlight. But there comes a point where you need to start anew. Last night, Bentley pulled the sheets off the second-generation Continental GT. The EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept is very evident as an inspiration for the redesigned Continental GT's design. A blunt nose features a large, rectangular mesh grille. The side profile comes with flared wheel arches for the front fenders and sculpted rear haunches. Around back are a set of taillights shaped like ellipses. Bentley has changed up the proportions of the Continental …

When Mini held a trial period for the Mini E back in 2009 and 2010, there was the thought that Mini was close to launching an electric vehicle. But that did not happen as what was learned from this would be used for the BMW i3. At long last, Mini will be launching an electric vehicle in near future. Before that, the automaker will be previewing the model as a concept at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show. The electric concept looks like a somewhat futuristic version of the current Cooper hardtop model with a streamlined front, handles integrated into the doors, odd looking wheels, and the taillights forming the Union Jack using LEDs. There is no info…

BMW's i3 has been primarily focused on efficiency. But 2018 sees the German automaker introduce a performance-oriented version. Making its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2018 BMW i3s comes with a slightly boosted electric motor (184 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, up from 170 and 184 respectively). BMW's engineers have also modified the motor controls and tapered roller bearings to improve performance at the top end. The end result is an improved 0-60 mph time of 6.8 seconds (7.2 seconds for the standard i3) and a top speed of 100 mph. Other performance tweaks include a lowered suspension, widened track, revised tuning for the springs…

Whether Porsche purists want to admit it or not, the Cayenne is an important model. For a time, it was Porsche's best selling model - the Macan holds that title now. The model also generates a fair amount of profit for the company. With new and redesigned competitors arriving, Porsche decided it was time to introduce a new Cayenne. The new Cayenne is somewhat boring to look at, especially when compared to the last-generation model. The front and sides mimic the Macan, while the back is inspired by the upcoming Panamera Sport Turismo. It might become a bit more exciting when other models such as Turbo are launched down the road. Overall size grows by three inches to 1…

Porsche has taken the first shot at Tesla with the introduction of the Mission E concept revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last night. The concept boasts an 800 Volt electrical system with two permanent magnet synchronous motors - similar motors to the ones used in the 919 Hybrid LMP1 racecar. The powertrain produces around 600 horsepower and gives the Mission E performance figures of 0-60 MPH around 3.5 seconds and hitting 124 MPH in 12.5 seconds. Overall range is estimated at 310 Miles. Now this is more range than the comparable Tesla P85D which offers 305 Miles. But with the P90D just around the corner, Tesla says range will increase about six percent. One o…

On the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen has introduced the second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan. The new model looks to be a smaller version of the Tiguan. As for overall size, the Tiguan has grown 2.4 inches in overall length, 1.2 inches in overall width, and 1.3 inches lower. Overall weight has dropped 110 pounds thanks in part to the Tiguan moving towards the MQB platform. The interior takes a lot of ideas from the Golf in terms of design with a similar dash design and placement of various controls. Available on the options list is a 12.3 screen in the instrument cluster that provides various information and a heads-up display. For the European ma…

It has been a long two years since Jaguar revealed the C-X17 concept crossover at Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then, Jaguar has been teasing us with F-Pace mules wrapped in some interesting camouflage. But on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, the British automaker has finally pulled the covers off the production model. From the transition of concept to the production model, the F-Pace looks largely the same aside from minor changes to the trim. The body is comprised of aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium, and composites. This allows the F-Pace to have the same torsional stiffness numbers as the new XF. The interior features seating for five people and dashboard…

A new entrant is coming into the entry-level luxury class. At an event on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Infiniti revealed the 2017 Q30 hatchback. The production model isn't much different from the concept at the shown at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show with a front end seen on a number of Infiniti sedans, and bold sculpting along the side. The interior is focused on the driver with a simple layout for the center stack and sport seats. The Q30 comes from the partnership of Diamler and Nissan. That means the Q30 has some bits of Mercedes-Benz's compact luxury car - the A-Class. It begins with Mercedes' 2.0L turbo-four with 208 horsepower for the U.S. Other coun…

We knew it was coming and Bentley has revealed it before Frankfurt. Meet the 2017 Bentley Bentayga, the luxury automaker's first SUV - along with being the fastest and most powerful one. The Bentayga is the result of Bentley going back to the drawing board and revising the EXP 9F concept that got a lukewarm reception at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The SUV bears a number of design cues seen on Bentley's current lineup such as as four round LED headlamps, mesh grille insert, and crease along the hood. The side profile boasts muscular haunches and a bold character line. One of the interesting features of the Bentayga deals with the roof as 60 percent is made up of glass.…

After some leaks showing off the vehicle, Kia has decided to release some pictures of the next-generation Sportage before its official debut at Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Compared to the current Sportage, the new model is much bolder thanks to a lower and wider “tiger nose” grille, new headlights, and wider fenders. Kia designer's retain the distinctive swept-back silhouette of the current model. We don't have any details on the interior or powertrains. Kia is keeping those under wraps till next month. Source: Kia Press Release is on Page 2 Dynamic energy: Bold new exterior design for next-generation Kia Sportage Kia Motors has tod…

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show, Hatchback, Opel 2010 Opel Astra - Click above for high-res image gallery By now, you've likely already seen official shots of the 2010 Opel Astra, both inside and out. Of course, catching a glimpse of a new shape under the harsh lighting of an auto show often brings a different point of view than the automaker's own glitzy press shots. In the case of the latest Astra, though, the new car looks nearly as fetching caught with the lenses of our own DSLRs as it did in GM's official photography. We especially like the new Astra's interior furnishings, which are a major step up from the current model's rather boring and somber duds. While …

Filed under: Concept Cars, Frankfurt Motor Show, Coupe, Hybrid, Performance, BMW BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery BMW hosted a lengthy press conference during which cars zoomed all around its raised track, and at the end the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept silently took the stage. It's a glass-topped Hot Wheels with two engines, a deep dish seventies-looking steering wheel and matching contoured wheels. Around the back corners the design elements get a little busy, but taken as a whole the EfficientDynamics Concept comes together well. Give it a more demure paint job and its built-in details will stand out beautifully. If t…

The Renault Zoe ZE — shock-of-shocks — is yet another electric car concept making its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. But, this is the first we've seen to infuse the cabin air with L'Oreal skin moisturizer. How very French. The The Zoe ZE (that's Zero Emissions by the way) hits all the familiar concept car touchstones, wacky shape, unrealistic dramatic lighting, gigantic wheels, etc., but it also features are rather realistic powertrain. It's all-electric with a lithium-ion battery and a 95 HP electric motor with 165 lb-ft of torque. It's got an 87 MPH top speed which brings out a retractable spoiler, which might be arguably necessary. So that L'Oréal thing. The c…
