  1. Are You The Hyundai Veloster Turbo's Engine? *UPDATED* William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 22, 2011 Since the Hyundai Veloster has come out, the rumor of a more powerful turbocharged engine has been running around. This week, Hyundai has announced a new turbocharged 1.6L I-4 and this could be the rumored Veloster turbo. The new Gamma 1.6T GDI engine, as Hyundai calls it, should be good for 204 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque from 1750 to 6000 rpm. Like the 1.6L GDI currently in the Veloster, the 1.6T takes advantage of gasoline direct-injection to help boost efficiency and lower emissions. Hyundai says the new engine will meet bo…

  2. Hyundai Motor America reinforced their commitment to EVs in making them more accessible and competitive in today's evolving U.S. EV market. In better alignment with current market dynamics, supporting increased U.S. production volume, Hyundai announced for the 2026 Model year price reductions ranging from $7,600 to $9,800 dollars across the complete model lineup. To quote president and CEO of Hyundai North America Randy Parker, “Hyundai is taking bold steps to ensure our award-winning IONIQ 5 remains a top choice for EV buyers, this pricing realignment reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional technology and innovation without compromise.”…

I think a gent who takes his kid to the same D/C I do works for Hyundai. He's always showing up with some Hyundai and special mfr. plates. Well, the other day he had a brand new Azera. In the limited bit of time I got to scope it out, here's what I thought. exterior-uninspiring. A very droopy, melted butter look and the rear fender flares seemed contrived, IMHO. Nothing about the face or tail was particularly standout. The overal shape was lacking of any sort of eyecatching ways. As a blandmobile, its not anything great either. interior-appeared to be spacious. The seats themselves looked to be of high quality leather and nice to look at and sit in. Of course…

  4. Hyundai was caught off guard by the rise of crossovers with their car heavy lineup. This has caused their sales to fall down. But the Korean automaker is hoping to change that with the announcement of eight new or redesigned crossover models by 2020. The plan will begin with the launch of the Kona crossover in March and will include a wide range of models from a small A-segment model to 8-seat midsize model taking the place of the Santa Fe. There are also plans for an electric, hydrogen, and diesel powered models. The electric one is likely the Kona. “The Kona is only the beginning of our product revolution for Hyundai. These vehicles are aimed squarely at the sal…

Hyundai Continues to Study Pickup for U.S. Buyers By: Mike Levine Posted: 05-04-07 18:17 PT © 2007 PickupTruck.com, Illustration © 2006 Mark Stehrenberger Design Studios Following recent news after South Korea signed a free trade agreement with the United States, Hyundai is contemplating using its new 'BH' rear wheel drive platform for a lot more than sedans, coupes, and sports cars. "The new chassis opens up new doors. We're considering using it to build a pickup," says Miles Johnson, a Hyundai product public relations manager. The 'BH' architecture was highlighted by Hyundai during the 2007 New York Auto Show. It served as the foundation for the Concept Genesis …

  6. Hyundai has a major revamp of its crossover lineup on the horizon. Speaking with Automotive News, Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski outlined plans to meet the current demand of crossovers for the U.S. Beginning with their current crossover lineup, the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport will grow in size and separate from one another. The Santa Fe will grow into an eight-seat crossover, and the Sport will get a name change along with a new design to make it more rugged. The Tuscon will grow as well but will not get a major change in its mission. Hyundai will also be introducing a new B-segment crossover in 2018 to compete with the likes of the Honda HR-V, Jeep Re…

  7. Electric cars have great acceleration, but they can seem dull to drive. Hyundai didn't get that memo when creating the 640-horsepower Ioniq 5 N. They tout that the Ioniq 5 N is truly fun and a "corner rascal". Piloting the Ioniq 5 N at the Nürburgring was Sport Auto's test driver, Christian Gebhardt. Gebhardt has driven both the Ioniq 5 N and last-generation BMW M2 CS. The Ioniq 5 N completed a time of 7 minutes and 49.59 seconds, only 2.6 seconds slower than the BMW. Back in 2020, Gebhardt completed a time of the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 42.99 seconds. Hyundai used Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, while the last-generation M2 CS had Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. 10. Hyundai has released released details of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. While visually it remains close to the non-hybrid version, it does get a different grille, rear spoilers, and special alloy wheels to fine tune aerodynamics. Hyundai has two technologies debuting on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. First is a solar roof system that recharges the battery to increase travel distance and unnecessary battery discharge. When the system gets an average of 6 hours a day of charging, it is expect to increase travel distance by about 800 miles annually. The second is a new 6-speed hybrid automatic transmission with Active Control Shift (ACS). The transmission is …

  12. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 6, 2012 Hyundai could be adding a subbrand to further seperate its upscale cars from its mainstream vehicles. “There's a conversation going on within the company that says, Does having the Hyundai badge on the premium vehicles sell more vehicles, or does it restrict us from selling more vehicles?” said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales for Hyundai Motor America. The plan, if put into motion would would replace Hyundai's round "H" badge with a new badge on the Equus, Genesis sedan and Genesis Coupe. The vehicles would be branded as Genesis with an alphanumeric naming system and be sold at Hyu…

  13. What you see before you is the Hyundai Vision G Concept, which debut yesterday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This concept gives a hint of what the Korean automaker possibly has in store for higher end vehicles. "The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles – a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues,” said Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s president and chief design officer. This is evident when compare the Vision G to another Hyundai luxury concept, the HCD-14. Where the HCD-14 was striking with a large grille, su…

  14. Hyundai has been selling the Genesis sedan (what we know as the G80) in the United Kingdom since 2015 and has recently been axed. The reason? Hyundai only sold 50 Genesis sedans - not 500, but just 50. "The Genesis was never built for the European market, it was conceived for the Korean and American markets. It shows a saloon car with a 3.8-litre engine is not really what is demanded in Europe, and in particular in the UK," said Hyundai UK managing director Tony Whitehorn to Autocar. "We brought it in as much just to sample it: lots of people told us they’d driven a Genesis in America and liked it. It was also available in Australia and had done well there, so i…

  16. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 14, 2013 Hyundai's showing for the 2013 Detroit Auto Show was a very unique concept named the HCD-14 Genesis. While the concept isn't quite the real deal, it gives us some clues of what to expect. The overall design is very much a classic concept car with a almost vertical front end, large grille, and rear-hinged doors. Aside from those dream features, the HCD-14 does feature some design cues that might end up on the next Genesis like hard-edged body creases running along the side of the car and the coupe-like roofline running all the way to the end of vehicle. Other features to take note are a heads-up displ…

  17. After teasing us for a bit, Hyundai has finally pulled the curtains back on the first model from the new high-performance N division - the 2018 i30 N. It certainly looks the part with new bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler, and the choice of 18 or 19-inch wheels. The i30 N's interior comes with new sport seats with blue stitching, a new steering wheel with blue buttons for the different driving modes, and aluminum pedals. Under the i30 N's hood is a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four with 246 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. An optional Performance Pack boosts horsepower to 271. Power is routed to the front wheels through a six-speed manual. 0-60 mph is said to…

  18. The Hyundai Sonata is likely to make a big splash with its good looks when it hits dealers in a few weeks. One thing that was missing from the original release of the Sonata was an up-level engine option. To review, the Sonata can be optioned with a 191 horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 180 horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with a wide peak torque band and 195 lb.-ft. Gone is the 245 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo. Back in April, Hyundai confirmed that it would produce an N-Line version of the car with 275 horsepower. That car is likely to be debuting at the LA Auto Show later this month. The kicker is the N-line is not the full performance edition like …

  21. Just last week, we reported that the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse will see a large price jump. In what is looking to be an industry trend, Hyundai just reported significant price increases for its large mid-size 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. The new 2024 Santa Fe base price starts at $33,950 plus a destination charge of $1,395, bringing the out-the-door MSRP to $35,345. That is $5,260 more expensive than a 2023 Santa Fe SE at $28,750 plus $1,335 destination. The middle-of-the-road "rugged" trim XRT sees the largest jump in price, climbing $6,350 from $34,250 to $40,600 before destination charges. Buyers of the base hybrid trim see the least of the increase, only $2,540 f…

Spied: 2008 Hyundai Mesa Meet the next vehicle dedicated to Hyundai's love of the American Southwest: the Mesa. It is Hyundai's newest and largest SUV, larger than the mid-size Santa Fe but not quite as large as full-size competitors. A great bit of detail can be seen in these photos inside and out. The interior looks to be a fusion of the Infiniti FX and Lexus RX. Read "When Santa Fe just isn't big enough" @ Edmunds

  24. Dave Zuchowski, the new CEO of Hyundai Motor America has some ideas for new products in segments where the company doesn't compete. The first is an addition of a third premium model to join alongside the Genesis and Equus. "That's one of the conversations. I think it's fair to say that within a couple of years there may be another premium" nameplate. "That's a space where we think there's some opportunity," said Zuchowski to Automotive News For the past couple of years, we've been hearing rumors of a compact luxury sedan to possibly compete with the likes of the BMW 3-Series. When asked about this, Zuchowski declined to comment. The other model in consideration is a su…

  25. Collaborations between automakers and tech companies are becoming commonplace as self-driving vehicles and a sharing economy are starting to enter the limelight. Doing either one of these alone is difficult and it appears one automaker is realizing this. Bloomberg reports that Hyundai is in talks with Google about a possible partnership. Hyundai Motor President Jeong Jin Haeng said in an interview the two companies share some "common areas that may require cooperation". One of those common areas is autonomous technologies. Both Hyundai and Kia are lagging far behind when it comes to this. It doesn't hurt that former Hyundai USA CEO, John Krafcik heads up Google's auto…

  26. Hyundai has announced that is has developed the world's first road noise countering active noise control system. While active noise control is available in many makes and models, it is limited to when the noise is constant and predictable. Hyundai's new system is able to analyze noise at a much faster pace. The digital sound processor can respond to a noise in 0.002 seconds. Cabin microphones constantly monitor road noise and then the speaker system emits sound waves that cancel out drone or engine roughness. Hyundai says they are able to decrease cabin noise by up to 3dB. That means that noise is cut nearly in half as compared to running without RANC. In EVs that…

  28. The Hyundai Santa Cruz has been a source of wonder - will they put into production or not? For the longest time, Hyundai's U.S. office say they wanted to do it, but it was the home office that had to make the final call. It seems we have a final decision. “We have made the decision. We have not made the announcement,” said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America to Motor Trend. That decision is a yes. Zuchowski said they are busy at work on a production version. The Santa Cruz's design went in for a review earlier this month and they are close to finalizing it. The production model is expected to use the same platform as the Tucson and could…

  29. Hyundai today released images of their latest Hyundai Sonata refresh for 2024. This is a rather quick turnaround as the current Hyundai Sonata was released in 2019 as a 2020 model. This could be the last hurrah for the Sonata because it is rumored that Hyundai will ax the Sonata nameplate at the end of this run. While the current Sonata is one of the more handsome designs in the dwindling sedan market, Hyundai felt the refresh was necessary to bring the Sonata in line with their EV lineup. The visual similarities between the 2024 Sonata and the recently released Hyundai Ioniq 6 aren't by accident. While riding on the same platform, externally, the 2024 Sonata ado…

  31. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 2, 2012 Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few years or so, you have most likely seen the ads from Hyundai touting they sell more vehicles that get 40 MPG on the highway than any other automaker in the U.S. Well, those ads are done as Hyundai and Kia admitted to overstating the estimated fuel economy posted on window stickers of about 900,000 vehicles sold since late 2010. This announcement comes in part from an EPA investigation which couldn't replicate fuel mileages Hyundai and Kia had claimed on window stickers. The investigation found out that 41% of vehicles sold by the two automakers are…
