As I write this light sweet crude oil has topped $75 a barrel. Hear me out. As I've said before Global Peak Oil Production is going to hit the industrialized world like a ton of bricks in the face. It's already begun. The smallest rumors in petroleum or gasoline disruption magnify themselves many times in price increases. Gasoline will be over $5 a gallon nationwide soon. Meanwhile, GM is making investments in large SUVs, crossovers, V-8 powered RWD sedans and mending its "performance" and "luxury" nameplates because that's where the profit is. For now. Soon, these vehicles will be languishing on the lots with HEAVY incentives despite their goodness. GM would d…

GM Kills Zeta and future RWD plans, Camaro and G8 only Zetas to make it to US, Sigma to soldier on. Nothing like some bad news to be announced just when things are looking positive. On the heels of the Detroit Auto Show. GM has announced that Zeta is officially dead, and only the G8 and Camaro will see American shores. Bob Lutz stated that Sigma will have to solider on, blaming the cancellations and halted development on increasingly tough fuel economy standards. He even goes so far as to say traditional RWD companies may have to rethink which wheels power the car to meet fuel economy standards: “And I suspect the same thing is going to start to bite the tradition…

In the recent Yahoo news brief on the Avenir, there was a VERY significant line from the article. It is : >>"The Avenir is a “concept car” Buick isn’t manufacturing yet, but the concept alone reflects a major shift in the way Buick’s parent General Motors (GM), and other big automakers, are bringing cars to market."<< You see it?? It's taken years, but I am finally seeing increasing mention of the GM brands as distinct entities again, rather than the media continually defaulting to the 'General Motors' umbrella. Here it is specifically : "...Buick isn’t manufacturing…" and "...Buick’s parent General Motors…" Over much of the last 2 decades…

GM Sees First Monthly Sales Increase in 21 Months For the first time in 21 months, General Motors is on track to see its first monthly sales increase compared to the same time period a year ago, the company said today. While official results will be announced next week, all signs point to a good month, according to Mike DiGiovanni, GM's executive director of global market and industry analysis. A year ago, those brands comprised about 85% of the company's sales. …

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a25915/go-lutz-yourself-the-luxury-problem/ Cadillac was fine in the Thirties, Forties, and Fifties, and then it went downhill, along with Lincoln. That's going to be tough to get back. It can only come from focused and consistent messaging on the excellence of the car, and it's got to be accompanied by dynamite styling. For Cadillac and Lincoln, the priority should be to build the best-looking full-size sedan in the world. If everything you do is the best looking with the best trim, the best leather, and the biggest wheels, the performance just has to be adequate. The car doesn't have to win every high-performance comparison t…

Im curious over what everyone else thinks about this. How soon do you expect Self Driving cars to be popular, how much longer until they are mainstream? I personally don't see them being popular for another 20 years, and not mainstream for…

This is GREAT news! ----------------------------------------- Hillary, Granholm join political push to aid auto industry By Daniel Howes / The Detroit News Daniel Howes Comment on this story Send this story to a friend Get Home Delivery The political free-for-all to "save" Detroit's automakers is under way. Guess who's the first heavy-hitter to take Motown's case to the White House? Not Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Not Sens. Carl Levin or Debbie Stabenow. Not legendary Rep. John Dingell, Big Auto's fiercest defender on Capitol Hill. It's Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who beat Granholm & Co. to the punch l…

September 12, 2008 - 12:01 am ET UPDATED: 9/12/08 1:31 p.m. EDT WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The U.S. government should not back $25 billion or more in loans to help General Motors and the other domestic auto companies, the top Republican on the Senate Banking Committee said on Friday. "I would say no to them," Richard Shelby of Alabama said as Democratic leaders of the House of Representatives and Senate seek to push through a measure in the coming weeks that is necessary to put the credit program in motion. "I don't see this as a national problem," Shelby said in an interview on CNBC television. "I see this as their problem." He also noted the government -- which …

There was much talk earlier this spring about so called “green shoots” in the economy by talking heads trying to coin a phrase that would stick. Unfortunately for us, they had very little evidence to back up such statements. Housing was still tanking, unemployment was still skyrocketing, and GM and Chrysler were swirling down the toilet of bankruptcy. I’ve been rather pessimistic on the economy for a while now. As recently as April I was predicting a long drawn out recovery. I also predicted that a second wave of foreclosures coming from a type of mortgage called Option ARMs would start carpet bombing the economy all over again. Well, unlike a certain ex-President of ou…

I don't really know what to make of this, really. The LT1 in the Camaro got a fair bit more power, but there are a ton of variables involved too. Any theories? Here's the link: http://blog.caranddriver.com/dyno-shows-2016-chevrolet-camaro-ss-out-muscles-the-corvette/

Instead of cancelling all of these zeta cars, what if GM petitioned for a special CAFE exemption in exchange for building them all as E-100 Ethanol only? The cars could be optimised with high compression engines and sold at a healthy premium. Not only would they be clean and powerful, and running on domestic fuel, but they could be ambassadors for the expansion of Ethanol's popularity. The demand and buzz would help to drive the infrastructure for E-85 and ethanol in general forward at an increased pace. The cars would then be able to be offered in E-85 form as soon as certain levels of E-85 availability are reached. The other OEMs could do the same. These cars could be…

Catching the Next Wave: Will High-Tech Muscle Squeeze Sport Compacts? BOB GRITZINGER and RICHARD S. CHANG Published Date: 11/28/05 Sport compact tuners are taking over the world. That’s the unmistakable conclusion you might reach after gazing upon miles of aisles of tricked-out tuner cars, over-the-top parts and wild accessories at the recent Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. There’s one problem: People with ears closest to the thrumming ground think you’re wrong. They think the wave of sport compact tuning that washed over America in the past decade may have crested and is receding from its high water mark. Yes, Honda is back. It is reclaimi…

Highly charged motoring Electric cars, though a welcome development, are neither as useful nor as green as their proponents claim The Economist DESIGNED especially for city and suburban motoring, this handsome automobile is smooth, quiet and easy to drive, and being powered by electricity it can be charged up at home. Tempting? The sales pitch is not for one of the new electric cars from General Motors, Nissan or Renault, but for a 1905 Victoria Phaeton from Studebaker of South Bend, Indiana. Electric cars have come and gone over the years. Usually an oil crisis has given them a boost; this time it is a combination of oil prices, fears about energy security and clima…

Autoblog We've gone from $25 billion to $34 billion and back down to $15 billion. The Detroit 3 CEOs have appeared before Congress twice. Congressional Democrats and the White House have spent the last few days wrangling over the final version of a long-in-the-making Auto Rescue/Bailout Bill and just before it's ready to take center stage on the floor of the House and Senate, this happens. House Republicans today have introduced a new bill in the 11th hour as an alternative to the bill we've all been talking about this past week that was engineered by Congressional Democrats and the Bush administration. The new House bill proposes that instead of handing over loans to…
