Battery-like Device Could Power Cars By Grant Slater, Associated Press posted: 07 September 2007 12:59 pm ET AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Millions of inventions pass quietly through the U.S. patent office each year. Patent No. 7,033,406 did, too, until energy insiders spotted six words in the filing that sounded like a death knell for the internal combustion engine. An Austin-based startup called EEStor promised "technologies for replacement of electrochemical batteries,'' meaning a motorist could plug in a car for five minutes and drive 500 miles roundtrip between Dallas and Houston without gasoline. Diesel cars were becoming Mainstream as it's only slightly more expensive than regular and you get more range from it, underlined since people suffer Range Anxiety, no matter what the "Experts" will tell ya. Diesel was a monkey wrench in the plans since it was a viable alternative that didn't rely on every trick in the book to get good economy (Strip the average hybrid of the cvt's, aerodynamic under panels and body parts and wheels and watch the mileage take a hit, whereas Diesel can be driven with standard and can be swapped into anythin…

In the Midwest and Northeast a shortage of propane gas is impacting millions of homes and businesses in rural areas beyond the reach of utilities. http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/54128520/#54128520 The polar vortex has caused price increases over 46% as a second polar vortex hits the midwest and east coast. This hits home for those that feel Propane as an alternative green fuel is causing prices to equal gas if not go higher. As an alternative green fuel that many had turned to in the 80's and 90's and with a cold winter causing homes to consume more propane than is being manufactured, does it make sense that this fuel still be a green alternative? Does it m…

Tremendous slush money, undoubtedly a significant amount of which will be lost, mismanaged, misappropriated, re-directed or simply never get to where it was earmarked to go. Some of the numbers are too incredible to believe; $75,000,000 for one city's tourism promotion?? My favorite take-away? "Managed demand" for electricity in the region. The current biggest cost to electric vehicles is the battery pack. Current battery technology is all focused-on Lithium-ion cells either in hard case cells like Tesla uses or soft case pouches like GM is using. There are positive and negative aspects to either cell type, yet the one thing all these cells have in common is an Anode and Cathode construction with a separator in between. As a battery is charged you have power move from the cathode to the anode moving through the separator and as the battery discharges, the reverse happens move from the anode side to the cathode side in a very simple explanation. Seems some flattery is in order for Tesla, as Chargepoint showed off at the Elevate Summit conference in LA a new 2 Megawatt charging connector that has similarities to the Tesla Semi charging connector. This new connector utilizes 4 pairs of liquid-cooled 500A DC charging pins. The goal is to have a standardized connector for EV Class 8 trucks and airplanes. This would allow you to have chargers that could handle from 100 to more than 860 volts of power quickly. The benefit of getting this standardized soon is so that all auto makers could plan to support this much higher level of charging even on normal cars. Imagine charging 600 miles of rang in about 5…
