This past Wednesday I opened my mailbox to find a package from my best friend & fellow car enthusiast Jonathan Duffy. This made my day before I even opened the package because Duffy never dissapoints in the gifts department. Last time I got a package from Duffy it was a Haynes Repair Manual for my 1984 Datsun Maxima. He managed to track down a copy in some bookstore in the middle of Arizona. Just south of Cactusville and west of Sand Hill. :P Well this time for a Christmas present he managed to find me a near-mint copy of the classic magazine Motor Age from December 17th 1914. So that makes it exactly 91 years old as of today. The print quality & photos…

Pontiac has long used racing sourced names since the '50s and through today. However, they seem to be abandoning it with the only names left being GTO and Grand Prix, both of which have questionable futures. Of course, Pontiac could return to using them, but could they possibly adopt new ones? Ones Pontiac has used... Grand Am Grand Prix GTO Bonneville Trans Am LeMans Formula GT Ones used by other manufacturers... Monte Carlo Daytona Sebring Monaco Baja IROC Grand Sport Grand National But are there still ones that could be possibly used? I've had no luck in searching... Any suggestions/ideas? All I can think of is PA's own Pocono …

This is a Land Rover Freelander: Want to take a guess on where the main brake lights are? That's right. The brake lights are the two little red portions of the rectangles on the bottom of the rear bumper. The two circular lights were you would expect the brake lights to be are (as far as I know) just there for show. I was behind one of these in traffic the other night and following it was just as bad as if it had no brake lights at all (slight exaggeration but it was still disconcerting having to look at the bumper of a car to see if it was braking). The fact that the third brake light was out and the brake lights barely lit up any brighter when braking didn't h…

You guys are gonna love this one. The most intense, terrifying, visually spectacular, thrilling, amusement ride of a movie. Peter Jackson is the new Steven Spielberg. This is the movie War of the Worlds should have been. Most. Incredible. Film-going. Experience. Ever. Most. Ever. Is that enough hype? Good, cause you still won't believe how good it is.

So I was reading the latest issue of CR and in the auto section they had a little side article about how cars that are recalled does not mean they are unreliable or unsafe. The ONLY reason why they wrote this was because St. Toyota has been falling to the nasty recall bug the last few months. NEVER would they have put that in there and used GM or Ford as an example. P.S. WHERE DO YOU WANT THE WIPER SWITCH -- either its on the stalk and its "too busy" or its not and "hard to find"

I was reminded yesterday of an idea I had a while ago, and thought I'd share. This does go in the far-fetched idea category, but I kinda like it, so here it is. A while back, I was thinking about what Cadillac in particular could do to differentiate itself in the luxury brands, and it occurred to me to start pondering... What is the greatest luxury? Leather? A nice audio system? Powerful engine? Navigation systems and other gadgets? Nah. SERVICE! Think about it - what is more the picture of luxury: a guy with a fridge by his hot tub, or a guy with someone who will go get him a drink or whatever he asks (maid, butler, etc). Service is the greatest …

What does everyone else here think about this? In size, the 300C SRT-8 is closer to the STS-V than CTS-V, and the the Chrysler, the Cadillac is automatic only. Since the STS/STS-V seem to have been losing when compared to the European and Asian nameplates is some of these comparison tests we've seen, how would the Cadillac fair against the Chrysler? The Cadillac has more horsepower, an additional gear in the automatic, and such. So I'm waiting for this sort of comparison test. One of the pitfalls for the STS-V against the 300C SRT-8 would be its umm, rather significantly higher price. I just wonder why no one (to my knowlege, at least) has compared these tw…

Last year I gave some friends of mine a crack pipe for Christmas. Neither of them are what you would call a crack head. The husband has never so much as drank alcohol, his wife was a bit of a pothead when I first met her (I've known her longer than him) but she doesn't do it now. Its in a box somewhere now, I thought they should have put it on the tree as an ornament.

My son received his first credit card offer in the mail this week. Imagine that! His first credit card -- at only age 6! It's from Citicorp -- one of the biggies. Since I moved within the last 8 months & this had our current, correct address - their records must be somewhat accurate. You can't tell me that they do ANY amount of background checking before sending out credit card offers what-so-ever. As a lender, wouldn't you want to, oh I don't know, check out income, credit report, etc before sending out a credit card offer? How can they say (with a straight face) that they are even halfway-serious about credit card security when they ma…

Ferrari 4000 Carbon Fiber notebook June 2, 2005 In terms of high tech brands, Ferrari and Acer make quite a quinella. With gigabytes of data downloaded wirelessly from the car telemetry each race meeting and analysed more meticulously than Michael Jackson’s private life, high performance computers and Formula 1 racing are almost synonymous. Now the last Ferrari Acer computer really didn’t look the part – it was Ferrari Red but didn’t quite capture the essence of F1. the newly announced Ferrari 4000 notebook computer is a different matter though. Like almost everything, it looks much better because you can see the weave of the carbon fibre from which the casing is con…

OK, in the past few months, there's this woman who constantly keeps calling my mobile phone number, and looking for a non-existant person. I've told her tons of times that there's no such person, yet she just says "sorry", hangs up, then a while later (weeks or sometimes hours later) she calls again. I tried everything. Disconnect the call immediately when I see the caller ID, explain there's no such person, the person gave you the wrong number, everything. Nothing seems to stop it. Interiors are one of the bigger determinants of perception. Someone gets in an interior that impresses them and they think they are in a car made to higher standards, or a more expensive car. In GM's case, the interiors are REALLY far behind the competition. It's a glaring ommission that really adds to the perception that there cars are inferior. That being said, the purpose of this thread is not to harp, but to introduce ideas for GM. What are the interior designs you really like from around the world? What interior themes do you feel are appropriate for each of GM's brands. In a perfect world, GM will have interiors that represent what each brand stands for, and the…

The 360 degree LED television November 29, 2005 If you’re looking for a new centrepiece for your new entertaining area, the new 360 degree LED display from Dynascan offers exactly that – quite literally. Taiwanese-based Dynascan has been developing the 360 degree LED display for several years now and it is initially being used as an advertising medium in shopping centres and public areas, with an outdoor version just launched too. The first time you see one of the screens you’ll understand what the fuss is about – the quality, colour, contrast and definition is extraordinary and the screen is absolutely huge – the third generation of the new LED screens is being introd…

Anybody have some pretty memorable kills? I'll share two. The first was about a year or so ago. My dad and I were in the Durango and some punk in a riced out Civic was revving at us laughing. Funny thing is, when the light turned green, my dad brake torqued it a bit and took off, beating the Civic to the next light and the kid didn't look over nor rev. Idiot. Next is my one of two "best" kills in the Camaro (the other was against a mid-90s GT and was probably my best kill). But I raced a dude who was in a Hemi Ram. He said to go at green (we were both cruising Gratiot) and we did, but I got a terrible start. He said he started bad too (he lost nonethe…

I know it's a LONG read but well worth it Fisette had no idea whether he was buying King Tut’s tomb or Al Capone’s vault when he agreed to buy 21 trailers said to be full of Corvettes and Chevrolet muscle cars and parts. Luckily, all of the rumors he had heard whispered around his northeast Wisconsin home turned out to be more true than he ever dreamed. So far, Fisette, a De Pere, Wisconsin, restorer and automotive repair shop proprietor, has opened 17 of the 21 sealed trailers one-by-one and found a Yenko Camaro with 45,000 miles; a pair of low-mileage 1970 LS-6 Chevelles; a 1972 Camaro Z/28; two 1957 Corvettes, one a fuel-injected …

General Motors to Acquire Northwest Airlines

For Release: DECEMBER 9, 2005 Detroit - General Motors has announced today, December 9, that it will acquire Northwest Airlines. GM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner confirmed the purchase plans. Wagoner states: "We are very excited with the prospect of this new alliance." When pressed, Wagoner indicated that it was actually a contractual relationship between Northwest and one of its suppliers that was of particular interest to the Corporation. Although he declined to name the supplier, another GM Executive did. Mark LaNeve, group vice president of GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing indicated that contract with Kimberly-C…

Don't get me wrong. Not that I couldn't see the pics and now I'm posting this. Could the pics be leaked intentionally by GM? From a marketing point of view, it's very clever indeed. Leak the picks, then taking them down immediately, bluffing legal action. Gets people thinking, speculating, etc, etc. Just think of all the hype it's getting now. At least it got everybody and a lot of forum talking and stuff. Also serves the effect of a marketing survey. GM gets the valuable information that people DO want a Camaro. I could be wrong though.

Add on whatever you like... I'll begin here... I don't much care for....Overhaulin doing brand new cars that are already performance oriented. First a Mustang, now a Magnum? If you're gonna do a brand new car, try something that ain't packing much in the balls department....like, I don't know, a Cobalt LS or something.

I'm planning on going there in the fall of 06', experiances anyone? I hear the work load is crazy, but the education is second to none with the entertainment industry in their backyard... levi strauss, Billabong, The Gap and many other brand's are located in and around the greater San Fransisco area... L.A., OC, and Sandiego have a ton of respectable names as well... has anyone in here visited the campus... ? Just curious, take care. Some random sketches.

...and it kicks monumental ass. B) I actually haven't listened to the entire thing yet but the song I'm currently listening to, "Coming Undone", is one of my instant favorites. I got the deluxe album which gives me a bonus CD with extra songs, remixes, and videos. Plus, I get a one-year membership to the Korn BSC fan club. The icing on the cake was getting a free Korn poster of the album art signed by the band. Such a good day. :)

Impartials are for "I don't want it to have rock hard plastic, but..." Yes is "I care more." No is "I care less." I'm at impartial, favoring no.

You guys remember a couple years ago when everybody was calling the Big 3 the Big 2.5 because of DCX? Now GM and Ford are struggling while DCX seems to be pulling the greatest profit. Just thought I would share the irony..

Both cities have metro populations of 4.5 million, and both maps are at the same zoom level. How does this difference happen? Are there not apartment buildings in Detroit?? Detroit Toronto

If there are any Nielsen families or anyone who knows Nielsen families on this site...urge them to watch Reunion on FOX 9pm Thursday (following The O.C.) because this show needs a ratings uptick if it is to avoid cancellation (cancellation has been announced, but might be rescinded if ratings kick up). If anyone has been watching it, you know it's actually a pretty good show that is a casualty of a competitive timeslot and piss-poor marketing/scheduling on FOX's part (pre-empted by Pres. Bush for its third episode, delayed for a month by baseball...no wonder it didn't catch on). So yea...I love this show and don't want it off the air before the murder my…

My State Police PBA card got me out of 2 very serious tickets today: driving on the wrong side of the road and 'failure to follow the direction of a police officer'. >>Insert gigantic WHEW!! here<< Last time I had a road altercation was '97: a woman stopped short in a busy roadway right in front of me, I swerved and would've missed her completely (my left headlight clipped her right taillight), but a dump truck was parked & blocking the shoulder (so much for 'less-than-ridgeline-handling'!). Then, the officer said "I'm not going to give you a ticket" but 2 weeks later one arrived in the mail after an &#…

I actually found this on myspace and laughed my ass off at its absurdity. Especially #8. 1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control. 2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children. 3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children. 4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful. 5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed …

My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now. I love her and I miss her, always.

Do you have any collectibles? Basically anything that could be worth something... especially as the years go bye. Anything from automobiles to scale models of automobiles or even old articles and stuff like that. If so, share it... I happen to have a few things. The first is a relatively good looking copy of a Popular Mechanics magazine from 1954. Again, it's in good condition considering its age. I know I have magazines that are less then 10 years old in worse condition than it... :P I also have another thing that is in damn good condition. It's a Radio Shack remote control Porshe 928. I forgot what year it's from but it hasn't been used... ever. It still has …

What options does "your" (the one you consider mostly yours) vehicle have that you don't want/need? What would you add if you had the chance to? I'll use the Camaro for this... What I don't want/need on it: I really don't need a power driver's seat. Manual seats are particularly easy to use and easier to uninstall from the car. Another thing is a cigarrette lighter, but the ashtray is fine because that's where I store my cell phone. Some things that would've been sweet: AWD for sure. I've been thinking about it lately and damn would it be nice, especially in this snow. Automatic start just to warm the car up w/out going outside…

Happy 19th birthday! :D I think I still have time to drive down to give you your extra special birthday present since I still have 23 hours until it's over. I just hope the GA can make it... that damn ticking, knocking, leaking Quad4. I really hope it can as if I don't give you your gift I might not get a similar one in return. :AH-HA_wink:
