So my dad sent me this email and I am wondering if there is any truth to it. Are these up around Detroit? These are actual billboards in Detroit , Michigan put up by GM. This is definitely cool ! NEW CHEVY BILLBOARDS POSTED AROUND DETROIT I have to say that if these are real billboards, then GM needs to do this across America.

Here's a simple scenario. Let's say you have a few grand saved up and you want to buy a decent beater to keep the miles off of your nice later model car, and to also bear the brunt of going on long commutes to and from class and work, especially in inclement weather. You've found two options that are quite enticing. Here are those two options. Option One: 2005 Saabaru 9-2X AWD; 2.5L Boxer-Four; Five-Speed Stick; 57,000 miles; asking price of $4,000 with room to negotiate. Condition: filthy seats; rusty dent in the rear left side passenger door; horrible curb rash on all four tires, but otherwise sound. Option Two: 2002 Isuzu Axiom 4WD; 3.5L V6; Four-Speed Autotragic Slu…

G. David Felt Alternative Fuel Reporter CNBC.com just released their 10 Ugliest Auto's of all time list. While concepts can WOW people and start a long life money maker like the Mustang. There are others that just leave people flat with the "What Happened?" attitude. Some of these models have been vindicated later down the road and other have just become a history footnote in a book. "You know J.R. is making deals" __ Hank Williams Jr __ 'This Ain't Dallas' ~2 months ago, I was ~110 pounds b/c of not eating or sleeping. Still not sleeping, but starting to eat. With that, I've had a bit more energy (& 'fight') to start working on some projects & found this note written by a friend ~9 years ago: "My friend, if I could give you one gift, I would give you the ability to see yourself as others see you. Then you would realize what a truly special person you are." Made me smile, but my hunch is most of us can't see ourselves the way others seem to.... "Tough times" make that harder. Didn't know where to put this. But went to the autoshow this past weekend. Costs more to get in, less stuff. The entire convention center floor was not even utilized this time around (mfr's not ponying up for space, or the cost was too high). Hardly any concept cars. To put a new Focus ST on a platform does not make it a concept car! I thought I would spout some miscellaneous ramblings about the things I observed. By alphabet...........

Today, I went to York, PA and drove some vehicles. I am in another car buying mood, as some of yous have gleaned from my rambling. So without further ado... 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek manual, blue with tan cloth Drives nice, easy shifting manual, excessive engine noise at highway cruise speed, and road noise on a coarse section of 4-lane blacktop. I kept trying to upshift, but I was already in high gear. Weak stereo. Nice high hip point for excellent vision. $23k. Ride is stiffer than my Patriot if you can believe that. It's well-sprung. Spoke to sales guy about my dislike for CVTs. He says people actually like them, but when pressed, he wouldn't cough up any na…

I had posted earlier this month about the possibility of buying a honda, specifically a 76 CB750. well, last week i found what i had my heart set on to begin with that fit the budget. a guy 45 mins up the road was selling his 2006 triumph bonneville. its got some blemishes, but he has done modifications to it that i was going to do if i bought a new one later on this year. Its been about 8 years since i had ridden a motorcycle, and this is my first street bike, but the short ride up the street and back felt amazing.

So I went over to York, PA today to study some vehicles. The Buick, while cool as heck, is just too expensive at this point in my life. The Fords are very nice, all SE manual hatches ranging from $23-$25k (crappy pinstripes would be off like a prom dress immediately though). The Sonic RS is $21.8k but red is not my color (although it looks very good in red). Please give opinions if you wish. http--,,--//

Yes, tonight sometime soon Top Gear goes off of the airwaves. No, not for good (hopefully), but at some time tonight season 19 does officially end ... maybe. Of course, since Top Gear always leaves you with horrible between-season withdrawls (the long wait for the new season was like going through heroin, cocaine, oxycodone, and smoking joneses all at the same time), you eventually find yourself searching between seasons for something else to watch that will fill the void until the new one debuts. Besides watching the take-it-or-leave-it 'Mericun version that airs on the History Channel, YouTube has begun to offer quite a lot in the way of auto-related programming that is…

For Jeff’s truck, he started out with a moving truck and took 5 feet out of the chassis in front of the rear wheels, and then chopping another 5 feet off the frame behind the rear wheels. The result is pickup truck length but on steroids due to the sheer size of the wheels, tires, chassis, etc. It’s like a real life Tonka truck. 13 Little-Known Punctuation Marks We Should Be Using Adrienne Crezo Because sometimes periods, commas, colons, semi-colons, dashes, hyphens, apostrophes, question marks, exclamation points, quotation marks, brackets, parentheses, braces, and ellipses won't do. 1. Interrobang You probably already know the interrobang, thanks to its excellent moniker and increasing popularity. Though the combination exclamation point and question mark can be replaced by using one of each (You did what!? or You don't read mental_floss?!), it's fun to see the single glyph getting a little more love lately. 2. Percontation Point or Rhetorical Question Mark The backward quest…

I'm here to gather opinions. One day last week, my father took his Ram Express into a local dealer to have the oil changed. To make a longer story extremely brief and short, it's likely been overfilled. The oil is almost two to three quarters of the way up the dipstick and way past "max". There is obvious blue smoke coming from the exhaust and there is black build-up on the chrome exhaust tips. The dealer has been contacted and said that they find this "hard to believe" although the evidence is concrete. What would you demand the dealer do?

Yesterday evening I decided that, given my hatred for my hateful old Astra hatchback has grown to burning new heights, I would pay a visit to Kentucky's largest independent auto auction — the Kentucky Auto Sales Pavilion, or KASP for short — located 30 miles north of me in Lexington and try to take home a beater or project car for less than $1,000 dollars. Here, it was certainly an obtainable concept and less of a challenge based on late Sunday night programs I had watched; numerous Clinton Administration-era vehicles seemed to cross the auction block here rarely ringing up at more than $1,500. It also seemed far less droll than spending countless future weeks of sifting …

The Hyundai Accent is rebadged in the Mexican market as the Dodge Attitude. The current generation and last generation were both rebadged. The older generation at least switched the Hyundai logos for some odd oval ones with the Dodge logo in the center. The new generation just leaves the Hyundai badges in place (both front and back!)... very confusing.

I was chatting with a girl I went to school with on Facebook this morning. Last year, she and her husband were looking to replace their Hyundai Elantra. They had been disappointed with the fuel mileage after being fooled by the numbers on the sticker, so I spoke up and recommended the Chevrolet Sonic. They ended up buying an orange Sonic LTZ 1.4t hatch, with sunroof and a manual, after testing it out for themselves. I was telling her about my desire to research a possible replacement for my Patriot, and I asked her for an update on their Chevy. Her husband believes there is a leak in the heater core... Another sleepless night and I'm paging through a car brochure, this time the full-line prestige 1974 Buick brochure. In the case of the LeSabre and Century models, a 455 CID V8 option was available, interestingly enough with a 2V carburetor (the 4V version was also available, of course). And dual exhausts were available on this 2V option (single exhaust was apparently standard). AFAIK, this was the only year that the Buick 455 came with a 2V carb. Another interesting twist is that the ratings for the 2V version show higher peak torque (at a lower RPM) than any of the 4V versions. Fascinating. I'll try to scan the good stuff and post it here (if anyone's interested, tha…

Some of you may have noticed a series of small changes being made around here. For every one small change you see, there are 10 more that you can't see that only really apply to how the search engines see the site. This is part of a concentrated effort on my part to raise the visibility of CheersandGears.com in the eyes of the search engines. This is a learning process for me, but since diving into this on January 1, we've seen some slight movement in the right direction. I am expending this effort and money for two reasons: First, we've been turned down by some manufacturers for being too small and not having enough unique visitors per month. You may have noticed on the front page a new block with the three main social media networks in the upper right. Can I ask a favor of you for all of those on Facebook and/or Google+? Can you like us on each of the networks you belong to? In the case of facebook, this is different than liking our Facebook page, this is liking the Website on Facebook. So even if you already follow our Facebook page, please use the button on the front page again. The number of "likes" a webpage has on Facebook is factored into our website ratings which I will explain in a separate post. Currently, we have 3 "likes" on facebook. Can we get to 25 "likes" on Facebook this weekend?

Spent several hours this afternoon at the annual B-J event...was a sunny 75 degree day in dusty Scottsdale. Indoors, the new car displays from Ford, Chrysler, and GM were impressive--- lots of new Mustangs in a variety of trim levels--GTs, Shelbys, Boss 302s, and aftermarket tuners versions....really liked the MKZ, first I'd seen in person..nice interior, really interesting exterior design, esp. the rear. Loved the various SRT Mopies (Challenger, Charger, 300, JGC)...saw the new Viper for the first time, very impressed. Hypothetical situation: you travel a good distance 5 days a week by car to and from your job. You are in the market for a new vehicle. Do you buy an inexpensive, economical vehicle since higher mileage at trade-in tends to affect resale value, and you know you'll take a hit, so why not get into a "throw-away" vehicle with a modicum of comfort and fun for the weekends? Or do you go with something bigger, nicer and more expensive BECAUSE you spend so much time in your vehicle, and that time should be spent in something with bells and whistles to make the slog more enjoyable and the weekends even more so? Seeking opinions.

i think this should be easy to answer, and not controversial, but maybe i'll be surprised. if you only want to end up with someone of your own "race" --being marriage or the closest thing to it. is that racism? one could date outside of their "race" but not look for it to last, or want it to. i can share my own view after some answers.

You're probably at Denny's, celebrating your first day of a certain type of discount, but I still wanted to post this birthday wish. Take a DEEEEEEP breath, and blow out those candles, will ya?

Saw this poking around. Here's an amazing list of the 100 vehicles a collector donated for a charity auction to mark the 100th anniversary of the Olds College in Alberta. http://100.oldscollege.ca/sites/default/files/files/Vehicle%20Inventory%20Table%20-%20Oct%2017%20-%2012.pdf A BUNCH of super low mile vehicles; 1940 Ford DeLuxe coupe with 1100 miles! There's a dozen plus I would absolutely like to own.

I was thinking of a scenario with regards to the auto industry and government regulation of it. WHAT IF... everything were the same, as far as world events... the gas crises, safety and emissions regulations all happened exactly as in real life... but CAFE, or any form of it, were never thought of? What would today's vehicle lineups look like? Would market forces have been such that things would look pretty much the same... or would the car world look completely different? If you have a few minutes, let us speculate...

Can you identify what vehicle this gear shift is from? This is not a joke. It's from a friend's Facebook account. He says its not photoshopped other than colour and contrast tweaks (he's a pro photographer). Apparently it's from an abandoned vehicle, all he gave me so far is the location. I asked him for more info, I'll let you know. View full article

You like beer. I know you do. And your minions have been trying to lure me to the dark (and light) side for ages. While free beer at parties hasn't done it, perhaps a tour of Pennsylvania's beer industry has. I gathered a couple friends, we piled into an Infiniti QX56 and headed off to see the best of what Pennsylvania brews. Check out my article on "What Ales Ya" and let your friends know about some of the Keystone State's best breweries. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4401 What are your favorite (non-corporate) beers? Have you ever taken a brewery tour? Have you ever attended a beer tasting?

Keep in mind that my tastes in automotive styling are a bit off-center...I mean, I *liked* the looks of the AMC Pacer for cryin' out loud...but I saw two different vehicles yesterday that struck me as heinously ugly. The first was a current model Nissan Quest. OMG, what a disjointed mishmash of disjointed stylistic crap! The other was a BMW X6. I generally like fastbacks (even on the Honda Crosstour), but the X6 version just looks like excrement to me. Sorry for the crabby old guy bitching session.

As a presidential election year, 2012 was marked by wall-to-wall news coverage of the primary and general elections. On Election Day, the only people who believed that Mitt Romney, taken from a cast of unelectable Republican candidates, was going to win the presidency over Barack Obama was the Romney campaign and Fox News viewers. Mass shootings, at a Batman screening in Aurora, Colorado, in July and then the unfathomable massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December shook our sensibilities and sense of security. The war in Afghanistan, America’s second longest war next to Vietnam, persisted with a planned pullout scheduled i…

I have finally bought myself a decent laptop. After advertising $500 off throughout this holiday season (and receiving some holiday cash), I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Lenovo Y400. For $750, I got a 3rd gen Intel Core i7, 8GB of ram, 1TB of hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. It also has a few luxuries I was looking for such as a backlit keyboard, decent speakers (JBL... though, I've never been impressed with any laptop's built in sound, so we'll see), and a metal cover. Here's to hoping it meets all my needs and wants once it arrives. I can't imagine it wouldn't, besides the twisted functionality of Windows 8, anyways. If you consider that I'…

One of the current models. It was a black R/T, covered in salt from the craptacular streets we have here after our 20" snowfall last week (4" more expected tomorrow). Even got to hear it, as the dude took off from a stop sign. Nice to finally see one in the real world.

I have no motivating holiday spirit this year, 2012 has gone down as a crappy year. But enough about that! Hopefully, December 25th will be everything you all want yours to be. Have a great one, and here's to a bigger, better 2013! *santa's sleigh gif*

This is really cool, or so says I...a 1970 Chevy K20 powered by the 292 inline six! What a torquer. When I was still farming with my dad, we had a '70 K20, but ours had the 350 V8 and auto trans. It had great scoot but I always wanted the big six. It seemed so "trucky".

How can I find out about what's going on in the GM plant designated to build the next Colorado/Canyon? Is it currently in use, or is it closed for the transition to these new trucks? If it is in transition, how can I find out how much progress has been made? I am interested in knowing when these trucks will be shown in US trim, and when they are scheduled to go on sale.

Since my teens, I've been carting around all of the car magazines I've collected over the years. I never refer to them, I only look at them when I move them to a new place, and they aren't "mint" anyway. I think it's time to recycle them.

We were traveling on the interstate over the weekend and a big, ugly-@ssed van came up behind us in a major hurry (we were only doing about 70 at the time, in the right lane). In the mirror, the front end looked like a Honda Element with a serious pituitary gland issue. It then zoomed by in the far left lane and I wasn't able to get a look at any emblems. It *might* have been a Nissan NV, but it was far uglier and more awkward-looking than any NV I'd seen before. P.S. I STILL haven't seen a new Dodge Dart under its own power.
