I arrived at the Indianapolis 500 having been just completed, untested & unknown to the public. Still, I managed to finish a respectable 11th place and later this fact was used in a marketing campaign. The next year we (as a brand) won 25 of the 30 races we entered! Later, one of my derivatives was named after an exotic fictional animal which could be called a Ursidae-Felinus. This car is best remembered in yellow with a very spartan body, monocle windshield & massive four cylinder engine. Also, one of my ancestors ran a solo cross country endurance race known as the Cannonball Run.

This car predates Chevrolet's "Super Sport" moniker of 1961 but it's name is actually an acronym for "Super-Sport, Short Wheelbase" About three dozen were built, many of the lost over the years at the hands of race car drivers, yet more than twice that number exist today. more than half of them being replicas, some of the replicas using original parts. The most famous one of all is owned by someone who also owns a McLaren F1 & Bugatti Veyron. The brilliant engineer who designed it went on to found his OWN car company. The car in question has more LITERS of displacement than number of cylinders!

Let's see how many people get this right. This is the cover for an album from a rather obscure band. This band, who only released two albums throughout their entire career and disbanded shortly after their second album was released, actually managed to make a significant impact on the math-rock and post-rock scene, with artists like Isis and Dinosaur Jr. citing the band as an influence. First, what car did the band use for the album cover? Second, what band was it? Third, what was the title of the album? Fourth, where did the band originate from? :AH-HA_wink: Answers are on the cover itself, but I trust you not to cheat.

This car was supposed to be just a concept. Then it was decided, due to the overwhelming demand that a thousand production copies would be built. In the end, four years later, 8,000 copies came into existence. The doors are very unusual, while they were made unique in order to accommodate an unorthodox chassis, not unlike the 1955 M.B. SL300's, they were, in some ways the exact OPPOSITE of that car's "gull wing doors". Also, it had a SOHC powerplant. 170 H.P. Good Luck.

I would give my right testicle to own this car, yet it was built (at least mechanically) by company I'm not all that smitten with and frankly, I consider to be over rated. The car I'm thinking of is, in my opinion, NEAR perfect as any car can ever hope to get while retaining it's B-pillar. It was born as a ragtop, then a few years later rebodied in Belgium... as far as who commissioned the newer more exotic body, a fire destroyed any records of that info. Here's a short list of features that make it unique: 1. fastback roofline 2. tailfin 3. approx 18 feet long 4. in 1991 a Japanese car collector paid $1.5 million for it 5. elegant wheel skirts…

Who am I? I'm a two-seater, quite sporty if I might add... (for the era) You could either buy me assembled from the factory or in KIT form. In this instance, a series of boxes would arrive at your doorstep in exact order, 14 packages total, when the first was paid for, the next would be sent, with the buildup theoretically done concurrently as the packages arrived, the assembly being feasible for the average man. And, my "windshield" was bolted to the steering column.

I'm thinking of three cars, all three by the same manufacturer... 1.) this one off... built for the president of the company was restyled instead of replaced due to a temp. halt in passenger car production. It had a famous "nickname", The B _ _ _ _ B _ _ _ _ _ 2.) Two decades after the B.B. was built as a one-off & several years after passenger car production resumed a car was built, also a one-off custom, it could be called a concept car/design study of sorts, that replaced the now dated twice styled B.B. This car has those RARE proportions that Balthazar finds irresistible, one could describe the car, in profile, as LONG hood, LONGER…

Then again, with this crew, it might not be much of a head-scratcher. I'm looking at a sales brochure for the Lincoln Continental Mark IV and it says the standard (and only available) engine is a 430 CID, OHV V8 with a 4V carb. C'mon now, everybody knows the Mark IV came with the 460 CID variant of the Ford's admittedly excellent "385-series" V8...yet the brochure I'm looking at does NOT have a misprint when it comes to the engine displacement. How can this be?

Nissan lunched the Infiniti brand in the late 1980s with commercials on TV & ads in magazines that did not show any images of their car. No photograph or artwork of their product was used to tell you what the vehicles actually looked like. This was not as unique, innovative as many think. There was a luxury car of the highest caliber sold at one point with ads in magazines that showed a man lounging around in a "study" the size of a small auditorium, his fireplace the size of a garage door... The copy simply read: "He drives a __________" And while I'm sure that a male chauvinist pig or two certainly bought one of these cars, there was al…

This car was built in very small numbers due to the outbreak of a world war... it's a smaller cousin to a much more luxurious and sporty car that was V8 powered and considered in it's day the ultimate car for the Autobahn, perhaps the first ultimate, mass produced "performance sedan". The car in question was smaller, had a one piece windshield and a horizontally opposed, air cooled, flat four-cylinder motor instead of the V8, and it also had one less headlight than the aforementioned luxury sports-sedan. Name the cars I'm eluding to.

This is a bit open-ended, as I do not have a list of answers at hand; thought those interested might work thru it. I would be interested to learn Year/Model of U.S. cars that 'upped' the speedo maximum. IE: what was the first factory speedo to read to : 100 MPH : 120 MPH : 140 MPH : 150 MPH : 160 MPH : 180 MPH : 200 MPH : 100 might be tough- we might be going back pretty far. If there are 'interum' numbers (EX: 130 MPH), and anyone who cares to toss in foreign speedos, go ahead. I do have the 200 MPH answer, I believe- it was surprising enough to me to inspire this topic. We can deal with production vs. 'specials' as they arise. Have at it!

THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR T.W.T.T. #59. Despite my best efforts the last T.W. question will NOT be posted by the end of 2006. I spent about 6 hours today doing research and writting up some of the several dozen questions I have planned. At this point I'm off to a new years party and I'll try to post the finalk thread late tomorrow night. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

OK, so I didn't get around to making another full "Devil's in the Details". That'll come, eh, probably later this week. For now, well I just found one of the weirdest concepts I've ever seen. Here it is, sans badges. Who knows what this is?

So, I decided to put one of these together, I think it's been a while. Basically, I cut pieces out of pictures I found on the 'net. See if you can identify them... I've included 2 interior shots and an engine shot this time too, to mix it up. Most of these are probably not that hard. :AH-HA_wink: All Answered! 1. Answered: Merkur XR4Ti 2. Who produces the most midsize rwd sedans? You may be surprised. Rank by parent company, and ignore rebadging (e.g. Chevrolet Omega, Chevrolet Lumina). For midsize count any current-production rwd 4-door sedan between 4.69 and under 4.99 m. There are roughly twenty, if you can find them all. Bonus points if you can list all the different names a single model is sold under.
