It has been no secret that Ford is planning to bring back the Ranger and Bronco - thank you UAW. But Ford has been mum on it, saying no comment and the like when asked about it. But they have finally come clean today. During their press conference this morning at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford announced that the Ranger and Bronco will be coming. “We’ve heard our customers loud and clear. They want a new generation of vehicles that are incredibly capable yet fun to drive. Ranger is for truck buyers who want an affordable, functional, rugged and maneuverable pickup that’s Built Ford Tough. Bronco will be a no-compromise midsize 4x4 utility for thrill seekers who want to v…

Previous Page Next Page At the 2018 North American International Auto Show today, Nissan unveiled the Nissan Xmotion concept. This concept is a preview of Nissan's styling direction and in this specific case a possible preview of the next version of the Nissan Rogue. The strong styling takes some existing Nissan signature design elements and brings them to the extreme. The Xmotion features giant boomerang style headlamps and Nissan's deep Vmotion grille. The interior features exotic seats that are shaped like ships that float in the water. Nissan even included a floor carpet pattern that resembles the waves of the ocean. The center co…

Toyota released all the details today on the coming 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We showed you some preview pictures of the 2016 Tacoma a few days ago, and we get the specs. Toyota's rebuilt Tacoma appears to be more of a strong refresh rather than the "all-new" that Toyota claims. The frame has been reinforced with high strength steel, body panels are now formed with a hot stamping method that increases strength while decreasing weight, and the suspension has been re-tuned for better on-road comfort while increasing off-road abilities. The 2.7 liter 4-cylinder carries over, but there is a new 3.5 liter, Atkinson cycle V6 that has both direct-injection and port injection. Both e…

Back in August, we reported that Volkswagen was planning to send the Passat GT concept shown at the 2016 LA Auto Show into production. The concept was Volkswagen's attempt at making the Passat become a bit more exciting with numerous cosmetic changes, a VR6 engine, and slight tweaks to the suspension. Next week at the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen will show off the production model. The exterior of the Passat GT matches up with the concept as there are a blacked-out honeycomb grille, red accent striping, blacked-out trim, 19-inch wheels, and a black decklid spoiler. Only four colors will be available on the GT; Pure White, Reflex Silver, Platinum Grey, and Deep Black.…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 9, 2012 When Acura pulled the cover off the NSX Concept today at the North American International Auto Show, the crowd of journalists and invited guests went crazy with appluase, whistling, and cheers.Their dreams of the Acura mid-engined supercar making a comeback was coming true. The NSX concept follows in the footsteps of the NSX by using a high-tech platform made from the latest lightweight materials to shed excess weight. Power will come from V6 engine to the back wheels, like the original. But unlike the original, the V6 will be helped by two electric motors, mounted in each rear wheel. The electric mot…

Preview: Mitsubishi Prototype X We were pretty excited about the new Lancer when we caught a glimpse of it earlier this week. The economy sedan should be a big seller for the company, but the enthusiast draw to the Lancer line is the high-performance Lancer Evolution, or Evo. Today Mitsubishi revealed that along with displaying the new Lancer at the Detroit auto show next month, it will also show a “Prototype X” concept that will serve as the basis for the next Evo. I really can't stand the new Eclipse. The design is all over the place and the rear just looks rediculous (including the clear plastic and chrome spoiler) but cut the roof off the damn thing and there you have the largest, most dis-porportionate, ugliest rear-end design ever on a car (my opinion). It looks like the front end of this car should be pointing up with all that weight in the rear. Ugh. This is a car company I wouldn't have missed if they retreated from the US market last year.

We're just a couple weeks away from the Detroit Auto Show and Kia has given us a glimpse of what they'll be showing. Meet the the GT4 Stinger Concept, a 2+2 sports car. From what we can tell from this teaser shot, the concept will feature the automaker's signature grill and a set of vertical LED headlamps along either side. There is also a cooling vents for the brakes and carbon fiber front splitter. More intriguing is what's under the hood - a turbocharged 2.0L (we're thinking four-cylinder) that makes 315 horsepower and sends it to the rear wheels. We'll have more information on the GT4 Stinger when it debuts at the Detroit Auto Show on January 13th. Source: Kia Wi…

As a preview to the unveiling of the 2016 Nissan Titan on January 12th, Nissan released teaser images and video of the upcoming redesign of its full size truck. Sales of the Nissan Titan are typically in last place behind the Detroit-3 and the Toyota Tundra. Nissan is hoping to change that with the 2016 Titan. While still camouflaged in these pictures, we get a better view of the revised truck. In the video, we can see the new truck being put through various performance tests and if you look closely, you can get a hint of the new interior as well. Powertrains for the 2016 Titan will range from the familiar 317 horsepower 5.6 liter V8 to a new 5.0 liter Cummins turb…

Nissan says the Vmotion 2.0 concept revealed today at the Detroit Auto Show previews the future of their sedan designs. We hope so since the Maxima is the only good looking model out of their current sedan crop. The V-Motion grille that we have grown accustomed to on a number of Nissan models has been enlarged to up most of the space on the front end. There are deeply recessed bumper vents and steeply raked headlights on either side. Around the side, sharp character lines, deep cuts in the doors, and the floating roof that Nissan has been using on some of their vehicles. The concept rides on an 112.2-inch wheelbase (2.9-inches longer than the wheelbase on the A…

I'd say Geely is at about 1984 with this interior. Looks like if you brushed your knuckles across the dashboard, you'd lose a few layers of skin. They did a nice job matching the color on the passenger-side airbag cover. And to think this is the best car they can find to show at Detroit. Can't wait for this ass-ault on our auto market. Disposable cars will be back in style. Full Geely story at Det-News http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...396/1148/AUTO01

After three years and about 17 different concept variations (at least that what it feels like), Acura has finally revealed the 2016 NSX. The NSX is slightly larger than the original concept shown - about 3 inches longer and 0.6 inches higher, but retains the shape with sharp lines, a mean front snout, and sharp looking wheels. The body is comprised by a number of materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, Inside is a minimalistic approach with a small number of controls for the infotainment and climate control. Power comes from a hybrid layout which is made up of a new twin-turbo V6 and three electric motors. Power output is estimated to be 550-plus. A new nine-speed dua…

Looking like a cross between a Kia Soul and a Range Rover or Volvo XC90, Kia released a teaser for a surprise concept they will be showing next week at the Detroit Auto Show. This could signal Kia's return to the large SUV segment after the less than stellar sales of the 2009 - 2011 Kia Borrego. Kia says the concept will feature state of the art health and wellness technology and a new direction for Kia's design language. Little else has been released at this time. The Kia SUV concept will be officially unveiled at 2:15pm eastern time on January 11th. Stay tuned to CheersandGears.com for all of your 2016 Detroit Auto Show coverage View full article

The Dodge Viper thing was atrocious. Can't wait until the Camaro debuts. I don't care if the surprise was ruined (although poor bob probably does.)

We were a bit worried about Volkswagen's showing at Detroit was only going to be the long-wheelbase Tiguan. But there is another vehicle that will be shown alongside. Volkswagen has released some teaser shots of the next I.D. concept and it looks like it will be a van - something akin to the Microbus judging from one of the pictures. The concept will be using Volkswagen's upcoming MEB (Modular Electric Drive) and use two electric motors - one up front and another in the back. This will provide all-wheel drive. This concept will also feature self-driving technology where a driver can press a button and steering wheel will retract. Various sensors, cameras, and las…

As we accurately judged a few weeks back, Volkswagen's concept for the Detroit Auto Show is another Microbus. But don't call it that, instead call it the I.D. Buzz. Volkswagen is clear in their press release that the I.D. Buzz "is not a retro design on 22-inch wheels." We're not fully sure on that because it looks like Microbus with the large Volkswagen emblem up front, two-tone paint, and a large area of glass. The only point you can give Volkswagen about it not being a 'retro design' is the front end not being so blunt. The interior can seat up to eight people and there are some nice details such as a wooden floor and LED ambient lighting. Technology features includ…

Usually, the announcement of a Chinese vehicle debuting an auto show doesn't make our radar. But this one is a bit different. The Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) will be bringing three vehicles to the Detroit Auto Show, one of them will be a world premiere. This isn't GAC's first time in Detroit. A couple years back, the company showed off several vehicles. The world premiere is the GAC Motor GS4, a "high-performance compact sport-utility vehicle". We're a bit dubious on the 'high-performance' part as this vehicle will come with either a 1.3L or 1.5L engines, both turbocharged. However, the GS4's looks seem to fit the 'high-performance' concept with a lowered roofline, …

We are a little more than a month away from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but much like the Christmas music in stores the day after Halloween, companies like to tease us for a month or two ahead of time. One of the earliest teasers (that wasn't a full reveal like the Mercedes GLE) is the next generation Toyota Tacoma. So far, all we get to see is the tailgate of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma that will be revealed in about a month. We're expecting styling to borrow heavily from its big brother, the Toyota Tundra. The Tacoma has been the best selling small truck for a number of years now as the Detroit three ceded the segment to the Japanese. However, To…

It also corners with the grip of a hungry Kodiak bear – delivering more than 1g of lateral acceleration – and stops with exceptional immediacy. Yet for all its astounding performance attributes, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 has a refined driving experience …

Infiniti finally pulled the sheet off of the Q60 Concept today at the Detroit Auto Show, allowing us a full view of all sides and inside. The low slung coupe is the future design and engineering direction for Infiniti. The Q60 will be put into production in a few years time and will be the debut model for a new family of turbo-charged, direct injected engines. We've heard that both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines will be available but very little else was offered from a technical level. The interior has hand stitched leather with carbon fiber accents and is surprisingly roomy for a 2 by 2 coupe. The exterior features LED lighting and light piping, even the badge …

Previous Page Next Page At North American international auto Show in Detroit today, Audi unveialed the Audi Q8 Concept, Audi's attempt at making a full size crossover into coupe shape. By taking the 8 moniker like the A8, the Q8 once in production form, will stand at the top of the Audi crossover lineup. Up front, a very large honeycomb grille in an octagon shape makes the trademark Audi look even bolder. Narrow headlights and tail lights using laser technology give the Q8 a serious look. Powering the Q8 is Audi's plug-in hybrid system using a 333hp / 368 lb-ft 3.0 liter TFSI engine coupled to an electric motor capable of 243…

This is the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept and the automaker says it previews "a future production sports sedan," most likely the next Maxima. The Sport Sedan Concept is the third concept to show what Nissan has in mind for the designs in the future; the first two being the Resonance crossover concept and Friend-Me concept. Like the first two concepts, the Sport Sedan features what Nissan calls the V-motion grille, a large piece chrome shaped like a V. On either side of the grille are boomerang-shaped headlights. The Sport Sedan also features a floating roof, twenty-one inch alloy wheels, and number of curves flowing along the body. Powering the Sport Sedan Concept is a 3.…

For release: Dec. 20, 2007, 12:01 a.m. EST CORVETTE ZR1: IT’S GOOD TO BE THE KING DETROIT – Few new cars have ever caused the stir that whipped up around the 1990 Corvette ZR-1. It started with fuzzy spy photos and Detroit gossip about a high-powered, “King of the Hill” model. Chevrolet was coy, neither confirming nor denying the grist of the rumor mill. Rumor became fact at the 1989 Geneva Auto Show, when the ZR-1 officially debuted. It was a time when performance cars were only beginning to regain some of the underhood strength enjoyed during the heyday of the muscle car, and the ZR-1’s 375-horespower (280 kW) LT5 V-8 engine – with its DOHC configuration and four-…

Preview: HUMMER H3 Open Top Concept DETROIT – The 2007 HUMMER H3 has an available oversized power sunroof for an open-air feel, but the H3 Open Top concept goes a step further with ASC’s unique sliding fabric “Infinivu” roof system. The expanded opening provides a nostalgic, safari-style experience in a thoroughly modern midsize SUV. The look and fun factor are classic, but the ease of operation, durability and weather resistance are strictly contemporary. Black chrome finish on the numerous H3 Chrome Appearance Package items available from HUMMER Accessories offsets the sparkling silver paint. Inside, the primary upholstery material is Townsend lambskin leather with Ga…

Mercedes-Benz has decided their largest SUV, the GLS-Class isn't fancy enough. That's why at the Detroit Auto Show next week, the German automaker will introduce the 2018 GLS Grand Edition. Most of the changes for the Grand Edition are inside with Porcelain and Espresso Brown Nappa leather on the seats and dash, open-pore wood trim, velour floor mats, and ambient lighting. Outside, the GLS Grand Edition comes with LED headlights, 'Grand Edition' badging and different wheels - 20-inches for the GLS 450 and 21-inches for the GLS 550. Mercedes is keeping mum on the pricing for the Grand Edition models, but said it will arrive at dealers towards the middle of this yea…

Infiniti shared a full picture of the Q60 Concept due to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show next week. Shown here in coupe form, the Q60 concept takes the Q60 (née G37 coupe) down a more aggressive looking route. While this is labeled a concept, one look at the sister car Q50 sedan will tell you that there is no reason Infiniti would need to vary the look much once in production. If you imagine this car with production mirrors, wheels, and a simpler lower air intake area, you'll probably be pretty close to the real thing. Under the hood, expect the standard compliment of a 3.7 liter V6 with output in the 330 horsepower range and a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-whee…

The long road to Volkswagen's crossover for the U.S. has taken another turn with the introduction of the Cross Coupe GTE Concept. The concept falls in between the seven-seat CrossBlue concept shown at Detroit last year and the and the CrossBlue Coupe shown at Shanghai. The concept carries such details as a two-bar grille, narrow headlights, and flared-wheel arches. As a whole, the concept reminds us of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially in the back. The interior is basically the same as the CrossBlue concept with a 12.3-inch screen for the cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Power will come from a plug-in hybrid powertrain which pairs a 3.6L V6 and two electri…

Finally made it up there today, the last day opened. Now I have been at every show since the late '90s except two, one being last year because I sprang my ankle the day before we were going to go. I gotta say the econonmy's toll really showed at this years show. Of course we all heard about Porshe, Mitsu, and Nissan/Infinite not making it to the show but Wow, never thought I'd see exibits upstairs that I was used to seeing downstairs. Also in the main lobby before walking into the show there used to be cell companies and radio stations lined up in the area's were you entered into the main show form the lobby. Those area's were blank. And when one went down stairs to were …

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...E/60113003/1057 BEST IN SHOW: Chevrolet Camaro Concept Only twice in AutoWeek’s long and illustrious tradition of awarding favorite auto show models with big, fat, shiny trophies has a car won by unanimous vote. The first? That would be the Porsche Boxster concept back in 1993, which puts this Chevrolet Camaro in pretty darn good company. We certainly aren’t alone in our admiration. At one point during the press preview, it looked as though the number of top-tier designers from competing automakers outnumbered members of the media swarming about the car. That had to have the bow-tie brass smiling. And if the 400-hp Corvette L…

Previous Page Next Page Coming for Spring 2017, Audi took the covers off the updated SQ5 for the 2018 model year. The primary changes are a more powerful 3.0T engine producing 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, enabling the SQ5 to get to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Further enhancing the driving feel is a new lighter weight suspension featuring a 5-link setup in the front. Available for the first time is a height adjustable air suspension allowing the driver to select a lower mode for sporty driving or a raised mode when additional ground clearance is needed. 2018 SQ5 models will also get an available dynamic steering setup t…

Detroit 2010: a review The big story at this year's Detroit show is without doubt the staggering turnaround of Ford. The new Focus was the most significant launch of the show, and the new Fiesta has just gone on sale in the US. In fact, it's too early for either of these cars to show up in the company's American results - the Focus doesn't even hit showrooms for another year. But Ford had an obvious spring in its step at the show. It's simply a better-run, better-focused company than it has been in living memory. It has the same mission all round the world, and is converging the vehicles rather than making a rag-bag of different ones for different regions of the planet…

Volkswagen has a double feature for next week's Detroit Auto Show. One will be a production model, while the other one is a concept. First up is the production model which is the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R for North American. Like its European counterpart, the Golf R will come with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. New for the North American version is the choice between a six-speed manual or DSG transmission. Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system will get all of that power to the wheels. 0-60 MPH is quoted at 4.9 seconds for the DSG and 5.3 seconds for the manual. Other changes for the 2015 Golf R will include a stabi…

Last June, we reported on Volvo's intention to bring over a long-wheelbase version of the S60. This marked an important milestone for the brand as this would be their first vehicle that would exported from China. Detroit saw the Swedish automaker introduce the long-wheelbase S60, but under a new trim. Meet the 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription. Compared to the standard S60, the Inscription gets an additional 3.4 inches between the B and C-pillars (182.5 for the standard S60 vs. 185.9 for the S60 Inscription). This is to improve rear-legroom which in the standard S60 is quite tight. The Inscription also gets nicer wood trim, larger sunroof, and unique 19-inch wheels that are exc…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 5, 2013 Infiniti has teased their showing for the Detroit Auto Show. The Q50 Eau Rouge is a vision of what a high-performance Q50 could look like. The 'Eau Rouge' comes from the famous early corner at Spa-Francorchamps, the race track where the Belgium's Formula One Grand Prix. Infiniti has very close ties to the Red Bull Formula One team and has been expanding their partnership by bringing in Sebastian Vettel as the Director of Performance. The image released by Infiniti show a front air dam and side mirrors crafted from carbon fiber, and what look to be openings in the hood. "Performance is a key pillar of I…

Mini will be using next week's Detroit Auto Show to debut refreshed versions of the Cooper Hardtop and Convertible models. At first glance, the changes don't seem apparent as the new models look like the current ones. But you'll need to get a bit closer to see the changes. Up front, the 2019 Coopers feature a new headlight design and updated logo. Around back, Mini has fitted a new set of LED taillights with a Union Jack pattern. The interior sees some minor changes with Bluetooth and a 6.5-inch infotainment screen becoming standard. An 8.8-inch system with navigation is available as an option. The U.S. will miss out on one change that Mini is making for the Coope…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 4, 2013 When Chevrolet introduced the Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show last year, we knew that the madness was only beginning. Before long, new versions of the Z06 and ZR1 would be making their way out. Well General Motors has announced that the 2015 Corvette Z06 would be debuting at Detroit Auto Show in January. We can gleam some information from the teaser shot that GM has released such as lightweight-looking alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport Cup and a carbon-fiber side skirt. On the spectrum of concept vehicles, we have models that are wildly out there and have no chance of going into production. Then we have models that are thinly disguised production vehicles. The Infiniti QX50 Concept falls into the latter. An evolution of the QX Inspiration concept, the QX50 doesn't really differ a lot in terms of exterior design. The front end is similar to the Q60 Coupe with a large grille and chiseled bumper. The side profile shows a bit of sculpting and a creasing running underneath the window. The interior looks mostly production ready with high-quality leather, wood trim, and what looks to be a new infotainment system. The QX5…

It's late and I'm tired so I'm going to make this breif.... Although I saw pretty much everything I'm going to focus on the big 3 Dodge (Chrysler) - SRT vehicles looked pretty cool on the exteriors. Dodges interiors overall (all vehicles), to bluntly put it, sucked. Not at all impressed with the company that turned around the big 3 in design in the mid 90's when it comes to this area. Very cheap/cheesy looking interiors, interior design and dashboards. Dodge Caliber was a disaster IMO inside and out. Amazed they could bring something like this out to production (said the same thing with the Charger last year). Dodge is capible of a lot better with their vehicles. Challe…

After weeks of teasing us, Infiniti has finally spilled the details on the Q Inspiration Concept today at the Detroit Auto Show. The best way we can describe the Q Inspiration is the Japanese automaker's take on the Porsche Panamera. It features the classic proportions of a coupe with a long front end, sloping roofline, and short rear deck. The front is quite busy with a "double-arch" grille finished in white. Move inside to see the very minimalist and clean interior layout. The seats look quite futuristic with white leather upholstery and orange accents. At first, we thought the Q Inspiration would feature an electric powertrain of some kind, due t…

Almost a year after MINI revealed the new Cooper Hardtop, the automaker announced the hotted-up John Cooper Works model that will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. The new John Cooper Works model comes equipped with a tuned 2.0L TwinPower turbo four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. You can pair this with either a six-speed manual or automatic. MINI quotes 0-60 MPH times of 6.1 seconds for the manual or 5.9 seconds for the automatic. A sports suspension will be standard on the John Cooper Works to provide excellent handling. However if you value your spine, you'll be happy to hear that you'll be able to swap the standard suspension at n…

Technology features inclu…
