I think it'd be great if Cheers & Gears featured an vehicle timeline... Core features: Divided by GM division (Chevy, Saab, Buick, etc...) Show month each vehicle is set to go on sale (start of timeline bar) Show end of production - actual or estimated future end (end of timeline bar) Additional feature ideas: include other manufacturers include concept vehicles include trim levels or major options (engines, etc) build backward through time to create a more complete timeline, including out of business manufacturers if it needs to be kept simpler, have the timeline only look at the future, and only go so far into the future (5-10 yrs). Bars for production en…

I promise, this will be the last spamming from me posting of all that spy shot craps. Yet another old news I digged from the net. This one is from Audi. The 2011 A7. http://blog.pixnet.net/jackieyang/post/9376358 The site is the Chinese site, but the article is in English so you can read about it. I just wanted to share them. I thought these were just too good the news to be just posted on my site only. Though they are old. I will be keep on hunting for the spy shots, but unless I get a go to post them here, this will be the last time I flood this site with all these pointless spy shot junks. Enjoy.

As you made have noticed on front page, Cheers & Gears now has a blog section (hooray!). Drew and I have posting stuff in there to get it somewhat going. I'm looking for some feedback and ideas with the blog I'm working on, The Mudpit. I have started two ongoing series on the blog. The first is called The Test Diaries which deals with the vehicles I get in for review. Its a place where I can go a little bit more in depth about the vehicles, give some thoughts and observations, and give a behind the scenes look in how a review gets done. The other series is tentatively called Random Links. It will appear every Sunday morning and provide a wide selection of stories, …

As some of you may have noticed, we've gone ahead and split the Asian Marques Forum into five seperate categories Toyota Motor Corporation will obviously contain all Toyota news, including Lexus, Scion, Daihatsu, Hino, etc. Honda Motor Company now has all Honda/Acura news. February 2, 2013 – State of the Site I plan to do these monthly to give you an idea of what is going on around here regarding site operations. Please bear with me as I work on the format and structure of these posts each month. As always, suggestions, thoughts, and questions are welcomed and requested. I plan to publish these reports on the 1st Saturday of each month. Operations 1. Server – We changed servers on January 1st of this year. The new server is half the cost for more processor and ram with substantially faster storage. While it has been perfectly reliable, I do feel there are additional performance gains to be made. I chose The Automotive Suppliers section, but I don't think it really belongs in the Supplier section or even in The Lounge since it is just industry related news. IT'S TIME TO STOP AMERICA'S ADDICTION TO FOREIGN OIL America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil. On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. Video article continues at link... http://www.pickensplan.com/

One thing that would really make C&G more efficient and user-friendly is the scroll-mouse-over-topic-and-read-the-first-few-lines-of-a-post function. Is that possible with MKPortal? C&G's by far the most time consuming forum to get through.

Well, it seems that I was deleted from the forums. When I came to log in just a few minutes ago, it said the forums "couldn't find anyone with my log-in details." So I tried logging in once more, and still the same screen. So then I was like, well, I bet if I re-register my screen name, password, and e-mail, I'll get another error message saying all of those details have already been taken. So I did just that, re-registered all of my information. Then I get a screen saying that my validation e-mail has been sent. All of this happening after I just got over 5,000 posts.

Mazda & Honda Suspend Orders For US William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 28, 2011 Mazda and Honda are suspending orders for vehicles built in Japan due to the earthquake and inventory problems. Mazda said it's shutting down it's plants in Hiroshima and Hofu. The plants which build the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda5, MX-5 / Miata, RX-8, CX7 and CX9 were running last week for three days using parts in its inventory. However, Mazda will be idling plants starting this week due to part shortages. Mazda's U.S.spokesman Jay Amestoy said the decision to idle plants will only effect shipments of vehicles for May 2011. Amestoy also said it was un…

OK I started noticing that I was getting ads on every page, so I knew it was time to renew my "premium subscriber" status here at C&G. I inquired about it but didn't hear anything. Then I got an email showing an automatic payment being taken out of my credit card, supposedly renewing my account. But I've still got ads everywhere, and it still says "members" at my avatar, not "premium subscriber" or whatever it should say. Posting this here to try to find out what is happening. Thanks. I've lost my privileges and they have not been restored after the automatic payment. Anyone else in the same boat?

Why Audi, BMW and Mercedes will dominate China's luxury market Automotive News Europe -- October 18, 2010 06:01 CET SHANGHAI -- While dozens of mass-market brands brawl to gain share in China's automotive market, the luxury segment is dominated by just three. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz control nearly 76 percent of China's luxury car sales, and their market share over the next few years may even grow. Why? The German brands enjoy two huge advantages: lower prices and products that have been customized to satisfy Chinese tastes. First, the German automakers have stretched the wheelbase of their products to satisfy wealthy Chinese customers who prefer to sit in the sp…

Small cars are back in action Japanese models to hit the market starting in March February 16, 2006 BY MATT NAUMAN KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS Forget Pinto, Vega and Gremlin. Get ready to learn Yaris, Fit and Versa. Not since the oil tensions of the 1970s have subcompact cars gotten such attention. The three big Japanese automakers will introduce new small cars this year, and the best-selling model, the Chevrolet Aveo, gets a redesign soon. Researcher J.D. Power and Associates expects sales of the smallest, cheapest cars to zoom 94% from 2005 to 2010 as new vehicles hit the market. Is the Cheers and Gears site or its hosting company being "protected" by OpenDNS? I ask because I keep getting a "Phishing Site Blocked" message... then a few minutes later, it clears. Its happening when I use TW Cable... but I doubt they are providing it, to the best of my knowledge. In fact, I don't use their DNS... I use my own DNS server I built myself at a remote co-location site. I also doubt that the local antivirus and tools or whatever is doing the blocking... I work in this industry... not a novice. Anyway, I thought I'd bring it up to see if anyone else is having this problem. I suspect that perhaps one of the ads is triggering this blockage... but it would…

Thanks to clever programming talent on loan from God, our webmaster Frank Donato (Z28luvr) put together this great new scrolling textbar feature in order for us to communicate the latest breaking news regarding the forum and GM. Might it be possible to have a section dedicated to the charts and information related to quality control databases and manufacturer recall tallies? I don't mean to suggest that it be put together as a kind of score-board, as I just know people are likely to reference the content with just that in mind; rather, I figured it would simply make things a tad easier w…

I've noticed some oddness over the last week, when typing into a form for a post, as I am doing right now, occasionally the cursor suddenly backspaces to the beginning of the word I'm typing--or back several words. I've seen this behaviour on these forums and another that is also using IP.Board (2.3.1 and 2.3.6), on multiple computers---a Win XP machine using Chrome, a Vista machine w/ both Chrome and Firefox 3.5. Anyone seen anything like this? It can be very annoying when it happens 5-6 times in typing a post, as it did typing this one.

William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2011 Volkswagen has been making passes at Alfa Romeo, trying to get the Italian automaker to leave it's parent company Fiat and join the Volkswagen family. This week, a rumor has come around saying Porsche could provide assistance to Alfa if they moved to the Volkswagen family. There is a major outage at a data center in Northern Virginia due to a cooling system issue. This data center stores most of the images and some of the code for the site. I have been informed that the restoration of that data center could last as long as 4 p.m. on May 31st. The site will appear in a broken state until the data center is back online. Thank you for your patience. Click here if you'd like to follow the restoration status.

With the changing of the guard, so to speak, YellowJacket and myself, who are now in charge of the design competition section of C&G have some changes we'd like to announce. Change #1 Fo the time being we are going to have the sketch and chopping competitions linked togther. By this we mean that they will share a common objective, as opposed to different ones. For example: Both compeitions will focus on designing a new car for flagship model for Buick. This way things will, ideally be more simple for us, and give designers who want to participate but aren't choppers, the ability to sketch their design out, and vise versa. This will begin with the next competitio…

2011 MAHINDRA APPALACHIAN SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2009MARCH 12TH, 2009 By Mark Kleis Proving to be the longest lasting, most unpredictable rumor in the auto industry – handily ousting the Amarok flip-flop for top honors – Mahindra has yet again hit a major snag in its seemingly doomed quest to come to the U.S. It was only one week ago that Leftlane reported on the passing of the EPA emissions testing for the Mahindra truck, seemingly clearing the way for the small diesel-powered pickup to come stateside. But what we (and apparently all but a single Indian media outlet – Frontier India) missed was a small disclaimer on Mahindra’s media site that said the agreement between Mahi…

Ever since C&G had its oil changed et al., I've noticed something about the post icons next to thread titles. The icons don't show which threads I've posted in anymore like they did before the maintenance (the folders are just solid, with no "arrow" in them). Will this be remedied, or will I just have to remember which threads I'm subscribed to?

Mitsubishi Motors to cut production as sales slow November 27, 2008 Link to article MITSUBISHI Motors today said it would lay off one-third of its temporary workers in Japan as sagging sales led it to reduce production. Japan's fourth-biggest carmaker said it would not renew contracts with the 1100 workers when those employment agreements expired at the end of next March. “We are adjusting production in order to reduce inventory stockpiles in view of the recent economic and market conditions,” a company statement said. In addition to cutting production by 80,000 vehicles, which Mitsubishi said it would do in October, the company today said output would be furt…

Often, I find myself trying to dig up an image gallery for a vehicle that was announced several months ago. Digging through search pages and whatnot just to find a decent picture of the interior (because, for some reason, decent pictures of GM vehicles are hard to find on the intertron). I was thinking that maybe there could be a separate page, forum, stickied thread that links to all of the image galleries we have. Would make it a lot easier to view some often hard-to-find pictures of vehicles. This could also include image galleries for other makes as well, if someone wanted. Just a suggestion! Thanks!

The occational outtages today were my doing as I was trying to get a new modual installed into the server. It is a modual that works to decrease our page loading times. From this, I've managed to shave 6 seconds off of our total page load time for the front page. Hopefully things feel a bit snappier around here.

I just wanted to let you all know that I am (and have been) working on a major site reorganization. I'm coming to the point where things I change will start to be noticeable to general users. I just wanted to let you know the changes in store before they happen. This is not an exhaustive list, but intended to cover the major points. New theme - the new theme feels lighter (as in less busy) and allows me to reorganize the menus in a more coherent manner. You will also have the option of selecting a dark theme with a simple click of an icon in the upper right. Dark theme simply flips the background from light to dark and the font color vice versa. The sl…

Even though we have the "view new posts" option in the menu, I've found it over the years to be unreliable sometimes, as it can and will randomly clear out the most recent posts, so nothing shows up (like just now). What about if in addition to "view new posts" the site incorporated RSS, which is far more reliable? Just a thought.

a "readers corner" , so there is a place to leave a review on any good books anyone reads... hehe it can be out own "book club" hahahah but the idea is tell what book it is and maybe a decent couple of paragraphs including why you wanted to read it, what it was about, and a critique of it. it would include any genre, fiction and nonfiction. just an idea.

Proton Shows Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Lookalike Concept of Inspira with 240HP Turbo Engine FRIDAY, DECEMBER 03, 2010 The 2010 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show at the Putra World Trade Centre in Malaysia saw local automaker and owner of Lotus, Proton, revealing a host of concept models including a sport prototype of the recently launched Inspira called the Jebat. Needless to say, it's clearly inspired from the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X. As you may remember, the Inspira is a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer sedan and is the result of an OEM collaboration between the Malaysian automaker and Mitsubishi Japan. However, we're not so sure if Mitsubishi had this in mind when it …
