Am replacing the front springs on a 1967 Camaro resto. Is it possible to get the springs back into their perches with out some kind of spring compressor? I noticed when I removed the old ones that they had to be pried out as they were under some compression, my manual doesn't mention any advice on this issue! Thanks again, hipirn..

took my car in to get serviced at a tranny shop... fluid and filter called and said my seal is leaking, i thought it might have been a power steering leak...nope.... said a fix was ~$150 i think is this fair, and how hard would it be to do not in a shop...aka driveway. any potentially horribleness could ensue by leaving it alone.. short of tranny fluid leaking out quicker than i check on it?

The info was right on ! Thank You !, it was the crank sensor but removing broken piece in the block seems impossible. A guy says he has a tool for that . I don't. I tried leaving it in for a five mile gamble but the car stalled and the battery was dead just like that. Removed the new one thinking it was broke but it was'nt. Fished around with thin metal objects and I can get the piece to almost lift but it seems caught. Can I remove the oil pan and pluck it out ? Did I ruin the motor by leaving the other piece in there ? Please help , Thanks , Eric It's a 2.5 1986 Century Buick

I figured I would tap the minds of some of the most automotively intelligent people I know for this. I am trying to help my brother find a pair of doors for his 78 T/A that he's in the process of restoring. Would anyone be able to help me point him somewhere? He said he's looked on e-bay and carparts.com and all he can find are the skins. He needs the whole door - frame and all. I appreciate any help you could give me.

I just bought a Buick Lucerne that has a 4.6L Northstar V-8 and I was wondering what grade of fuel would be best for it. This is to seek maximum fuel economy, performance and engine life. I want to keep this vehicle for several years so I want to use fuel that will help with overall longevity. Also, what engine oil would be best for long term operation and economy.

Before the winter my drivers side fog light kept cutting out and and after I've replaced bulb after bulb I finally looked at the harness and come to find out the plug was rusted over and wet. Even after lightly sanding off the rust (that I could) and drying it out, I'm still loosing bulbs. Anyone know the part# for gmpartsdirect.com for this particular part? I've tried looking on there and can't find it so I'm not even sure what the proper name is. Also, anyone know where the wire leads up to before I go under my car and attempt to trace it back? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking into installing an aftermarket remote starter on my 03 Grand Cherokee, and am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to which brands are good, or specific models that are a good deal, but more importantly work well, and aren't a huge pain in the ass to install. Bulldog seems to have some nice units, but I don't know much about them.

I have a 2003 gmc z71 with a 5.3 motor, and here lately ive been having a lifter tap after the vehicle sits for a few hours, it is usually in 40-50 degree weather. I use 5w-30 motorcraft oil and change it every 3 months because i never reach 3000 miles on it. I took it on a road trip the other day a drove about 400 miles, and half way on the trip it started tapping but only for a few minutes. It has 59,000 miles on it, is this normal or may I have a problem? thanks in advance

So, my friends just recently bought a MC-5 from a church and it has an 8V-71 in it. There were able to drive it to storage and then drive it around a bit, but now the bus will start and then it will blow lots of smoke and wont go past 900 RPM. I don't know yet what color the smoke is or how long the bus sat without the motor being ran, but I from what I know so far, I don't think this is good news at all. Anybody have any knowledge on this or know where I can go for answers?

:( Hope someone can help! We have a 1998 9000 cse with intermittent power lock issues. The key will always unlock the driver's door, but off and on the other doors will not lock or unlock with the drivers door or the console power lock. I have opened up the drivers door today (dismantled completely) and I found that the lock actuator clicks and 'bulges' slightly when the console lock is pressed, but it does not move the lock. Hi All, I was wondering what you guys think about the 6.2 gasoline running a true Dual exhaust. It appears to me that on first glance my 6.2 already has dual catylitic converters and I would like to help it breath better by changing the single exhaust to a true dual. Sound and HP are not my number one goal. I will get that if it breaths better. I am installing a Volant air induction with the new Donaldson Power Core filter that uses the newer Nano-filter technology and is said(by Donaldson) to be 99.8 efficent. Cleaner in hopefully less wear. I have already started the transition to synthetic oil and will run a bypass system soon too, with oil analysis included for oil fi…

Yesteray, I bought myself a cassette deck adapter so I could listen to my iPod in my Intrigue. When I went to try it out this afternoon, I inserted it into the cassette slot and "TAPE ^" appeared on the screen. But about maybe 5 seconds later, the deck ejected the cassette, then drew it back in. It repeated this eject/accept process three more times before finally rejecting the adapter and displaying an "E13" code on the screen. To be sure, I tried the adapter in the stereo that I have in my room; it works fine. I realize this will entail a trip to the dealer to be sorted out, but I was wondering if anyone here knew what the radio error codes mean...maybe even estimate a …

If you fill it up with gas it runs fine. Mostly have problems on the highway at constant speed but is not repeatable and does not happen on every tank full. Just acquired an 07 Suburban. It had an aftermarket radio/cd/dvd player installed. It was put in because the previous owner de-installed the previous aftermarket system. As a result, the rear a/c and rear radio do not work (appears no power to rear unit - though the rear heated seats work) and the audio volume controls on the steering wheel do not work. The local chevy dealer looked at it and said that the radio was not communicating to the amp (although the the audio was playing fine in all systems/dvd and indicated that the rear air needed to communicate with the amp/radio in order to work. The dealer recommends reinstalling teh OEM radio. Before we do that, we wa…

I have to move the '69 Firebird. It has a fairly worn Chevy 350. About six years ago I last attempted to start it and was unsuccessful. At that time it had sat for about 2 years. Now it hasn't been attempted to start in about 6 years. I checked my fluids, poured some gas in the carb and put a battery on it, and even with a good battery, I'm getting nowhere. The engine does turn over... slowly... but it sounds nasty... a deep, dry, grinding. Normally, I would panic, but I recall a different, worn, engine which sounded similar (father's worn 350 Chevy Cubevan) until I got enough juice into the starter... at which point it fired up and ran. Is this grinding the be…

Less than three years ago, I had a pressure control solenoid installed in the transmission on my 2000 Century. It cured a intermittent hard shifting problem and whine when starting out from a stop. I could usually stop this problem if I turned off the ignition for a few seconds but this became diffcult in stop and go traffic. The problem is coming back, about once or twice a week. Is this a known problem? Is there a TSB? Should GM help pay for repair because the same part has to be replaced?

Well, Just after getting the Cavalier back from the dealership for a 700 dollar Brake Job, as well as a Wheel/Front End Alignment and A the replacement of a broken bolt that was causing the clopping noise that I described earlier. Now something new has popped up. Whenever I turn the steering wheel either when the car is stopped, or at <35KPH, I get this high pitched "Wheeeeeeee" sound coming from the column? It's lower pitch than the sound of the electric steering on the Maxx, but it's a new sound that has now only popped up... Any Insight??

Hey guys, I need some help from the resident experts! I'm trying to gather info on a potential cylinder head swap taking the GMC Acadia's higher-flowing cylinder heads and using them in a 2007 G6 GTP. They will be ported also. What I really need is info on the differences between the two engines, whether it is just the heads and gaskets I need to replace, or whether there are differences in valves/manifolds that will send the price of this swap skyrocketing more than it already is. I'm hoping I just need to put the new heads and gaskets in and the rest will be compatible, that is what the small amount of info I have been able to gather thus far is saying. What I could r…

I had my C5 dyno'd at Texas-Speed today, the service was excellent, as always. The TSP crew really helped me out and went the extra mile to make sure my car was running at its best. Modifications: PRC 215 heads MS4 Cam LS6 intake manifold TSP 1.75" longtube headers w/ x-pipe underdrive pulley Textralia clutch and flywheel RPM differential with 3.90 gears Results: There was absolutely no 'special dyno treatment' for my car. There were no tricks used here, no icing of the intake manifold, no octane booster, just strapping the car down with pump gas (91 octane) and making some pulls. The intake manifold and throttle body are the next things that n…

Does anyone know of a GM lock cylinder interchange? Since I basically never sell any cars, I have found it convenient to rekey my cars to use the same lock codes. In some cases, this is quite easy... in other cases, its a little tricky. I currently rekey on a set of one sided E/J keys, which makes things easy for 30 years worth of GM cars. However, I'm not real fond of the double sided keys, especially the '90s ones. Unfortunately, I'm not clear if I can swap these out. Generally, will do things modular style, so some sort of interchange is possible... for example, the '97 Tahoe I just got has a shot set of keys and /or cylinders. To use E/J keys, I need cylinders …

This is weird, the round plastic trim piece that goes around the knob that adjusts the lumbar support for my seat came off my seat. One of the clips that holds it onto the seat actually snapped, and the two remaining clips won't hold it so now when I sit down, it just pops off (along with the knob). So I just took it off and have the knob on there without the trim piece. I don't think I'm going to buy the trim piece as the knob works and stays attached to the seat just fine w/out it. It doesn't bother me too much, but it definitely makes me wonder if I should be defending GM as adamantly as I do. I know a lot of people who would be pretty bummed if this happened t…

Starting this thread for a single focus and that is job discussion of software in the Auto industry. I took a quick look, Ford has 1,500 software positions open in support of their EV products. GM had over 1,300 listed on their site and since the pandemic took hold has removed most jobs and is showing less than 100 jobs now. Yet on Indeed they show 50 jobs open for software engineers in embedded development. Took a look over at VW which is showing hundreds of software jobs in Tennessee. Seems both BMW and Mercedes-Benz also has lots of openings for software engineers here in the US. This makes one wonder as the auto industry moves to EV's which will require stil…

I bought a Pontiac G6 in September 05 and started having battery problems the beginning of December. Dead battery the beginning of December, had it jump started and brought it to the dealership. They couldn't find anything wrong with the car. Two weeks later the battery was dead again. I had it towed dead so that they could find the problem. I was told that the battery was no good and it wouldn't hold a charge so they replaced my battery. Everything was fine until the beginning of February, again I had a dead battery. I had it towed again and still couldn't find the problem. The dealership called GM Tech Support and they said that I don't drive the car enough to recharge …

So, here's my issue: For $#!+s and giggles, and because I got them free... and because a rear side marker lamp in my bumper went out and is the most difficult light I've ever had the displeasure to attempt accessing... ahem, I installed LED lights for all park, brake and turn signal lamps on my wife's car. I understood there would be an issue with hyper-flashing with the turn signals (which are combination park/turn lamps in front #1057 - double filament, and only turn lamps in rear #1056 - single filament). An electronic flasher solved that problem. The other problem is that with the four combination tail/brake lamps #1057, two 194 style rear markers and the high-mou…

Im looking into putting a new exhaust system on my truck, a 2017 Z71 5.3. As of now I have my old Flowmaster 40 SI/DO muffler dumped right before the read axle. The 2004 Grand Prix GTP has been in the family about 3 years now, and recently it has started belching out an awful, dieselly odor from the HVAC every so often. Its been too intermittent for me to put my finger on the problem, so I'm curious if any other GM owners have come across such a problem. The problem is that the car will just be driving along normally when it happens... not hitting any bumps, turning or braking. We've observed it with the AC on and off, with the Recirc on and off. The smell lasts about 5 seconds and smells remarkably like one drove into a big cloud of diesel smoke. Of course, there is no smoke... or any diesels for miles, usually. I would im…

Apparently, most GM cars have PassKey III after 1996, which uses an RFID... odd, considering my '99 Bonneville has a resistor pellet (and I guess is PassKey II). This makes some sense, as the '04 Grand Prix keys are marked PK3. However, both the '98 Sunfire and the '97 Tahoe are both well optioned, however, both use a metal key which cannot possibly have a RFID in it. I can believe the Tahoe might have had PassKey III bypassed... but the Sunfire has spent most of its life in out family... I can't imagine that it was bypassed when the car was less than 6 years old... in fact, I find it hard to believe both vehicles might have been bypassed. Is there some sort of easy w…

I just got a set of Euro tailights for my 88 GMC for Christmas and I was wondering? I noticed that in the passenger side light two bulbs light up for the tailights but on the driver side only one bulb lights up? All the brake lights work and everything its just that it has this problem. My buddy has an 89 GMC and his lights do the same thing and they do it on the exact same side? Does anyone know why its like that or know how to fix it??? Thanks

Does anyone know where I can find out if a 245/75R16 tire on a 16x7 Cragar Soft 8 rim with 4" rearspacing will fit on a Chevy Colorado Z85 4X4? I've been to the bespoke forums. Thanks.

In January of this year, the transmission took a crap in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with 128k miles. I replaced the car with a 2012 Ford Fusion SE with the 2.5 liter and 6 speed automatic transmission. Prior to buying the car, I had read about transmission issued with the car, but mostly in 2010, and I thought maybe they had the issue fixed. My car currently has 16,500 miles on it, and I'm having transmission issues. I'm curious if anyone is familiar with that transmission and might have any information. The three times it has been to Ford it has come back with "cannot duplicate", so it hasn't been fixed. The first trip in they did a software flash, which helped, bu…

I have a 2001 2dr 4wd 5 speed Blazer that is driven on almost billiard table smooth streets and had an oil change with lube every 3,000 miles. At about 55,000 miles when the steering was cranked from almost lock to lock, like when backing out of a parking space, a knocking sound could be heard. I had read a service bulletin on the sound saying it was due to ball joint wear and took it into the dealer and was told the lower ball joints were worn. They were replaced under warranty and the tech who worked on it said most Blazers don't make it to 50,000 miles without needing a replacement and he commented on how well kept and tight my Blazer was. I can't fathom l…

Hey guys, I don't even know if anybody remembers me, it's been a real long time. But anywho... before I start I want eveyone to know that my father is the king of knowledge when it comes to knowing about my car (or any car especially GM, hes been rebuilding engines and doing body work on cars since he was 14 years old, and is currently the service manager at a Chevy dealer in PA) but I still want some advice because he's in a state of denial because he has to find a way to get her intake leak fixed, and now solve my new issue, which is why I'm here. Sorry that took so long. The issue is apparently "sticky lifters", which we are assuming was caused by sludgy oil (since…

Understanding Batteries – Why so many cells? Have you ever wondered why some EV batteries have thousands of cells? Why the Volt’s battery is so big even though it was “only” 16 kWh? Can you actually save about half the money if you have a 50 kWh battery instead of a 100 kWh pack? (1) Cells and batteries: Before we get started, let’s get the terminology right. A “cell” is the smallest element in a chemical charge storage device. A “battery” is a bunch of cells strung together. The 1.5V AA Duracell is a “cell”. A pack with four of them strung together for a total of 6V in your flashlight referred to as a “battery”. (2) EV Batteries: A lithium ion EV…

We just revised and edited our installation instructions for window tint. These instructions are not just for our films but are intended to be used by anyone who wants to do their own tint. The instructions cover side windows and rear windshield cleaning, prep and installation but not front visor installations. We will be adding another section on that soon. Please check it out and let me know if there is anything you think needs clarifying or correction: http://www.rvinyl.com/Window-Tint-Installation-Instructions.html

Will any one of these valve covers fit on an LT1 pulled from a 1994 Caprice police cruiser? 12497978 12497985 12355350 My dad's putting that engine in a 1955 Bel Air (after modding the heck out of it), and I might get them for my dad for Christmas. About the only thing I know about the current covers is that they're the center bolt style. TIA!

Here is a place to list/review/recommnd products and accessories you use on your cars. I'll start with my most recent "discovery" Bosch Icon brand wiper blades. These are the low profile blades you may have seen on the new BMWs and new Lucerne. They don't have a traditional blade frame, rather they are a one piece plastic unit with a "spoiler" lip on the top. I've found they work much better then any other blades I've purchased. Due to their framless design, the also work well as a winter blade. Easiest install ever. You'll spend 5 times as long trying to get your old blades off as you will putting theses blades on..... unless your old blades are also Bosch Icons…

in my dads nova's instrument cluster the numbers dashes words whatnot are the white-green color the luminescent type markings. is that correct for a 68? my 69 impala's are the green-white but i was under the impression, as was he, that the lettering and all was supposed to be plain white. can anyone confirm this for me?

Was looking for info on my new Malibu Maxx's engine/tranny and ran across the GM Powetrain site. Wow, what a fantastic time-sink that is going to turn out to be (I'm such a geek)! http://www.gm.com/explore/technology/gmpow...ther_engine.jsp
