Wandered around Pickering yesterday at lunch looking for a hybrid to drive. Stopped at an Acura dealer first, in case there was a hybrid CSX (I thought that made sense but apparently not). Then I stopped at Chevy, where the salesman told me they haven't ordered another Silverado hybrid since the first one took them many months to sell. Next door was Nissan, who had a Altima hybrid on display. Lettering on the windshield proclaimed a $3500 rebate from the Canadian government. Nissan has expanded its probe into former chairman Carlos Ghosn with the investigation into various European subsidiaries that may bring more criminal charges. Automotive News has learned from sources that the focus of the investigation will be around the Renault-Nissan BV based in the Netherlands. This was set up by the two automakers back in 2002 to be a strategic management company that oversees the alliance. Nissan finds itself in trouble once again as it admitted today that it had improperly measured exhaust emissions and fuel economy for 19 models sold in Japan. According to Reuters, Nissan found that test environments for emissions and fuel economy at final inspection stations didn't meet up to standards. Nissan also found that inspection reports were be based on altered measurements. In the tiny Ute class, the Nissan Rogue has caught my eye. After reading the Car&Driver comparo test, then going to the Edmunds owner reviews, and finally checking one out at the (closed) dealer, this thing seems like a "best in class" as a street SUV, at least from my perspective. Sporty looks inside and out, a long list of high-tech features, sprightly performance coupled with good mpg all work to make this thing worth a closer look. The hearing also allowed Ghosn and his team of lawyers to make their case against the various charges brought against him. According to Automotive News, Nissan is planning to export Titans from their Canton, Mississippi plant to China to hopefully take a slice of the country's commercial and construction segments. According to Cars Direct who got access to the ordering guide, Nissan dealers can now order up the Nissan Leaf with the 60 kWh battery pack. The long range EV go into production in January 2019 with Spring 2019 delivery. It now appears that the Leaf will hit the same price as the Chevy Bolt with the top of the line Leaf SL costing $42,500 compared to the fully loaded Bolt at $41,780. Nissan has released new images of its URGE design concept, set to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The motorcycle-inspired car seats three and focuses on light weight and performance. It’s also the first car to offer a “fully integrated gaming system,” according to the automaker. Nissan rolled out another Juke concept in time for the Tokyo Motor Show. Though not as crazy as the Juke GT-R, the Juke Nismo does come with some goodies. Nissan Full-Sized Vans Coming to America? Washington DC March 6, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Nissan is looking into the possibility of manufacturing a full-sized van in North America, reported Automotive News. The Japanese automaker would build the van based on its full sized truck platform, shared by the Titan pickup and two SUVs. "We have not made a decision to produce the van, but I think it could be a possibility," said Francois Bancon, Nissan's head of product planning and development.
