Last night I saw a commercial for the Mazda 6, and it seemed as though one of their biggest triumphs with the car was that they were able to package six (6!) airbags into it. I giggled a bit as I told my parents that the smaller Cruze has 10 standard.

The GM Heritage Center was excellent! So many beautiful cars and a great environment. I have changed my mind. GM could leave this open for GM employees because if it is opened to the public, the cars may get wrecked or ropes may be put around them. There is an amazing amount of cars in there as well. Our Ford Expy felt lonely out in the parking lot. MightyMouse we missed your Malibu. I will post pics on Sunday or whenever.

A few of you might remember my recent story about the escaped convict and how our neighborhood dogs helped to keep him at a safe distance. ( http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...mp;#entry284714 ) And you might also remember my mentioning that we lived at the edge of one of the largest Black Bear sanctuaries in NC. SETTING THE SCENE: So I came home from work tonight and picked up my mom at around 10:30 to go to a local ice cream place and after satisfying our cravings we headed back home at about 11:00. I'm starting my grad engineering design project this term, and I'm meeting up with my group to finalize the topic, and submit to a consultant for approval. But right now, we need ideas. We're focusing out topic on in-car entertainment Any ideas? Say, what would be great to have in the car audio/video system? Thanks for any input in advance!

This is one of the best, most well-written opinion pieces I've read among the car publication circles in quite some time. Take a bit to read this- Build the Brand, Burn the Brand and let me know what your thoughts are on the matter. I think it almost perfectly sums up my stance. I've said it time and again with regards to BMW, Mercedes, and the like. When you build and sell so many cars, your product inevitably begins to lose it's cachet and exclusivity that make people desire it in the first place.

So, parents are away for an extended period of time. I try to drive their 2013 LaCrosse once every week or two just to move it around. Today something odd happened... started it up, and the first things I noticed is there was no gauge sweep and the animation for the LCD screen between the tach/speedometer was out of sync with the animation on the radio's screen. I figured, no big deal. I put the car in reverse, reverse camera comes on, sensors pick up that a girl is walking past the car on her way to the bus stop, everything is normal. I back up, shift into drive, and start going along my way. About a minute into the drive, the radio screen goes black, reboo…

I guess the engineers nowadays are really up to something. If you look under the hood of the Civic, you'd notice there is absolutely NO space for any kind of work. This leads to strange engine layouts The other day when me and my friends were holding a car wash fest, the guy with a Civic Si was changing his headlight bulbs to the white ones. Interesting enough, you have to take out the whole coolant tank to reach the bulbs. I accidently picked it up, and coolant was leaking from it. I started hearing cursing and foul language. In short, you had to unlatch the battery, and remove the coolant tank for you to get to the bulbs. Car engineers these days... Or should I …

I admit it ... I'm fascinated by how lives are intertwined, especially when people don't even realize it, and I'm fascinated by nostalgia (as you may remember from some of my posts). Put those two together ... and you have one helk of a combination. Case in point ... the former Meadowdale International Raceway. In its heyday (1959-1969), the raceway featured many races along its 12-turn, 3.27 mile road course, situated NW of Chicago, in Carpentersville IL, north of the then new I-90 tollway. In recent years, it has been turned into what is now known as Raceway Woods ... a forest preserve that features a path that follows the old raceway concrete. I recently became aw…

** First, Sorry for posting the whole article.. It's just short.** Product Liability Case Ends in Michelin's Favor "In a unanimous verdict, a jury in Lake Havasu City, (Mohave County) Ariz., recently found in favor of Michelin North America Inc., on all claims relating to a product liability lawsuit filed against the company by the plaintiff, Kimberly Allen. The three-week trial was heard in Arizona State Court. The verdict was handed down on Nov. 19. In the lawsuit, Allen and her attorneys alleged that a defective Uniroyal tire -- manufactured by Michelin at its plant in Ardmore, Okla. -- was the reason for a single-vehicle rollover accident on Oct. 8, 2011, i…

'...NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, called NuSTAR, has taken its first glimpse of our galaxy’s supermassive black hole, thanks to a recent flare-up at the galactic core. NuSTAR, a state-of-the-art, space-based X-ray telescope, was aimed at Sagittarius A*, a compact radio source identified as a black hole, for two days in July. The goal was to better understand just what makes our galaxy's central black hole so different from others. Compared to other galaxies, the Milky Way’s black hole is relatively calm. While other supermassive black holes devour gas and stars around them, releasing large amounts of energy in the process, ours only seems to have the occ…

"Finding trust & love is not always easy to make" __ Yael Naim __ 'New Soul' After experiencing a roller coaster last weekend of July, I decided to post 1 last "commentary". We live in a very small world. And, we don't always realize it. Fellow "roadie" Denny G & I have had several "misses" meeting in person, including a stop in Amarillo TX in 2011. We were in that town the SAME night, but didn't realize it until a day or so later while comparing "current road trip" notes. So, when Denny told me about his Route 66 trip this year, we were determined to meet. Before he left, we briefly discussed the possibility of me driving with him to St Louis, Friday, 07/2…

So, I never did fix my computer. After 7 months, it's gotten to the point where my desktop works most of the time. However, it still has moments when it disappears. I've singled the issue down to the file rundll32.exe. I apparently have some bad .dll files that were added by the virus that my anti-virus software doesn't seem to detect. Specifically, there's one that keeps attacking my Mozilla Firefox and causing it close when it's being run. Before this, I got rid of a bad driver that was causing pop ups. I hoped it was the main cause of everything, but it wasn't. I always figured rundll32.exe was the problem itself, but it's where it should be and is obviously Windows so…

In our backyard sits an 86 oldsmobile delta 88, for some reason a few years ago the motor went kaput. The car is pretty good condition, even the interior. Im gonna end up getting another 3.0 V6 for it, heard horrible things about the 3.8's reliability. Probably gonna get a motor from a junkyard and clean it up, even run some engine cleaner through it, but does anyone on here have some ideas on things i can do to enhance the performance?

This weekend, my wife & I had planned a trip to Yellowstone, but the weather turned crappy. So last minute we picked out a destination to the south for better weather, and went to the Great Basin National Park. Beautiful hiking & caves, good times. Drove partway home yesterday & spent the night at Windover, and soon learned it's on the edge of the Utah Salt Flats. This morning we popped by the Bonneville Speedway, where all the racing happens on the salt flats. I didn't know what to expect, but I figured there would be at least some kind of dragstrip-esque buildings. Nope, nothing. No one was out racing either, unfortunately, but there were some folks a…

* During the last Chicago Cubs game ever broadcast on WGN radio, 09/28/2014, Pat Hughes (voice since 1996) reminisced & mentioned that, when saying goodbye, we tend to say we’ll see each other later or will keep in touch, but that rarely actually happens. I somewhat succeeded, by road tripping 2002-2011, meeting many of you along the way. I also tried to get people in this area together but stopped asking; ironically, I still want to ask if anyone wants to meet up…. I look through my pics of road trips, people, places, cars … & wonder where some, including those I thought would always be in my life, are today. Next week, I say goodbye to friends of 13+ year…

I'd be open to either 24 or 39 month leases though I would prefer the 24 month. my goal is to have the lease payment come out to around 500 a month with an absolute max of 600 a month. I would have 5000 to put down and I need 15k miles a year. Is the 500-600 a month possible. All my prior car shopping have been purchases so leasing is nwe and a little confusing to me.

Well, I don't know if there is a big golfing community in here or not, but I am looking for a new set before summer. My hand me down set of Taylor Mades that my dad gave to me when I started back in the late 90s are showing their age. I love those clubs, but I lost my 8 iron last summer and the face on my 5 iron is almost worn away. I don't golf a ton, so I am kind of shopping on a budget. I want to stick with a well known name brand, and would like to stick to graphite shafts. Other than that I am open for anything. I wouldn't be opposed to a used set if you thought I could find one in good shape somewhere. Especially if it is going to give me more bang for my bu…

Ever wonder how they make the templates fo PPF kits? Probably not but in case you have I just came across a great expose on one way that companies like Xpel get their templates for precut paint protection film. At first it seemed like a low-tech, labor-intensive way to go about it but the more I think about it the more I realize it couldn't be any other way. Check out my quick summary here and there is a link in the blog post to the complete expose on the TintDude form: http://blog.rvinyl.com/2014/03/27/how-to-make-a-paint-protection-kit-an-insiders-look-at-precut-ppf-kits/

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/save-johnson-valley-ohv-area-be-fiscally-responsible-stop-29-palms-marine-base-expansion-keep-public/5r0C7Xw4 Trust me, I'm not against the military or the Marines (my step-son is currently undergoing basic training with them right now!). But I don't agree with their wanting to take away 147,000 acres of open space that is used for off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation. If you agree, please sign the online petition at the link above (registration is required).

In honor of Turkey Day, I thought I'd make a special 'UDG' thread. The premise here is simple, you will only be allowed to pick cars that are built overseas, and must make the trip to YOUR nation via water. Rules- 1)Production models only. 2)These are your only vehicles. 3)Maximum of 5 choices. 4)Nothing older than 20 MODEL YEARS OLD......a wildcard for fun. 5)Your picks must have been built OVERSEAS and transported across a body of water to reach you market.

Salesman: Welcome to 21st Century Chevrolet, can I help you? Me: I'm looking for something interesting and a bit different. Salesman: OK, What other new cars have you bought in the past. Me: An El Camino SS, a Firehawk, and a GTO - I like cars that stand out in a crowd. Salesman: How about moving up to a Corvette? Me: That's not in the budget. Salesman: In that case Camaro is the car for you! Me: I don't know, I'm not much of a Camaro guy. Got anything else? Salesman: I could put you on the waiting list for the new SS. Me: SS? SS, what? Salesman: Just SS, that's the name. Me: I see. Got a brochure? Salesman: I can let you look at my copy, but we don't have an…
