Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

After many tries at snagging a LaCrosse from Alamo or Avis for a weekend, I finally succeeded. It was at the Alamo location at LAX. Interestingly enough, I had just taken a Friday off in Las Vegas where I had a Grand Prix, so I got to test them back to back. In short, I used to drool over the LaCrosse. Now, it's just a nice car. Chief among my disappointments was the purported quietness. Maybe this only applies when equipped with the 3.6 VVT V6. With the base 3800, the engine roar is just a tad quieter than it is on the Grand Prix. I took the LaCrosse out to the desert and back as well as all around the West side. The ride is fairly controlled yet pavement ga…

Golden boy Sajeev Mehta has written another underhanded review of Buick. Like much of the "buff press," he writes like his real-world car buying experience is limited to what mommy and daddy drive. Cars in the real world are about more than how fast you can go around a downhill corner. There's also, among other things, comfort for a family (not just your girlfriend) and overall value to consider. If these auto writers (what are Mehta's qualifications anyway?) had their way we'd all be driving around in kidney jarring, hard perched, over-engineered and over-priced Euro traps. He is right, though, about the CXL being a little more Buicky than the CXS. For me, more chr…

Since there's a lull in the Buick forum this weekend I figured I'd post this bit of news. Not so much about the car- but you know you have a loyal fanbase when they refuse to let a murderer and a rapist take their car. http://www.lenconnect.com/articles/2005/12...news/news02.txt

The Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regal/LaCrosse have shared the same platform for 20 years. With the SWB Zeta G8 replacing the GP. The LaCrosse will likely be replaced by a SWB Zeta as well. Naturally the LWB Zeta would replace the Lucerne. The best part is that both Zetas could be here in 18 months. I can't wait! If anybody has proof that my speculation is correct. PLEASE! Post it!

Milford, Mich. - Not unlike a finely crafted musical instrument, the 2006 Buick Lucerne - the nameplate's most premium model - was literally "tuned by ear" using advanced acoustic measurement and analytical technologies. Throughout Lucerne's development process, GM engineers regularly used a sophisticated sound recording device nicknamed "Aachen HEAD" (pronounced AH-KIN) to capture sounds within Lucerne's interior while the car is in motion. An Aachen HEAD is a digital recording tool that closely matches the way humans process sound by preserving the binaural attributes of the sound inside or outside of a moving vehicle. The device, which…

(1) Electrochromic Windows This is nothing new. The technology has been around for decades. The window glass has an electrochromic film applied onto it or sandwiched between two panes of glass. The film is almost clear until voltage is applied on it when it turns dark. The level of darkness can be controlled at the touch of a button or turn of a dial. Each passenger can control the darkness of his window. The driver can have a master override to darken or lighten all windows if needed. In addition, the car can be engineered to for example automatically lighten glass when reverse is engaged or have different default darkness settings in the day and at night. This basical…

Unsold 1987 Buick GNX becomes dealer time capsule. In the mid-1980′s the performance car market in the United States was still in a pretty dismal state of tune. There were a few rays of light like the Ford Mustang GT and Pontiac Trans Am, but the only real shining star was Buick’s one year only 1987 GNX. Sure it was expensive, but it had the numbers to back up the price. Back then anything with horsepower numbers over 200 was a big deal, so when the GNX came out with its underrated 276 bhp and 360 lb-ft. of torque, enthusiasts couldn’t help but take notice. There was however one inherent problem… the car cost $30,000, around $10,000 more than a standard Buick Grand Nat…

Car and Driver today reported that Buick will get a fourth model at the end of the decade, and it's likely that it will be a sedan and/or convertible based on the Velite. Here is a link to the story: http://www.caranddriver.com/carnews/13083/...-for-buick.html

It's not much but here's what Buick GM Steve Shannon said yesterday Shannon admitted that he'd like to see a return of the Riviera nameplate on a "halo" model based on the popular Velite concept car of 2004 (pictured above), but that is a low priority at the moment.

Stopped by a Buick place today and touched a Verano. Didn't like the color.....red/gray. But the car is sharp. Looks like a larger car, and looks expensive. Parked next to a LaCrosse and Regal in total harmony. The Regal has a more avante garde look, but the Verano does have the looks to sell. Indeed. Makes the Focus look cheap and tawdry. Through the window, the interior looked consistent in quality to the Regal and the seats and dash look great. All the controls look really similar to the Regal's. Front seat looks spacious, rear looks tight for leg room. Seats looks very well sculpted. MPG on sticker of course is not eye popping, but sensible buyers will com…

The website carscoop.blogspot.com recently featured a video of the designers of the Buick Invicta concept car talking about the project. At :07-:08 into the video, there is a scene with two women standing near some art boards. What is the vehicle on the board to the very right? It almost looks like a two-door (?) Buick "Volt," with a high, blocky back. To see the video (and, hopefully, to give your opinion as to what that vehicle on the board is), click here.

I love Buicks. My parents drove them and still do, and I learned how to drive on a LeSabre and an Estate Wagon. My first car was a Skylark. It rocked. Buicks have impeccable quality, power, and in most cases, pretty cool styling. I'd love to buy one, but they need to make a car for 30-somethings, without abandoning their core market. Here's what GM should do with Buick: 1. Develop a coupe. Lexus has one, so does Mercedes, Infiniti, Acura and Volvo. If you want to be a premium brand, you need a 2 door. For most of Buick's existence, they've offered one, except for the past 8 years or so. Remember Skylark, LeSabre, Riviera,…

If you read the camaroZ28.com forum, you'll recognize the screen name "guionM," a knowledgeable poster who also contributes here. He made some interesting comments about the B-P-G channel today, and they should be of interest to Buick and Pontiac fans: "There are a number of cars headed for, and these are the key words: 'Buick-Pontiac-GMC'. Between this summer and 3 years from now, Buick is getting a Zeta-based sedan which will be a little longer than the G8. Pontiac is getting the G8 ST and a revised Solstice. The Lecrosse will be redone on Espilon and will probally be called Regal. Pontiac as a stand alone brand (as well as Buick) is for all practical purposes over. …

Well, its obvious that Buick is trying to go back to the refined and premium vehicles that they once made. going back to the luxurious and styled vehicles. and just a second ago i was thinking, what cars will be in store for the future buick? and if Buick changes peoples perception, enough so that people will buy them. what is their perception? so basically what i am questioning, is what type of cars should buick be making? always Buick has made full size sedans. Always. Buick has catered to people who desire comfort. well... why does Buick only offer full size sedans, or maybe the lacross is a midsize, but no compacts? what does GM have to compete wi…

After checking their website, I trekked into my local Buick/GMC dealer to check out the new 2013 Encore. It made me all googly-eyed... it's that cool, imo. In Brilliant Blue with Ebony cloth, it was a FWD Convenience model with the 5-spoke wheels. Very stylish. A bit nose-heavy in design, and tiny as heck, with big looking wheels (18" standard), it certainly has an attitude in its stance, with a beautiful interior. And it is not as "old" as it seemed in photos. How can it be described? Jaunty AND authoritative, even with its diminutive stature... it is a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Saleskid says it will be a 3-month wait for a factory order because it is built in Korea…

Let's see if I can narrow these down clearly and consisely for ya: 2009 Buick Lucerne CXL Options include: heated/cooled seats, harmon/kardon radio, heated wood steering wheel, wood shift knob, bluetooth, chromed 17" wheels. It's a 2009 so it has the 3900, 4-automatic. Currently available with this package (which makes it enticing for me to try an "older" car). $18,995, 34K miles, could prob talk them down a bit. 2010 or 2011 Buick LaCrosse CXL Either the 3.0L or 3.6L V6. Satisified with what would be included on the CXL trim so I wouldn't need to shop around for a special package. For around $26,995-27,995, at approximately 13-15K miles. Situation: job is unst…

I was wondering if the 0% financing is a cyclical thing, where it happens at the same time(s) of year every year? I think I recall seeing lots of commercials for this around the 4th of July and Labor Day last year. I also just got a notice in the mail that I can get another $750 bonus earnings to be used alongside my GM extended family card earnings. By the sounds of the brochure they sent, I can use all of this in addition to special financing rates. But the offer ends on Feb 28th. Currently Buick is only offering 4.9% or cash back. I would much rather have the 0.0% financing. Does anyone know if there are specific times of year they offer this? Looking to …

Happy birthday to my Regal! It turns 15 today. I bought it as my first brand new car while I was in grad school (though it was garaged at my parents' house 2,000 miles away) and the powertrain is original. It was factory-ordered. When I parked it last night, the odometer read 235,000.1. So, I'm less than 15,000 miles away from the quarter million mark I'm shooting for. Should I keep striving for it? I'll still get my new car (W-body) anytime between fall of 2007 and spring of 2008, and keep the Regal to try to hit that milestone!

I think this is shaping up to be one nice compact sedan for Buick. It is clearly a sedan version of the new Astra, but it appears that GM took a little more effort in ensuring that the front end treatment fit in with the Enclave and 2010 LaCrosse. I provided a link to the article below (Sorry! I'm not sure how to import photos). Link: Baby Buick Spied With Less Camouflage, Source: World Car Fans P.S. I am disappointed that I don't see any ventiports. P.S.S. I also don't want to see this nice looking sedan carry the "Verano" name. I would still settle for "Vectra", personally.

I still think this would make a nice addition to the Buick lineup as a "4-door coupe" type of vehicle that could draw younger customers into Buick showrooms. The engine choices would need to be altered for the U.S. market though. The turbo 4 would need to be the base engine with the 3.0 DI V6 serving as the optional engine. These engine offerings would keep the Regal positioned below the upcoming LWB Eps II LaCrosse, which I believe will have the 3.0 DI V6 as standard equipment and the 3.6 DI V6 as an optional engine. The link below provides more extensive pictures of the "Buickized" Opel Insignia that I have not seen before: Visit My Website Source: World Car Fans…

For some reason, the Buick Envision is not liked as much as people might think. Where I live, there are a LOT of Cadillac SRX models on the lots right now, but only about a dozen (new) Envisions. I have posted a poll to see which CUV you prefer to buy for your next vehicle. Sure, the SRX has been replaced with the XT5 but there are a lot of lightly used SRX model from 2011-15 at very attractive prices. The Envisions top out at $50K while even a 2015 SRX can go for about 35K or less. Please vote and explain your vote in the comments below.

It was getting kind of quiet around here concerning the NG LaCrosse. Hope I haven't stepped on anyone here, but I was playing around with the desires of others to see the Riviera design language grafted to what we know of the preproduction car spied. Here's a very quick and crude interpretation done on top of one of Chris' shots. And I have taken the liberty of calling it Regal. Enjoy.
