Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

The past year has seen autonomous vehicles making headlines with a number of technology companies such as Google and Apple working on their own vehicles. But Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen says autonomous vehicles shouldn't take away the act of driving to those who enjoy it. “Autonomous driving and driving passion must co-exist,” de Nysschen said to a group at the 10th annual J.D Power Automotive Marketing Roundtable in Las Vegas last week. “We’re after balance.” Standing in front of a picture of Google's autonomous prototype, de Nysschen said, “Many autonomous car (prototypes) emphasize sheer functionality. It would be a mind-numbing experience going from poi…

I just skimmed through my copy of Consumer Reports last night and I saw a real nice photo of a CTS. CR tested entry level luxury cars in their most recent issue. The first page of the review where they put the overall ratings, Consumer Reports decided to write this half page long caveat about how great the Cadillac is and other recent GM offerings, but how poor the reliability is on GM cars. The score for the CTS puts it in second behind an Infiniti but the CTS has the worst reliability out of all the cars in the entry level luxury class. The primary complaints that make the car way below average are "squeaky brakes" and "squeeks and rattles in the interior."

Jamie Lareau Automotive News June 8, 2009 - 12:01 am ET DETROIT -- General Motors wants to eliminate hundreds of Cadillac dealerships in metro markets to make the brand's per-store sales comparable with those of Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and BMW. In a dealer broadcast on Tuesday, June 2, GM sales chief Mark LaNeve said some Cadillac dealers might be surprised to learn they will be terminated by Oct. 31, 2010, said GM spokesman Pete Ternes. As part of the company's plan to winnow its dealership network, GM wants to align the number of Cadillac dealerships in major markets to those of its competitors. "Our current footprint of 1,400 Cadillac dealers, most of wh…

The video can be seen at Autoblog.com. John makes a lap of the Ring look easy. Please note the car is very smooth little drama in the tough corners. The car is very quiet for a at speed lap. The car is stock less the safety equipment. John hits On Star at one point. Finally please note this was an automatic not a standard shift car. So could the the standard shifter be faster yet?

New Cadillac Escalade shines By Anita Lienert WASHINGTON, D.C. -- One of the most critical moments in the redesign of the Cadillac Escalade happened three years ago when the General Motors premium brand rented a Hollywood film studio for an evening, set up a full bar and invited A-list celebrities, athletes and rappers to preview an early version of the 2007 model. Oscar winner Adrien Brody -- who will soon take delivery of a 2007 Escalade EXT -- and the rest of the glittering crowd said they loved the new Escalade's added chrome and the exterior details borrowed from the legendary Cadillac Sixteen show car. But they also had a warning: The 20-inch wheels, the biggest…

Cadillac will sell a diesel version of its new CTS medium-premium sedan in Europe Link to Original Article @ Automotive News But the diesel won't be available immediately. "We expect at least 50 percent of CTS sales to be diesels," said Braakhekke, Cadillac Europe spokesman. Without being more specific, he said the diesel would come during the early part of the model's life cycle. Company sources say Italian engine manufacturer VM Motori will supply the CTS with a 3.0-liter, V-6 diesel with about 245hp. Cadillac needs to offer diesels to be more competitive against with German premium brands. About 70 percent of Audi's unit sales in Europe are diesels. For BMW t…

Given that Cadillac plans to offer the new CTS-V in overseas markets for the first time, they felt they had to up their game in order to compete with the likes of the M5 and the AMG E63. The new engine offers so much more torque at all speeds than the V10 in the M5 that driveability should be much better regardless of whether the manual or automatic transmission is installed. For those who prefer to handle the gear selection process on their own, the same Tremec 6060 used in the ZR1 is paired up with a dual plate clutch. The dual plate clutch provides the necessary torque capacity with a lower pedal effort. Drivers who spend more of their time stuck in traffic jams or …

Cadillac was nice enough to invite me to an SRX test drive. Also available were the SRX's prime competitors: Lexus RX350, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLK. Without getting into all the numbers, I'll just share my driving impressions of all four. First off, the SRX is a really nice crossover. Looks good, and it's interior is certainly right up there with the others - actually maybe even the best. I had afew preconcieved notions going in. I was expecting the the SRX's 3.0L to be woefully underpowered. It wasn't as bad as I had expected, but it was a bit underpowered - actually more like under-torqued. The trans delivers beautifully smooth shifts, but sometimes finds itself flat…

Cadillac's president isn't planning to cut prices to reverse the trend of slumping sales for the brand. "We cannot deny the fact that we are leaving behind our traditional customer base. It will take several years before a sufficiently large part of the audience who until now have been concentrating on the German brands will find us in their consideration set," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in a interview with Automotive News. "Either you have to bring your volume aspirations into alignment with reality and accept that you will sell fewer cars. Or you have to drop the price and continue to transact at the prices where you were historically. I think the logic…

DETROIT (AdAge.com) -- Cadillac has narrowed the list of agencies in the hunt for its national creative account, and McCann Erickson has not made the cut. General Motors Co.'s luxury brand said the contenders are: Publicis Groupe-backed Bartle Bogle Hegarty, New York, and Publicis, New York; two Interpublic Group of Cos. agencies, Gotham, New York, and Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.; Omnicom Group's DDB, Chicago; and independent McKinney. The automaker said it will hold meetings with the agencies in Detroit before Thanksgiving, and finalists will pitch in January. Executives familiar with the pitch said GM, in searching for an agency for its Cadillac brand, concentrated…

Cadillac for the last 20 years has had from RWD to AWD autos and the top of the line for the cars has been a sub-brand for the performance line of the V edition. LYRIQ started off in 2023 as a RWD SUV with 340 HP / 325 LB-FT of torque winning accolades as such an outstanding EV of the year. This was followed up in January of 2024 with a 500 HP / 450 LB-FT of torque AWD EV. The LYRIQ-V has had rumors of providing 515 HP to 550HP or more with 450 LB-FT of torque. In reading the August C&D, there was a short take article on the new 08 STS with the newly offered Sport Pkg for V-6 models. C&D said great things about the car and never complained about the cheapness of the cabin. They just said that the controls for the radio/HVAC were difficult to decipher. They loved the way the sport pack cars handle and said that this option is a necessity if you buy an STS. They also, of course, said to stick with the V-6 instead of the V-8 and save $9500. On a personal note, the wheels on the Sport Pkg cars are beautiful. They are a nice 18" 7 spoke design, high polished or chrome. They are much better than the base or optiona…

With GM's announcement yesterday, we finally have concrete numbers on the ATS's weight. ATS 3.6 V6 = 3,456 lbs ATS 2.5 / 2.0T < 3,400 lbs Honestly, this is at the lowest end of the expect range for the V6 powered car and only about 100 lbs heavier than the 328i. It also means that with the same engine, the ATS is no heavier than the Delta II Verano -- that's no small feat. Given GM's porky track record, I expected the ATS to come in at about ~3,600 for the V6. This is excellent news. Given that the Small Block V8 is only 40 lbs heavier than the DOHC 3.6 V6, this opens up the possibility of a Pushrod V8 powered ATS-V at around 3,600 lbs and still under 3,700 l…

The replacement for the Cadillac SRX is expected to be shown this fall, possibly at the LA Auto Show. The Detroit News reports that the next SRX will likely be wearing the XT name, along with a number to designate where it stands in the lineup. Many analysts believe that the SRX replacement will be named the XT5. The SRX has proven to be a big seller for the brand since it moved to the front-wheel drive Theta platform. Last year, Cadillac moved 53,578 SRX models. But the model is getting long in the tooth. Sales so far this year have dropped 17.5 percent to 12,294 vehicles. "Cadillac's current SRX is one of the oldest products in the segment. The XT5 is part of Cadillac…

I am looking to replace my 200S soon and have been seriously considering a used ATS or CTS. I almost pulled the trigger on a CTS V-sport a couple of months ago but didn't and now the used prices on all CTS's (not just V-sport) seem to have rebounded since then. Good for Cadillac that they found bottom and are climbing again but bad for me. Sooo... after driving this 2016 ATS Luxury 2.0T and mentioning to the salesman about the CTS, when I got back to the dealership after the test drive he started talking to me about leasing a "new" courtesy vehicle with 4-5k miles on it already that would count against the lease. An improved version of the 2016 Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid is in the works, Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell confirmed for Edmunds on Monday. The 2016 ELR is expected to debut in November at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Changes include "engineering enhancements," Caldwell said. He would not provide details on the changes. Car shoppers should expect to see the revised ELR, which was all-new for the 2014 model year, at dealerships in the first half of next year. The changes are designed to make the ELR more competitive against a growing list of rivals, including the BMW i3, Porsche Panamera SE Hybrid and Tesla Model S. The ELR is a premium version of the Chevrolet V…

Finally Cadillac, has leadership that inspires confidence. I love it. Despite the constant berating of the detractors, Johan is seemingly pushing forth. Despite the actual desire of some for Cadillac to bow down to the Germans and except a place under them we have a foreign born leader saying "No.. We will rise back to our lofty position on TOP." It is impossible to compare ATS sales to 3series sales unless the variances of both are at least 80% the same. These type of things are only reserved for Cadillac though.. and never brands such as Audi or Jag. It is funny when U think about those two, as both are currently in a similar sales fashion as Cadillac, with one of the…

Slow Caddys in Europe Brand cuts sales goals following weak sales By WIM OUDE WEERNINK | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 07/23/07, 5:05 pm et General Motors will sell fewer Cadillacs than expected in Europe by 2010. After speaking this morning with Cadillac's product communications manager, David Caldwell, we've fleshed out some near-term product plans for General Motors' luxury brand – in particular the timetable for the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon. The automaker's Lansing Grand River plant is scheduled to begin building the stylish rear-drive load lugger in early May, and the first examples should be at dealerships around Memorial Day (May 25), or perhaps early June. Cadillac's first-ever U.S-market station wagon (no, the SRX crossover doesn't count) is expected to offer a reasonable 25 cubic feet of space beneath its rakish rear glass, and while it rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbas…

Ask GM design chief Ed Welburn what he thinks of it and this is what he would say, "It had a dramatic presence, very angular. But when you really look at it, the surfacing of the body was not very sophisticated at all," Welburn said to Automotive News. The second-generation CTS would add some sculpture that would smooth out the angular look while remaining as interesting as the first-gen model. So what's in store for the next-generation CTS? The brand's average transaction price has risen 25 percent in the last five years to $54,488 per vehicle sold in 2017 — making it among the best in the luxury segment, which last year averaged $48,752, according to J.D. Power and Associates. Cadillac's pricing gains reflect in part a smaller volume base, coming amid a 14 percent decline in U.S. sales since 2013. Still, they offer some validation for the strategy espoused by brand President Johan de Nysschen, who has been steadfast in stressing the brand's global long-term health over near-term volume and market share gains in the U.S. A big element of that strategy is Project Pinnacle, a retail program intended …

Cadillac continues to deliver on their move to being the standard of the world again in luxury autos and their move to an electric product line supported by an ICE product line. Cadillac had originally set a timeline of all ICE autos to be ended by 2030 but due to slow global sales, has taken the end date of ICE luxury autos off the table and will instead stop production with EVs clearly outsell ICE. With their recent delivery of the OPTIQ, Vistiq, and LYRIQ V EV's to the Cadillac family, Cadillac has moved forward with expanding the Escalade family having equal standard and extended length SUVs with the 2026 Escalade IQL. The IQL edition takes the best part …

While not winning the 24hr Le Mans in 1950, Cadillac did show off their bleeding edge innovation with "The Monster". This was a 5.4 Liter V8 Type 61 coupe that was specially designed prototype with multitubular space frame and aluminum body. The body built in collaboration with Grumman Aircraft with wind tunnel testing. Check out more on "The Monster" here for how it drove and the lack of safety back in 1950 compared to today. The hot thing for luxury automakers aside from crossovers is building electric vehicles to take on the elephant in the room, the Tesla Model. But Cadillac will not be joining this craze, at least not in the near future. Speaking with Automotive News, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said the automaker will equip most of their lineup with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The decision comes down to tightening regulations, especially in China. "For us, the avenue to ensure that we are able to play in China is going to be through plug-in hybrids," said de Nysschen. There's also the benefit that plug-in hybrids are a bit more practical than EVs and the fear of runn…

GM has announced that they will invest $81 million into the Global Technical Center for building the CELESTIQ. CELESTIQ using defining design, technology and performance will challenge the ultra-luxury auto space. Helping to achieve this will be the use of GM's extensive additive manufacturing capabilities and supplier network, featuring 3D printed parts, the most used in any of GM's vehicle programs to date. Since 1956, GM's GLobal Technical Center has been the heart of the company's engineering and design efforts and will now host vehicle production with the hand built CELESTIQ, Cadillac's Flagship sedan signifies a new, resurgent era for the brand…

Formula One Management has accepted GM's bid to be part of the league so Cadillac becomes the 11th team to be on the grid for 2026. Cadillac will partner up with TWG Global which owns Andretti Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing. It looks like Mario will be in charge as director of the team's board rather than his son Michael. Formula One had a problem with Michael. Cadillac for now will be using another manufacturer's engine. No word yet on who but rumors abound that it will not be Alpine/Renault as it was the first time around but Ferrari. I guess Ferrari was smitten when Chevrolet said that a Ferrai 458 and especially its engine was an inspiration for the Corvet…

Cadillac released teaser images today of the upcoming 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ-V. Fast on the heals of the Cadillac LYRIQ-V released earlier this year, Cadillac promises an even faster and more nimble version of its small crossover EV entry. Already sporting 300 horsepower, the Cadillac OPTIQ-V is poised to become the quickest compact crossover EV on the market. Cadillac engineers have reconfigured the suspension and tightened the steering for a more dynamic feel. For now we can only speculate about power output, but Cadillac will have more information about the 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ-V later this year. View full article
