How cool is this? I bet the people of 1957 never expected that Plymouth would be phased out in 2001. Time Capsule "This is the sort of thing that could happen only in Tulsa," spoke Lewis Roberts Jr. during dedication ceremonies marking the observance of Tulsa's Golden Jubilee Week. "TuIsarama!" chairman Roberts' made his remarks as citizens prepared to entomb a new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe as part of a time capsule buried on the southeast corner of the Tulsa County Courthouse lawn. Why would anyone want to bury a new car? Roberts was asked. "The 'Tulsarama!' committee," he replied, "decided on the event after looking for a method of acquainting the ci…

Well, I zipped down 95 yesterday afternoon to DC to see that awesome new Ang Lee movie about cowboys. Love the movie, want to see it again, sooo beautiful, yet so gutwrenching. Lots of interesting old pickup trucks in the movie, for those interested. The story spans about 20 years, and starts off with both guys driving beatup old 1950's GMCs... then they move on to 1960's and 70's Fords. Finally, we see Jack in a late 70's Chevy crewcab dually. So, that was one easy New Year's resolution... to see Brokeback Mountain. I know some of you guys would never see it because of the subject matter, and that's ok, but if your wife or girlfriend a…

A '67 Olds 442 just went for $100,000. That's the only one I've seen break the 100k mark so far. A '32 Ford Pro Street with over $135,000 invested in it only went for $45,000. Ouch.

So... how bad's your hangover? ...Or in other words, how was your night? I started the night off lonely... at my grandparents. My parents and my brother went somewhere else. Eventually, people came, and the party began. Started with Smirnoffs... surprised? Played some cad... lost. Then came new years... 3... 2... 1... Downed a small bottle of Whiskey. That later turned out to be a huge mistake as that stuff is pretty potent. After that more people came and we played more cad as well as a game of quarters (CLR, I think? Left, center, right...?). Won my money back. Drank more Smirnoffs inbetween glasses of water. Then it was just straight partying until I started…

I've gotta tell you.....I've driven a few BMW 6-series lately....and that car, IMHO, has the BEST production V8 exhaust burble/note of any car I think I've heard....in fact, I wish my C6 sounded as good. This is the ONLY V8 BMW that sounds this way.....according to BMW, they spent a good amount of time tuning the exhaust note to get it just right. Of note, our X5 4.4i has a similar V8 "detroit-style" burble...but it's not nearly as vocal as the 6-series. Runner up? M-Benz SL55 AMG..... GM runner up? Pontiac Grand Prix GXP 5.3L What do you guys think from the cars you've heard....?

Here’s the fourth annual list of the best and worst of GM and C&G during the past year. If the year could be summed up in one word, it’s “disaster.” There were plenty of natural disasters, most notable being Katrina, and GM had its own disasters to wade through. Prominent passings included Johnny Carson, Rosa Parks, and the only Pope that many people knew. News regarding GM came at a steady drip—of bad news, including the Fiat fiasco, pension and health care woes, the Delphi mess, falling market share, junk bond status, and record low stock prices. C&G experienced its own woes with glitches the first seven months of the year, and then the site went offline al…

so how does everyone here drive? I find there is quite a few styles i notice on the road.. there is agressive (taking everything fast, and easily angered) then there is normal (this doesnt need to be explained) then there is conservative (overly-cautious, slows down if someone is merging into the lane next to them etc) then there is 'boy racer' (people in thier civics and stuff basically driving in neutral and revving the engine and treating each red light like they were at a drag strop..with a slow ass car ) then we've got our blue haired friends.. I know there is more that I cant think of.. so what kind of driver are you? I find i'm usually norm…

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will push the limits again with the world reveals of two more vehicles that thrill – the 2007 Eclipse Spyder and the Concept-CT MIEV – at the upcoming 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. The company is building its strongest product portfolio in history, launching six new vehicles in less than three years, including the all-new 2006 Eclipse, Raider mid-size pickup truck, and now the ’07 Eclipse Spyder. “The Eclipse Spyder and the breakthrough Concept-CT continue the excitement of the brand and demonstrate new design directions and potential future technologies,” said MMNA President and CEO Rich Gillig…

(Admin note: I was able to find the 2002 in my local copy of the old C&G database. It is appended on this post - Avant1963) Since CSpec asked for them, here's a redux of the prior years' editions of Cheers and Jeers, the customary end of year summaries of all that is good and well and bad and ugly with GM and C&G. I've deleted all the links to the threads since they're dead anyway. The premier 2002 edition of Cheers and Jeers is lost in cyberspace forever with the old forum boards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers and Jeers for 2004 Time for the third annual list of the best and worst of GM and C…

First, take a G6, deform the roofline to make it bland and make the taillights look ugly. Slap on a Vauxhall (or to-be Saturn) grille on the front. Add H badges to taste. Ta-da! Didn't know Honda loves GM so much these days... I just see so many similar things.

Sirius seems to have some better talk stations, but XM has a better variety in music (from what I can see in the 3 day trial). Also, with XM I can sign up using a US address and get ALL the channels. Because of Canadian laws, if you sign up to the US service you miss out on a bunch of them.

Time for some brutal honesty. It's not secret that I'm dissapointed with the Buick lineup as of late. I personally think it sucks. The "fresh" names are lame, the two sedan, one SUV and pair of crossovers is completely retarded & the even worse is the lack of the following: - Affordable sedan (Century) - Personal Luxury 'Coupe' (2dr Reagal) - RWD cars (Regal ) - Bold Styling (last gen Riviera or Park Ave Ultra) - Supercharging or turbocharging, it used to be a Buick trademark - Names that have their roots in Buick history not "masturbation" in French. And the list goes on. But I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you my o…

My sister was rear-ended by an Eyewitness News truck late Friday night while merging onto a local highway. After the initial impact, the car was pushed sideways and eventually off the road completely. Thankfully, my sister is fine. Unfortunately, my car wasn't so lucky. The left rear quarter and entire driver's side underwent severe damage as a result of the initial impact. The suspension underwent minor to moderate damage and at least one of the right wheels was bent upon impact with the curb. Notable replacements will/would include both left taillamps, the gas tank, one or both of the right-side wheels, and the left-side mirror. I'm not sure if the dr…

I just had my first ortho consultation. I decided that, with the flex spending plan at work, I would pop for braces this year. My uppers are right on. My lowers are crowded. I got this consult because only some dentists can do the Invisalign. He said it would take 12 months + up to 2 or 3 more months. The cost is $ 5600 for conventional ones (which he recommends for me) and $ 6300 for the Invisalign which will take 18 months. YIKES. I definitely need the remaining 2 consults. Two girls who work in my office went to the same, but different, ortho for quite a bit less money. Any of you gotten braces PAST your teenage years? Costly? Was it painful?…

Also, went to Argentina and Uruguay (where it's summer) during Thanksgiving week instead of going with my mom and brother to a condo in Bend, OR. That was a slam dunk. Where would you have gone? Duh. This Friday, a long chapter in the history of Volkswagen AG ends when the last air-cooled motor will be hoisted into a vehicle seen as a museum piece almost everywhere else across the planet. VW is being forced to change the minivan's historic rear-mounted engine because of a new Brazilian emissions law to reduce pollution that goes into effect in 2006. Production {of the van] will continue next year, but the van known here as the "Kombi" will get a new water-cooled motor and a radiator for the first time. Turns out the parking brake was frozen on. The lever went down, but one of the wheels was stopped and sliding around on the ice in the parking lot. Had to have it towed to a GM garage, where they fixed it as a "warranty issue". So the question that comes from all this is: Is there any safe way to wash your car in the winter and not freeze things like the doors and parking…

I've noticed that it slows down a lot here on the weekends and not just because there is less auto news or things to talk about so I thought I'd ask this question. I'm thinking a lot of you post on C&G at work, which means (gasp) you aren't being as productive as you could be.

I dont suppose anyone, or their parents, have some rental properties in Metro Detroit? Specifically Troy, Auburn Hills, Southfield or somewhere close to those places? Ideally we'd be talking about a 1BD or studio apartment.

Given that my G6 is not in, I had to renew Cavy's plates, i.e. emissions test. I went to the PBG dealer I got my G6, and while doing the stuff I sat in 3 cars: Lucerne CXS, G6 GTP and Solstice. Here are my comments: Lucerne: Fit and finish is really nice, but the top of the dash material can really do better. Feels extremely rough to touch. Others such as seating surfaces are very plush and top notch. G6: Surprisingly I find the dash material here is better than the Lucerne. Except that there are some slight hints of cheap plastics (e.g. the lower part of the door, the centre console), otherwise I give it a pass. It's not exactly soft to the touch, but very sim…

Razorba - the shaver for backs! December 13, 2005 Stand in front of the mirror when you get up tomorrow morning and you’ll notice more than a few reminders that man descended from the apes – an unhealthy disposition when threatened and a liberal sprinkling of hair are the most obvious. Males of the species range from growing hair on their heads to hair all over their body and personal grooming preferences often necessitate shaving some or all of this hair regularly. We’ve already covered the shaver designed specifically for shaving heads, and now there’s an equally ingenious shaving accessory for shaving your back – until now, everybody has had to employ the indulgence…

My brother in law is a state trooper. Last Friday, he was working a DWI shift (overtime). Basically, the Fed gov't has provided block-grants to the states so the states can provide troopers overtime to work extra shifts and crack down on DWI's. Last Friday, my brother-in-law had a drunk run a red light and smash into the front fender/driver's door of his squad at an estimated speed of 50mph. My brother in law had a broken clavicle and was knocked out by the blow. The Crown Vic's don't have side airbags - so he likely hit his head on the side of the door. The radio in his squad was damaged by the blow, so he had to use his sholder radio. He was …

I don't live in Canada (obviously) and haven't visited there before. I'm aware of the obvious differences in currency, standards of measurement, government and all of that but I was wondering if Canadians were terribly different from Americans intellectually-speaking. You know, personality-wise and the like.

Okay well I just can't help myself I'm so dog gonned obsessed with this whole four door hardtop thing that I had to share some of cool google finds with you. I find redeming value in some of the ugliest, plainest or otherwise unexciting cars if they have a hardtop greenhouse. I've decided to dedicate a thread, THIS ONE, to pictures of just four door hardtops of all makes and years. Forget those retarded "4-door-coupe" Mercedes Benzes that have no concept of reality... this is as sexy as a four door car will ever get IMHO. P.S. for obvious reasons I've tried to post only pictures where all four windows are rolled down. B) Something Olds Somethi…

I know manufacturer-owned dealerships are out of the equation due to state franchise laws, but what do these laws actually say? Is it possible for a manufacturer to own and operate its dealerships if it buys up all of its franchisees?

Bitchin' article that tells whiny parents to STFU and actually parent. Video games aren't the devil. --- Reality Bytes: Eight Myths About Video Games Debunked Henry Jenkins MIT Professor A large gap exists between the public's perception of video games and what the research actually shows. The following is an attempt to separate fact from fiction. 1. The availability of video games has led to an epidemic of youth violence. According to federal crime statistics, the rate of juvenile violent crime in the United States is at a 30-year low. Researchers find that people serving time for violent crimes typically consume less media before commi…

Okay, so I go into the kitchen to make myself a ham sandwich. As I'm walking out of the room, a piece of ham falls and hits the linoleum. Okay, fine. Go to rinse it off and the piece I'm holding onto decides to rip off and the ham falls into a bowl from dinner. Scrumptious. New piece of ham, please.

Ok, so I'm browsing Ebay for ideas on a classic car restoration... So far, I'm looking at '66-'70 Eldorado (top of list) Chevy Biscayne Olds 442 or holiday coupe Also, the Corvair caught my eye once I looked at pics of the engine...... how is it mounted? I cant seem to make sense of how the engine sits or how it is configured.... all I see is a pulley right in the middle with the shaft runing into the floor.... it seems like the engine is under the floor??? I also found one on Ebay that is Turbocharged????? did anyone know they made those? http://cgi.ebay.ca/Chevrolet-Corvair-Turbo...1QQcmdZViewItem

Here's something to try, if you're looking for something a bit different in a weekend breakfast: Preheat oven to 375 Peel, core and slice two apples, your choice of variety (I used gala apples this a.m.) Place apple pieces in a baking dish Very lightly dust with flour (thickens the resulting juice so it clings to the apples to enhance flavor) Add a couple small pats of butter to stave off scorching and soften the sauce Sparingly sprinkle with brown sugar or honey (the apples are plenty sweet, just a little bit will be enough) Sprinkle with powdered ginger and cinnamon to taste Top it all off with a couple of tablespoons of real bacon bits …

I've recently did the head gasket on my Saab 900 Turbo last week end with my dad. He has outfitted himself with all the necesary air tools in the recent year and has allot of other tools he has had for a long time too. I got a set of air tools with a 5.5 hp electric compresor with 8 galon tank for x-mas this year. We realy enjoyed working on the car together and we both have a passion for cars. We joked arround about doing up a restoration on a big v-8 powered classic or simmilar. Well, I will be seeing allot more of my parents soon due to recent changes so I am seriously considering starting up a big project car with my dad. So far, some of my interests would …
