I couldn't find an existing Jan car spotter thread (we really need a single, continuing thread for this topic, like the Word Association one, I think). This morning on the commute down town, sitting at a light at an intersection of two 6 lane streets, I saw a dark green Bullitt Mustang on one side, and a black Challenger SRT8 and white G8 GT opposite...they really stood out, what a great design contrast with the bland, soulless FWD generica and SUVs that clog the streets....

I was driving through the Nissan-Saturn dealer today to see if they had any SKYs (they didn't) and I notice this orange 350Z convert sitting there with a sticker in the window. It read "MSRP: $39,xxx Reduced: $38,xxx" and I had to do a double take to make sure it was actually $39k. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I think that's pretty rediculous. I'd take a SKY Redline over that any day and pocket the extra $10k. Hell, that's almost as much as a base Corvette! (granted not a convert - but still).

ADELAIDE, Australia - An Australian farmer held hostage in Mali for 12 days by a gang of men who had posed as an online love interest has urged others to be careful when seeking romance on the Internet. Des Gregor, 56, traveled to the West African nation last month to meet his supposed bride, whom he had met on the Internet, and collect a dowry of gold bars worth $85,000. But when he arrived, the wheat and sheep farmer was abducted by a gang of armed bandits who bound him, beat him with a machete and stole his cash and credit cards. SO i was browsing through Volvo's website lookin at that cool new C30... well i decided to look at the S40... the 2.4L I5 NA engine that it has in it makes the EXACT SAME power as my nearly old 2.4L I5 NA engine. Now THATS PROGRESS! 10 years later its the same exact engine. The only difference is that the S40 gets a bit better mileage than my car, and im assuming thats because the S40 is smaller/lighter and has a 5spd hooked up to it instead of my 4spd.

Went to the Philly Auto Show tonight sans the wife (little one's sick, so she stayed home with him). She knows I've been waiting for this show to arrive, so tonight around 5PM me and my 11-year old (Anthony) headed over to Philly to check out the show. Good thing is she still wants to go, so we'll all be heading over again next weekend Anyway, I was able to sit in the only SKY they had there (a black one). I do have two pics to prove it, but to not get anyone in trouble, I can't post them until the show ends next weekend. It was a pre-production model with 26 miles on the clock. Now the funny thing about this was this happened to me last year. I was able to get mys…

2006 or 2007 Buick Rendezvous... yay or nay? I've been looking at some used vehicles online and the wife said she really misses her 2003 Buick Rendezvous and would like me to find a used one to consider (admittedly, it would be a good family hauler, and I'd get the Pontiac as my car). If your aware of any issues with these vehicles, have information to provide, or just your advise/opinion/thoughts, I'd appreciate you posting here before I go look at one!!

This year I am taking part in https://www.facebook.com/gentlemansride to raise funds and awareness for men's health and prostate cancer on behalf of the Movember foundation. Prostate cancer affects more men than any other cancer, taking the lives of 307,000 men each year. That number is surpassed by 500,000 men dying from suicide. That's 807,000 men every year. This is a number that must change. Please reach out and give what you can; help support me on my ride by going to https://gfolk.me/DrewDowdell and donating. Thank you, Drew.

I was reminded yesterday of an idea I had a while ago, and thought I'd share. This does go in the far-fetched idea category, but I kinda like it, so here it is. A while back, I was thinking about what Cadillac in particular could do to differentiate itself in the luxury brands, and it occurred to me to start pondering... What is the greatest luxury? Leather? A nice audio system? Powerful engine? Navigation systems and other gadgets? Nah. SERVICE! Think about it - what is more the picture of luxury: a guy with a fridge by his hot tub, or a guy with someone who will go get him a drink or whatever he asks (maid, butler, etc). Service is the greatest …

Yesterday I was going down the street to the strip mall to get a pizza for dinner, I saw this guy in a two door Tahoe. He was backing out of his spot at almost full throttle, and a lady in a Lumina was coming along and the Tahoe almost hit it. Clearly, the Lumina had the right of way, as he wasn't even half out of his spot, but I saw the moron in the Tahoe roll down the windows and start to cursing the woman. Rednecks... don't people these days have driving manners...

You know those surveys that maufacturers send you after you buy a car, and every time the dealer will pull out this card and tell you for a certain question about the dealership, they ask you to answer to be "Completely Satisfied" and claims it's very important, what exactly does that do to a dealership if you don't answer the "Completely Satisfied"? Just out of my curiosity.

So, I just found out today that my beloved 5500 and 7500 GMCs were replaced with 2 3500 dodge rams with the ISB cummins in them. I'm really confused how trucks that had GCVWRs of 26,000 and 36,000 lbs can be towed now by 3500 pickup.... and a Dodge too! Why not get a GM or a Ford truck... hummm anybody know anything about the big dodge, i read that they can only tow up to 19500 so thats why im worried, i think our big trailer is over 19500.

After a great day at work today, I was on my way home, heading west in the center lane of IL RT 58 in Schaumburg (traveling about 20 miles per hour … luckily), when a car streaked across the roadway from the right lane to the left lane in front of me … no warnings, no signals, nothing. I was too shocked at what the driver did to react (i.e. honk horn). However, the driver of the car to my left blared his horn. The driver of the offending car apparently thought I had honked my horn and dived back into the center lane in front of me, sped up slightly, and then slammed on his brakes. I saw the rear end of the car shoot upwards and I quickly hit my brakes, skidding to alm…

Plus, it's tough to find styles I like that match the offset of the Intrepid. There's a lot of nice 5-spoke designs...the funny thing is many are stock designs off of Lexus vehicles as well as some Pontiacs. So I've come across these a few times and they match the specs of stock intrepid wheels nicely, the price is pretty good....and they looks pretty good I think...but I'm still not sure…

Long story short took the Torrent and she now has over 6.5K on here up from the 2.5K she started out with. Fuel economy was good not great averaged about 23.25 if I figured right. Not bad for 75-80mph interstate running and climbing many a moutain pass. Handling was great for a small SUV and the back roads were very fun. Could use an extra cubic foot or two in the truck area other than that my Torrent made the trip nearly perfect. Except in Cheyenne WY my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I t…

We had the Buick and HHR for sale, and to my suprise the Buick sold first. It is now with an "older" couple who lost their 1993 Buick PA to a flood. I've decided to keep the HHR. It should make a decent ski rig with some Blizzaks (we'll see). The cost of sending it down the road for an AWD or 4wd vehicle just wasn't worth it. Especially at todays gas prices.

My friend teaches a Gifted and Talented program in her school... her student is a 5th grader (approximately 10 years old). He wants to know more about engines. I told her that's a very open-ended question, as there's a HUGE amount of information to know for each thing. What my question is, are there any good websites that might explain engines (starting with basic information, like OHV vs. OHC), but isn't too complicated to understand? Any websites that might have some animation to show the student about engines in motion, for example, pistons and their firing order, valves opening and closing, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm still keyed up on adrenalin as I type this. Around 2:30 this morning I heard a commotion outside my house. Next thing I know, I hear a couple of bangs and the sound of a sliding door opening. I figure he must have stolen them from somewhere. It was dark, but I could tell he was overweight, unshaven and wearing red and white pajamas. I tell her to pull into the nearest parking lot, and we do going like 5 mph. We pull in, I pop the hood, and there's some smoke coming from the tranny. I figure the clutch went. More info available at Green Car Report but to quote their story, the end result of what happens with the starter system on new auto's is as follows: What follows is his explanation of those technologies. (1) The gear ratio from the starter-drive pinion to the flywheel ring gear is optimized to make the starter's motor turn more slowly. This can be done without materially changing the design of the transmission or flywheel at all on existing designs. Crucially, this reduces starter-motor speed (in RPM), since 90 percent of starter-motor brush wear…

Dutch Mandel--GM Next: Why it will be around for the coming century By DUTCH MANDEL As General Motors looks toward its centennial celebration in September, today might go down in its history as the moment when its corporate life was saved. That's because its much-maligned chairman, Rick Wagoner, announced massive triage measures aimed at keeping the patient alive. His message should resonate from Wall Street to Main Street. Wagoner and his creditable management team--led by no-nonsense COO Fritz Henderson--addressed all areas of the business. Yes, GM made some "easy" calls. It will hasten to shutter plants it targeted earlier in the year for closure; those facil…

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! We hope you’re all either with your moms, on your way there or plan to give them a call shortly. Whatever you end up doing today though, don’t do what this lady does when her parking space is stolen but an apparently clueless or careless driver of a Honda Element. See the full video here

If there are any Nielsen families or anyone who knows Nielsen families on this site...urge them to watch Reunion on FOX 9pm Thursday (following The O.C.) because this show needs a ratings uptick if it is to avoid cancellation (cancellation has been announced, but might be rescinded if ratings kick up). If anyone has been watching it, you know it's actually a pretty good show that is a casualty of a competitive timeslot and piss-poor marketing/scheduling on FOX's part (pre-empted by Pres. Bush for its third episode, delayed for a month by baseball...no wonder it didn't catch on). So yea...I love this show and don't want it off the air before the murder my…

At Christmas time I saw a young cousin of mine, she recently graduated college and has taken a job as a teacher. We got to talking about vehicles, and she said she wanted to get a new car... a Highlander Hybrid. She has a mid-90's Camry now, handed down to her from her parents. They also have a Sienna and an '05 Camry that we just finished repairing today after my aunt had an accident. I went to pick up her dad, my uncle, so he could take the Camry, and he mentioned that she has factory ordered a 2010 Equinox in Mocha Steel with chrome package and the brown leather interior. I knew she was a smart kid. Now I'd like to see her parents trade up to GM next time around.

I just started a summer job this week doing office work for a law firm. It's literally a 9-to-5 job. It has it's ups and downs but the days go by pretty quickly. I don't have the capability or time to access C&G while at work, so I'll start trying to catch up on the news better when I get home.

While looking around GMs FastLane web site, I came across this awesome story covering GMs military concepts that have been created to meet the needs of our armed forces. Some of them I could see being wanted by the public such at GMs Silverado Duramax Diesel Hybrid system where the Diesel motor can also serve as a 30kW generator. This could so be useful during storms when the power goes out to your home. Check out the cool pictures and info here.

Out of sheer boredom/curiousity, I was just reading the ingredients of my Irish Spring Waterfall soap and it has "Ultra-Marines" listed as one of them. Don't know what those are... But anyway, this is some good-smelling soap. B)

http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/journal/?p=13606#more-13606 What a great show! Bob Lutz is so focused. So on target with specifically what this industry and specifically GM needs to accomplish to be successful. I have to say while watching the show I was overwhelmed with each and every point made during the discussion. Its taken me three times of listening and I am still learning more and more about what Bob Lutz’s statements contain. I really am looking forward to June when I can buy Bob Lutz’s new book “The Car Guys vers the Bean Counters” The Battle for the Soul of American Business. The passion and balance of the Ying and Yang! Gotta love it! JB
