Link to Article and Pics at Autoblog For the past two decades, the only thing consistent about Ford's Lincoln division has been its inconsistency. To put it lightly, the brand has struggled to find it's place in the automotive landscape. The vehicles from Ford's premium domestic division haven't had a coherent look since the early '80s. Several of its models, such as the LS and the Navigator, have sold well at times, but the absence of a Lincoln DNA hasn't helped. In 2006, North American Design chief Peter Horbury set about changing all that. He gave his team the task of examining past Lincolns to determine what set them apart. The first new model intended to set Lincol…

I didn't see it posted anywhere, so I figured I would. For more pictures, Clicky Per my opinion... I'm actually aspiring to own a Hyundai. The dip of the window is very odd... but overall it looks nice. As well, who can hate on an affordable compact RWD coupe? The production version shouldnt be much different going by all the pictures out there of it. As I said before, I look forward to being able to see it in person.

Auto show season is upon us and that usually means that leaks are bound to happen. Case in point is Road and Track which published, and subsequently pulled an article revealing the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V. But this being the age of internet, Road and Track's info and pictures made onto to other sites (like the one you're reading). The car shown here is very much the same that spy photographers caught only a few weeks back. However these studio shots give us a much better look of what to expect. The front sports a mean look with black mesh grille and heat extractor on the hood. Around back is a spoiler and a set of quad exhausts. Those looking for a bit more aggression will b…

The updated 2019 MKC will not be Lincoln's only debut for the LA Auto Show. Yesterday, the automaker released a mysterious teaser video revealing that another model will make its debut on November 28th. We possibly know what that model is thanks to some leaked photos. A video made its way onto YouTube with a slideshow of photos of the updated MKX or what it will now be known as the Nautilus. Like the MKC, the Nautilus gets a new rectangular grille from the Navigator and LED headlights. Like the Continental, the Nautilus features nameplates on the door. The interior appears to be unchanged for the most part. We'll have more details on the Nautilus later today. …

At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto show today, Lexus unveiled a three-row version of their popular RX luxury crossover. The RX has been one of the best selling luxury vehicles since its introduction in 1997. To make the 6 and 7 passenger three-row version, Lexus stretched the vehicle 4.3 inches and used a steeper rear glass to improve headroom. Overall, the key look remains largely the same with the partially blacked out C-pillar, a now widespread industry styling trend, being the main visual distinction for the 3-row models. Powertrain hardware is largely unchanged for the L models, available in the standard V6 front-wheel drive, V6 all-wheel drive, and V6 Hybrid all…

Los Angeles - Lexus unveiled the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible at the LA Auto Show today, ending speculation over whether the model was actually coming or not. Typically when manufacturers make a convertible version of an existing car, significant weight penalties crop up as structural bracing is added to preserve rigidity. Lexus was able to move supports, and bracing to produce a convertible with only minimal weight gain while maintaining structural integrity. The LC Convertible’s suspension is tuned specifically to complement the subtle changes in weight between the two platforms, as a reduction of un-sprung weight in the front suspension improves the overall stro…

The MKX is gone. Well, the name at least. Last night, Lincoln unveiled the 2019 Nautilus. Before we get into the vehicle itself, we need to talk about the name. The Nautilus will mark the end of Lincoln's confusing "MK" nomenclature. Part of the change comes down to the launch of the Continental sedan. People like actual names for vehicles. "When we launched the Continental, I think we underestimated how much affinity there was not only for the name but the fact that people like to associate names with cars. This kind of connection consumers have, especially to American brands and names, we felt like is something Lincoln could own. It's something we…

Los Angeles - At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Lincoln introduced the Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring, a plug-in hybrid trim. Based on the standard Corsair, the Grand Touring's powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The combined output based on Lincoln's calculations would be roughly 266 horsepower. Electric All-wheel drive powers the rear wheels. EV range is targeted at 25 miles EPA. Power is conveyed through a PowerSplit electric continuously variable transmission with two electric motors working together to provide very smooth acceleration. In addition to the five modes normally av…

Los Angeles - The Mazda CX-30 originally debuted at the Geneva Auto Show in March of 2019. Now Mazda is bringing it to the Los Angeles for U.S. consumption. The CX-30 is the latest vehicle on Mazda's new generation of vehicles that are getting complete makeovers to feel more luxurious in spite of their price. Slotting between the tiny CX-3 and compact CX-5, the CX-30 takes on a Goldilocks approach of not-too-big not-too-small. It has more of a coupe like roofline than the other two as well. Mazda paid special attention to the interior with a comfortable and luxurious cabin. Engineers focused on reducing noise, harshness, and vibration to create a serene space fo…

At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show today Mazda fully unveiled the re-engineered Mazda 6 sedan. Visually, the Mazda 6 is quite familiar to the current model, but Mazda was hard at work under the skin. The biggest news of course is the addition of the 2.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine sourced originally from the Mazda CX-9. This engine, new to the 6, produces 310 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm and 250 horsepower when running 93 Octane fuel. Horsepower is reduced to 227 on regular. The base naturally aspirated 2.5 liter 4-cylinder has cylinder deactivation where the two outside cylinders shut down when the vehicle is operated at a steady speed between 25 …

So far this year, Mercedes has introduced us to the new E-Class sedan, the AMG-lite E43, E-Class wagon, and E-Class All-Terrain. All we need to complete this year is the full-blown AMG model. Mercedes has obliged us by releasing the details on the 2018 E63 that will be debuting next month at Los Angeles Auto Show. Let's get to the most important part first, the engine: A twin-turbo 4.0L V8 producing either 563 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (E63) or 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque (E63S). This will come paired to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift multi-clutch transmission and a special version of Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system known as 4Matic+. This syst…

Went to LAIAS today. GM impressions: Volt is awesome. Decent crowd around it. Interior looks good, and the exterior is awesome. Taillights look cool, kinda like the neon Lincoln Mark VIII in the way they glow. SAAB had a concept that looked cool as hell, but it won't be produced. The production SAABs with eyebrow headlights look sick. Lots of attention there. Pontiac G6 were the 2009.5 (labeled as just 2009 though), but the upgrades are well worth it. The window sill in the back (at least the coupe, all I had time to sit in) is still Fisher Price, but the other interior upgrades make this car at least presentable. Fascia updates are an improvement. This s…

Nissan released refreshed versions of their Nissan Maxima sports sedan and their Nissan Murano Crossover at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show this week. Both vehicles move to Nissan's latest version of the V-Motion styling theme. First up, the 2019 Nissan Maxima goes on sale in just a few weeks. The updated V-Motion grille and signature accent lighting contribute to an aggressive style. Styling inside is mostly carryover, however, some new materials and finishes have been added. On the safety front, the 2019 Maxima adds available Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of 6 driver assist technologies that help to avoid a crash. Safety Shield 360 includes Automatic Emergenc…

Previous Page Next Page Almost half a year has passed since Porsche introduced the second-generation Panamera to the world, the German automaker will be introducing two new Panamera variants at the LA Auto Show. First up are the entry level Panamera and Panamera 4. Both models get a new 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine producing 330 horsepower, an increase of 20 horsepower over the outgoing base V6. Porsche says the new engine is also more fuel efficent, though fuel economy numbers were not revealed. Second is the long-wheelbase variant dubbed the Executive. A day after electric-car startup Rivian revealed the R1T truck, the company has rolled out their second model that will be arriving in 2021. The R1S SUV utilizes the same skateboard platform as we detailed on the R1T with the battery pack, electric motors, brakes, suspension, and advanced thermal-management system. Battery size and power output are the same as the R1T, but the R1S gains about 10 miles in overall range. 105-kWh: 402 horsepower, and 413 lb-ft of torque, range of 240+ miles 135-kWh: 754 horsepower, and 826 lb-ft of torque, range of 310+ miles 180-kWh: 700 horsepower, and 826 lb-ft of torque, range of 410+ miles For those interested i…

Stop me if you have heard this before; Rivian, a start-up electric automaker is planning to reinvent the various vehicle segments it plans to enter. But unlike most start-ups, Rivian hasn't dropped any sort of vaporware in the form of concepts or teasers. Instead, the company has been quietly working on a production-ready model that will be debuting later this week at the LA Auto Show. This is the R1T, a futuristic-looking electric pickup truck. The front end features a unibrow-like central light bar (acts a charging meter by changing green when the truck is plugged) and a set of oval headlights. The back also uses a unibrow-like light bar that wraps around the tailga…

The COVID-19 pandemic has possibly caused another auto show to rethink their plans. According to Automotive News, organizers of the show are planning to delay the show from November to next May. Three sources tell the outlet the new dates are May 21st to 31st. Two of sources go on to say that an announcement could come this week. Automotive News tried to get comment from Terri Toennies, president of the show, but did not reply. By possibly moving the LA Auto Show to May, automakers and organizers of the New York and Detroit shows find themselves in a difficult spot. The LA show sandwiches between New York (April) and the revised Detroit show (June), which may ca…

Ahead of the LA Auto Show next week, Scion released details today of their Scion iM concept. The iM is a 5-door hatchback with looks that Scion says are inspired by the European racing circuit. The concept rides on 19" forged wheels surrounding 4 piston callipers with front vented disk brakes. The suspension is height adjustable. What this means to you: The Scion iM concept is based on a car sold in the European market as the Toyota Auris. Toyota swapped out the logo for a Scion badge. Expect a direct carry-over of the tamer Toyota Auris to be sold here in the US without the body-kit and wheels shown on the concept. The Scion iM concept will debut at the LA Auto Show …

Well, the show got off to a pretty interesting start. Rick Wagoner's MPG keynote was remarkable for two reasons. First, he did a great job crystalizing GM's efforts on the alternative fuel and fuel consumption fronts. No one in attendance should now doubt that GM is - or will soon be - a leader in this area. It was ironic, then, that the other most interesting aspect of his speech was a demonstration by environmentalists while he was still up on the stage. The demonstrators at first seemed to disenginuously try to present themselves as representatives of the automaker. They stated Mr. Wagoner would be making an important announcement today - a pledge to make GM the…

Please post your impressions too, if you have some! Line up the troops Impressions never cease to cement a picture in our minds. My picture of GM after attending the auto show in the biggest market in the US, Los Angeles, is of an improving, yet ailing automaker, desperately in need of shedding a stodgy, outdated image and of growing appeal outside of a core market of nouveau rich, the truck market, and conservative traditionalists. Demographics of those around the GM stands could easily be generalized into those three categories, but it would be ignoring the fact that GM’s latest slew of product is drawing in new clientele: I even saw a group of Asians looking at one o…

Last week, we reported on a CARB document providing some details about the upcoming Subaru Crosstrek Plug-In Hybrid. The document said the model would return "an electric range at 25.650 miles based on the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule - replicates city driving conditions." This is similar to the Toyota Prius Prime which lends its hybrid system to the Crosstrek. But we found ourselves a bit skeptical considering the Crosstrek is heavier and uses an all-wheel drive system - things that reduce range. Hopefully, Subaru would provide some details on it when it arrived at the LA Auto Show next week. But Subaru has decided to surprise us by unveiling the Crosstr…

Everything is bigger in the U.S., even concept cars. Take for example the Subaru Viziv-7 Concept that debut today at the LA Auto Show. Looking like a more musclar Toyota Highlander, the Viziv-7 is massive. Measuring 204.7 inches long, 79.9 inches wide and 73.2 inches tall including the roof rail, the Viziv-7 stands out in terms of size. Details to be aware of include a bold hexgonal grille, foglights integrated within the wheel arches, and a similar window design to the Outback. Subaru hasn't released details about the Vuziv-7's interior or powertrain - though it is safe to assume it has the company's symmetrical all-wheel drive. We do know this concept is a preview t…

Los Angeles - Chevrolet thinks that you don't want a Cruze anymore and instead you'll buy an SUV. Enter Chevy's answer for that, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer starts under $20,000 and for those taking notes, that's less than the current Chevrolet Trax even though the Trailblazer is the larger vehicle, fitting between the Trax and Equinox in size. Themed after the larger Blazer, the Trailblazer looks wider in person than its specs suggest. Powertrains match the Buick Encore GX on which this shares a platform. Powered by either a 1.2L turbo or 1.3L turbo 3-cylinder engine, the Trailblazer will deliver up to 155 horsepower. Both engines are mated with a standard Con…

Toyota's recent run of concepts have been showing more adventurous side; the FT-4X in New York and the TJ Cruiser in Tokyo. This trend continues at LA with the introduction of the FT-AC. The Future Toyota Adventure Concept “is perfect for those outdoor enthusiasts who want to dial up the adventure on their weekend getaways.” It certainly looks the part with an aggressive front end featuring a chunky front bumper with tow hooks, sculpted grill surround, narrow headlights, and foglights that double as detachable portable lights. Volkswagen will be trotting out the I.D. Buzz Cargo concept at this week's L.A. Auto Show with a bit of a twist. The concept already made its debut at commercial vehicle show in Germany earlier in the year. But Volkswagen has given the concept a fresh coat of paint and outfitted it to be a support vehicle for VW's I.D. R Pikes Peak electric race car. The cargo variant of the Buzz is about four inches longer in overall length when compared to the standard Buzz, allowing for more space to store stuff. The exterior is quite flashy with racing numbers, graphics, and a track outline of the Pikes Peak course. The interior has been fitted with a full set of shelves to…

Let's be honest for a moment. The current Volkswagen Passat is about as interesting a looking a white wall. But we have to admit Volkswagen has been able to give Passat some style with the introduction of the Passat GT concept. The exterior features a number of cues that you would find on the GTI such a honeycomb grille with a red outline, LED headlights, smoked taillights, and bumper treatments. Power comes from a 3.6L VR6 engine with 280 horsepower paired with a six-speed DSG transmission. A new e…

LA AUTO SHOW: Volkswagen Tiguan Concept Los Angeles marks the eagerly-awaited debut of the new Volkswagen Tiguan in "concept" form. From the looks of things, if you scratch the orange-trimmed tires and the similarly-patterned leather seats, you're basically seeing what the car's going to look like when the wraps are pulled off the production version in Q1 2007. Far more conventional than the rakish Concept A that introduced some of the car's exterior (the front end) and interior design language, the Tiguan still looks to be a nice entry-ute for VW. The "baby Touareg" flavor works. Full Article/Images/Press Release
