The 2006 Pontiac Pursuit GT coupe is at the dealership. I looked at it up close and personal. I have to say it looks very sharp. It's tailights have a large chunky round housing within the red lenses....rear looks especially good. It has the 2.4 litre engine, rated at 171 hp and the interior is essentially the same as the Chevy version. There are no plans to offer a supercharged one...odd when Pontiac is supposed to be the performance division. Again Pontiac has so many contradictions with it's image. I asked for a brochure. They didn't have them yet...huh?.....GM does not have the coordination set up to have the brochures there prior to the new model's arri…

In the new Autonews, there is a little blurb about a small Pontiac: "Does General Motors' Pontiac division need a small, entry-level car in the United States? Marketing Director Mark-Hans Richer says an entry-level small car is a 'top candidate' on Pontiac execs' wish list. But GM's vehicle line executive for small cars, Lori Queen, says, 'We're not working on that for Pontiac.' Pontiac is well-served by having the Vibe hatchback as an entry-level vehile, rather than entering the crowded small-car segment, she says. Pontiac offers a small entry-level car in Canada called the Pursuit. But Queen says the Pursuit is unique to Canada.&quo…

In the new MT, there was a short interview with Lutz as a compliment to the Solstice article. Here's what Lutz said: "If you could have a magic wand and have a four-door version, then maybe strech the architecture and have a sort of a BMW 3 Series, that's what the Pontiac guys want. We have to pick out investments and allocate our engineering assests carefully, but that's their desire." So it sounds as if Kappa CAN be streched, it's just a matter of whether they want to spend the money to do it or not.

Suddenly thought of this idea. Anyone think the Solstice can see some law enforcement uses? For example, a rugged version for use in highway pursuits as to replace the departed B4C Camaro? After all it's rear-drive, light, and packs a punch under the hood.

I was checking out a great car book today. The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975. The Olds 98 back then was priced above the Buick Electra. I thought Buick was above Olds. The Olds must have compteted on some level with the Lincoln Continental. I really think that may have been Olds & Buick's key to success provide Lincoln levels of luxury at Mercury Prices. Cadillac was #1 in luxury because, Ford's Continental luxury brand and Chrysler's Imperial luxury brand were short lived and never really had the aura that a Cadillac does. Who said that something was the Continental or Imperial of something, nobody. Only the word Cadillac means the best. Th…

GM will build 7,000 Solstices this year Pontiac has 13,000 orders; Del. plant will speed up line By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / September 05, 2005 http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=54368 PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nearly half of the customers who have ordered the new Pontiac Solstice won't get the roadster until next year. General Motors expects to build 7,000 units this year, Lori Queen, GM's vehicle line executive for small cars, said at a press event here. GM has 13,000 orders for the car. Queen says production should speed up in the next 30 days. Solstice production started in mid-July at GM's Wilmington, Del., plant. The automaker…

http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/090501.html Pontiac's Bright Light Creating the Solstice The executives at General Motors have been talking about building "gotta have" products for the past few years. The Pontiac Solstice is among the few that actually deserves that appellation. By Gary S. Vasilash, Editor-In-Chief -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can a single low-volume car help generate levels of enthusiasm for a brand? Apparently, the answer is "yes." When asked what he thinks the Pontiac Solstice will do for Pontiac, John Larson, Pontiac division general manager, answers without reservation, "…

The US should get the Pursuit. I know, I know. Pontiac isn't about economy, it's about performance. Hear me out. The problem is that the US and rest of world are about to enter a permanent geology-driven energy crisis that will make the political energy crises of 1973 and 1979 look like blips on the radar screens. Google "peak oil" for further explanation. Within a year, Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealers will be howling for a low-priced, high mileage sedan as buyers get more practical. SUV and V-8 sales (even with DOD) will stagnate. GM should be working on getting a 1.8L (or smaller) engine available for the Pursuit (and Cobalt) that will get at least 3…

I did not see this but had a coworker who went to Hot Import Nights in Clevleand last week. He reported a lot of modified Cobalts and other cars at the GM dsisplay. He did say they had a Turbo Solstice at the GM display. I do not know anymore than this so if the GM display is around someone please take a look and see if it is there.

Darell and Carolyn Fenn, accepted delivery of the roadster-style Pontiac from Holm Automotive Center, 2005 N. Buckeye, at about noon Thursday. The car was one of the first 1,000 sold that involved a high profile promotion on the television show "The Apprentice," said sales manager Chris Eckert. Fenn became aware of the new Pontiac when he …

Automotive News / September 05, 2005 Pontiac's new Solstice is sure getting a lot of buzz. Mostly, it's good buzz, but not all. After Solstice buyers openly complained on General Motors' FastLane Internet blog about slow shipments of their convertibles, GM responded. In a posting titled "About the Solstice" last week on FastLane, Tom Kowaleski, GM's vice president of communications, apologized to Solstice buyers for delays in delivery. "Sorry if we are frustrating you; believe me: We are just as eager to get these cars on the road as you are," Kowaleski wrote. He said GM is taking extra time "to make sure all is just right. …

 I don't know for certain If this board is the place for my question but I'm hitting brick walls every where else, and I should at least be able to find an answer to the negative. I'm trying to determine if there is any other engine that can effectively or reliably be replaced in a 2001 Saturn LW2 V6 3.0L. For reasons too ridiculous to go into I need to have the engine replaced a second time: no warranty. I can't find a 2001 Saturn used or rebuilt any where. I live in WV and money is a REAL object. I've got a good mechanic with computers and all that, but having Saturn do the work as they did in the first case is out of the question for …

What a Concept: Solstice gives Pontiac—and GM—a much needed shot in the arm ROGER HART Published Date: 8/29/05 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE ON SALE: Now BASE PRICE: $19,995 POWERTRAIN: 2.4-liter, 177-hp, 166-lb-ft I4; rwd, five-speed manual CURB WEIGHT: 2860 lbs 0 TO 60 MPH: 7.2 seconds (est.) FUEL MILEAGE (EPA COMBINED): 23.6 mpg Ever since it was revealed at the 2002 Detroit show, the Pontiac Solstice has been more than just a car for General Motors. As we know, Pontiac’s new performance lineup wears the suffix "GXP". Before this, however, the Grand Prix proudly wore "GTP" to indicate its elevated performance capability (whether or not you consider the GP GTP a "performance car" is not important to this discussion). I find myself wondering, why did Pontiac not simply adopt GTP across the lineup? My reasoning is 2-fold: first, GTP was already an established name for Pontiac, recognized by at least some in the field- the GP GTP has a good-sized following and great aftermarket support. Next, "GTP" actually means something- Grand Touring Prototype, meaning a race car built spe…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...ine.promo.2.*#7 Send in the Clones By John DiPietro Date posted: 08-18-2005 Badge engineering. No, it's not the art and science of manufacturing emblems shaped like bow ties or blue ovals. It's when a carmaker introduces a vehicle that's essentially a clone of an existing corporate model with minor styling changes, such as a different grille, taillights and, of course, badges. Nowadays there are even Saabs based on Subarus and Chevrolets. As long as it's not done to excess, badge engineering makes sense. Having a couple of slightly different looks for the same basic vehicle can work. It allows manu…

By James B. Treece Automotive News / August 26, 2005 http://www.autonews.com/news.cms?newsId=13156 TOKYO -- Mazda Motor Corp. is predicting that Europe will replace North America as the largest market for the redesigned 2006 MX-5 Miata. It blames the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters. With fewer competitors to contend with, the Miata sold more strongly in North America, says Daniel Morris, Mazda's senior managing executive officer in charge of marketing, sales and customer service. That is no longer true. Now the MX-5 will have to take on General Motors' new roadsters. The 2006 Solstice went on sale this month. The Sky follows in the spring.…

Saturnfans.com "...A father recently called the Saturn customer service center. His daughter's car had had broken down on the highway – she was alone, away at college and rang her dad for help. So he called us. The Saturn customer service representative spent a few moments soothing the anxious dad, and then began taking the information: name, phone numbers, location, type of Saturn. The man said, "Her car's not a Saturn; she drives a Honda." The service rep said, "The car's a Honda? Sir, are you aware this is the Saturn customer center?" and the caller said, "Yes, I am. You're the company that cares about people and that…

On the Pontiac page, they put the Torrent as a "Future Vehicle" when I just saw a dealer today with several Torrents in stock. On the other hand, the Solstice is a "Current Vehicle" when nobody has them in stock.

Lets get the Hummer thread going. Since I just found out PM elluded to the program with a simple drawing here is what they are refering to. The programs is the 2009 GMT-913. Here it is. The "current" SUT cab on the 900 2500 frame using a "stock" GMT 900 bed. No major styling changes to the current design. I am told with little modification the cab will bolt to the 900 frame. This will be an added product to the current Hummer portfolio. This will be a quad cab pick up. PM has it a little wrong but you get the idea from the Jim Dunn rendering. It appears Hummer is going into the premium PU market. I elluded to this program before the boards…
