Take a look at my avatar. Right click, view image to see the bigger version. This is a picture of the hood ornament on my '91 Olds Custom Cruiser. I was recently informed that this is the incorrect ornament for the car. Sooooo, while I'm in the process of getting the correct one, I'm wondering what car (or more likely cars) this one belongs on. I like the design of it so I'll have to keep it around for something. TIA!

Anyone see the new Saturn commercial during "The West Wing" Sunday night? Watching the show on TiVo, I nearly skipped past it. It featured a napkin drawing of the Saturn Sky which morphs (very well) into a blueprint and then into a clay model, and then into a production Sky moving at highway speeds. The commercial ends as the Sky passes between the updated 2007 Saturn Vue and the new Saturn Aura.

GM cuts jobs, production at Orion factory Sales for touted Pontiac G6 slip amid intense competition; output will be reduced in April. Brett Clanton / The Detroit News Not everything Oprah touches turns to gold. Lukewarm sales of the new Pontiac G6 sedan, featured by the talk show host in a massive giveaway last year, have prompted General Motors Corp. to cut production of the car beginning in April. GM said the Orion Township plant where the car is built will reduce G6 output by more than 10 percent and lay off an unspecified number of workers. Workers at the factory said they were told last week that 250 to 400 people will be laid off across two production sh…

As I was checking out the Opel / Vauxhall website I noticed some cars that could be really hot here (though not all of us on this board would be into them). Corsa - perfect for people who look for high gas mileage Agila - Great for those foreign car buyers into boxes (a new hit item, xb?) Meriva - Perfect scion, small Japanese product fighter (xa?) Astra - We already know about this beauty Zafira - Definite West Coast hit for small families especially with the high gas costs of today Vectra - We already know we are going to get this, but what about different variants? Tigra Twin Top - This would do to Saturn what the Miata did to Mazda Vivaro - It mi…

http://www.courtesyonwheels.com/big_ed.php Take a look at the top-right-hand box. A new Solstice for $29,999, plus tax and license. Why is it that dealers feel the need to circumvent GMs efforts to sell an affordable, desirable roadster by tacking on $10k+ onto the damn sticker?! I've got half a mind to go down to Courtesy, ask how much one is and make a point to laugh in the salesman's face. I really hope no one has bought a Solstice at that price. Ugh!

Saturn slips into Opel's orbit Lutz: 'Saturn will be like Vauxhall' Dave Guilford Automotive News / March 6, 2006 - 6:00 am GENEVA -- Saturn's future looks a lot like the present-day status of General Motors' British subsidiary, Vauxhall. Vauxhall slaps its badge on cars created by GM's German subsidiary, Adam Opel AG. That's what Saturn will do, at least in the heart of its car lineup, GM executives said in interviews at the Geneva auto show. The move is meant to bring European design flair and sporty handling to Saturn. But it's also a sign of GM's move to strip regional and brand executives of authority to modify global decisions in engineering, design and manufa…

Local car producer Holden has recalled more than 120,000 cars to fix a problem with the side airbag system. Holden today said the recall involved 89,167 cars sold in the domestic market and 34,552 export vehicles built in Australia between April 2003 and December 2005. The list included Commodore, Statesman, Caprice, Monaro and Crewman models sold in Australia and similar vehicles sold in various countries, badged as other brands and models. Holden said the recall only affected cars fitted with a side airbag system as a standard feature or an optional extra. The full story

Attention Dealer Operator and General Sales Managers, On February 13, 2006, GM announced that it will be introducing a Pontiac small car for retail sale in the U.S., effective MY 2007. This small car will be named the Pontiac G5 and is the same vehicle that GM sells in Canada as a Pontiac Pursuit. The G5 will be available in the U.S. in SE and GT models and as a coupe only. To maximize communication and production efficiencies with the U.S., GMCL has made the decision to change the name of the Pontiac Pursuit to Pontiac G5 effective MY07.

Souped-up Pontiac G6 fails the luxury test By Paul & Anita Lienert We've been eagerly anticipating a test drive in the 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP, the performance-oriented edition of the slinky mid-size coupe. In some respects, we weren't disappointed. But the apparent lack of attention to detail, especially in the cabin, was a major letdown. We tested a well-equipped GTP with nearly $4,000 worth of options and a bottom line of $27,250. SHE: What a stylish exterior! And that electric blue metallic paint is really eye-catching. But what a comedown to step inside the G6 and look around that flat and uninspired cabin, with the cheap materials, trim pieces that didn't fit …

Ok, we know the Ion is being replaced by... something. Astra, something else, whatever. What I'm not quite clear on is the timeline for the rest of the Ion's life. The Ion production line at Spring Hill was slated for shutdown. Has this already happened, or is it yet to come (and if so, when)? Is Ion production being moved to Lordstown OH, or not? What do we know will happen when?

Here are more pictures I took at the Chicago Auto Show. They're not that great. The lighting around the Aura display was really bad (it wasn't that great at the Sky display either) and went from being dark to being really bright and was playing tricks on the flash on the camera. Oh, well, the Aura still looks great and I can't wait until it debuts in New York and for production to begin on July 24, 2006. BTW, the first Auras are on the assembly line. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71909

I thought it over and this is my idea (from small to big): Solstice Roadster - RWD 2-seater roadster. As-is in the 2006/7 model, including the GXP version. Probably some performance bumps on each. Solstice Firebird (I don't know why I like this name, although it'll probably get Firebird fans angry) - Essentially a Solstice fastback coupe, a slight focus on trunk space to make it practical. Same trim levels as the roadster. Saturn's rebirth vexes Chevy dealers Leslie J. Allen Automotive News / February 20, 2006 - 6:00 am Saturn dealer John Bergstrom is facing an unexpected dilemma. Weeks before the Sky roadster hits the showroom, it is generating so much buzz that he has started a waiting list at all six of his stores. "Sky is just a flat-out home run," said Bergstrom, chairman of Bergstrom Automotive in Neenah, Wis. "I've never had that before. They've never even considered a Saturn." Waiting lists are unfamiliar for Saturn, sometimes dubbed the brand for people who don't like cars. General Motors is pouring money into the 16-year-old marque, hoping that a new arsenal of Euro-look ve…

Humvee's replacement may be a hybrid Posted Feb 16th 2006 9:30AM by John Neff Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative, SUVs The current military-issue Humvee will be replaced by 2011, with contracts being awarded to suppliers sometime in 2009. At the moment the Army and Marine Corps are researching hybrid drivetrains for the Humvee replacement, with the Army conducting research on six different hybrid Humvees and the Marine’s testing the RST-V (Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Targeting Vehicle) that employs electric motors in each wheel hub, just like Mitsubishi's Concept-CT unveiled at the Detroit auto show. Hybrid technology is particularly attractive to military types beca…

Room to Grow Hummer looking at options for new entries to lineup By RALPH KISIEL | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/20/06, 1:08 am et ORLANDO, Fla. -- Hummer is considering at least two new models. Today's models are the H1, the H2 and the smallest Hummer, the H3, launched last year. "My team is working on a couple of new entries for the Hummer portfolio," said Susan Docherty, Hummer marketing general manager. "We think that Hummer can definitely grow." Hummer is never going to have a minivan, Docherty said after talking to dealers at the make meeting. "But we have other places we can go," she said. "We could go smaller. Solstice surges past Miata in roadster race Automotive News / February 6, 2006 - 6:00 am For 16 years, Mazda's MX-5 Miata has been the world's top-selling entry-level two-seat roadster. With more than 700,000 built, the Miata has knocked off British Leyland's venerable MGB, produced from 1962 to 1980, as the most popular roadster ever. But the Pontiac Solstice is off to a strong start, and is far outpacing the newly redesigned Miata. In January - the first month of full availability for the Solstice - the sleek Pontiac roadster nearly doubled the Miata in sales, 1,990 to 1,067. It was the same story in December, when the Solstice clobbered the Miata, 2,746 to 1,007. …

It's easy being green By Rex Roy Date posted: 02-13-2006 Kermit will tell you, it isn't easy being green. But automotively speaking, that's about to change. Turn the key in the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid and it drives like a well-sorted, peppy crossover. That's exactly the point. GM Powertrain engineers weren't trying to save the world with technology that takes a postgraduate engineering degree to appreciate or operate. People like Steve Tarnowsky, the assistant chief engineer of GM Hybrid Systems, simply wanted to build a hybrid that made sense to buy and drive. Balancing technology and value "We think we've hit a real balance between technology, fuel e…

Pontiac will get Cobalt-based entry-level coupe, lose Montana minivan By JAMIE LAREAU | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/12/06, 3:18 pm et DETROIT -- General Motors will give Pontiac an entry-level coupe as a stopgap measure until the division gets more brand-focused products, sources close to Pontiac say. These are the only ones I am considering. If they don't change the LaCrosse grille in 2007 to look more like that of the Lucerne, I will get this car. Have rented 5 to 10 of them thus far and put enough miles on GPs to take me from LA to NY. Thus, it's a car I can live with. I really feel the lighter colors are more flattering for this car. I don't like any of the others and don't want the silver because I have it now. Would go for a light metallic blue but it's not in the fold. These are the choices. Please chime in.

I realize that this is an enthusiast forum, and the Vibe isn't exactly an enthusiast car, but my wife is driving one right now and we've found it to be a good compromise for space and mileage for hauling around our son and his accoutrements. I've read "future vehicle forecasts" noting that the Vibe was due for a redesign for the 2007 model year, still as a shared product with Toyota but I haven't really heard anything otherwise about When the new model will debut. Anybody have any scoop about what the next Vibe will be like? I'm sure it will still get a Toyota engine, but man I'd love to have the new turbo ecotec in a Vibe GT.

The seats in my 93 TA did not rip a little on the side bolster until about 155,000 miles. It was red, just about two minutes ago. I took the Solstice for a spin, hopped on the eway to "air dry" it and bam..I look over see this red car approaching. Not a bad looking vehicle at all. It was obviously a GM vehicle, I hit the on ramp at 80 but when I saw the SKY I hit the brakes just to catch a glimpse. Not bad, although I still prefer the sexy lines of the Solstice to the bulkyness of the SKY.

Bad news about the g-6 convertible. You can't access the trunk with the top down. You must put the top back up to get something out of the trunk. They should have copied Saab's design, or made it with a cloth top. Too bad, it's a nice looking car.

I've noticed that GM has changed a few things in the Aura concept to make it closer to the production model. Here's the original concept, shown last winter, followed by the Aura on display at the SEMA show a couple of weeks ago: Original Modified The differences are slight, but they're there. For instance, the original had a digital display at the top of the stack, which has been replaced with a basic airbag indicator light: Additionally, the genuine titanium accents on the instrument panel have been replaced with a gray plastic:

I almost purchased a Pontiac G6, but opted to get a used car instead. I would like to see Pontiac ditch the old pushrod engine in favor of the newer 250 hp DOHC VVT 3.6 liter V-6 that they're giving the Saturn Aura. Naturally, it should be mated to either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed "sport shift" automatic transmission! :) Why don't I just get an Aura then? Well, I don't want the big goofy smiley face grin that they gave the Aura's nose, or the awkward looking headlight assemblies that are twice as big as they should be. I think the G6 is a much nicer looking car. But both the 201 hp 3.5 liter and 240 hp 3.9 liter OHV engines are ge…

Anyone know if GM plans to make side mirror body color covers for the G6? I'm finding the black mirrors on my car more and more disturbing.

I'm asking because I just saw a Nissan commercial for the Murano touting it as the "first smooth SUV" with a CVT tranny. So did the CVT never make it into the VUE? Or is the VUE considered a "rough" SUV?

Well since there's no Pursuit down south, that makes the G6 coupe to be the smallest coupe that Pontiac has. Should they make a 4-cylinder version instead of just the GT and GTP until a new coupe arrives? I myself is all for a 4-cylinder G6 :D

MotorWeek Solstics vs MX-5 Quick Comparison For 15 years the Mazda MX-5 has reigned supreme as America's favorite roadster. No other drop-top has been able to match the MX-5's pure sports car bang for the buck. But for 2006 there's a new kid on the block, the Pontiac Solstice. So let's hit the road and the track to see if the new Solstice will complement the MX-5, or crush it. The Mazda MX-5 has never had any real competition. But with the arrival of the new Pontiac Solstice, a head to head roadster battle is a certainty. But which one of these slick 2-seat drop-tops is the best? And more importantly, which two-seater is right for you? As the reigning champ among aff…

FOR RELEASE: 2006-01-18 Saturn Revitalization: Product and Marketing Jill Lajdziak Saturn General Manager Hyatt Regency Hotel Thank you. And thank all of you (to audience) - for inviting me to share a little bit about what marketing means at Saturn. Before I discuss some of our specific tactics, I want to spend just a couple of minutes to share with you where our brand is headed - so you'll clearly understand the approaches we're taking. First, it's important to understand that Saturn is positioned as a conquest brand within the General Motors portfolio of brands. This past year, Saturn Retailers delivered more than 200,000 cars and SUVs to some …

Any plans in the works for a refreshed or completely remodeled Grand Prix? I'm not super fond of the current model. Sometimes I like it, but others its just so-so for me. I'll be in the market for my next car in about another 1.5-2 years and will be needing a 4-dr, but want to retain some sportiness and power. Grand Prix and Impala is about all I got in the right price range and size. Neither really screams to me, but maybe a new style would. I really miss the Bonneville now that I've paid more attention to the GXP(?) models of 2005. I keep hearing 'G8' getting thrown around, will this be the Grand Prix replacement or a step up the ladder(Ala Bonneville replacement…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...ine.promo.3.*#2 It looks suprisingly classy and uptown (is that even a word?) in gray... I think it'll be brilliant in Alpha trim with the 5.3L V8 (GMT900's 325 hp? GMT360's all-alloy block and DoD?), six-speed automatic, and larger alloys. Since it weighs less than the Tahoe, it might even get ~17/24 EPA MPG... ----------------------------------- A truck in sheep's clothing By Kelly Toepke Email Date posted: 01-19-2006 As the trail gets steeper and steeper, rougher and rougher, all I can think about is the proximity of the nearest cell tower, and how I will describe our location to the rescue team. Did anyone else see the saturn commercial last night that showed the all new Aura mid-sized sedan. It didn't look too much different than the concept but the headlights were smaller (a vast improvement in my opinion!). The car was shown along side the newly redesigned Vue and all-new Sky. Anyone elses thoughts???

Ok, many car companies have decided to dip into their history and make new models out of old designs...why not saturn? I was thinking the Saturn 90's series....take the late 90's coupes and sedans, completly update them but give them the same feeling because many saturn owners love their 98 sl2 or 96 sc! So why not redo those models and reintroduce them? I donb't know, its some very random idea that I had last night

http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive...html?page=2&c=y Look down the bottom of the page at that GTO. Has anyone ever seen that before? It doesn't seem like a concept because it states that it WILL be made in the US and that Pontiac finally made a proper revival. I think that is probably one of the sickest concepts I have seen for a GTO yet, any thoughts?
