Hummer: H1 is done for; H4 being studied for 2009 Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am H1: The big, military-inspired H1 has been dropped. Sales in 2005 totaled just 374 units. H2, H2 SUT: With the demise of the H1, the biggest Hummer is the H2. The H2 will be restyled and re-engineered for the 2010 model year. It will be developed on the GMT900 full-sized-truck architecture. The smaller, lighter-weight vehicle is expected to start production in July 2009. H3: Hummer's smallest SUV, built on GM's compact-pickup architecture, is likely to get a 5.3-liter V-8 version for the 2007 model year. A crew-cab version is likely for the 2009 model year. H4: GM is con…

Saturn: A new kind of Aura Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am Ion: Production ends in March. Astra: General Motors is expected to replace the Ion with an imported model, a rebadged Opel Astra. The 2008 Saturn Astra is expected to go on sale at the end of 2007. A sticker price of about $16,000 is likely. That would be nearly $3,500 more than the 2006 Saturn Ion 2 sedan, the base model. Three- and five-door models are expected and possibly a four-door model. The U.S.-bound Astra likely will be built in Antwerp, Belgium. Aura: The Aura sedan is arriving at dealerships. The Aura is built on the current Epsilon mid-sized architecture. But it is the lead vehicl…

Again, at the Show n' Shine, I came across a brand-spankin-new AURA XR in beige with the Moroccan Brown interior. While the colour is bland, the Opel styling influence makes this car look more expensive than it is. The chrome detailing in the taillights is especially nice. While the wrapper will get it noticed, the interior will sell this car. The leather is absolutely delectable. I'd eat it if I could. While the radio and steering wheel are the same old song n' dance, the materials are easily the nicest in any car GM has ever sold at this price point. The gauges look really cool, and the rear seats are really roomy. I don't think I've ever seen front seats with such big …

HUMMER TV Ads Aim To Unveil "Surprising Truths" About The Midsize HUMMER H3 DETROIT -- HUMMER next week introduces a series of new television ads intended to continue the momentum of the H3 launch and convey some “surprising truths” about that vehicle. The ads play up the H3’s fun factor, while also touting its smaller size, maneuverability, low price and fuel efficiency. “Escape” tells the story of three office friends who go to great lengths to escape the daily grind of their cubicle-filled office on a quest for fun outdoors in their HUMMER H3. The spot was inspired by the epic 1963 adventure film "The Great Escape," featuring the legendary Steve McQueen. Movie af…

Final 500 Collector's Edition Page I say 'wealth' because, let's face it, there's not much about these cars, especially the Bravada and Silhouette. For example, there were only 360 'Final 500' Silhouettes made as the capacity was needed for the other vans. I hope to own one of these cars someday, even if it is a Silhouette. They mean something. Well, at least to me.

I think the 90's Bonneville (92-99), especially the 1996-1999 were the best years for this car. Although I have not had the pleasure of driving one yet, I hope to soon as I am considering a 96-99 SSE/SSEi to replace my '91 Cutlass Supreme Coupe. THE INTERIOR STYLING is my favorite part of this car. I love the way the dash has that aircraft cockpit feel to it, how it slopes down so gracefully from top to bottom. In pictures, this looks completely different. This looks more like a design from 1997 than 1992! And the fact that it can be so sporty AND have all the room and comfort of a Park Avenue is amazing. The 12 way seats, the Red (with green accents) lighting, the…

http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...20of%20Contents General Motors plans to add a second European-built model to Saturn's product lineup in the United States. The next-generation Opel Vectra wagon will be imported and sold as a Saturn, senior GM sources in Europe say. The target is 50,000 units annually, beginning in 2008 or 2009. The mid-sized wagon will be assembled in Ruesselsheim, Germany, using GM's next-generation, front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform. Interviewed at the British Motor Show, GM Europe President Carl-Peter Forster said "a final decision has not been made" on exporting the Vectra wagon to the United States. But Forster said the plan would be…

High fuel costs, its affordability save Saturn Ion August 11, 2006 BY KATIE MERX FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press High gasoline prices seem to have saved one small car from the chopping block -- at least temporarily. General Motors Corp. had planned to stop production on the Saturn Ion in December. But the carmaker confirmed Thursday that it will continue making the car at its Spring Hill, Tenn., plant through the end of March to meet market demand. "It gets good fuel economy and it's affordably priced," said Jim Hall, vice president of industry analysis at AutoPacific. "It would be foolish of them to get rid of it." The I…

New Corsa for Europe, not US By JULIAN RENDELL AutoWeek | Published 07/25/06, 1:01 pm et Link to original article @ Autoweek.com Saturn desperately needs a good small car, but it won’t be based on the European-built Corsa hatchback from General Motors’ Vauxhall subsidiary. That was the word from the recent British International Motor Show in London, where the global launch of the all-new Corsa was backed by a high-powered visit from GM headquarters by CEO Rick Wagoner and vice chairman Bob Lutz. GM product czar Lutz said the new Corsa wasn’t engineered with the United States market in mind, so it won’t pass crash tests: “It would take two years and be too expe…

Edmunds Full Test: 2007 Saturn Sky Beauty at a Price -------------------- By Mike Hudson Email | Blog Date posted: 08-02-2006 At the age of 11, before the 2007 Saturn Sky was a twinkle in Bob Lutz's eye, a young soon-to-be writer was hauled by his father to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With dad, older brother and the young upstart fighting 100-degree temperatures, the adventurers trudged along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in search of beauty. Here it was: a sight of crashing waves, striated stone and unblemished flora existing as one entity in a display of brilliant, haunting confluence. A symphony hall and art museum had arisen in the woods miles from…

So I found it weird that the G5 was on the consumer Pontiac site but not on the press site. It turns out pontiac just used the August 1 embargo date on the G5 because that was the date for other GM embargos. Although the 2007 Cadillac SRX also got moved up from the Aug 1 date. That leaves the silverado. Anyway for more on the G5 check out http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2006/07..._coup.html#more

AN ALL-NEW Monaro is coming. Mike Simcoe, the man who crafted Holden’s VE Commodore and the VT-based Monaro - and who is now in charge of exterior design for all GM North America cars - has uttered the words Australians have been longing for: "It will come." However, it will not be seen until bread-and-butter model derivatives such as utilities are built, meaning a likely arrival date of late 2008. The Camaro has been touted as a possible successor for the Monaro-based Pontiac GTO. But Mr Simcoe, who is responsible for the design of future Pontiac cars (as well as those from Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Saturn), was adamant that despite sharing a common platform, the …

The Saturn Aura disappoints this fan of Opel styling and features combinations. As much as I love the Aura and GM's "promise" of Saturn being Opel with merely different badges, the truth disappoints me. Why? Although the styling is there, features, engines, and transmissions seem to not be. The Vectra has no OHV engines. The Vectra has available Xenon headlamps, and as far as what has been gleaned, no such option is yet available on the Aura. I want an equivalent. What about the rest of you?

Aura hits the pages of Motor Trend -------------------- Part of Saturn's "Like Always. Like Never Before" ad campaign, the three-page spread features a Golden Cashmere Aura XR. The Sky and VUE Green Line are also featured, though it's safe to say Saturn's midsizer steals the spotlight. The ad elaborates on the theme that commenced with Saturn's latest T.V. commercials, and more importantly, it proves that GM's initial press-photography failed to capture the Aura's essense. Judge for yourself. Our Take: Look closely, that's the car some have dismissed as a Sebring knockoff. As seen on page 15 of this month's MT:

On the whole, Tony Swan thought favorably of the GTP convertible, saying that despite its flaws (body flex, torque-steer, overweight, gritty powertrain, rock-'n'-roll cornering), "[$30K] is an attractive price for an attractive boulevard cruiser with four-season usefulness." Tony Quiroga added "the G6 gets a passing grade because the rest of the class brings the average down, so what would usually be a nearly failing grade is slightly above average." Highs: Zoomy good looks, room for four, quiet in coupe mode, smooth ride. Lows: So-so performance, hints of cowl-shake, miniature trunk. The Verdict: A …

I just saw an Aura convoy today here in Milwaukee by the airport...very strange. There were probably 8-10 of them in a row being escorted by the police. They all had Michigan manufacturer plates on them. I was shocked at first, but quickly pulled along the side of them to check them out. I must say, not being much of a Saturn fan, these cars had a classy, crisp, clean look to them...they'll do well for sure. I thought the sides really looked good...like it had a classy upscale look. Anybody have any idea what they were doing here? And I noticed one with the saddle interior...it really stood out!

not much time so I'll expand tomorrow but its was ok. overall the cheap interior leaves a bigger impression than the generally good ride, handling, and power. -cabin noise is pretty tuned out but the nice exhaust burble is there. I still like the cammy sound of an ohc over the rumbly small block but in this case i thought it sounded great. -good steering although you can tell the front tires are WIDE -very very little torque steer even when i hammered the throttle. any magazine that says this car has torque steer quite honestly didn't test the car. My Aztek has more torque steer probably. -tapshift is cool but kinda pointless with only 4 gears -the cheapne…

THE last VZ Commodore sedan will roll off the production line at Holden's Elizabeth plant today, making way for a new generation large car. The first saleable VE Commodore will be built at the plant before the end of this week and the car will be officially revealed for the first time on Sunday. "We're down to building the last few VZs which closes off an exciting chapter of Holden's history," GM Holden spokesman Jason Laird said yesterday. Mr Laird would not reveal how many of the new sedans would be made daily but said the production line would be ramped up gradually. Only a sedan version of the VE Commodore will be made at this stage. It will be built alongside …

G6 "Traffic Stop" Ad Looking good, and the car's not too bad either. -------------------- Feast your eyes on Pontiac's "Traffic Stop" ad campaign to be aired in Spanish-speaking countries. The ad features a G6 convertible, and while the idea behind the commercial may be better than the execution, producers certainly got the casting right. Hopefully the car itself won't be outshined by the police force. See it here

Walking to a meeting through Times Square and i couldn't believe it a New Aura drives right up to me with Michigan plates. I'm from Detroit so i'm used to seeing pre-production cars but not in NYC. Anyways the pics are not great, they are from my phone. Funny thing is that these guys who look like "ROCK STARS" walk out and all these guys came and help them out. I'm not into Rock so i had no clue who they were i just took two pics. LMAO the funny thing is that this guy came up to me and told me to stop taking pics, he thought i was taking pics of the people but i was taking pics of the car!! Sounds like one of those lame commercials. Anyways the car looked HOTT it was blue…

I was just thinking. I may have a decent idea for the firebird's return. -everyone envisions the 'bird and camaro as big cars, this is because of the definate shift to smaller cars from the sixties. few remember though that at the time, they were both the SMALL sporty cars in their respective lineups. -I believe that the firebird, in this respect, would be ideal on a kappa. I (a firebird owner myself) would love to see a hardtop kappa reworked and badged a firebird. I dont have a problem with two seats since the original back seats were near useless anyway, but to please the purists it might be possible to wait for the NG kappa when gm can work in the extra row of…

I have a 2006 G5 Pursuit sedan that I like very much except for a couple of things. The opening into the trunk is too small and I think there is excessive wind noise at highway speeds. I have taken it back to the dealer and they have adjusted the doors, but it has not made any difference. If there is anyone out there that has experienced the same problem I would like to hear from you.

Hey guys, Im new here but have been lurking for a good 2 to 3 years. I thought Id mention that I happened to come across what looked to be a Pontiac Torrent GTP. It had dual exhaust on it, different front fascia and also had the zebra camo all over it. Looked really sweet. Has anybody heard anything about this yet? If it is still there on tuesday, Ill take a pic for everybody. It is being stored inside, not outside, so it may be pretty hard. _______________________________ 2006 Pontiac Solstice # 1715 18 year old owner

Well the Saturn Aura is on the roads here in Michigan. And they are what looks like to me as close as you can get to a production car. I have been a skeptic of the Aura but now that I have seen one in person, up close, I have changed my mind. They look very nice and I dare say elegant! The interior was everything that the pictures show. And yes the wheels need to be changed, a little boring for my tastes. But all in all if I were to be shopping for nice family sedan I would consider one of these.

GM plans to replace Saturn Ion with Opel car Rebadged Astras will come to U.S. at end of 2007 Harald Hamprecht | Rick Kranz | Automotive News / May 8, 2006 General Motors plans to import rebadged Opel Astra compacts to replace the Ion at the bottom of Saturn's lineup. The imports, starting at the end of next year, will sticker at about $16,000 - approximately $3,500 above that of the 2006 Saturn Ion 2 sedan, Ion's base model. Ion production is scheduled to end in December. GM declined to comment. But sources within GM and its Opel subsidiary confirmed an outline of the plan. Last year GM sold 100,891 Ions. That car follows the S series, which sold 200,000-plus …

Any one hear anything about a Pontiac G5? The Shop chairman for the local UAW at the Lordstown plant said something about it. All that was said is that it will be an 07 and for the US market. This was all said in a public area so I hope this is ok to talk about.

See anything a bit different about this Astra? (this is the Vauxhall version, and the difference isn't that it's a Vauxhall) Look closely.... see it? Try this angle: I like it - make it a Saturn! Found it here: http://cars.ign.com/articles/712/712707p1.html BTW, one article I found on it said that it holds up as well as or better than a regular metal roof. Also good to note is that there is a shade that slides down to give cover over the extended part, and it looks like there are sun shades on it, so you wouldn't have to be blinded.

what would you guys think about a Hummer version of the new full size gmt900 pickup? of course it would only come with 4X4, with only two engines a gas/ethanol V8 and a diesel V8, with only a regular cab, 6 or 8 ft box, and a true off road package with heavy duty shocks, suspension and skid plates?? so it would be pretty much a pickup version of the next gen H2.. maybe even sell some to the military..

Well first of all the Saturn Aura is out of the picture because there is no Saturn dealership in my town only Saturn can do warranty work. Ok now the test drive the switches had a nice heavy feel to them inside on the inside and of nice quality. The ride and handling is better than My mothers Caddilac 2001 Deville the G6 is also quieter I went over railroad tracks without aplomb there was a curve that went left with a depression on the outside curve took it hard accelerating coming out of it took great. While I would wait till 2007 for the 3.6 for better fuel economy and I think the new aero kit will make it look better. Also test drove a Grand Prix not in same cla…

I've seen this car on the lots....but tonight I think was the first time I saw one live on the drive. I parked next to it at the Target. It was sharp! RED. Manual transmission. Tan/Black interior. High polished wheels and panorama sunroof. Love that car. Now I wonder why I didn't look harder at getting one. I think its just a hair smaller than what I want and honesly I think the car is a bit narrow. Oh, and the pushrod thing. Anyways, in red, a very sexy car. The big wheels do everything for the look. I was impressed someone bought a stick version.

He is one for all of us to work on while we wait for any new news. If Pontiac has to have a FWD car or two what can they add from GM's platforms that is much different from the Cobalt, NG Malibu or Aura? Pontiac needs a car that is more Pontiac than Chevy and will not steal sales from any other GM lines. AWD is off the table in this quest for now to keep it under 30K. The car has to be different and with a true performance nature [no slap on cladding or FX here]. It also should be directed at conquest sales from Honda, Toyota and Mazda. Price needs to be under 30K and can start at 18K. I'm not saying the G6 is a bad car but it is not stealing a lot of sales…

I know this issue has been beaten to dead quite a few times, but with the recent releases from Saturn, it triggered my mind to think about it. Wouldn't Saturn's current lineup fit Olds perfectly? Let's see: Outlook -> Replaces Silhouette, called Recon Aura -> Redesigned Alero on Epsilon, could be called Profile, but since Alero sold, name could be kept Vue -> Partially replaces Bravada (older Blazer based), could be called Expression Astra (if imported) -> Hatchback and convertible, called O4 Sky -> O4 Roadster The only thing different is that Olds will have Aurora as the flagship, redesigned on Zeta.

Throwing this out for discussion. The linchpin of GM's restructuring is incorperating it's worldwide engineering and design to avoid overlap and to save alot of money. Saturn is essentially becoming a US distributer of Opel. There will be unique models such as the Outlook that won't be sold over in Opel dealers in Europe, but the rest of the line will pretty much be identical, right down to the grilles. Saab is now made everywhere except Sweden (Cadillac's BLS is made at GM's Sweeded plant). What if you have a passenger car division (like, say....Pontiac). You have a successful model (the G6) and a car that's an established FWD volume car (say the Grand Prix), th…
