This car was supposed to be just a concept. Then it was decided, due to the overwhelming demand that a thousand production copies would be built. In the end, four years later, 8,000 copies came into existence. The doors are very unusual, while they were made unique in order to accommodate an unorthodox chassis, not unlike the 1955 M.B. SL300's, they were, in some ways the exact OPPOSITE of that car's "gull wing doors". Also, it had a SOHC powerplant. 170 H.P. Good Luck.

Okay here's another one of my crazy convoluted trivia questions. The car I'm thinking of has the following features. 1. it's a two door but not a coupe 2. there's a fixed B-pillar of sorts but not in the traditional sense 3. the rear windows roll down just like in a hardtop 4. To a casual observer it looks as if this car has 6 headlights 5. the manufacturer that made it is no longer around So who'll be the first to guess it?

This one should be easier ~ The great Henry Ford spent a good deal of time building his first car. There really was no choice- the automotive components we have long taken for granted (spark plug, carburetor, wheels, etc) to build one with did not exist and the science was still 'in labor'; not 'born' yet. Other major components (crankshaft, camshaft, pushrods, bearings, etc) had to be designed, then machined from scratch, from materials certainly not envisioned for use in a motor car. In addition, Ford had a full-time job and a small family. Having spent some of his teen years repairing watches, Ford was a known perfectionist, and he also took time to study (what littl…

This car predates Chevrolet's "Super Sport" moniker of 1961 but it's name is actually an acronym for "Super-Sport, Short Wheelbase" About three dozen were built, many of the lost over the years at the hands of race car drivers, yet more than twice that number exist today. more than half of them being replicas, some of the replicas using original parts. The most famous one of all is owned by someone who also owns a McLaren F1 & Bugatti Veyron. The brilliant engineer who designed it went on to found his OWN car company. The car in question has more LITERS of displacement than number of cylinders!

Many of you might have been wondering about the 1959 Buick in my recent signature. Or perhaps none of you give a damn. Either way if you're still reading this here's the scoop. If you have searched for "1959 Buck" or "1959 Electra" on Google in the past 9 months or so you have no doubt seen a faded blue four door flat top 1959 Buick sittign in front of a long gray building. The car is for sale, asking price is $5900 and as if just so happens it is only about 130 miles away from me at a place called Goldenrod Garage. The home page for Goldenrod promisses "300 plus classic cars at all times in the inventory". A no-nonsense race car driver & antique car…

The above young woman is not a random model, nor is the vehicle. Both are wearing delicate shoes (high strappy heels & chromed wire rims), and although this looks like a straightforward photo op of some forgotten occasion, both the car & the woman danced their way into the record book, that day, WITH their respective shoes on. What's the car & what was the record category?

Henry Ford's legacy, the present-day Ford Motor Company, was organized in 1903. In that this was Ford's 3rd automotive venture, finding more than a few initial investors was a bit of a task, but eventually 12 backers were found. One of the 12 was one Horace Rackham, who bought 50 shares for $5000. In actuality, he was one of the skeptics, and only put $3,500 in cash, writing a note for the balance. When Ford bought out his initial investors in 1919, how much was Rackham's 50 shares worth over the years in dividends & the sale back to Ford? A. $17,435 B. $174,350 C. $1,743,500 D. $17,435,000

2 part question ~ PART 1 :: David Dunbar Buick, prior to the founding of the like-named automobile company, was a partner in a successful firm manufacturing a number of items. Buick himself is credited with 13 inventions between 1881 and 1889, but one outshone the others to a degree, and was quite unrelated to automobiles. Name this invention. PART 2 :: Keeping the above answer in mind, name the General Motors Division that likewise produced a product (and name this product) that was rather unrelated to automobiles. In addition; this product is generally and readily associated with Buick's invention (tho there is no direct connection).

General Motors has a long & storied (and sometimes convoluted) history of involvement with railroading. Most know that Electro-Motive became a Division of General Motors, and thousands of locomotives & engines were built under the GM banner. One early strong connection to General Motors was instrumental in the development of an important safety system on trains, which was the standard for that system for decades upon decades. Name the person and the system involved.

Oldsmobile's new "small block" V8 for 1964 displaced 330 CID, right? It eventually morphed into 350, 260 and 403 CID versions as well (there may have been more iterations, but those be the only ones I can remember). Another (U.S.) domestic car brand had a 330 CID V8, but it only lasted one model year. Do y'all know which brand that was, and the model year?

Who am I? I'm a two-seater, quite sporty if I might add... (for the era) You could either buy me assembled from the factory or in KIT form. In this instance, a series of boxes would arrive at your doorstep in exact order, 14 packages total, when the first was paid for, the next would be sent, with the buildup theoretically done concurrently as the packages arrived, the assembly being feasible for the average man. And, my "windshield" was bolted to the steering column.

Let's see how many people get this right. This is the cover for an album from a rather obscure band. This band, who only released two albums throughout their entire career and disbanded shortly after their second album was released, actually managed to make a significant impact on the math-rock and post-rock scene, with artists like Isis and Dinosaur Jr. citing the band as an influence. First, what car did the band use for the album cover? Second, what band was it? Third, what was the title of the album? Fourth, where did the band originate from? :AH-HA_wink: Answers are on the cover itself, but I trust you not to cheat.

OK....so I have an advantage 'cause I was working in Buick Product Planning at the time....but here's some Reatta trivia..... HOW come the Buick Reatta never garnered a more responsive powertrain than the 165hp 3800 V6? The 2006 Camaro concept has incredikble styling, almost all of us agree about that. But now see how well you've really looked at it. Other than the b-pillar delete, hardtop bodystyle the Camaro has an interesting styling element that is virtually non-existant on today's cars. One of the last cars to have it was a FWD Oldsmobile. If you skew the definition of this component you might say there was also an Acura which was made in both 2dr & 4dr body styles that had this too. What feature am I talking bout? ------ ONE LAST HINT: This feature was most prevailant from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s.

I searched thinking there must be a thread on this in here but couldn't find it. Probably using the wrong search string.... oh well. I was recently looking up some info on Cars, the recent Pixar movie. EVERY car guy or gal should see this. Anyway, I was listening to some of the soundtrack and it got me thinking about just how many songs were inspired by our beloved GM. Most songs I know of are about GM models, engines, etc. There are a few about Fords. I'm sure there's gotta be some Mopar songs, though I don't know of them. I do not ever recall a song about a Honduh or TOYota. Okay, except "Pink Cadillac" which states that her (or his) love is bigger than a Hon…

Kind of obscure, but these popped in my head from things I've read recently... A well-known 40-something American actor has been a long term owner of a Buick Grand National. It was stolen a few years ago, but recovered I've read. He's famous for his outspoken politics, was once married to a famous musician. Can you name this actor? A well-known 40-something American singer owns a '77 Pontiac Can Am. He has fronted a couple well-known bands, in particular a '90s band associated w/ the 'grunge' Pac NW scene. Can you name this singer? Bonus, easy one: Well-known young singer w/ a modified Caddy CTS-V. Can you name this singer?

What famous race car had a engine who's supercharger was driven directly off the crank? One quick hint: It's displacement was such that each cylinder was more than a liter in size. Oh, and a famous celebrity now owns this car.

i remember reading this somewhere on the net or on this site. but apparently a politician, i'm not sure whether it was a govenor the president or just a senate or something, told Chevrolet to reduce their prices. And Chevrolet Responded that they couldnt otherwise they would ruin the competition, and put them out of business... i'm pretty sure these words were exchanged durring the 40-60's. but i'm not sure when or who said them... if someone knows plz post the quote correctly and date

Pre-Chevrolet Motors-Name Thee Companies whose cars the Chevrolet Bros. Raced before starting Chevrolet The teens-Chevrolet produced this innovation in 1917...well over a decade before Ford before abandoning it for several more decades. Hint-Chevrolet paced the Indy 500 the year this innovation came back out, and the pace car used this. (Chevrolet was not the first car company to build this, BTW) The twenties-This Massachusets company built "woody" bodies for 1920's Chevrolet Station wagons. This car is widely considered to have the MOST brightwork of any vehicle ever made. It is both beautiful and gawdy at the same time and the model that replaced it was very clean and unique, thus it got flack for being too plain and yet also got much praise for it's instantly classic styling. What two cars am I talking about?

Chrysler introduced the soon-to-be-popular 383 CID version of its wedge-head "B" series engine for the 1959 model year. Interestingly, a 383 "B" engine was also available in the DeSoto and Dodge lines for that year. Anyone know what the one big difference was between the Chrysler 383 engine and the 383 used in DeSoto and Dodges (aside from the obvious things like engine paint or stickers on the air cleaner)?

The current issue of Collectible Automobile magazine features the (domestic) GM cars of 1959. I haven't seen the article yet but if it's at all like past efforts from this magazine, it should be pretty good. They frequently show photos of the prototypes as they evolve through time. The technical details are usually good too. I have almost all the issues of this magazine since its inception back in 1984. For anyone who likes old cars and trucks, this is a fine publication. I know it's available at most of the larger magazine racks like you find in Borders or Barnes & Noble book stores. On edit: I know this isn't a trivia question but I also know there are sever…

For a short while, one marque featured a large, clearly-marked speedometer... A speedometer that could not be seen from behind the steering wheel. In fact, no one inside the vehicle could see the speedo. What am I talking about?? This is NOT some obscure, minimally-instrumented, brass-era flivver vehicle, either; it's post-war and well-known.

I mentioned this car in the Corvair thread, and then I found this pic. This was gem! I had traded in the Corvair for this 1962 Buick Special coupe, built to order as I mentioned before. I had a friend who had bought one of the first Skylark coupes, with the high-compression ratio. He was having constant problems with blowing head gaskets, so I wanted to avoid that issue. I bought the standard 155hp, 215cu. in. all-aluminum V-8(3.5L for you metric boys) with the 4-speed tranny and thew police & export options that I mentioned. I wrote to Buick and asked about getting a trailer hitch. I got a rather nasty letter back, which I still have, that they built CARS, …
