  1. Started by Alpha,

Hey Josh...um...about your DNS server updates you've been mentioning... Theoretically even as CheersAndGears.com becomes active again and that site still works, this will remain an active backdoor since it is a direct link to the server. It's simply knowing the name of the actual server under DNS, might be the best way to put it. So, it won't just "stop working" unless your host is a little odder than the ones I've worked with... You may just have to poke and prod people to move them over. The real problem comes in 6 months when they decide this server is overwhelmed and decide to move you to another and those who didn't update their book…

As a reader for a while now, I thought I'd post to say that the site is almost unnavigatable. Problem one is that everything spawns a new tab. I'd really be nice if everything kept to the same tab like the old forum did. It's nearly impossible to browse anymore, since I have to pick a forum (new tab), pick a subforum (new tab), then I can read threads in the same tab. To go to the next bit of reading, it's close, close, new tab, new tab. It's getting to point where it's almost impossible to see the great content on the site. That kind of leads me to problem two, though I suspect if problem one were solved, problem two would vanish. When I co…

I hope you are all enjoying the new look of the website. As I mentioned in the other thread, there will be another major update just ahead of the Chicago Auto Show. This update will change the structure of the site's article pages with the aim of making our news easier to find and modernizing our front page. One part of this change will go into effect as early as today - Currently, when we post an article, a topic is automatically created that contains the article as the first post plus the comments on that article. This is bad practice as far as the search engines are concerned as it creates duplicate content in two places on the same website. The change that I will …

  4. Mahindra & Mahindra Agrees to Buy Controlling Stake in Korea's Ssangyong By Sookyung Seo - Aug 23, 2010 2:46 AM CT Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India’s largest sport-utility vehicle maker, may jointly build new cars with Ssangyong Motor Co. if it takes control of the South Korean automaker. The two companies will work together and share technology, said Pawan Goenka, president of Mumbai-based Mahindra’s automotive and farm-equipment division, speaking to reporters after the two companies signed a preliminary agreement concerning the acquisition in Seoul today. Yes, Isuzu has announced that they will be leaving the United States light-vehicle market after 2008. Not that you might have noticed, of course, since their final two products are rebadged GMC models. Still, they did provide some cool stuff over the course of their stay with us. The Isuzu Impulse, for starters (either the original rear-drive version or the front-driver better known as the Geo Storm). Also the original Trooper, which may be lacking in design flair but has very good credentials as an off-road machine. And then there was the Amigo, as well as a very solid line of small pickup trucks (starting with the Chevy LUV and evolving from there), and Honda's firs…

Asians Go Green in Paris By Christie Schweinsberg WardsAuto.com, Sep 30, 2010 4:52 PM Asian auto makers’ Paris debuts have a decidedly green hue. Almost all Japanese or Korean manufacturers are rolling out hybrid- or battery-electric vehicles at the Paris auto show, which opened to the media today. The eco-friendly models include the production Toyota Auris HEV, Honda Jazz HEV, European-spec Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric vehicle and the concept Kia Pop and Nissan Townpod EVs. While not electrified, several other small, fuel-efficient cars also are taking their public bows, including the Hyundai ix20 multipurpose vehicle, Suzuki Swift subcompact and Toyota Verso-S,…

  9. Eliminate the Politics section as it is, and then have a section for debate. Have a moderated, intelligent debate between two C and G members on a specific topic. We could have a Peanut gallery thread, but most of those tend to be useless. methinks a section where the general audience could "cross examine" the debaters with a limited # of questions (say a limit of 3 per member) would be better... Just my two cents.

  13. Suzuki, Nissan, Daihatsu announce recalls in Japan Associated Press Tokyo -- Japanese carmakers Suzuki, Nissan and Daihatsu have recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles in Japan over separate defects, the Transport Ministry said this week. Suzuki Motor Co. recalled 432,366 vans belonging to two models -- the Every and Scrum -- produced from August 2005 to October 2009 over a design flaw in air conditioning parts that could cause a fire. Suzuki found two cases of partial fire damage, but no deaths or injuries were reported, the ministry said. Nissan Motor Co., meanwhile, recalled 76,415 vehicles from 10 models, including the Tida, Note and March, over defective wiri…

Proton Shows Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Lookalike Concept of Inspira with 240HP Turbo Engine FRIDAY, DECEMBER 03, 2010 The 2010 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show at the Putra World Trade Centre in Malaysia saw local automaker and owner of Lotus, Proton, revealing a host of concept models including a sport prototype of the recently launched Inspira called the Jebat. Needless to say, it's clearly inspired from the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X. 21. Merging Malaysia’s National Car Companies Hard to Justify, Analysts Say By Mack Chrysler WardsAuto.com, Aug 31, 2010 9:00 AM To unite Malaysia’s two national car companies or not; that is the question, but just how seriously such a move should be considered is unclear. Industry analysts believe a pairing of Proton Holdings Bhd and Perusahaan Otomobile Kedua Nasional Sdn Bhd (Perodua) would be awkward at best and hard to justify on several important counts. As national companies, both auto makers have been indulged and overprotected by the government for years, safely ensconced behind a wall of tariff barriers, tax exemptions, rebates, subsidies and other special…

IMO, this is a dumb policy. there are tons of 3-letter words to search for. I just tried to search for "Ion" (as in the saturn ion, but I don't care to search for "saturn ion", because posts may not have included the word "saturn" in them). Other terms I can think of off the top of my head include Geo, LS1, LS2, GMC... *edit* well frack, it's not just a limit on the length of the search, it's a limit on any individual term in the search. So I can't even search for "Saturn Ion" because "Ion" is less than 4 letters. Seriously? Wow...

First would be to commission a replica of the Exelero concept car on the chassis of a Dodge Viper. That'll set you back €550,000, or about $730k at today's conversion rates. Your other choice is to have Xenatec convert a Maybach 57 S limo into a coupe for €675,000 ($894k). We brought you initial news of the project back in May, followed by details in October. I have a number of changes and additions coming for you guys over the next 6 months. I installed a plug-in that will catch a bad email address and then flag your account for review. It will keep popping up a window until you re-enter a valid and validated e-mail address. The reason for this is that if we send out emails and they bounce, email servers begin to think we're just spammers or scammers fishing for victims, and then our valid emails end up in spam folders. By taking this step, it will prevent C&G from being labeled as a spam server. So, if you haven't updated your email address in a while, please do so in your profile to the upper left. If …

  28. German new car market to return to growth after sales decline slows in Sept. Automotive News Europe -- October 5, 2010 06:01 CET FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- After new car registrations in Germany declined at a significantly slower rate in September than in August, the VDA industry body said the German car market should return to growth towards the end of 2010. New car registrations fell 17.8 percent in September to 259,748 vehicles. Registrations fell 27 percent in August due to a high comparison with last year's month that was distorted by the country's scrapping scheme. Clubs can have their own topics, galleries, blogs, and calendar. You can literally run your own mini-forum inside of CheersandGears if you wanted. If you create a club, you can have control over its membership, appoint moderators, or have it be invisible to the general public (Admins can still see everything of course). Dollar's rise helps Germans Appreciation indirectly boosts value of their booming luxury car sales in China Christine Tierney / The Detroit News With the dollar up nearly 10 percent against the euro, Germany's luxury carmakers should be toasting a big jump in profits on their American car sales. But their Chinese business has proved to be even more lucrative. That's because Germany's carmakers traditionally hedge their currency exposure in North America and Japan to buffer the impact of currency swings. Similar to insurance, hedging protects exporters when currencies move in an unfavorable direction, but it also limits potential gains. As a result, Daimler AG, the …

  73. BMW, Mercedes see strong September sales Associated Press Berlin — Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz and BMW AG today reported annual sales growth of well over 10 percent, with both automakers' deliveries in China soaring. Mercedes-Benz sold 118,600 cars worldwide last month, an increase of 13 percent compared with a year earlier and the best September sales result in its history, Daimler said. Global sales at the BMW Group, which includes the core BMW brand, Mini and Rolls-Royce, were up 16.8 percent at 142,950. 74. TATA ARIA: INDIA'S FIRST CROSSOVER By Drew Johnson India’s Tata Motors is best known for making rugged SUVs – and of course its recent purchase of the Land Rover and Jaguar brands – but the off road-brand has just announced the launch of India’s first four-wheel drive crossover. Dubbed the Aria, Tata describes the CUV as “a luxurious creation with the finesse of a sedan and the muscle of an SUV all blended in one car.” At first glance, the Aria appears to be a Nissan interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class. However, the Aria has a higher ride height than your typical crossover, giving it the off-road chops of a traditional SUV. Inside the Aria features three rows…

  75. An open letter to the C&G community: (Do I really need to write this? Evidently so.) If this website is to be taken seriously, then we need to discuss ideas, not personalities; present facts, not ridicule; and try to encourage, respect, tolerate, and understand others' viewpoints. We share an enthusiasm for cars, so let's stand together with that common interest. Posters have every right and opportunity to disagree with someone else, but it isn't necessary to mock or vilify anyone or to cheapen their accomplishments! Or you have the right of ignoring someone's post. [ Refer to the "Employee Discount" thread under "General Motors News" for a number of the lates…

Koenigsegg CCX Revealed Text & photos courtesy Koenigsegg Automotive AB 02-24-2006 First Impression The first impression of the Koenigsegg CC is its dynamic stance and futuristic, aggressive attitude. It appears amazingly low and broad, with the cockpit-like semicircular windscreen and organically shaped rear hood as key features. The smooth and polished body is gently curved, almost simplistic; a fully integrated design. Lines and surfaces appear thoroughbred and slippery, projecting an image of velocity onto the machine. This design shouts in a clear and universal language: “I travel at extreme speed”. Machined for Speed Koenigsegg's design seeks to give an in…

To better serve our members in keeping up-to-date with all things GM especially in regards to future vehicle development, I'd like to take this time to announce two new forums on the C&G website. The Volt-ometer subforum located within the Chevrolet Forum will chronicle the development of this amazing new vehicle from concept to production. In the same way the Camaro Center represented the emotion surrounding the rebirth of Chevy's muscle car, we hope The Volt-ometer will foster the same spirit and enthusiasm for this truly revolutionary vehicle. All other GM developments in biodiesel, ethanol, fuel cells, and related demonstration vehicles will be chronicled i…

But 16 years later, the auto industry is once again the driving force for the town's 70,000 residents. France's PSA Peugeot Citroen will start production at a state-of-the-art assembly plant next year, eventually creating more than 5,000 jobs. Subcontractors are expected to supply another 1,500 jobs within two years. The plant is expected to have annual capacity of 450,000 ca…

  97. A tale of two lost automakers in search of their mojo. By Peter M. De Lorenzo (Posted 10/12, 12:00 p.m.) Detroit. No, I’m not going to write about the Chevrolet Volt this week in this column, although I do have a mini-rant in this week’s “On the Table” if you just have to read more about it. I’d rather talk about two Japanese car industry stalwarts – Toyota and Honda – and where they’ve been, where they are now and where they need to go given increasingly stiff competition from Ford and the Hyundai-KIA group, etc. Five years ago you could pretty much predict the tone of any article mentioning either Toyota or Honda, the two most successful Asian automakers of their tim…

Maybe instead of displaying just the most recently updated topic in each thread on the main forum page, how about the most recent two or three. I'm sure that many topics actually get missed for this reason. It has happened to me many times, where I don't see a topic until much after it was started. I know this will take up much more room, but there's got to be some way to make it work. Just a suggestion, i dunno I'm just lazy i guess.
