Hey all. As some of you know I had an 06 malibu SS that I was planning on trading in on a G8 GT when they came to market. Well due to the fact that I was a complete dumb ass those plans had to be flushed down the drain as I got a DUI last december. long story short with that is that I was at an office party and had been drinking pretty steadily for a few hours. Normally If I have more than two beers I don't even consider driving as I've seen first hand how a DUI/DWI can affect a persons life. Unfortunatley I was a bit under the weather and I was also homesick as I hadn;t visited my family in a few months. I was supposed to go up there that night and I felt a very …

If I had the money, I would do this... ...To the front of my S10. Also, I was flipping through an Auto Trader Extra the other day, and found something I'm going to look into: locally, there is a 1994 Chevy S10 for sale with a 350 V8 for only $2,900. I know the truck is worth that much in powertrain modification alone, so I'm excitied I found this kind of deal. I have to pick up another Extra, though, to get the name of the dealer and the phone number. There is one problem, however: the color is yellow, and it's not GTO YellowJacket yellow, either. This shade is too . . . light for my tastes, so I'm thinking I'll eventually do a paint scheme that would be pearlescent b…

I just learned yesterday that the "Back to the Future - The Ride" has closed and is in the process of being demolished in Universal Studios Orlando.... and that the one in Universal Studios Los Angeles is set to close for good in 20 days (September 3). So if you're in CA, a fan of this ride, and want one last chance to ride it, do so before it closes for good on September 3. And just fyi... the ride that will be built on the BTTF's site in both parks will be a Simpson's ride. I sad and happy at the same time.

Friend of mine wants a Camaro. He has very good credit. The Chevy dealer said he only got approved for $15,000. He went to a Honda dealer to check out what they had and found out he could get approved for $30,000. What gives? He wants a Camaro but if he can't get the financing he's going elsewhere, probably for a Honda.

LOS ANGELES - Gerald R. Ford, who picked up the pieces of Richard Nixon’s scandal-shattered White House as the 38th and only unelected president in America’s history, has died, his wife, Betty, said Tuesday. He was 93. “My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age,” Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband’s office in Rancho Mirage. “His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country.” The statement did not say where Ford died or list a cause of death. Ford had battled pneumonia in January 2006 and underwent two heart t…

This is a thread for random Google searches. Why? because I'm bored and happy. A deadly combination. Why? It just is. But why am I bored and happy? Well, it isn't very active around here at the moment and I made a discovery... Could someone please tell me what comes up if you search for "brookville pa chevy"? Yes, that is the reason for starting this thread. So shoot me... No, really, shoot me, damnit!

Read the 5 topics that came up when searching for 'digital camera'. Being the Thriftyosaurus that I am, I am finally ready to replace my 10-yr old Canon 2.1 MP digital. It actually still works fine, except the battery is tired, and the recent replacement isn't much better. I can shoot about 12 pics B4 both are dead. For kicks, this lil unit cost right around $500 10 years ago (!!) but at least I got my money's worth (sold about $4k of stuff over the years). I primarily use a DC to shoot items I sell, so any image issues the relative quality level of the Canon has.... being an old hand @ PhotoShop- they are no problem. Well, now that I have licked this uploading problem and managed to scan all 2,000 or so photos that are the sum of my life before I left Canada, I can post pics of the cars I have owned. There is one vehicle missing and that is a '87 K-Car that I bought in 2000 for $300 from a customer (it only had 50,000 miles on it and it was absolutely pristine), spent $500 getting it 'safetied,' but it was rear-ended 3 months later by a chick in an Audi (the Audi had to be towed; I drove the K-car for another week before the adjuster came to 'write it off:' he gave me $2k for it!) Okay, she wasn't the prettiest, but she cost me $50 and a pair of speakers that my buddy wanted…

We all know some men and, we'd like to hope not women, shave while behind the wheel of their vehicle; however, this one takes a whole new step off the last rung of the ladder of stupidity: Can I hopefully state that this can only happen in Florida? US woman crashes when shaving bikini line A US woman has been arrested after crashing into a truck as she shaved her bikini line while she was driving. Megan Mariah Barnes, 37, was on the way to a date with her boyfriend in southern Florida when the collision took place, TV station WFOR-TV reported. Barnes allegedly gave her ex-husband the wheel as she shaved her private parts because she wanted to be "ready for the visit"…

My friends have a 2011/2012 Acadia without a Nav screen (they have what I think is called the black tie radio or something like that). They want to unpair a cell phone because apparently they have filled up the number of phones you can have paired. Is there a command they can speak to do this or something they can access via the radio's menu? They lost the owner's manual and online I seem to only find the newer ones with intellilink.

So. on monday I had the afternoon off and was running around town trying to get some stuff done. I am taking a couple classes up at NDSU this fall so i ran up to get everything paid up and ready to go. I get all of it done quickly as I am parked illegally in a parking lot not far from the union. I hop in the Impala and back out of my spot, put it in drive and am about to head forward just as a professor in a brand new lexus ES backs right into my door...............went through the whole reporting thing and went to go get an estimate.......$1300, and her insurance company doesn't even know if they are going to pay for it because it was a parking lot accident. So on Sunday I was on my way to the store when a bunch of ricers (like 5 or 6) were heading the opposite way toward downtown Lawrence. I thought it was odd but thought nothing of it. Later that day I was driving through the downtown area when I see in one of the huge mill parking lots that there was a car show. I have never seen Lawrence host one, and of course, this one and only car show is almost if not entirely ricers. 5-foot wings and cheesy paint jobs as far as the eye could see. It was disgusting...makes me hate this city even more. However it was all worth it because of what I saw a few hours later. We had a severe thunderstorm that caused flash flooding. Seve…

One option I am pondering for when my 500 lease is up this fall is to find a dirt cheap used ford freestar to drive for 2 years or so. generally, i like my vehicles to have a full center console with armrest. I do not like the narrow fold down armrests off the seats that vans typically have. the interior of many ford products has the same kind of look and plastics. i was debating if a guy could do a hack job on say, a center console from a junked 500 or say migrate the rear console of a freestyle or expedition or something into working between the front seats of the freestar? obviously developing a solid mounting system and trying to determine the proper height …

-- -- -- -- -- Let's just suppose you're a 19-year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-65, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8:1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. While I haven't been much of a fan of Motor Trend lately, I picked up the Sept/Oct issue of Motor Trend Classic for an article on the Corvair, and an interesting piece on the '59 Chevy's fins. This morning I'm going through, page by page, checking out the mag, and I find an editorial by Angus Mackenzie, entitled "History Lesson", and I swear, this man somehow got inside my mind and published what I (and others) have been thinking and posting here for years. Here are some excerpts: "...Henry Ford: 'History is more or less bunk. It's tradition. We don't want tradition...' The irony is Ford Motor Company might be in a whole lot less trouble right now if the folks who r…

So, as most of you know, I have a best friend named Ray. Here's what I knew about him for the last 18-20 months until yesterday: 19 years old, black child living in a less black-than-white metro-Detroit community, grew up in Laguna Beach until he was 8, his dad died when Ray was 8, mom died when he was 12, and he's lived in MI since being 8 with his grandfather because of financial reasons. Well, yesterday at my graduation party, I asked Darren something (Ray's brother; I don't remember what I had asked) and he was confused. Now, this was something he would've known, but didn't. So I asked on: Your mom is alive? "Yes," was his answer.. with a questioned look on his face…

It's rolling around to my original hire date (July 3rd), and I still have 2 weeks vacation time coming that I have to use before then, or I lose it, per written company policy. So I took next week and the last week of the month, which means I'll be off one week, work two, then off another in June. I earned this time, and I think I need it, although there are no big plans. Yesterday, my boss pulls me aside and says if I "want" to, he can make arrangements with the BIG boss that I can take one week off, then for the second week, I can take the vacation pay but come to work, or I can push the second week off past my hire date, which means I will have 4 weeks vacation comi…

Along with the "What Would You Buy Instead?" threads, I thought I'd bring this one back, too. Today we're focusing on two of the greatest cars to ever wear the famed Prancing Horse badge, but from two very different times. The two cars themselves are also very different, but have some glaring similarities. Both cars use small displacement turbocharged V8's mounted midship, both deliver(ed) stunning performance in their day, but they hail from different eras, and are obvious products of such. So, would you rather have..... Ferrari F40 or 488 GTB Remember, you cannot pick a different …

I went with mom tonight to drop off her 2005 Cobalt with 20,500 miles, sign papers, and pick up her new leftover 2009 Nissan Cube 1.8 SL, Moss Green with black interior. She leased it for 39 months at $115/month, a heck of a deal. She's been wanting one since they came out, and she was able to get it. It rides pretty nice, quiet, with a lot of features and nice, wide, flat seats. CVT is warranteed for 10 years/120k miles on Nissans, I didn't know dat.

For the first time since I've had all 4 older Monte Carlos (1972, 1976, 1979 and 1981), I drove EACH of them at least 1,000 miles in 2009. I came close to that milestone in 2008, but fell just shy. Now, all 5 of my Monte Carlos are "sleeping" for the 2009-2010 winter ... awaiting their 2010 debut. 1972 MC STATS: 11/28/08 mileage ... 144,986 11/22/09 mileage ... 146,054 miles driven 11/28/08 to 11/22/09 = 1,068 In 2009, "Browny"'s odometer surpassed the 145,000 and 146,000 mileage markers. miles driven 12/11/04 to 11/19/05 = 563 miles driven 11/19/05 to 11/24/06 = 497 miles driven 11/24/06 to 11/18/07 = 489 miles driven 11/18/07 to 11/28/08 = 957 miles driven s…

Well, I managed to plaster two deer the other night on my way to pick up my girlfriend (plans ruined obviously) and since my car is 11 years old with like, 127,000 miles, my insurance company totalled it, but it's still driveable and I haven't quite decied whether to buy it back or abandon it and hope I could get something else quick or what. Then, a week after hitting those deer, I was on my way to work driving at like 4:30 am and hit another one going 55, but ironically, this deer didn't cause any damage. P.S. All deer listed (3) were dead. I have nicknamed my car "The Slayer". Got stuck in my drive during the big snow storm and couldn't go to work. My road wasn't…

So the average new car price currently sits at $33,781. Which is a decent amount. There's some pretty solid deals out there for that kinda money. I'm going to round that number up slightly to $35,000, and use it as the base line for this Dream Garage thread. Rules- 1) You have a total of $175,000. 2) You must have at least 2, but no more than 5 automobiles. 3) You can spend as much or as little on any one vehicle as you want. 4) These are your only vehicles. 5) Choices must be brand new and on sale now. 6) You CAN use actual sale prices, rather than MSRP, SO LONG AS THEY ARE REALISTIC. GM & Chevy do consider this to be a truck model and when you look on the online ordering guide, the Equinox is listed under the Chevy Trucks link with all of the other pickups, SUVs, and CUVs. Thanks in advance for your consideration!!

it's an internship with unilever in Sikeston Mo. been working a few days. helping impliment S5, TMP and generally better inventory oversight. dont' know what else i'll be helping with, but it pays 2x what my previous jobs did, and while i don't get any benefits, other things are keeping costs to a minimum. thought some of you might like to know that...nice to be able to say too.

Uh, the phone just rang. So, being a dummy, I picked it up. On the other end was a young lady fresh out of her "English as a Second Language" class. She wanted me to visit a resort in the Poconos Mountains. Just for taking the tour, I'd receive a free flat screen television. So, I asked her if the resort is "clothing optional". She didn't know what that meant, so I said "Do you have to wear clothes when you go there?" She answered "I am not selling anything. I do not know what the question is you are asking." I love telemarketers soooo much. :AH-HA_wink:

Classified documents compromised in 103 countries, researchers say TORONTO - A cyber spy network based mainly in China has tapped into classified documents from government and private organizations in 103 countries, including the computers of Tibetan exiles, Canadian researchers said Saturday. The work of the Information Warfare Monitor initially focused on allegations of Chinese cyber espionage against the Tibetan community in exile, and eventually led to a much wider network of compromised machines, the Internet-based research group said. "We uncovered real-time evidence of malware that had penetrated Tibetan computer systems, extracting sensitive documents from t…

While visiting with the owner of my local Chevy Dealer, the subject of GM's future came up. He stated that with 40% of GM dealers being closed, it will be impossible for GM not to file for BK. He stated that GM could not get enough government cash, and doesn't have enough lawyers to cover all of the potential law suits. At the end of the conversation i was in agreement with him regarding this matter. Any thoughts on this?

A few points before I get into the subject... 1 ... I had a good 4th of July. 2 ... I realized I really want to be a weather person ... be paid 100% of the time, even if I'm wrong. The forecast, of course, for the 4th of July called for clouds and rain. So, I believed them. Instead, we had mostly sunshine today. But, I didn't get the older 4 Monte Carlos out (they still have not seen road pavement in 2007); I took the time to travel to have lunch with some good friends ... and meet their new, 2-week-old daughter. Course, not much else on my list got accomplished ... go figure . 3 ... The trip to Freeport IL was a bit selfish of me, too ... because it's been a LONG…

Selective perception: I thought another post said "Parents are stupid sometimes" and then it turned out to be "Pants are stupid sometimes." So, I'll run a poll. So how do you rate the job your parents did? (I actually would have made a decent psychologist since I analyze everything, think about cause and effect and offer advice to my friends (when asked...except for Paulie, in which case I volunteer it). Mine. Honestly: a C- . Extreme inconsistency. We'd take a road trip to Yosemite or Hearst Castle and one day would be great and another day something would set them off. The biggest problem is that they imported what they both came from: a patriarchal set up w…

So finally my girlfriend was able to find the school bus that witnessed the accident a few weeks ago. She was able to get the info of it down (the plate, bus number and the company it belonged to). This was yesterday, so by the time I got home the Lawrence School District office was closed, and today I wasn't able to call. I plan to tomorrow, but I'm not sure how to ask or if they are the right people to call. The bus is from North Reading Transportation, which several towns away from us, but makes stops in this area, which leads me to assume that it has a Lawrence bus route for one of the Lawrence Schools...but it didn't say which. When I called North Reading Transportat…

Ebay seems to be expensive to sell stuff, so I was wondering if there are any others that might be around. The only thing i am worried about is if these other auction sites get as much traffic as ebay.

I do not know if anybody has used this before, but Synergy, is a software using which you can hook-up up to eight computers to one keyboard and mouse (of the mother computer). No more having virtual desktop, or other LAN based shebang. So as long all your computers are seeing one network, Synergy works fine. I am using it and I love it. What is cool is that the software lets you copy and paste from one computer to other. If you do not have capability of setting up a network, there is a free online VPN known as Hamachi; it is secured compared to other VPN's and the best part is that you can access any of your computers from anywhere in the world so as long you hav…

This year I am taking part in https://www.facebook.com/gentlemansride to raise funds and awareness for men's health and prostate cancer on behalf of the Movember foundation. Prostate cancer affects more men than any other cancer, taking the lives of 307,000 men each year. That number is surpassed by 500,000 men dying from suicide. That's 807,000 men every year. This is a number that must change. Please reach out and give what you can; help support me on my ride by going to https://gfolk.me/DrewDowdell and donating. Thank you, Drew.
