It was a post about how the Gov't in the '70's allowed Big 3 dealership owners to sell Totota out of their dealerships, the same dealership network that cost GM, Ford, Chrystler billions to setup. All it cost Toyota was some paperwork and a couple signs. It had something to do with that, please help!

* We tell others to "never say never", but then use the phrase "never forget" for 09/11/2001! Perhaps "always remember" is a bit more appropriate for Patriot Day & other things? I’ve said it’s more about people than anything, but starting to wonder.... Until a few weeks ago, it had been ~1 year & 3 months since I posted. I’ve been without a job for over 2.5 years & without income for a year (unemployment ended September 2013). I was denied disability; I am now on Medicaid, but cannot see my doctors. I’ve sold cars, with 2 more for sale now; all of my FWD-condoning MCs are gone. Otherwise, things are great; ha! Nephew will be 6 years old &…

I was out running around earlier, finishing up my Xmas shopping (I think, hmmm...). When I turned into my development, I realized it had not been plowed. We've got 7-8 inches of snow so far, and one of the streets is uphill to get back to my house. Starting out in second gear definitely helped me out on the road, but that stuff is DEEP for a Cobalt. The little guy spun and spun, I was in third gear, speedo reading 40 at 2500 RPM, prolly moving 1 mph, but made it up the hill and into my garage. My neighbors were standing out in their driveway, arms outstretched. "How the hell did you make it up that hill? We had to park at the bottom, we couldn't make it!" I just s…

Been a while since I've been online.... But, what a summer it has been! Lots of gatherings of all sorts...with a road trip in the mix...and more to come YET this YEAR! From Friday, August 8, to Tuesday, August 12, I traveled through 8 states in 5 days...and met up with friends and family along the way. I rented a Dodge Charger, even after the original rental place had no cars available despite my reservation. The Dodge Charger was a pleasure to drive...on the road trip. I had to pick it up Wednesday night, August 6, since Mom and Dad left for PA the next morning (Thursday). I put the '87 MC LS in the garage with the older 4 MCs Wednesday night and took the Charge…

Most car people have pretty strong allegiances. The theme of this thread is... which one vehicle from "the enemy" would you choose to own? It could be something you really like, that stands out in an otherwise crappy lineup, or just the lesser of evils, something you would tolerate while gritting your teeth.

I have only one complaint about the Enclave from the looks of it, the metallic trim on the dashboard is misaligned on both models here where it meets with the second half of the dash trim under the clock....otherwise these are stunning...I alos saw one in person for the first time tonight, a CX with ebony cloth interior...and the dash trim had the same problem in this model in person....hope it gets fixed soon. The other day at lunch, went out, sitting by myself...next table, Toyota tech and a Honda tech were eating lunch, from nearby dealerships. both of them spent the whole time pretty much talking about how crappy American and European cars are, and how much better simply EVERYTHING from Asia is. I am to the point where I think just the reverse, that while Asia builds some fine cars...esp Mazda and Hyundai....I am really liking American cars again and really actually want to buy a European car., So could I just have any love that anyone will offer up for American or European iron...please...just a little...?

I'm bringing plenty of resumes and reference sheets along with two photoshops (original versus rendered images on each). I saw the best Mazda one. A middle age guy is sitting in his camry and he looks in the visor mirror and a 70 year old version of himself is in the mirror as a mazda 6 goes by. Then a middle age lady looks at her reflection on her accords window and an old version of herself is staring back....and it was about how your car should fit your age....The camry part was so funny and such a good dis to toyota! And the narrator said something to the effect of "dont drive boring old people cars! Buy a mazda6 and soon boring old sedans will be extinct" Now if only GM did something like that...

I've always wanted to check this guys book out ("Metallica and Philosophy: A Crash Course In Brain Surgery") I think this article (pertaining to the release of Death Magnetic) is a very cool read! I often get MANY responses when I tell people how adamant I am about metal, particularly thrash, death and black metal. I get everything from "Don't kill yourself, it'll be okay" to sneers of disgust and comments like "Unlike you, I don't worship satan." to people even calling me ignorant. Well, this article is one of the best things I've found that explains HOW I view metal and WHY I'm such a big fan. When your life is a daily struggle to survive (Like mine was at one po…

Although the snow let up in intensity and ended altogether hours ago, school has still been cancelled for tommorow! :sign0200: Just over 24" of snow fell on the area late last night and earlier today. Westchester schools announced county-wide closings for Monday by late afternoon, but New York City Schools remained open until the past hour when the decision to cancel classes was made (I attend school in the Bronx). Roads are still a mess and trains will be on a limited schedule tommorow due to the storm. Since most students at my school commute from Westchester by train, I'm pretty sure that's what warranted the closing. I'm especially happy because I've put off…

The weirdest thing... While I was at work today, a reporter from wall street journal called me to ask about the Tahoe sales and how I felt the other GMT900 were going to sell. weirdest thing... Well... The things she asked... How were sales going Was traffic up with the launch of the Tahoe? Were people asking about the tahoe? What is the general perception of the Tahoe? Looking at the traffic the Tahoe has broght are you looking forward to the upcoming vehicles like the Suburban? Would you say sales are up even over January?

I subscribed to Collectible Automobile magazine for years. They do a nice job with their photos and the info in the text. Now I just buy the issues containing vehicles I am really interested in. . I snagged the current issue yesterday off the magazine rack. It features full-sized Oldsmobiles from 1971-'76. Some nice pix accompanying the article, including a '72 98 Regency just like the car I had up into 1978. Also some really nice pix of a '56 DeSoto Fireflite.

It's sometimes ironic what will trigger a memory. On Halloween, I went with my sister, nephew and friends to watch the kids trick or treat. One of the houses we visited was the one in which my grandparents lived during their "retirement years". Standing in front of it, I "flashed back" to scenes from Halloweens long ago of my sister, our cousins and me as kids eager to show Gram and Gramps our costumes ... and, of course, to get candy. As we walked away from the house and walked past the driveway and the telephone poll that damaged my 1981 Monte Carlo Sport Coupe, I caught a glimpse of the garage behind the house ... and almost immediately flashed back to a few "uncoo…

I can't remember who all here is in the auto sales business, but I believe Carbiz is? Anyway, I am looking at a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 that goes for about $8870 according to Kelly Blue Book. However, most of the same year / features / similar mileage that I've seen are between $7900 and $8500 (the $7900 is a private seller). The salesman that I am going through at a local F-L-M dealership is asking $8700, which my uncle (who owns a used car business and goes to auto auctions all the time) says is on the high side. He also says that KBB values are usually overinflated. My question is, what size profit margin would the dealer be expecting on this car? I realize they ca…

Cadillac's Fabulous V-16s by Bill Vance The Cadillac V-16 was conceived in what were seen as the best of times, the Roaring Twenties. Alas, by the time it went on sale it was the worst of times, the Depression of the thirties brought on by the October 1929 collapse of the stock market. In spite of the bad times, however, the introduction of a 16- cylinder engine vaulted Cadillac into the front ranks of prestige automobiles. There were private showings in December 1929, followed by its public presentation at the New York Auto Show in January 1930. Such American marques as Packard, Franklin, Marmon, Lincoln and Pierce-Arrow would respond with large, multi-cylinder e…

WASHINGTON - A huge federal study in people — not rats — takes the fizz out of arguments that the diet soda sweetener aspartame might raise the risk of cancer. No increased risk was seen even among people who gulped down many artificially sweetened drinks a day, said researchers who studied the diets of more than half a million older Americans. A consumer group praised the study, done by reputable researchers independent of any funding or ties to industry groups. "It goes a fair way toward allaying concerns about aspartame," said Michael Jacobson, head of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, which had urged the government to review the sweetener's safety afte…

As I was reading the 2007 JD Power Report for long term dependibility, it made me think. If consumer reports shows a low marking for toyota vehicles now (model specific) then JD Power will show a MUCH bigger issue later. As I see it, JD Power is closer to realistic reporting as they are not subscriber based, unlike cr which has a loyal toyota fan base. If that fan base is not used then the problems with the 3 vehicles will show 10 fold. This could easily knock lexus out of the top marking. Not only that; it could knock toyota as a whole out of the top. Hmm . . . Now add to the fact that in the past few years quality issues and recalls have been a trend at toyota t…

They insisted that I can only have one residential and mailing address, and if I change it to my friend's Markham mailing address the policy address will have to change and apparently rate group as well. I got my LaCrosse on April 30th. All summer long, it's been bombarded with a broken underground sprinkler that for some reason, my landlord couldn't seem to get fixed properly each time. I'm not one of those people that runs out to dry his car with a towel every second it gets wet... I won't go crazy for a little dirt, but I do like it to look nice and shine every now and then. That said, I didn't realize the water was hard water. Article appears here: http://www.slate.com/id/2161309/ As you've probably heard, there's been an explosion of inequality in the United States over the past four decades. The gap between high-skilled and low-skilled workers is bigger than ever before, and it continues to grow. How can we close the gap? Well, I suppose we could round up a bunch of assembly-line workers and force them to mow the lawns of corporate vice presidents. Because the gap I'm talking about is the gap in leisure time, and it's the least educated who are pulling ahead. In 1965, leisure was pretty much equally distributed across classes. People of the same age, sex, and family size tended to have abo…

It supposedly goes for $100, but I got it for 15 minutes of seat time in a Saab.

I present to you my weekend, which consisted of replacing my spark plugs and wires as well as those on my father's car. I must compliment GM Powertrain in the design of the 4.0l Aurora V8. On the surface, looks hard beyond the even row of plugs which are right up front on the aluminum block... However, the ends have these nifty little pulltabs that allow easy removal... And the odd-numbered plugs that look impossible to replace because they're mounted behind and below the coil pack (which itself has several control module above it) is extrodinarily easy because the coil pack can be unplugged and unbolted in minutes... Total time from hood pop to hood shut (inclu…

The other night I was watching a basketball game on TV, and I saw the same commercial for the Sonata about 5 times. At first it's just driving around and whatnot, and then it enters a tunnel. The tunnel scene is VERY similar to the V-Series commercial where the cars start in a tunnel, and then it comes out of the tunnel very similarly to how the V-Series cars do. Has anyone else seen the commercial? If I was Cadillac marketing, I'd be PISSED at Hyundai right now.

Anyone remember this? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=85...b+Suite&pl=true I thought of this and it could be an idea for a Camaro intro ad... First show a tagline: "After many years of waiting, there's something that the Chevrolet family is so happy they're dancing..." Then show a stream of Cobalt SS, Malibus, Impalas and Corvettes enter the scene doing the stunt ballets. After dancing for a short while, a covered carrier truck arrives. Camera zooms into the container, and zooming into the light fading into the Camaro sitting inside, zooming into the smooth body lines and slowly getting brighter. The Camaro then lights up, launches off from the carrier, do…

I'm sure most of you know the Autotainment is opening up this spring in Vegas. There could be no better place for Cheers and Gears to have a get together. Either way, I'm heading there this summer. Any one else? Info on Autotainment

I was going to head to some Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, etc. dealers today in the Detroit area. If anyone has been, do they give out brochures or anything? I also don't hope they think I will buy one. Most expensive dealers are in Troy off of Big Beaver Rd. The Ferrari dealer is in West Bloomfield wherever that is! If you know anything about these dealers or any US Ferrari dealer could you tell me? (PS. I feel like a billionaire going to all these dealers!!! LoL!)

The girl living in your house is a brunette, a blonde, a redhead, and has purple hair...all in the same week. Not sure why chicks like dieing hair so much but...it's bad when you almost don't recognise your own kids.

It's long been touted that virtual violence can easily replace actual violence. Apparently, the mayor of Mexico City wants to see if that'll hold up. --- Mexico City (Mexico) The new mayor of Mexico City is offering criminals a free Xbox 360 for every handgun, and a free PC for higher caliber firearms such as assault rifles, that are handed into police in an amnesty, according to Reuters. The move is being trialled in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in the city and will be extended elsewhere if it proves a success. Already 17 handguns have been handed in, with the ex-criminals walking away with an Xbox 360 with which to conduct crime and mayhem in a less des…

Its amazing how complex those wirong diaghrams are for me. and how many computer boards there are. theres at least $20 in quaters in the tray at all times. but the sad part is durring some partys I leave some quaters in a jar to use to get credits that all the coins are accounted for.

I haven't logged onto the boards much, if at all, the last few weeks...and it may be a while before I'm back regularly (for various reasons), but it has been an interesting summer...one highlight being the July 26 multi-board/group gathering in Elgin: http://pics.projectmonte.com/album/12498 And, even though I've wondered lately after a rough month of disappointments/frustrations, I still think it IS about the people you meet and come to know.... So...it is kinda cool to read that others seem to agree: http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/courier...ILEY_S1.article It's just too bad more people don't realize this...or realize it too late...instead focusing on detail…

Ya, it's the 16th already, but I had a boatload of sightings today. • white Lamborghini Huracan, slogging thru US Rt 1 traffic. • red Holden Commodore sedan with 'SAVE6MT' plate, slogging thru US Rt 1 traffic. • pale yellow '55 Cadillac hardtop coupe & white '60 Buick Electra 225 convert, sitting in rear of trucking yard looking forgotten. "Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. These are the four cycles of the reciprocating, internal-combustion engine (ICE) Nikolaus Otto patented in the 19th century. The action of the intake valves that allow an engine to breathe and the exhaust valves that let it expel spent gases were, until very recently, defined by a shaft of eccentric lobes rotating twice as fast as the engine’s crankshaft. Cams still spin twice as fast as the crank in the modern engine, but advances like camshaft phasing, or changing the relative opening and closing of valves in relation to the crank position, thus improving efficiency and performance, are commonplace. Honda’s VTEC actually changes the cam…

So, in an unexpected turn of events, the Bonneville will disappear Saturday and be replaced with a 2013 Traverse. I got a deal and decided to take it, so the the Bonne disappears and the Malibu sticks around a couple more months until its lease is up. Then I have to decide what I get to replace the Malibu. Guess its time to update my av.

So this isn't a Dream Garage thread or anything, but in keeping in spirits with it being Halloween, post up some of your favorite cars that you think pair nicely with this kinda-sorta-holiday. Maybe you think they just have a sinister, dark look or demeanor to them. Maybe they were offered in color schemes that befit the occassion. Whatever the reason, post 'em up!! I'll start. I always thought the LF-A kinda looked like an angry jack-o-lantern. Which I totally love. It's one of all-time favorite cars. Not to mention that V10 banshee wail!

This is an actor who raced, and acted in a well known racing film. He starred in a production that involved the totaling of a whole lot of pontiacs back in the 1970's... Guy was the first draftee from Oklahoma in the Korean war.... He starred opposite Sally field in a major motion picture... Give the name of the Racing movie, the production that wrecked all of those Pontiacs...and the movie he made with SallyField. Good luck, you should get this one easily....

Pretty simple, I'll post a line from a song, whoever figures it out names the song and artist, then they post their own lyrics for someone else to figure out. You don't have to make it crazy easy, but maybe try not to make it something too obscure so people at least have a chance to figure it out. I think that about covers it, so, to get it started: There, are stars, in the southern sky, and if ever, you decide, you should go, there is a taste, of time sweetened honey, down.........
