Specifically, the wagon in this picture. The two tone reminds me of a mid-fifties Ford, but they don't match.

So I'm parked at night unloading a van, 4 ways on, doors open... and a stupid ass in a BMW SUV drives up behind me trying to make the right turn. I see his turn signal on... and that he has one fog light out. After lots of waving, they finally get a clue and and put the other turn signal on... drive around... I notice the fog light goes out and the other fog light comes on. Finally in front of me, I see the fog light has switched sides again to follow the turn signal. Kind of interesting. Not sure it was that useful, but interesting. Is this a new feature in the BMW X-series? Any other cars have this feature?

Stupid killers/personal trainers. I signed up for the "personal fitness evaluation" at my new gymnasium, and had my session last evening. Today I am typing with my left incisor because I cannot move anything else. I hope I don't make any mistakes tiping. He said his goal was to make me hate him at the end. He achieved his goal. Ben Gay, you are my loved one.

Two Jeep Cherokees, one a '98 and the other a '94. Both supposedly run. Both supposedly have good titles. Both have an asking price of $850. I'm curious about the '98, that's what I'm hoping may be a diamond in the rough. I don't know what I would do with an extra Jeep sitting around, but whatever. I think I can deal with it. We'll see. I have the weekend to wait.

Post what your own personal automotive Holy Grail is here; include pictures and a background story if you'd like I would recommend that you post no more than one vehicle per catergory... so that would mean one holy grail car/CUV/Minivan, one holy grail truck/SUV, one holy grail motorcycle, one holy grail airplane, etc. (you get the point )

I've been requested to contact the grandson of Harley Earl, by said person, in regards to some unspecified internet rambling I did on concept cars. Not sure what caught his eye... This brings me right back to the time the owner of Pontiac Historical Services called my house, demanding to know why I was "badmouthing" him on the internet. (He still hasn't fixed the 'problem' ! )

Yes I am very much alive... for those who might have been wondering. Busier than ever, now a dad 3 times over. Since this is C&G and not a sewing circle, and since I do not really "social-network" all that much anyway I'll just fill you in on the car 411 and we can go from there. As of last year it finally happened... I LOST COUNT as to how many cars I have actually "owned" over the years. Including demolition derby cars & cars I daily drove as my own even though they belonged legally to a buddy &/or spouse, I have owned approx 61 vehicles. First the BAD news: as of just two weeks ago I no longer own the 1959 Buick LeSabre that I waited so lon…

I prolly carry too much baggage from the high school years. For EX, I recently looked at the FB profile of a guy I had a cross-room brawl with in high school, and I still feel dislike toward him, even tho the 'statute of limitations' has long ago run out on that. OTOH, as I randomly look up people I used to know from HS, I feel better & better about my current state of self-preservation. Many of the 'beautiful people' have fallen so hard. Life can be a harsh mistress, so the saying goes. Is it wrong to take a teaspoon of glee from that??

..no, you pervert, my Porsche "virginity." About a month ago, I happened to be sitting in front of my computer when an email came in from the dealership I got my A5 from. They were having a "Day at the track" event for their customers and the first 75 people to reply would get a FREE track day and free instruction. Hmm…let me think…. Yes, I'll attend. As the day neared, I thought I was going to miss out. My A5 wasn't going to be available to drive that day. I emailed them back and said they should probably give my spot to someone else. The reply was something like "Oh, no, we'll have cars there for you to drive. You should definitely still come." Disaster averted. The…

One thing I've never understood. How can people who are clearly in the wrong return the finger? I was biking today and got cut off by someone who just had to slam on the brakes at the stop light anyways. I let her have it through the open window and gave her the finger. She returned it and truly enraged me. Took everything in me not to beat the living crap out of her in front of her kids. I don't get it - why risk this? I'm clearly already enraged by her, why would she want to make it worse?

Today was my parents' 23rd anniversary so they went out to have a nice day for themselves. Since the HHR has continued to develop more mysterious unhealthy noises, they had been thinking about potential replacements, with a Focus hatchback high on the list. So during their driving about they stopped at a Ford dealer just to look around. The dealer had no Focii in stock and did not know when they would get any more, so my parents test drove a couple others, an Escape and an Edge. Long story short, they promptly traded the HHR for a black 2012 Ford Escape.

So I sold my black corvette this week, I decided I wanted a new Grand Sport Corvette. I know that I want it to be a Grand Sport with manual transmission and dual-mode exhasut, I'm open to most colors with the exception of yellow, and my wife ruled out white. I found one at a local dealership that has everything I want at a good price, but the color is inferno orange metallic. I guess I'm neutral to the color - what do you guys think? http://www.mikeandersonchevy.net/VehicleDetails/new-2011-Chevrolet-Corvette-Coupe_Grand_Sport_2LT-Merrillville-IN/1136196743

So I'm traveling down a suburban road, when an F-150 makes a right turn from a side road, with no turn signal, and swings way over into my lane coming toward me. She barely makes it back into her lane as I get to her. I look over and she's just smilin' and jackin' her jaws on a CELL PHONE, completely oblivious to the task at hand, seemingly, and that is... DRIVING HELLO. Freakin' birdbrain individuals out there, I'm tellin' ya. And the laws banning cell phone use while driving will not work until someone has an accident and it is proven they were using their phone at the time. What sort of alignment of the stars has to happen for a police officer to actually be there…

Stuck on a sunny, dry 2-lane highway in a 55 mph zone doing 45 the other day, double yellow lines mocking my plight, behind a Toyota Highlander with a "HOW'S MY DRIVING" sticker with a car number and phone number. No traffic ahead of him (because they're all doing 55 and they're way ahead). Wondering if I'm on television somewhere. After about 5 miles of this, the road goes to 4 lanes and he sticks in the left lane. There's an immediate intersection. As I pass him on the right, I notice he's been gabbing on his cell phone the whole time as he turns left off the highway. Ah yes, the torture of having a solution to a driving cell phone jabberjaw (the phone number on t…

Seems a normal human proclivity to want to be near others of your feather. When on a road trip, do you take note of other vehicles around you? Do you tend to form a convoy of good buddies and travel for miles, maybe mildly jockeying for position in line, but staying together in a ragtag group? Strangers traveling on the road of life together, separately, having never spoken, maybe glancing over for a split second to see who's who... And it all falls apart when they turn off, or when you hit the toll booths and they have an easy pass and you have to go into the "cash only" line.

Several members have little projects going on, I figured I'd have a thread for mine. This will be an ongoing thread, if for no other reason than because I like documenting my progress. After building my own mower and rekindling an hobby I had when I was younger, I thought it might be fun to fix and flip mowers for some extra crash and as something to do. I went from having no lawn mower to having 6! Not sure how that even happened but that's ok. The first one is of course the Brute, which is my keeper. To build it I was given a donor mower with a good engine that needed TLC and a well used but still solid deck. After that was finished I came across a couple of mo…

Bought this for $15 from my wife's aunt. Her son used to drag race a '60s El Camino at the local strip. Having done numerous upgrades, motor swaps & other sundries in the backyard garage in the '70-80s, undoubtedly this vice came in handy. As the son hasn't lived in his mom's house for a few decades and no longer wrenches on cars, I thought I'd rescue it. Columbian 604-M2 machinist's vise. Disassembled, de-greased/de-rusted, stripped 5 coats of paint off (red, silver, blue, orange, black), deburred, painted 2 coats of Rustoleum (could maybe use another, but it's a vise), greased & reassembled. Works real nice, pretty heavy construction. Luckily for a guy trying …

So, the other night I drove my 98 Buick LeSabre (about 92,000 miles on the clock) about 23 miles home and the car was running perfectly. I pulled it into the drive way and parked it. Next morning it didn't start, turned over but no fire. So I call AAA and have them tow it to a close dealership within my free towing circle. I haven't exactly liked this dealership in the past since they broken the piece in the steering wheel that holds the horn wire in place and after going back in forth I gave up and ghetto fixed it with a q-tip. They are a Buick dealership, not that it matters but I just suspect they see similar cars so it's not a new car to them. Any way the tow guy sh…

So I had some circa '71 GM seatbelt buckles laying around, left over from the Cutlass days (these didn't work because GM had changed the buckle/harness design in '72). Deciding not to let them go to waste, I decided it would be cool to put them to good use. After a few cigarettes, some glue and thread, and a cheap-o Dickies strap I had snagged for free later, I had this: Yeah, the pic sucks. Cut my 3GS some slack. Sure, Levy's makes a seat belt strap, but it's nowhere as cool as this. While Levy's claims that they use real, recycled buckles, you only have to take one look at their straps to see that it's obvious they're just blowing hot air. However, this is made from…

I've been a member of Planet Fitness since 2006. It's OK I guess. I mean, for $15/month, what do you want? A while back I was robbed there when a miscreant broke my puny lock and stole all the cash out of my wallet. Kinda put a chill on things. And before that I was growing ever more meh about the joint. So I stopped in to LA Fitness today and took the tour. Kid took me around and through the whole place. But kid giving tour lost points when the first thing he said when I tole him I am …

I've wanted to go to one of these events for the longest time...and finally this year I caught it 5 months ahead of time and had it on my calendar ever since. This weekend at Citizens Bank Park in Philly, the GM Main Street in Motion test drive event. Hot, sunny and breezy day today, PERFECT timing. Got there around 10am, to the site of Chevy Volt after Volt driving down the street and on a loop--the Volt was the one vehicle they had a large number of, and had preset a test route out of the track and onto the local streets for every test. Registration quick & easy, I hit the GMC truck & comparo tent first, right past the entry. Yukon Denali Hybrid, Sierra 2500HD…

I'll post out our CR-V issues in another thread, but suffice it to say that we have very good reason to start looking elsewhere soon for a CR-V replacement. His requirements: 1. AWD/4WD - non-negotiable 2. Best fuel economy possible 3. Heated seats (can be cloth) 4. cannot be too large, the Equinox is about the biggest he would got 5. low price 6. body style doesn't matter My requirements: 1. Prefer an American brand but not stuck on that for the right car. Right now, I'm thinking we look at the new Compass and the Kazashi.

Chinese Police Get In Hot Water With Mercedes ML Police Car William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com July 10, 2011 In the your not fooling anyone file, a police department in Fangchenggang (part of Guangxi Province)bought a new Mercedes Benz ML350 SUV to be used a police car. The police department spent about 900,000 yuan ($139,000 USD)to get it into their fleet. To fool the citizens of Fangchenggang, the department decided to rebadge the ML350 into a Honda CR-V which only costs about 200,000 yuan ($30,000 or so). The plan was foolproof or so they thought. As has been noted, I watch the license plate numbers, so I have a good idea of whats being newly plated in my neck of the woods. Now that C4C is a fading memory, I'm noticing a lot more "second tier" or "third tier" used cars being plated. Stuff that looks like it was languishing under a tree for a minor fault that has been pressed back into service. I'm seeing a lot of GM FWD A-bodies returning to service and more Ford Tempo/Topazes... stuff that tended to hold together better from the '82-'94 timeframe... sorry not a lot of Chrysler, or J-bodies. I'm also finding that a lot of '96-'01 stuff being sold have nasty mechanical problems... high mileage... and since I'm t…

This is my 'Save The Buick' jar. All the money I've put toward my '59 to date (and it's a lot) has been side money, or non paycheck money.... except for dimes. 2nd largest coin denomination (who regularly sees half- or whole dollar coins?), and not as 'in demand' around here as quarters. I just looked out my front window and there was a wild rabbit struggling to drag its hind quarters across the street toward my yard. Seeing how vulnerable the little guy was on the asphalt, I put on some shorts and gloves and went out. He was trying to get away as best he could, but his energy level was low, and after a few pathetic attempts to jump onto the curb, I grabbed him, and as he peed himself, I carried him to my back yard and left him there. It will take a miracle for him to survive long-term with natural predators about (our houses back to a corn field), but I hope his scared little face lives to see more sunrises. Godspeed, little bunny.

Horrible episode the other night in town. Stopped at a red light, crotch rocket in front of me first in line, cars behind me. Moron on said rocket decides to do a burnout to show off for some chicks on the sidewalk. He proceeds to blast the whole front of my vehicle with bits of burnt rubber and engulfs me in tire smoke. I could hear the crap pelting the car. So when the light turned green I gunned it and followed him, raging. I passed him and cut him off immediately before another red light. He pulled up beside me and starts to get testy, so I let him have a verbal barrage of my own. When the light turned green he kicked the side of my car and took off. Next red…

just kind of a loose thread to get everyone's thoughts on all the new compacts and subcompacts out there. Lots of nice new entries and now some of them have been on the road for awhile..... here's a few random thoughts I have had. Seen several new Focus on the road, but they seem bland and egglike to me. Sort of like Contour 2.0. Not enough definition. Still, not at all ugly...just a little underwhelming now that they have been out. I do like the interiors, although they feel cramped. Lack of 6 speed manual bugs me. Still like the Cruze Eco although I think the Focus has a nicer interior. Been seeing more new Jettas now. Warming up to them on the outside. Depe…

There's really only one thing which can be said to accurately depict my reaction to this movie: With that out of the way, I really enjoyed this movie, and going by the audience applause and cheering at the end, so did a lot of other people. It's far better than the second movie and better than the first. There's a much better defined a plot, nods to the series, the main characters have actual depth now and there's some pretty emotional moments. The Deceptions can be genuinely scarey at times and the action scenes are incredible. It's not Hamlet, but totally worth seeing if you're a Transformers fan.

WASHINGTON – States cannot ban the sale or rental of ultraviolent video games to children, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, rejecting such limits as a violation of young people's First Amendment rights and leaving it up to parents and the multibillion-dollar gaming industry to decide what kids can buy. The high court, on a 7-2 vote, threw out California's 2005 law covering games sold or rented to those under 18, calling it an unconstitutional violation of free-speech rights. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia, said, "Even where the protection of children is the object, the constitutional limits on governmental action apply." Scalia, who pointed out the viol…

First there was Red Dawn and Footloose, now Mr. Mom, RoboCop, and WarGames??? http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/797-wargames-remake-coming-from-king-of-kong-director Has Hollywood run out of creative writers? Or is it that '80s movies are coming up on being 30 years old now and that's the magic age for remaking them???

I would have to sell my '81 Fender Bullet so that I could have the rest of the money to buy it, but it might just be worth it: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/2451007578.html Of course, I'd want to do a full on '99 conversion with it; front clip, interior, and wheels. Finding a donor Cherokee for that would be easy and cheap enough. Here's also a runner up: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/2464101824.html

Chevy Dealer Has 13 Caprice PPVs for Public Sale Like the rest of humanity, car enthusiasts are driven wild by cars they can’t have. So whether you’re talking about the ricers who spend a small fortune to import legitimate JDM Nissan Skylines, or millionaire Mopar fans who drop a million bucks on a bonafide HEMI ‘Cuda, people have proven that they are willing to pay a premium to own a car that almost nobody else has. But there are some cars that the public is just not supposed to get, like the 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV. This vehicle is for sale to police departments only. But thanks to a loophole in the contract with GM, a Maryland car dealership has 13 of these Australia…

Thanks to "liability issues" both Pep Boys and Tires Plus refuse to fix tractor tires. So, I'm screwed out of a good weather day to get the blasted fields cut. Boy, am I pissed.

So my friend is likely going to buy a CPO TrailBlazer on Tuesday. However, the dealer told him that the 2 year/30k mile maintenance that is included in the program is only good if he has the service done at their dealership. I'm pretty sure this is not correct, and that you can get the service done at an GM CPO dealer. However, I can't find anything that says so definitely either way. They claimed that the 2 year/30k mile was only good at their dealership, but the 12 month/12k mile bumper to bumper warranty is good anywhere, which doesn't make any sense to me. The dealer is reimbursed by GM for the oil change and tire rotations, so I don't see why it matters which dealer…

I'm in love.... Oh, and pardon the crappy iPhone pix; I haven't had a chance to snap any good photos yet. I actually like this grill set up better than the SRT8 This one only had 2 miles on it when I started my trip.

Missed last year's show since the wife was pregnant and was due in July - she didn't want me 2 1/2 hours away "just in case" But so far nothing's in the way this year!!

I'm sure we all could think of at least one thing we picked up on from our fathers growing up. List 'em here in honor of father's day. For me, one cool thing my dad taught me was to never skimp on quality when it comes to tools. A good, well made tool will always get the job done, and is worth its weight in gold.

I have a neighbor who just made an automotive purchase that made me stop and think. He bought a late 70s/early 80s VW Rabbit. But not just any Rabbit, a Rabbit diesel. The car itself is in very good shape since it came from the southwest, but that isn't the kicker. The kicker is the mileage he's getting with this thing. 52 MPG Even better, he brews his own bio-diesel at a cost of .47/gal. Somehow, I think the rest of us lost something along the way from the late 70s to 2011. Made me stop and think.

Extremely said day for anyone who has an appreciation of these old warbirds. Apparently there was a fire on engine #2 shortly after takeoff. The pilot found a field and made a successful emergency landing. Everyone on board escaped. At the time teh fire was small and it was thought the plane could be saved. However the firefighters sat and watched it burn, claiming that the ground was too soft for the trucks to drive on. This last part really aggravates me. Last time I checked, an 18 ton plane weighs more than a firetruck. yet they made a successful landing on said field. And to add insult to injury, footage shows the lazy bastards with their trucks on the field half-ass…

I went to bed at like 9 last night. I have the windows open in the house. Around 10:25 I am awakened by a freaking basketball being dribbled and smacked against a backboard... next-door neighbors are standing outside with a bunch of friends talking, and two young girls (about 8 and 10) are playing with this basketball in the dark (one of them repeatedly remarks that she can't see the ball!). WTF. This went on for at least a half hour. And the adults are oblivious to the problem. I live on a cul-de-sac, and none of the rest of us here ever makes noise, let alone at inappropriate hours of the night. I really wish I could use a Jedi mind trick to get them to move out …

So this Spring I've been working to make our yard a nicer place. The back/side yard has been, since we moved her last year, a barren expanse of mostly dirt and some weeds. That's all changing, as there is now grass growing quite well there, after some tilling, seeding, and watering. Soon it'll be time fort eh first mow. We've been using my Uncle's mower for the rest of the yard, but I want my own. When I was younger I used to fix mowers and I kinda miss doing that. A search on Craigslist lands me a Brute 22" Self-Propelled mower. Owner said he bought it last year and used it until the engine died and the manufacturer wouldn't warranty it, so he decided to get rid of it.…

So yup I was behind a mighty tall, spotless black, '02-ish Silverado crew cab with a finned aluminum differential cover and crooked dual exhaust pipes out the back. As we approached an intersection, the road divided into two lanes at the stop light. I went into the left lane, pulled up next to the truck and yelled out to the driver "hey, your left one is hanging a little low." He said "Wut?", kinda nodded toward the back of the truck and said "Oh, thanks." At which point I drove off. Last week I ran up and told the girl in front of me while we were at a red light that she had no brake lights on her Elantra... but it wasn't as fun for some reason.

Delta Charges U.S. Troops Returning From Afghanistan $2,800 In Baggage Fees WASHINGTON -- Delta Air Lines is facing intense criticism after charging 34 U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan $2,800 in baggage fees. The incident came to light on Tuesday after a couple of the new-media savvy soldiers recorded a video about their ordeal and posted it on YouTube. "We showed up and found out we had too many bags," said Army Staff Sgt. Robert O'Hair in the video, which was shot on their flight. "We had four bags, and Delta Air Lines only allows three bags. Anything over three bags you have to pay for, even though there's a contract between the United States government and …

Stopped off at the gym this morning. Was on treadmill for 25 minutes, felt good, got off and went in for a shower. Found my lock busted on the locker, twisted so I couldn't open it. Got an employee to cut the lock the rest of the way off, but the latch on the locker was also broken. After using a screwdriver to open the busted latch, I went through my stuff to find all my cash missing from my wallet, but everything else intact. The shift manager called the local police. In the meantime, I had to call and cancel my two credit cards and, to be safe, order a new bank card. After the officer interviewed me, two other customers walked over and told me of similar events …

ocn's vacation, day 1: So, one or two of you may recall a thread on my first service visit with my Fiesta. It was to get a second key programmed for the car. That key was incorrectly cut by someone at Ford, so round two was necessary. This morning was round two. I got to the dealership at 7:50 for my 8:00 appointment for something that should take about 3 minutes. At about 8:40 I started doing the bad customer thing... I started walking around outside the shop, looking for my car. Found it. Tech was in his bay, at a desk on a laptop, looking up info on how to do the programming. He was stumped. I walked in and introduced myself as the car owner. He said the key…
