William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 24, 2012 The only way to tell the difference between the current Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra is by slight differences in trim and equipment. That will be changing for the next generation models. Mark Reuss, GM’s North American President said during an interview that the next generation pickup trucks, due out in 2014 will be more distinctive. The plan is to move the Sierra more upmarket with more standard equipment, more distinctive sheetmetal and corresponding higher sticker prices. A plan like this has worked for GMC's SUV lineup. “I think you will see equipment and models attacked very differently. I…

GMC Sierra Denali EV Edition 1 Pickup Truck, this allows GM to lead the industry with 3 all electric pickups which include the GMC Hummer EV Truck and the Chevrolet Silverado EV Truck. VP of Global Buick and GMC Duncan Aldred had this to say about the GMC Sierra Denali EV truck: “This is the Denali of EVs — and a truck that is every bit a GMC,” “That means it leaves nothing on the table when it comes to hauling, towing and overall power while unlocking even more possibilities around what a GMC pickup can offer.” GMC will lead the industry in not only having two trucks but also the GMC Hummer SUV and in 2025 you will be able to order a GMC Sierra AT4 EV and …

Hi there. I have a problem with my 93 Astro. It is mechanically sound, but will shut down for no reason we've yet been able to determine. Some days it will run all day without any problems, some days it will run for 20 minutes and then ... nothing. There aren't any unusual noises associated with it, it just stops and refuses to start. The mechanics who have so far looked at the problem have thought that it might be any of the following: crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel sender relay, or the computer. If anyone has any ideas, has had this problem, or can direct me to a resource that will better be able to assist me with it, I'd appreciate it a whole lot. The vehicle is…

Ok guys, I need someone's help that maybe works at the factory or a dealership. I just ordered my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, well, it will be a while till I get it, so I was in my office just going through the brochure, reading about all my new goodies coming my way and noticed a discrepancy. When I filled out the order form in the audio section, it was an extra $300 or so for the in dash 6 disc changer on the radio. I hardly listen to CD's so I just took the single CD because it didn't cost any extra. However, looking through the brochure, I notice that on the SLT trim that I picked, the 6 disc in dash is standard with that trim package? Called my dealer and asked if he co…

Somewhere I saw an drawing of a 2009 GMC minivan. It was included in a photo gallery of some of the NAIS vehicles. If the vehicle was produced, it would at least give GM a shot at making up some lost ground in the minivan market. Chevy and GMC should make minivans instead of Saturn, Pontiac and Buick. Lutz should have demanded that the Venture had a slight facelift and destroyed the Uplander and its boring siblings. To me the 1984 Astro was more attractive than the 2004 Uplander.

Can you smell what the General is cooking? MIAMI – The GMC division of General Motors will sponsor the September 8 Miami premier of the new movie, “Gridiron Gang”, starring actor and sports entertainer, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The event will take place at the Shops at Sunset Place at 9:30 p.m. “Gridiron Gang” is based on a true story about two juvenile detention camp probation officers who turn a group of troubled teens into a disciplined high school football team in four weeks, while teaching them self-respect and responsibility. The movie’s Miami premiere and after-party will serve as a fundraiser for Dwayne Johnson’s new non-profit organization, The ROCK Foun…

So the mid size trucks GM will have as an option the 2.8L Duramax with 200 hp/370 lb-ft. I have been searching but have not found anything on what the hauling and towing estimates will be. Does anyone have a idea either backed by engine know how of what these trucks can haul or have seen any GM documentation that would indicate what it can haul / Tow? I have been searching for the over seas spec and not found it yet, but then not very good doing a search for this info. Please post if you find it.

"To me, there is more room for SUVs in the GMC stable. An obvious place for GMC to be if it expands is that small SUV segment," said Duncan Aldred, head of Buick and GMC last August. It seems GMC planning such an expansion if new spy shots are to be believed. It is difficult to tell whether or not this is a GMC as the two test mules are under numerous layers of camouflage. But we can make out the brand's slotted grille in the front. For some time, we had been hearing murmurs about GMC possibly building a Jeep Wrangler fighter. But judging from these photos, it seems that it will be a subcompact crossover to compete against the Jeep Renegade and Ford EcoSport. Ac…

Aside from the turbo-four engine, the 3.0L Duramax diesel inline-six for the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 has us very intrigued. General Motors has been quiet on power figures and fuel economy for this engine since announcing this engine earlier in the year. But thanks to a crafty person who got some photographs off of GM Canada’s dealer site, we now have some figures. The photos were posted by TFL Truck and reveal the diesel engine produces 282 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque - 32 horsepower and 10 pound-feet more than the F-150's 3.0L PowerStroke diesel. GM also claims a highway fuel economy figure of 28 mpg - about two mpg less tha…

It will actually be his personal vehicle, but he's a real basics kind of guy and didn't want power anything or carpeted floors. So he finally found a dealer that had, or I should say would pick up, what he wanted. A white 2007 GMC Sierra Ext Cab 2WD with 4.8L V8. Crank windows, manual door locks, and hose-out flooring. Only option other than the extended cab is cloth seats instead of vinyl. He haggled the dealer down to $22,500, including tax and licensing fees, from $24,900 excluding tax and fees. Plus 0% interest, and I think he's putting $2-3k down, so he got a damn good deal, IMO. I'll see if I can get pictures and his impressions when he picks it up this week…

The Jeep Wrangler really has no equal. Sure competitors come on the scene to try and take on the Wrangler, but they go away after awhile - see the Toyota FJ Cruiser as the latest example. But that isn't stopping automakers from taking a stab at it. Case in point is GMC. Buick-GMC vice president Duncan Aldred tells Edmunds that is looking at strengthening the brand by looking at the possibility of introducing new models. "We are looking at everything. What segments will grow? What segments will not? We are evaluating all possibilities that could really turbocharge the brand and the growth," said Aldred. Aldred says at the current time, GMC is in the brainstorming stage …

Okay, so I'm new to all of this, had a quick question. How difficult is it to find a 78 GMC 3/4 ton? Been looking around and have only seen this one which happens to be for sale right down the road from me. It looks a little rough around the edges but still seems to be running very well. Was wondering what would seem like a fair price just based on what you can see, and if it doesn't seem worth it, how hard are these to find? Any help or advice would be very appreciated.

GMC had a bit of a surprise for the Dubai International Motor Show with the Desert Fox Middle East truck concept. Desert Fox was a special package available on the 1977 GMC C/K 1500 pickup that featured a tan (Buckskin) exterior color with color stripes running along the sides and hood. The package also featured a brush guard, bed mounted sports bar, additional lights, and tan colored wheels. This package was also available for the Jimmy SUV. This Sierra 1500-based concept brings this package into the modern era with the same paint color and stripe layout. It also comes outfitted with some off-road goodies such as an off-road bumper with a winch, beadlock wheels…

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 GMC Acadia We learned a few facts that surprised us while driving the all-new 2007 GMC Acadia. First, GMC is The General's second best-selling division behind Chevrolet. In fact, GMC's sales are up more than 80 percent since 1991, and it's had record sales in 11 of the last 13 years. The division has also found great success in its "Denali" branding, with those premium versions making up nearly half of all sales for every model line that offers them. GM representatives expect similar success from the upcoming Sierra Denali line. So why would a division with this much success at selling pure "trucks" want to dip its tow ratings in the crossover…

Anyone know about proposed modifications for the Acadia later in this model year or in 2008? In particular, my wish list would include: (1) a back up camera to go with the navigation unit- already planned for the Enclave; (2) rain sensing wipers- I love these on my VW Jetta; (3) preservation of the 6 disc CD when navigation is ordered; (4) having a DVD slot on the rear entertainment system unit itself; (5) availability of Bluetooth; (6) availability of a tan/beige interior as an option; and (7) amber rear turning signals- far easier to see than red ones, from my perspective.

Big-Time Launch GM's upcoming full-size pickups arguably the company's most important new vehicles in years AutoWeek | Published 07/31/06, 5:42 pm et General Motors is introducing its next-generation full size pickup trucks, the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, two trucks that could help lead the General out of its financial doldrums. GM says the trucks have been redesigned from top to bottom: They have new exterior and interior designs, new engines and new chassis. The Silverado and Sierra are offered with three cab styles, three cargo box lengths and several suspensions setups. GM hopes the range gives customers more choice when trying to suit their …

The Ram 1500 has a diesel option and recently updated Ford F-150 will be getting one in the near future. What about General Motors' full-size pickups? Some new spy photos reveal that it could be in the cards for the next-generation models. Somehow, a spy photographer was able to get underneath a GMC Sierra mule to find what appears to be a tank for diesel exhaust fluid and a diesel particulate filter - key items you need to sell a diesel in the U.S. Of course, the question arises of what engine is under the hood. Various reports say it could range from a 3.0L V6 from Navistar to the 2.8L Duramax four-cylinder found in the Colorado/Canyon (we're a bit dubious on this …

GMC seems to be following Chevrolet's idea of offering different versions of its trucks to suit different buyers. Case in point is the recently revealed 2019 Sierra 1500 Elevation. Starting with the double cab variant, GMC adds a combination of body-color and backed-out accents, along with a set of 20-inch wheels finished in black. Under the hood resides the recently unveiled turbocharged 2.7L four-cylinder producing 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Optional engines include the 5.3L V8 with 355 horsepower and the 3.0L turbodiesel inline-six. You will have the choice of two or four-wheel drive. I'm wanting to buy an Envoy, but before I buy a 2007 I'd like to get a preview of what they are going to change in the redesigned 2008 models. I'd hate to buy a 2007 and then a couple months later wish I had waited for the 2008. However, I don't care for the change of the 2006 Yukon to the 2007 Yukon design. GMC is primarily a truck brand. However, why not make it live up to the name General Motors Commercial. 1)GMC should not be availible for non-commercial costumers. GMCs would be sold wholesale to its commercial costumers.Saturn would take on selling non-commercial costumer models. 2)GMC would have two versions of every major type of GM vehicle sold in the US, the 2 types are Basic(Entry)& Denali(luxury). 3)This would liberate GM's 5 main brands from official fleet sales. Any fleet buyer would get the same cars as other costumers. Only personal changes to product may be made for disabilties, etc. 4)Pontiac & Buick would no longer need to worry about s…

Hello Everybody, Let me start off by saying I know very little about cars. I'm a software engineer by trade so please keep that in mind as you respond to my post(s). I know most of the basic components work. I can fix a flat and change my oil but that's about it. Here's my story: I've been contemplating for the past, oh I don't know...year and a half, about buying a new car. I'm at the point in my life (and career for that matter) where I can afford to buy myself something nice. During that time, the Sierra Denali has been front and center in my thinking. I haven't really been thinking about it all that seriously though because I don't really drive that much any…

For the 2018 Model Year, Chevy gave the Tahoe an RST package for some extra sporting pizzazz and more recently introduced the RST Performance package on the Suburban. The RST removed chrome, blacked out grilles, and added custom wheels. Upgrading to the performance package brought on the 6.2 liter V8, 10-Speed automatic transmission, and GM's Magnetic Ride Control. At GMC, the only way to get those performance upgrades was to first check the box on the order form that said "Denali". One of our intrepid readers lurking around the GM Fleet Order Guide (Hat-tip: @ocnblu) found that GMC is planning to offer a virtually identical set of packages on the Yukon for 2019. …

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/01/2015-gmc-canyon-whats-the-difference.html Mark Williams wrote a good article on the differences with the 2015 GMC Canyon and 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. I've got to say while I was impressed with the Colorado when it was first shown last month in Los Angeles, I wasn't 'wowed' enough. I figured if the Canyon was a rebadge of the Colorado (a'la 2004), then my next vehicle decision (Sierra) was easily made. No such luck; I'll have some thinking and planning to do here

It won't be too long before GMC reveals its counterpart to the brand new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. Automotive News reporting that GMC will be holding an event on March 1st in Detroit to reveal the 2019 Sierra. Expectations are that the Sierra will be differentiated from its Silverado sibling. Previous spy shots seem to indicate this with a different front end treatment on the Sierra. There is talk that the Sierra will also get some changes for the interior. The 2019 Sierra specs will likely match up to the Silverado with a longer wheelbase, weighing up to 450 pounds less than the outgoing model, spacious cargo bed, and an available power tailgate. I was wondering if anybody knew why the GMC Sierra is priced higher than a compliably equipped Chevy Silverado. Based on MSRG's listed from both websites, the base price for a Chevy Silverado 1LT, 2WD extended cab is $26,860. A Sierra SLE1 3SA, 2WD extended cab lists for $27,455. Unless I am overlooking something, both trucks have the identical features and options. Another price difference is on the Max Trailering Package. Chevy list price is $1,685 and GMC's is $2,265. Both packages are identical. Personally, I prefer the looks of the GMC over the Chevy. I was leaning towards purchasing the Sierra, but Chevy appears to be a better bargain. I will have to admit tha…

Hey guys, not quite sure if this is where this thread belongs, but hopefully if not, It will get moved. I didn't know if the dealers typically follow a pattern in rebates through the months of the year. I ordered a new 2500HD and it will be here in February. DIdn't know if that was traditionally a bad month and hopefully they usually give bigger rebates then???????? I believe they're somewhere around $1500-2000 now. It will be my first ever new vehicle purchase, so I don't have any past experience with new car rebates to go back on. Thanks in advance.

Next time you're over to the YouTube on the internets, check out this guy's channel. He's out in Oregon where trucks don't rust away to nothing. http://www.youtube.com/user/ElderlyIron?feature=watch He's got a lot of videos uploaded, so you might have to look around, but his GMC finds and Redneck Restorations are pretty cool to watch.

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 8, 2012 Last March, we got our hands on a spy picture of what was a Denali version of the GMC Terrain. The mule had a blacked out honeycomb grill and a new square, chrome exhaust tip. We though the Terrain Denali would be coming sometime this year. Well, we were right on except the year. Automotive News reports that sources inside GM say Terrain Denali is a go. The reason to building a Denali version are to keep the sales momentum going for the Terrain (2011 saw a 37% increase in sales). Building a more luxurious version of the Terrain could attract more buyers, with Denali vehicles seeing a 79% increase last…
