First of all, I'm sorry to say I have no pictures. I went with a friend of mine and it was pushing his attention span as it was, and I didn't want to try his patience waiting to get that perfect angle. However, I saw a decent amount of metal so I'll write up my text impressions here: Ford Fiesta: I was never too agog over the Fiesta, but it was nice to see one in person. The sedan was quite ungainly I think; it was definitely not designed with a notchback in mind, much like the Versa. A jellybean with creases. The hatch was also present, in Top Gear mini-mall green, which looked much more cohesive. The interior looked fine, but I'm still not sure why this car generated s…

Drop-Top Hummer to Make Detroit Debut Date posted: 01-04-2006 SOUTHGATE, Mich. — Auto supplier American Specialty Cars (ASC) will introduce two open-top concepts at the Detroit auto show next week, including the Hummer H3 Cosmos, the first convertible version of the popular SUV. ASC says the Cosmos has a fabric-top system that can open the truck's cabin to the elements or cover just the passenger or cargo areas. ASC's second concept, which has yet to be announced, will feature a panoramic sunroof. Last year, ASC worked its convertible magic on the Chrysler 300C, creating the Helios, a four-door convertible that drew much attention at the 2005 North American Int…

This year's edition of the New York Custom Car Show has been canceled. This 3 day annual event has been a Thanksgiving feature on Long Island for over 40 years. Sadly, a victim of the poor economy. The organizers have decided to not hold the show this year in anticipation of a bigger and better re-birth in 2010. We wish them all the best.

This was my first time seeing the coupe in person. Both variants look much better in the flesh than pictures show. The rear styling on the sedan is pretty awkward looking though! Interior materials and fit and finish is very good. The wall of buttons and general style is not that fantastic. It gives of a kind of "not bad but not great" vibe. I don't know why, but the passenger side airbag cover came off completely. I swear I wasn't trying to break anything! Note the granny special gold Accord in the tent.

Jessica and I went to the New England International Auto Show on Sunday (yesterday) It was sweet! This is also my first real auto show that I've been to. Since it's late and I have almost 200 photos to go through...I'll start posting tomorrow! I'll also post some in-depth comments on various vehicles I sat in, including the Nitro, 300 SRT-8, Equinox, LS, Fusion, Navigator, Elantra, XK, Sebring Limited, Ram Mega Cab, Tundra and several GMT-900s including the Silverado. A few other highlights: I have one major complaint about the GMT-900s...why do none of them have a driver's side grab-handle? Even the Chevy representative couldn't figure it out. I made a Buick re…

One of the Mercedes CLS sedans up on a display turntable had a burned-out taillamp. A few others... *Quite an interest in the Lucerne from more than your typical Buick clientele. *Nice comments regarding the Solstice, Torrent, Terraza, LaCrosse, HHr, Impala, and DTS. *A $35k-ish Charger R/T and $30k Mercury Montego both have hood props?! Paris Preview: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Friday, we brought you the initial report that Audi would be dropping a 6.0-liter V12 TDI based on it's Le Mans-winning engine into the Q7 SUV. That report has been confirmed today with the release of additional details and photos from Audi, which will publicly unveil the beast later this month at the Paris show. Our initial report rated the car at 500 hp, but it's actually just shy, at 493 (the 500 rating is in PS). It also generates 1000 Nm / 738 lb-ft of torque, so if you ever feel inclined to pull your house off its foundation, you'll be well-prepped to give it the 'ol college try (if the car makes it to this side of the Atlantic). …

RÜSSELSHEIM, Germany — The Opel Insignia OPC will debut in early May at the 2009 Barcelona Auto Show, with the first deliveries to European customers to begin this fall. Developed by the Opel Performance Center, the Insignia OPC's turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 develops 321 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Delivering power to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine enables the Insignia OPC to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Ride height has been reduced by 0.4 inch, and the engineers have fitted high-performance front struts and improved the steering. The adaptive suspension is preprogrammed in three modes: standard, Sport and OPC. Also…

November 30, 2005 Glimpse into the 2006 Detroit auto show. by Mathieu St-Pierre , Auto123.com As is the case every year, the North American International Auto Show is quite the show. At this point, 6 weeks away from the car event of the continent, over 30 unveilings have been scheduled. For the 2005 show, all the car manufacturers combined for just over 60 premiers and concepts. This means that we should expect the number to double over the next few weeks for the 2006 Extravaganza. So far, nearly every builder that sells their product in North America has indicated that they will have something for everyone. Here is a brief list of what to expect: Audi Q7 SUV…

So, we'll start this 4 months early... What are you hoping for/expecting to come around this next autoshow season? I'm hoping for the following... GM: Camaro production (or convertible), Impala concept, GTO concept (I want to see at least two Zetas + Camaro) Ford: Mercury Cougar on Mustang platform DC: 2008 Viper Mazda: RX8/RX7 successor Toyota: RWD Sportscar (Supra?) Mitsubishi: EVO X Nissan: 350Z redesign and/or Skyline production That's pretty much all I'm asking for, and I have a feeling most of these will happen. *Note: I didn't include trucks, SUVs, etc. simply because I could care less. The above are what I personally hope for.

December 23, 2005 Lots to ogle in L.A. and Detroit By Tony Whitney The holiday season will have barely finished before the 2006 auto show season begins in early January. At the Los Angeles auto show, vehicles will be unveiled to the media on January 6th, while in Detroit, media unveilings will begin on January 8th 2006. CanadianDriver will have daily coverage beginning on January 6th. The proximity of the two shows has always been a bit of a conflict, so L.A. show organizers have decided to switch to November/December dates in 2006. That means there are two L.A. shows in 2006, one early in the year and one later on. For 2007, there's just one L.A. show in l…

Just curious if C&G has or is having any type of meet. Anybody else going to be there Monday the 16th? As of now that is my planned time to go.

It looks like Chrysler wants something even bigger than the huge test track that they had at last year’s show and GM has “agreed” to split up their brands at the now 1.2-million square-foot Chicago Auto Show next year. Cadillac, HUMMER and Saab will be moving into the North Hall, along with the luxury imports. We can look at this two ways: it sucks that GM, which has been on a bender to remind everyone what brands are GMs, has to split up their luxury marques BUT having them nestled in with the import luxury brands could be a boon for Sabb and Cadillac. http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_chicago_auto_show_6/index.htm

I don't typically like small cars because they are often unattractive...but this has to be one of the nicest looking tiny cars I've ever seen. The Daihatsu D-Compact X-Over debuting at the Paris Auto Show this month.

Lots of cool ideas... http://www.laautoshow.com/2007/DC/start.htm GM won the past two years, with the Hummer O2 (I think) and some GMC trailer.

Went to the auto show today... GM had none of their new concepts, and only two '08 models --a Malibu LTZ and Enclave-- (no '08 CTS, '08 G8) on display. The Camaro concept was there in red, looks great in red. The Malibu and Enclave looked really, really good. The G6 convertible looks better in person, neat in top-up hardtop mode. The G6 GXP sedan, on the other hand...giant ugly grilles. Cadillac had some hotties talking up the cars. Over at the Ford stand, the Lincoln MKR and Ford Interceptor were in attendance, along with a concept coupe (don't recall it's name, kind of like a modern Cobra Daytona? GR-S or something?). The '08 Focus 4dr was there, along w…

I thought it'd be good to start a list of everything we might see this upcoming auto show season. This list isn't complete by any means, and I didn't list what show that each vehicle will debut at since most aren't known for sure. The one's with question marks are just guesses and are by no means for sure going to debut. Everyone can add to the list since I probably will forget a lot of things, so just post what I forgot then I'll edit this post. I decided to do it by corporation: GM Buick Enclave LaCrosse Super (?) Cadillac Escalade/ESV/EXT Chevy Suburban Silverado (?) Camaro (concept) Avalanche Aveo (?) (North American d…

Under the Big Tops Global auto show scene in transition By BOB GRITZINGER AutoWeek | Published 09/08/06, 10:52 am et When auto show season kicks off in earnest at the biennial enthusiasts’ lovefest in Paris later this month, news about the auto shows themselves might steal some headlines from the car premieres. Changes in the Los Angeles show epitomize what is diff¬erent on the global auto show scene: Los Angeles gets official “international” designation and is moving to a new early-December slot for this year, and early November for 2007 and beyond on the annual calendar. For the past 25 years, when the L.A. show convened at New Year’s or immediately therea…

From Autoweek: New Volkswagen honcho Wolfgang Bernhard is big on dreams: working on them, driving them, making them come true, and VW is clearly dreaming big with its newest drop-top, which went from concept (in the form of the Concept C) to production reality in just 18 months. The four-place cabrio/coupe features a nifty, retractable five-section hardtop roof, five engine choices ranging from 115 to 250 hp and transmission options including the DSG direct-shift gearbox. The Eos will launch next spring in Europe and should hit the States sometime later in '06.

Link GM will be showing 4 concept cars along with 8 world premieres at the show. I'm not sure what exactly is debuting, but we did hear a while back that there would be a Chevy concept that shows off the future styling direction for Chevy. Apparantly the new Aveo is making it's European debut, and the Astra TwinTop will be there as well. I'm still not sure what else is debuting though.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=107193 Rumor has it that the C30's inspiration will come from this safety concept: Volvo's Smallest C30 Hatch to Debut at Detroit Show Date Posted 09-09-2005 DETROIT — Volvo will pull the wraps off its newest — and smallest — vehicle, the C30, in January at the North American International Auto Show here. The C30 will go on sale next fall in the United States as a 2007 model. Volvo first announced its intention earlier this year to launch the C30 at the Detroit show but provided few details. Sources say the car will be built on Ford's C1 global small-car platform, which underpins the Volvo S40 sedan and…

I have spent the last couple of weeks putting up some information regarding the exhibits coming up at the NAIAS. After constantly checking here for updates and information regarding the creative concepts that the car companies are trying this year, I have decided to register and share the site with you all. It can be viewed at offstaging.blogspot.com. There has been so much information this year released in regards to exhibits that it'll be interesting to see if it enhances or takes away from the cars themselves. Most recent post includes renderings of some of the displays: GM, Honda, Infinity, etc. Look forward to hearing what you all have to say as I plan o…

Show Reflects Diversity of L.A. Auto Market Posted on 1/3/06 3:30 p.m. CST Advertisements hyping this year's Greater Los Angeles Auto Show feature two cars: the $1.2 million, 1,001-horsepower Bugatti Veyron supercar and the Honda Civic Hybrid — a seemingly disparate pair of rides that, collectively, sum up the quintessential and often fantastical L.A. driving experience. The show's general manager Andy Fuzesi noted that Southern California itself represents the market's extremes, as the largest market both for exotic cars and hybrids. The 2006 Veyron will make its North American debut at the show, which will be open for media and industry previews Ja…

Could we have a pin of the Autoshow schedules for the year? I'm thinking about attending Detroit and NYC. I don't know when they are. It might be nice to also sync up with other C&Gers who are going to be attending.
