Only a few months after General Motors and Lyft formed an alliance, the two are planning to test a fleet of self-driving Chevrolet Bolt electric taxis on public roads. Specific details about the testing are still be working out, but a Lyft executive said it will include customers in an undisclosed city. Link So because US automakers make better large vehicles and therefore sell more they get penalized more? Was CAFE dreamed up by politicians that don't understand math? Seems like required mileage ratings should depend on the class of vehicle. I'm not opposed to gas mileage requirements but it's really not going to force construction companies to trade their 1-ton work truck for a Honda Civic. Trucks are still needed, and this penalizes companies who make good ones and therefore sell more. This is going to hurt US industry more in the process. Did I miss something?

Will the Ultra V8 have HCCI? I was browsing today & came across the news from the Geneva auto show about GM's new 2.9l V6 diesel. It rang a bell for me, so I rummaged through some old bookmarks and came across this post. I originally dismissed the post as being nonsense or unbelievable, but now with the 2.9l being officially announced, it makes me wonder about the 4.5l V8 being mentioned -- is it the Ultra V8 rumored to replace the Northstar? HCCI huh? Sounds cool!

The Detroit-based firm said directors had met on Friday to discuss the options but "no decision was taken". An assessment on whether to start exclusive talks to buy German-based Opel had been expected at the weekend. General Motors Corp. and workers at its assembly plant in suburban Moraine have reached a tentative contract agreement that would put the facility in position to build a new generation of sport utility vehicles, a GM official said Wednesday. The Employee Pricing Scheme is over so now it appears that a person shopping for a new 2008 would have to pay more for one than they would have paid in September. Something is fundamentally wrong with that picture. The incentives available on the 2008 are tantamount to a joke, given that these cars are held over; the 2009's are already out. What is GM thinking? What are these dealers thinking? That the economy will suddenly improve and people will flood GM showrooms, willing to be pounded on high gross profit deals?
