Well... I thought I'd post pics of all the other toys in my household... The Nighthawk 750: Don't mind the the sissy-bar. Yes, it's ugly, but my dad uses to to tie cargo down onto and it makes my mom more comfortable on it. Personally, I'd like to atleast get one that matches the bike. The "Piece of $h!": Love my letter decals? Yeah... it's $h!ty... I know... obvious, huh? The GT80: It's old... Amazingly, it was my dad's when he was a kid. We found it a few years ago and had to buy. Sometime between then, they swapped the frame and the fenders and stuff. The originals are in that box, as you can see. I have …

Don't have any pics...but here are the details. It's a 98 or 99 Z24 Convertible, Black with a tan top and tan interior. Yes I know it's ten years newer than what you want but... Female owned, owned by the wife of a police officer I know. (our company offices are across from the police station, and I talk to this guy once in awhile before work. Autotrajic, 52,000 original miles...don't think it's even ever been drivin in the rain. Weekend good weather fun toy only, one owner. Haven't seen the car...but I've seen the other car they are selling a 97 Mustang GT convertible and the Mustang is flawless. I've seen national award winning Mustangs and the Mustang the guy…

PART 1 ... SELECT QUOTES, Ambrose Bierce's "Devil's Dictionary": Arrest = Formally to detain one accused of unusualness Corporation = An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility Dictionary = A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work. Electricity = The cause of all natural phenomena not known to be caused by something else. I don't mean it in any disrepect to the US but I don't have to go down to Detroit anymore for college!!!! I am very pleased as it was going to cost a fortune. I just found out that Humber College in Toronto is the first school in Canada to offer Automotive Design. This is great so I can stay at home and drive down everyday. This school will also be cheaper to get into, don't need to pay for residence, and it is all in Canada within 45 minutes from me now. Now this is only bad for me in the aspect that: I probably won't be getting another car until I can save up for a relatively new commuter and I will have to commute everyday even in our nasty winters.

Yes, I'm ALREADY looking to my 2011 road trip. While I know about 2 car shows the last weekend of June 2011 in PA (GM Nationals, Carlisle; MC Nationals, York)...and the irony of the 2 shows being so close together with many people I know attending at least 1 of the 2 shows, it does not appear (at this point) that I will be able to go, due to lack of vacation time. Instead, since I have yet to travel to the northwest section of the United States during any of my road trips, that is where I'm heading.... In early June 2011, I may have the opportunity to travel with a Route 66 friend of mine along part of US Route 66 from Chicagoland to Amarillo TX. If that works out, th…

What I'm Driving...

"What does YellowJacket drive, I wonder...?" Oh, I know the question bugs you. Especially since I mention it here time to time. Is that a hint? It should be. What's that? Huh? You want to see the whole damn truck and not just a snippit of a badge? Alright then... That's it. That's what I'm forced to drive right now. Technically, it's my dad's truck. A 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab with four-wheel-drive; fully optioned except for an on-board compass (it does have an overhead console, though) and leather...if that was even an option on this truck. It has the infamous 318 Magnum V-8 -- which, by the way, 1999 was the last year for that engine in the 'Kota -- and t…

So this was probably a day or so after I bought it and I took it over to my parents for photos. For some reason I didn't look very happy. hahahahaha! What's interesting about this next one was that many years later I ultimately ended up driving that GMC Jimmy that was parked in front of the Camaro in the photo. When I got the Jimmy from my Dad (for painting his house) it had about 75000 miles on it. I ended up putting about 70000 miles on it myself before it got ruined during Hurricane Ike. I wish I had more pictures of this car at my house, but I have no idea where they would be. This was my 1988 Cutlass (it was a hand me down from parents). This was taken…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxaV8zdEu4 If GM was serious about maximizing fuel efficiency in a production model, why not revisit the 1992 GM Ultralite concept car with today's technological advances? Sorry, I was watching Demolition Man on TV this morning. I decided to Google more about this car and found the above YouTube video. This would seem to be a more viable option than going hybrid or electric. Food for thought!

So, I'm back home from another Saturday night on the town and it was pretty much like every other Saturday night for the last, oh, how many years? I've never been the type of person to go out with the intention of meeting anyone. That is just setting yourself up for for disappointment. I'm always open to the possibility, but I'm not the type to jump into anything on a whim. I have multiple 'bar' friends that I see regularly and talk to but, and I hope I'm not sounding like a complete jerk here, they aren't people that I want to do anything with on a social basis outside of the bar, much less anyone that I'd be interested in developing a relationship with. There just …

Crashes car into mall, and then steals clothes from mall to get dressed.... DALLAS - A man wearing no clothes crashed a stolen vehicle into the Southwest Center Mall and then proceeded to get out of the vehicle and dress himself in clothes from a Champs Sports store Friday morning, Dallas police said. The incident began with a woman being approached by a man wrapped in a blanket. The woman told police he came right up to her and stole her vehicle. It is unclear at this time if he used force or was armed at the time. The man then drove the vehicle through the entrance of the Southwest Center Mall, slamming kiosks and leaving behind major damage until coming to a halt …

Hot August Nights (and my vacation) is just over a month away and I for one can't wait. This year they raised the limit from 5000 to 5500 cars in the show and there are always thousands more that show up. Tammy and I will be heading south on July 30th with a bunch of other PNWCC members. So far we have 67, 68, & 69 Camaros, a 71 Chevelle, a 72 Skylark and who knows what else cruising down. We should have a couple of old Vettes as well in the convoy. Is anyone else planning on heading to Reno for this?

I recently posted 'how the EV tax credit works', but I had it wrong. Want to correct the gist of it here. I was under the incorrect impression that the credit offset the amount you owed when you FILED. My wife [who was an economics major, has worked for a major investment house for a few decades, does our taxes and is one smart cookie] explained to me the credit goes against the TOTAL fiscal tax liability. This would include any check you write at filing time AND your taxes paid during the year, most of which came out of your salary. The bottom line as explained to me by this smart cookie is, anyone who is remotely fiscally sane (income high enough to get financ…

If I were to get rid of the Riviera and no one wanted to buy it, would it be possible to put the interior into my Delta 88? The reason I'm think about this is because my favorite part of this generation Riviera is the dashboard and interior as a whole. It's retro enough to where it could work with an older car and yet modern enough to have the features I'm now used to. The comfy leather seats, the center console and arm rest. The dash and doors panels becoming "one" Besides the obvious needed measurements, what other challenges would lie ahead in trying to do this?

I'll road trip to the greater St Louis MO area 4 times in 2009; even so, the quick trip I took down there the weekend of March 14 was not long enough. It never is when you are meeting people and "catching up".... Friday the 13th, I went to work for a few hours, came home, picked up the rental (a Dodge Charger, of course), finished packing and left town about 2:10p. I made a beeline for St Louis (via RT 64 W, I-39 S, I-55 S and I-64 W), hoping to arrive for the ValveReplacement Reunion Friday night dinner. I stopped once, at a Shell station in Raymond IL just off I-55. I noticed a "Route 66" historical marker ... so, I suspect I was on Route 66 a bit. Unfortunately,…

The rules- 1)Production cars only. 2)Maximum of 5 choices. 3)These are your only vehicles. 4)Any era and market is allowed. 5)Choices must have a naturally aspirated engine with LESS than 5.0 of displacement. Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc. How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle? There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not .

Alright, so after a week of back-and-forth e-mailing with the owner of a slightly older used car I found for sale on a Craigslist ad, I'm planning to go check it out sometime today (likely in the early afternoon). Since it has been a LONG time since I shopped for a used car, and even then is was for a newer used car, is there a standard checklist to take along so I don't overlook anything? It would be a bonus if it was from a "Used Car Shopping for Dummies with little Mechanical Skills" book. If I like what I see, I will be asking to take it for a much more thorough inspection by an AA-approved mechanic. But I want to be able to perform a basic inspection so the selle…

NEW YORK - The cost of filling up the family car climbed to a record high Tuesday, adding to the challenges consumers already face with falling home values and rising food prices. Gas prices at the pump rose overnight to a record national average of $3.2272 a gallon, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. That’s a tad higher than the previous record of $3.2265, set last May. Soaring gas prices worsen the financial plight of consumers already suffering through a downturn in the housing market that has sharply reduced home prices in many markets and limited Americans’ ability to tap home equity for spending. Food prices are also on the rise, partly due …

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing. Sen. John McCain's running mate is the subject of a legislative investigation into whether she abused her power as governor by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner, Walter Monegan, says he was dismissed in July for resisting pressure from Palin's husband, Todd Palin, and numerous top aides to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, Palin's former brother-in-law. The move came hours after the state Supreme Court refused to halt the ethics in…

I also added a bunch of pictures from various events throughout the year's and a couple of our member's cars that I just got pictures of. One event that I added was this year's NAIAS. We had members go to that and tour the GM Heritage Museum while waiting for the New Camaro to unveil. Anyway, check it all out and feedback is always appreciated. Enjoy!

Consumer Reports gets a lot of flak (a lot of it justifiably, some of it is not) for their ratings. Are there any websites that have actual repair statistics data for different models that accessible to general public?

Insurance industry test points to weak side structures in some cars WASHINGTON - Some sport utility vehicles don’t provide the protection in a side crash that one might expect from such large vehicles, according to tests released Thursday by the insurance industry. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave marginal scores in side-impact tests of 2008 versions of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and two SUVs built by Nissan Motor Co. — the Pathfinder and Xterra without optional side air bags. In similar side testing, the Toyota 4Runner and Pathfinder and Xterra models equipped with side air bags received top marks of good in the side testing. The For…

I don't care what you guys say, that was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. Had the same "could've guessed it" story line as Dirty Dancing, but it was modern and a good movie. Go see it.

Welcome to the first issue of "In Retrospect" for July 2006. This internet publication exclusive to Cheers & Gears will be available here in the Lounge bi-weekly. "In Retrospect's" mission is to bring you random bits of automotive related articles, automotive ads that have long since went out of print, and other auto junk pulled from over a decade of "Car & Driver" magazines. Here's what's available for you to gawk at this month: The Chevrolet Astro was in a class of it's own. (Oct. 1996): Can't afford a new or classic Vette? Well, here's a model of one and some cologne so you can inhale that new car scent all day long. (Oct. 1996): This is here because, …

I have a massive collection of sales brochures that I am gearing up to sell on Ebay very soon. The collection ends around 2004-ish and goes back into the 1930s for some brands. It is mostly US brands, but Asian and European brands are there too. Most of Acura and all of Suzuki were already given to friends, and Mustang was removed from the collection before I inherited it. If you have a specific year/make/model you want me to pull for you to set aside let me know. For long-time members here, I will share up to four for just the cost of packing and postage. The collection really encompasses everything and not just the halo cars. Even basic models like Neon, …

So, I saw this commercial last night...BMW 3er commercial. I thought it was really well done, especially the very end which made me smile a lot. The last segment of the video shows Bimmerfest, the definitive, annual BMW gathering in the nation. It happens every year in Santa Barbara, California at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. This year it happened May 5th (Drinko de Mayo! Yeah baby!) and it was a great turnout. The first shot is of the E21 3er's with their hoods popped. One of my buddy's on another forum named Matt has the red one, and he couldn't believe it...Pretty awesome. My car is somewhere in the second shot...it is a very large venue with a huge turnout...It isn't …

I believe it to be interesting to involve a global company in some sort of human resource finding scam... your thoughts? I edited the reference number just in case it is somehow linked to my email

Jeez, seems like Chevy filmed this '72 Malibu as it cruzed through PA Dutch Country... what a nice looking car, that '72 Malibu. Does my eye spy a "350" badge on the fender next to "Malibu", or is it a "307"... <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pu-TnCo4yQ8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
