PART 1 ... SELECT QUOTES, Ambrose Bierce's "Devil's Dictionary": Arrest = Formally to detain one accused of unusualness Corporation = An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility Dictionary = A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work. Electricity = The cause of all natural phenomena not known to be caused by something else. Justice = A commodity which in a more or less adulterated condition the State sells to the citizen as a reward for his allegiance, taxes and personal service. Logic = The art of thinking and re…

Well... I thought I'd post pics of all the other toys in my household... The Nighthawk 750: Don't mind the the sissy-bar. Yes, it's ugly, but my dad uses to to tie cargo down onto and it makes my mom more comfortable on it. Personally, I'd like to atleast get one that matches the bike. The "Piece of $h!": Love my letter decals? Yeah... it's $h!ty... I know... obvious, huh? The GT80: It's old... Amazingly, it was my dad's when he was a kid. We found it a few years ago and had to buy. Sometime between then, they swapped the frame and the fenders and stuff. The originals are in that box, as you can see. I have …

Jeez, seems like Chevy filmed this '72 Malibu as it cruzed through PA Dutch Country... what a nice looking car, that '72 Malibu. Does my eye spy a "350" badge on the fender next to "Malibu", or is it a "307"... <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pu-TnCo4yQ8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's not nearly as involved as another car. I'll eventually turn this: into a nice road bike. It's an Iron Horse Triumph Comp aluminum/carbon frame and fork, and it was a steal. The sad part is, getting this up and running will most likely involve dismantling my beloved restified Schwinn and retiring her if I can't find a cheap way to keep her complete. She served me well, finishing tied for 5th in a century ride two weeks ago. I'll probably ride the Schwinn through the summer and start hording the parts that I can't transfer over.

I don't mean it in any disrepect to the US but I don't have to go down to Detroit anymore for college!!!! I am very pleased as it was going to cost a fortune. I just found out that Humber College in Toronto is the first school in Canada to offer Automotive Design. This is great so I can stay at home and drive down everyday. This school will also be cheaper to get into, don't need to pay for residence, and it is all in Canada within 45 minutes from me now. Now this is only bad for me in the aspect that: I probably won't be getting another car until I can save up for a relatively new commuter and I will have to commute everyday even in our nasty winters.

I don't want this to become a political thread. I'm posting this because I don't like the whole "selling my '63 Impala so I can buy a Prius" aspect of it. First of all, who in their right mind would sell a pristine '63 Impala and replace it with a Prius? Second of all, by depicting the domestic car as old and outdated, a candidate for replacement by a shiny new import, they are dissing the entire domestic auto industry. It is a subliminal message that really pisses me off. At the very least, they show the Impala with its loving, attentive new owner later in the piece, but by that point, the damage is done. Am I overreacting?

Or rather, push it until it started? Funny thing happened today. My girlfriend and I were coming out of Burger King today (yes it's bad for us, but I care not). There was a white late 90's Civic parker about 1/3 of the way into a spot near teh building. We walked past it, wondering why it was like that, if it had died or if the driver was just really bad at parking. Unlock the car and open up the doors when one of the two guys asks if I can jump it. I said sure, but I don't have cables. Do you? He said he didn't, but asked if I could help he buddy push the car and he'd try a rolling start. I said no problem (I'm so kind). I walked over and we got ready while teh driv…

Female owned, owned by the wife of a police officer I know. (our company offices are across from the police station, and I talk to this guy once in awhile before work. Autotrajic, 52,000 original miles...don't think it's even ever been drivin in the rain. Weekend good weather fun toy only, one owner. Haven't seen the car...but I've seen the other car they are selling a 97 Mustang GT convertible and the Mustang is flawless. I've seen national award winning Mustangs and the Mustang the guy…

Hot August Nights (and my vacation) is just over a month away and I for one can't wait. This year they raised the limit from 5000 to 5500 cars in the show and there are always thousands more that show up. Tammy and I will be heading south on July 30th with a bunch of other PNWCC members. So far we have 67, 68, & 69 Camaros, a 71 Chevelle, a 72 Skylark and who knows what else cruising down. We should have a couple of old Vettes as well in the convoy. Is anyone else planning on heading to Reno for this?

Whew, I just got done posting pictures from the 2006 All Camaro & Chevy Show on the PNWCC photo gallery. You can check them out at PNWCC Photo Gallery This year's show pics are under the club events and then 2006 events. I also added a bunch of pictures from various events throughout the year's and a couple of our member's cars that I just got pictures of. One event that I added was this year's NAIAS. We had members go to that and tour the GM Heritage Museum while waiting for the New Camaro to unveil. Anyway, check it all out and feedback is always appreciated. Enjoy!

"What does YellowJacket drive, I wonder...?" Oh, I know the question bugs you. Especially since I mention it here time to time. Is that a hint? It should be. What's that? Huh? You want to see the whole damn truck and not just a snippit of a badge? Alright then... That's it. That's what I'm forced to drive right now. Technically, it's my dad's truck. A 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab with four-wheel-drive; fully optioned except for an on-board compass (it does have an overhead console, though) and leather...if that was even an option on this truck. It has the infamous 318 Magnum V-8 -- which, by the way, 1999 was the last year for that engine in the 'Kota -- and t…

WASHINGTON - Linguists alarmed at the increasing extinction of many indigenous languages identified five global "hot spots" on Tuesday where the problem is worst, led by northern Australia and a region of South America. The linguists are part of the Enduring Voices project that seeks to document and revitalize languages slipping toward oblivion, often spoken by indigenous peoples like Australia's aborigines whose cultures were trampled by settlers. David Harrison of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, the project's co-director, said there are 6,992 recognized distinct languages worldwide. He said on average one language vanishes every two weeks, often as its last elderl…

I recently posted 'how the EV tax credit works', but I had it wrong. Want to correct the gist of it here. I was under the incorrect impression that the credit offset the amount you owed when you FILED. My wife [who was an economics major, has worked for a major investment house for a few decades, does our taxes and is one smart cookie] explained to me the credit goes against the TOTAL fiscal tax liability. This would include any check you write at filing time AND your taxes paid during the year, most of which came out of your salary. The bottom line as explained to me by this smart cookie is, anyone who is remotely fiscally sane (income high enough to get financ…

So this was probably a day or so after I bought it and I took it over to my parents for photos. For some reason I didn't look very happy. hahahahaha! What's interesting about this next one was that many years later I ultimately ended up driving that GMC Jimmy that was parked in front of the Camaro in the photo. When I got the Jimmy from my Dad (for painting his house) it had about 75000 miles on it. I ended up putting about 70000 miles on it myself before it got ruined during Hurricane Ike. I wish I had more pictures of this car at my house, but I have no idea where they would be. This was my 1988 Cutlass (it was a hand me down from parents). This was taken…

It seems like you can't see your own doctor anymore. The last 2 doctors I've had both used their physician's assistants extensively. What a pain in the ass. Both of the doctors had not-so-great P.A.s - at the first doctor about 4 years ago, I had to battle to get the antibiotics I needed for a laceration that had gone south because she was too busy concentrating on blood pressure (which reads normal when not at the doctor). The second doctor had a P.A. who screwed up some prescriptions. You have to SPECIFICALLY make an appointment to see your MD because nowadays they use their P.A.s for more routine stuff. Just took my Mom to the doctor she has had for at least …

Yes, I'm ALREADY looking to my 2011 road trip. While I know about 2 car shows the last weekend of June 2011 in PA (GM Nationals, Carlisle; MC Nationals, York)...and the irony of the 2 shows being so close together with many people I know attending at least 1 of the 2 shows, it does not appear (at this point) that I will be able to go, due to lack of vacation time. Instead, since I have yet to travel to the northwest section of the United States during any of my road trips, that is where I'm heading.... In early June 2011, I may have the opportunity to travel with a Route 66 friend of mine along part of US Route 66 from Chicagoland to Amarillo TX. If that works out, th…

Alright, so after a week of back-and-forth e-mailing with the owner of a slightly older used car I found for sale on a Craigslist ad, I'm planning to go check it out sometime today (likely in the early afternoon). Since it has been a LONG time since I shopped for a used car, and even then is was for a newer used car, is there a standard checklist to take along so I don't overlook anything? It would be a bonus if it was from a "Used Car Shopping for Dummies with little Mechanical Skills" book. If I like what I see, I will be asking to take it for a much more thorough inspection by an AA-approved mechanic. But I want to be able to perform a basic inspection so the selle…

Well I just basicly got finished fixing my car, yes, long and strectched out project of new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, igniton module, and coil. hmmm. a month long project that can all be done in a couple hours. yesterday when I started it up I noted that it was very thoaty and really lound. I thought just a hole in the exhaust. Until I heard a horrible scraping noise leaving from a store parking lot. I ignored it until i pulled in my drive way. Once I get home look under my car and my whole exhaust system is hanging about a 1/2 inch off the ground. Im not only pissed that the exhaust is broke. but im pissed since its origninal and has very very little rust on it. …

I shamelessly got this idea from a piece over at Jalopnik, but I thought it'd be a lot of fun. The article is about some legit Countach owners who go to shows and troll kit car owners- Countach Owners Troll Replica Owners Not really sure if that's funny, or pathetic and only something a douche would do. Anywho, at first, it may seem easy to choose the real deal, right? But what if it weren't some amateur hour backyard special some guy hacked together with a Fiero chassis and 3800 Series V6? SO i was browsing through Volvo's website lookin at that cool new C30... well i decided to look at the S40... the 2.4L I5 NA engine that it has in it makes the EXACT SAME power as my nearly old 2.4L I5 NA engine. Now THATS PROGRESS! 10 years later its the same exact engine. The only difference is that the S40 gets a bit better mileage than my car, and im assuming thats because the S40 is smaller/lighter and has a 5spd hooked up to it instead of my 4spd.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing. Sen. John McCain's running mate is the subject of a legislative investigation into whether she abused her power as governor by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner, Walter Monegan, says he was dismissed in July for resisting pressure from Palin's husband, Todd Palin, and numerous top aides to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, Palin's former brother-in-law. The move came hours after the state Supreme Court refused to halt the ethics in…

NEW YORK - The cost of filling up the family car climbed to a record high Tuesday, adding to the challenges consumers already face with falling home values and rising food prices. Gas prices at the pump rose overnight to a record national average of $3.2272 a gallon, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. That’s a tad higher than the previous record of $3.2265, set last May. Soaring gas prices worsen the financial plight of consumers already suffering through a downturn in the housing market that has sharply reduced home prices in many markets and limited Americans’ ability to tap home equity for spending. Food prices are also on the rise, partly due …

I was reminded yesterday of an idea I had a while ago, and thought I'd share. This does go in the far-fetched idea category, but I kinda like it, so here it is. A while back, I was thinking about what Cadillac in particular could do to differentiate itself in the luxury brands, and it occurred to me to start pondering... What is the greatest luxury? Leather? A nice audio system? Powerful engine? Navigation systems and other gadgets? Nah. SERVICE! Think about it - what is more the picture of luxury: a guy with a fridge by his hot tub, or a guy with someone who will go get him a drink or whatever he asks (maid, butler, etc). Service is the greatest …

Yes, I am bored again so I will show some screen shots from GT4. Of course... it has this fun photography thing where you can take scenic pics and pics during a replay. Super fun. All of this talk of replacing the GA inspired me to play it for the first time in months. Ya know... drove some of my Hondas. :D *hides in corner*

Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc. How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle? There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not .

The rules- 1)Production cars only. 2)Maximum of 5 choices. 3)These are your only vehicles. 4)Any era and market is allowed. 5)Choices must have a naturally aspirated engine with LESS than 5.0 of displacement. Have fun.

Insurance industry test points to weak side structures in some cars WASHINGTON - Some sport utility vehicles don’t provide the protection in a side crash that one might expect from such large vehicles, according to tests released Thursday by the insurance industry. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave marginal scores in side-impact tests of 2008 versions of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and two SUVs built by Nissan Motor Co. — the Pathfinder and Xterra without optional side air bags. In similar side testing, the Toyota 4Runner and Pathfinder and Xterra models equipped with side air bags received top marks of good in the side testing. The For…

I don't know how this happened, but I'm pissed as hell about it. That was taken after I had deleted half of the crap in quarantine. I just got the rest of it out of there. And now I just got a message saying I have Adware somewhere on my computer and I can't delete it. Hackers and people who feel the need to invade and ruin a costly piece of equipment should rot in jail for it.
