I posted a thread in the European competition forum today and for some reason, the site decided to not let me post at all. When I tried posting it for a third time, it finally let me do it, but ended up with two other threads. Can someone fix this issue and get rid of the last two threads? Check before you delete though....if you can even do that. EDIT: I see the problem was fixed. Thank you.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to relocate the forum information section (which encompasses "Site News/Updates" and "Forum Feedback") to the top of the forums. I think it would make the member concerns and staff members' announcements more visible and people may pay more attention to them. Just a thought.

As of today there are some changes being made to the forums. Nothing earth shattering, but it should help organize topics a bit. Product Questions and Reviews Located in the C&G Tech Corner, this is where members can post questions, comments and reviews about Auctions and Classifieds This is where all of those eBay, Craigslist, and any other classified ad can go It's located under C&G Social Central. Off Topic News Located as a subforum of The Lounge, any news that isn't car related can go here. Finally, Rated R and Politics will be opened to all members. However, non-subscribers will have to consult with an admin to get permission to enter them. …

Just a suggestion but I feel it would be a good idea to extend the forum width to 97% or 98%. The important content is in a box that's too narrow with the sidebar on the right. It's just wasted space on either side - might as well utilize it...

I notice you've sub-divided the "Other Guys" forum. I liked it better the other way since you could see all the news in one bite, without having to enter each subforum. Not only that, but the purpose of the subdivision really makes no sense. One can ascertain the company the post deals with by the thread title. I haven't been here long (and since in the migration, my account was eliminated, I appear to be even newer) but thought you might like a little feedback on the change. Tony

Four Nissan, Toyota SUVs Offer Lackluster Rollover Protection By Bengt Halvorson Deputy Editor August 19th, 2010 2010 Toyota 4Runner TrailEnlarge PhotoSeveral popular mid-size SUVs from Nissan and Toyota—the 2010 Nissan Xterra, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Pathfinder—have earned only lackluster rollover ratings in the latest round of testing from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). But these ratings, just released from insurance-funded testing authority, don't say anything about the vehicles' propensity to roll over (unlike those from the federal government); rather, they gauge the likelihood of serious injury and the amount of structu…

Yes yes... I broke the front page. I'm not sure what happened. I was upgrading the Garage system to the latest version and for some reason it took out the uPortal app that runs our front page. I've tried re-installing uPortal to no avail. I'm debating whether to put my efforts into fixing the uPortal app or if I should just finally bite the bullet and activate the Pages system that was intended to replace it.

I really think we need to have a more active front page. it's already set up in a blog style. Why can't we simply get the Auto stories from the major news sources posted in the forums and then linked to from the front page. Or have articles in the forums linked to the front page with a headline, post snippet and small photo? I would love to do this. I emailed FLY about it, but I think he may not be checking his mail. I am currently not working and have plenty of time on my hands. This would be something I would love to do, which would really help C&G stay competitive with other auto news and discussions sites. What do you guys think?

GAZ Siber to switch from Chrysler Sebring to MB E-Class?! Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ is being courted by a number of handsome suitors, according to Inside Line. While the company currently produces the Volga Siber at its Gorky Automobile plant, there's some indication that Daimler may want the facility to switch to building the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The move would kinda sorta be an all-in-the-family affair as the Siber is currently built off of the old Chrysler Sebring platform. With Chrysler out of Daimler's portfolio and Mercedes-Benz looking to take the Russian assault to its rival BMW, the move would make plenty of sense. It would also seem to be a rather l…

Often, I find myself trying to dig up an image gallery for a vehicle that was announced several months ago. Digging through search pages and whatnot just to find a decent picture of the interior (because, for some reason, decent pictures of GM vehicles are hard to find on the intertron). I was thinking that maybe there could be a separate page, forum, stickied thread that links to all of the image galleries we have. Would make it a lot easier to view some often hard-to-find pictures of vehicles. This could also include image galleries for other makes as well, if someone wanted. Just a suggestion! Thanks!

German car industry thriving again Weak euro makes sought-after European vehicles affordable Juergen Baetz / Associated Press Berlin -- Germany's car industry, the backbone of Europe's largest economy, is booming again. Fueled by the huge appetite for German luxury cars in China and the fact that the plunging euro has made European products cheaper abroad, manufacturers say they are shaking off the last of the economic downturn, adding extra shifts and hiring more workers to meet increasing demand. Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW and Audi told the Associated Press this week that order books are full and some plants are operating at full capacity, and that they are bullish …

German luxury cars in high demand, but not in Germany 10:28 AM If you're interested in a German luxury car, you're probably not German. Business is booming for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Porsche, a nice turnaround from a slow 2009,the Detroit News reports. Plants are so busy that some are apparently avoiding the end-of-the-year shutdown and running this week to try to catch up with demand. Demand, that is, in export markets like China, Brazil and the U.S. But not in Germany. There, in the fatherland, German luxury is still just that, a luxury. Sales slipped 25.2% in the first 11 months of the year. How much is demand up. Nine of the 10 top selling luxury nameplate…

German new car market to return to growth after sales decline slows in Sept. Automotive News Europe -- October 5, 2010 06:01 CET FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- After new car registrations in Germany declined at a significantly slower rate in September than in August, the VDA industry body said the German car market should return to growth towards the end of 2010. New car registrations fell 17.8 percent in September to 259,748 vehicles. Registrations fell 27 percent in August due to a high comparison with last year's month that was distorted by the country's scrapping scheme. "The trend change in new orders from domestic customers has finally been reached with September, when …

German OEMs pick one electrical charging connector to rule them all by Jeremy Korzeniewski (RSS feed) on Sep 16th 2010 at 4:31PM One massive sticking point with electric cars is the lack of standards when it comes to plugging in the vehicle. In the 90s, the General Motors EV1 didn't use the same kind of plug as the Toyota RAV4 EV, and that meant electric vehicle charging stations had to keep multiple adapters on hand if they wanted to service to multiple machinery. If there's any hope that EVs will take off in popularity over the next few decades, some standardization is in order. To that end, German manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz and Smart), Porsche a…

Ghosn says Renault-Nissan EVs may be profitable in 3 years Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has predicted battery-powered autos may account for 10 percent of global auto sales by 2020. November 18, 2010 15:00 CET TOKYO (Bloomberg) -- Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said the alliance's electric cars business may be profitable within three years as the two automakers plan to introduce new models. “There are customers who want really zero emission cars,” Ghosn said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in New York Wednesday. “This segment is going to grow with time.” Ghosn has predicted battery-powered autos may account for 10 percent of global auto sales by 2020. Global Vehicles Bitch-Slaps Mahindra... With A $35 Million Pickup Truck Order?! Global Vehicles alleges Mahindra delayed EPA certification on their built-in-India pickup trucks to purposely cancel the contract granting exclusive rights for distribution in the United States. Now Global Vehicles is fighting back — by placing a $35 million order?! Here's what Global Vehicles is saying: Global Vehicles believes that Mahindra purposely delayed the EPA certification process so it could invoke a contract clause that would allow it to walk away if the truck could not be certified for sale in the United States. Global Vehicles extended the deadline for certification three times…

Global Vehicles emails potential customers, attempts to explain delays. I'm pleased to announce that C&G's own GM Economy and Efficiency Guide has been updated to reflect the latest federal information for the 2007 model year. While the vast majority of models are included, a few (such as the Acadia and OUTLOOK) are pending at this time. We will add the data as soon as it becomes available. New to the guide are Marque Averages, which tells how economical and efficient the division is as a whole. The number is derived from simply adding the city, highway, average, and emissions figures and dividing those respective totals by the number of vehicle engine choices. Enjoy, as we hope this - along with our updated GM Vehicle Safety Guide - wi…

At this time, there's not a lot of content, but mostly a request for ideas to, as the name says, help fix GM. Would you ever consider a merger between C&G, GMI, and Help Fix GM? (Hey, if nowadays people suggest that GM merge with anyone and everyone... ) Just think of how you could reduce the cost of bandwidth with united buying power. Just think of how you could triple the number of complainers. Or silly posts like this one.

Honda, Hyundai issue anti-used-parts memos, junkyards object by Chris Shunk (RSS feed) on Oct 29th 2010 at 9:58AM The Automotive Recyclers Association is ready to go to war with Honda and Hyundai. Why? The ARA claims that the automakers warn against the use of recycled auto parts, saying that the use of these components will void vehicle warranties. The ARA filed an official letter of complaint with the Federal Trade Commission saying that the actions of the automakers fly in the face of the Magnuson-Moss Act of 1975, which was enacted to make warranties more straightforward. Recycled auto parts have been in wide use for decades, and the ARA says that the use of these …

Just got some insider info from a friend who works at Hyundia. He said some models are showing advanced rust to the sub frames and control arms. These are not 10 year old cars either. He did not give me the model names in the e mail but will post them when I find out. He said the fix right now is to drill the frame, hit it with a hammer to break lose the rust and then pump it full of wax. Needless to say he was not impressed with the fix. Might want to see if anyone else speak of this since it has not been reported in the press.

The tab on the top right of forum headings. It lets you either expand or collapse those you do not wish to view. Who cares about the Foreign Exchange? Not I! Same for the Powertrain tech stuff. Pffffft I love it.

I just found out that you can create your own customized PM boxes. Stock, we get Inbox, Sent PMs, and Saved (Unsent) PMs. However, you can add your own! I just added Saved (Received). Figured I'd share this new-found feature. I love it.

Morning all, Has anyone else upgraded to IE11 or Firefox 25? Are you running on windows 7 or Window 8 or 8.1? I have IE 11 and Firefox 25 on both Windows 7 and an upgraded 8.1 system. If you right mouse click on the quote button in a forum post and say open in a new tab, everything works fine and you can reply and post. Yet if you just click on the quote button it will take you to the field to type your reply but be blank. No quoted post will appear and the only way to make it work is to do the right mouse click and open in a new tab for quote replying. If you just click in the reply field to post a comment, it is a 50/50 chance that you will see your posting comment. …

A picture's worth at least a sentence or two: Frank, take a bow, your time has come. That Corvette with Nomad taillights seems like a faint memory of a bad dream now. C&G is proud to welcome longtime member NOS2006 to the staff as moderator of the design forms. He'll be in charge of setting up both the sketch and chopping competitions that you guys all know and love. Let's give our newest staff member a round of applause.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=121707 PUNE, India — On the way to the launch of two ultra-cheap people's cars, Tata Motors addresses popular needs by launching two new minibuses to help with rural needs for public transportation. The new products are called the Magic and the Winger. Ratan Tata, the visionary chairman of Tata Motors, aims to change the face of Indian transportation. In 2005 he turned the light-commercial-vehicle sector upside-down with the four-wheeler Ace pickup truck. The Ace had all the abilities of popular, motorcycle-derived three-wheelers but with one extra wheel and other amenities. It was so clearly the right product for its …

It's no secret that GM's in a precarous position right now, and the decisions it makes over the next couple of years will determine its future and, ultimately, its survival. With that in mind, there's never been a better time to play armchair CEO. C&G is pleased to unveil its newest feature, one that'll give all you who fancy yourselves in Rick Wagoner's chair someday a chance for your voice to be heard. For this feature, titled "C&G Wants to Know", we'll take a hot button issue concerning GM and ask the question "How would you address this issue if you were running the show at GM?" Since we'll be running this in the "To General Motors" section, you may just be fo…

Is it possible to either remove or move the "Start New Topic" button at the bottom of each thread. It's right where I'm used to the "Reply" button being. I can't say how many times I've accidentally found myself in the wrong area, just about to start a new topic, when all I wanted to do was reply with quotes. It seems unnatural that the "Reply" button is offset to the left of the other. It's not a terribly big deal, but it's fairly annoying to find myself there. This is seemingly the only forum that I find myself having this issue with ever since the forums were moved to this new style.

Is the Lotus Europa set to be reborn as a Proton? by Jeff Glucker (RSS feed) on Dec 3rd 2010 at 2:29PM The Lotus Europa died so that the Evora could live. Now it seems that Lotus-owner Proton is looking to revive the Europa and stick the Proton badge on the bodywork. The resulting Proton-badged Europa would provide a relatively affordable sports car for the Malaysian market. In fact, this very car has recently popped up in the form of the Proton Lekir Concept, which is essentially a tiger-badged Europa. If this conceptual car ever comes to fruition, we'll be interested to see how the Malaysian market would respond to a Lotus they can truly call their own. link: htt…

I have a number of changes and additions coming for you guys over the next 6 months. I installed a plug-in that will catch a bad email address and then flag your account for review. It will keep popping up a window until you re-enter a valid and validated e-mail address. The reason for this is that if we send out emails and they bounce, email servers begin to think we're just spammers or scammers fishing for victims, and then our valid emails end up in spam folders. By taking this step, it will prevent C&G from being labeled as a spam server. So, if you haven't updated your email address in a while, please do so in your profile to the upper left. If …

Japan, Inc. From the "Here We Go Again" File comes word that Japanese authorities intervened in the foreign-exchange market today, launching the dollar up sharply against the yen. They say the move is Japan's first foreign-exchange market intervention in more than six years. Really? We find that hard to believe. It may have been the first official move in six years, but when foreign currency manipulation is part of the standard operating procedure of the government there, we're not buying that explanation. At any rate, this will be a giant rice bowl of Not Good for the U.S.-based auto manufacturers in no time. Count on it.

http://www.nyse.com/interface/jsp/NHDetail...isdowjones=true "Not everyone is backing away from the fleet market. Toyota Motor Corp. ( 7203.TO), the top-selling Japanese automaker, boosted fleet sales 16% in the first seven months of 2005 compared to the like period in 2004, according to R.L. Polk, while Nissan Motor Co. (7201.TO) and Honda Motor Co. (7267.TO) have upped fleet business 25% and 30% respectively. Even though each of Japan's Big Three have boosted sales in 2005, fleet increases far outpace the rate of growth for each company."

Japan’s Economic Future in Doubt: A National Introspective TUESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2010 It’s not been a good year for Japan. China has recently overtaken the Land of the Rising Sun as the world’s second biggest economic power and a recall of over ten million vehicles by one of the nation’s biggest and most respectable companies, Toyota, kicked off a global PR debacle that some analysts predict will take years to recover from. Add to that Japan’s aging population, its growing national debt and heavy reliance on manufacturing, all of which are effectively killing what was once thought destined to be the world’s leading economic superpower. The departure of its fourth Pri…

Japanese Auto Makers Drive Ahead With Fuel-Cell Vehicle Programs By Roger Schreffler and Mack Chrysler WardsAuto.com, Sep 29, 2010 9:00 AM TOKYO – Fuel-cell-powered vehicles may join the industry mainstream sooner than anyone thinks due to developments taking place in Asia. “Hydrogen energy and fuel-cell technologies have achieved greater acceptance and are likely to be phased in earlier in Asia, especially in Japan and South Korea, than anywhere else in the world,” writes Peter Hoffmann, publisher and editor of the Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Letter. Hoffmann particularly is upbeat about efforts by Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. “Both auto makers have ind…

Japanese auto makers surpass GM in North America Tue Apr 4, 12:07 PM ET Japanese automakers overtook US car giant General Motors in North American car and truck production in 2005 and all signs point to Asian dominance of the industry soon, a report showed. Faced with growing losses in market share, GM reduced its production in the region to 4.6 million vehicles in 2005 while Japanese automakers boosted their assembly plant output in the region by 12 percent to 4.8 million cars and light trucks last year. It is the first time on record Japanese car and truck manufacturers have surpassed the biggest of the so-called Big Three US automakers in North America, according …

Japanese automakers expect higher earnings Christine Tierney / The Detroit News Japan's leading automakers are expected to report higher earnings for the fiscal first quarter begun on April 1 despite weakness in the United States and Europe, two of their major markets. Analysts say a recovery in Asian markets and rising demand in Japan will underpin their results. Nissan Motor Co. is scheduled to report first-quarter earnings on Thursday, followed by Honda Motor Co.'s on Friday and Toyota Motor Corp.'s next Wednesday. "The recovery trend should be firmly in place with marked year-on-year improvement," Deutsche Bank analyst Kurt Sanger wrote in a report. He listed Nis…

Japanese automakers expected to increase overseas production Christine Tierney / The Detroit News Japanese automakers, grappling with a strong currency and flagging demand in their home market, are likely to boost production abroad, adding the equivalent of four assembly plants in North America by 2017, according to new forecast. Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. and other Japanese automakers now have the combined capacity to produce 5.36 million cars and light trucks in North America. By the end of 2016, they're expected to add capacity totaling just over 800,000 vehicles, Masatoshi Nishimoto, a forecaster at IHS Automotive, said at a news briefin…

Japanese automakers report production recovery Associated Press Tokyo -- Japanese automakers reported sharp increases Tuesday in global production for the first half of the year, and for June in particular -- with Toyota seeing a 16.2 percent surge, underlining a recovery in auto demand from a dismal plunge a year earlier. Toyota Motor Corp., the world's biggest automaker, said it produced 739,683 vehicles in June, as sales grew in Japan and abroad, and exports expanded to North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. For the first half, Toyota's worldwide production totaled 4.36 million vehicles, marking a 46.8 percent rise from the previous year -- underlining th…

Mitsubishi Motors to cut production as sales slow November 27, 2008 Link to article MITSUBISHI Motors today said it would lay off one-third of its temporary workers in Japan as sagging sales led it to reduce production. Japan's fourth-biggest carmaker said it would not renew contracts with the 1100 workers when those employment agreements expired at the end of next March. “We are adjusting production in order to reduce inventory stockpiles in view of the recent economic and market conditions,” a company statement said. In addition to cutting production by 80,000 vehicles, which Mitsubishi said it would do in October, the company today said output would be furt…
