While the Lounge is for members only, there are two key points we wish to have our members abide by:
1) Please use office talk. Talk that you would not use around the office, or infront of your boss for that matter, please do not use here on C&G
2) No political talk. There are plenty of forums on the 'net for that. Lets keep C&G free of political talk.

When I was working on the Monte today (sorting out some minor issues, like the gear selection indicator), I drove it up and down my street today, to stretch its legs just a little. As I pulled back into my driveway, I noticed something big, brown, and furry in the passenger side floorboard: a goddamn mouse. The little $h! even decided to take a leak on my passenger side door sill trim too. I think its hiding under the rear seat.

Okay my fiancée and I will be "Runnin' with the Devil" for the second week of November. We leave from Detroit to Northeast between November 7 and November 13. I was wondering if any C&Gers around the areas that we are visiting would like to get together for breakfast/brunch/lunch/linner/dinner and shoot some air about GM and cars. Here are our tentative dates and times at the different locations. Nov 07 (Sat) - Leave Detroit 0700 - Cleveland possibly will meet Stang (Chris) - Continue to Philly (Overnight stop) Nov 08 (Sun) - Stay in Philly or possibly go to Hershey's - Back to Philly (Overnight stop) Nov 09 (Mon) - Spend morning in Philly and drive to NY (Ove…

My buddy Ray Buck is traveling to Iowa next weekend ... and a bunch of us are going to meet up for a Sunday afternoon gathering: "What started out as me and me darlin bride delivering the Nova and the Camaro to Jim in Waterloo, Iowa has sorta snowballed...and for the time being, we're planning a get-together at the Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, Ia on Sunday the 18th of September at 1:30 pm til ???? I've contacted the museum and tentatively, we don't think there should be any problems with parking. I'll know more on Monday. I'll also be bringing the "Hello, my name is..." lapel tags. Hope to see ya there, Ray"

Well, yesterday I went up to the "worlds largest outdoor car museum" (From a thread a while back) with XP (Sixty8 was gonna join us but had to stay home and watch his kid just kiddin Sly, there will be pleanty of other times that we'll go up this summer). I took a crapload of pics, it was my first time there that I really got to see some of the stuff they had (The other time I went up we were in a real hurry cause they closed very soon) Just thought you guys might want to see some more pics from this place.... http://community.webshots.com/album/550670613hQXaqC The pics at the end are just weird stuff that we saw on our drive back through Manchester

When I was unsure about my sexuality... well, more or less unwilling to admit that I was gay, I had my fair share of girlfriends. Well, as I looked in the local Newspaper, I notice one that I probably would have ended up going out with again if I had turned out to be straight. It was for the upcoming Laurel Queen Pageant for Brookville's annual Laurel Festival. My jaw dropped as I saw her pic and read about her... My, how I have ignored what a talented and beautiful woman she has grown into. But, I'm gay... and I'd have it no other way. Still... for the breeders... "Mekka D, is the 16 year old daughter of Scott and Honey D (rest edited out) of Brookville. She is a jun…

With $ 3 + a gallon gas, who isn't concerned about gas mileage. My current car, at 14 years and 225,000 miles, still gets what was posted on the window sticker...about 18 in town and 28 on a road trip. It still gets that 28....amazing. Cautiously, I'm looking at new cars. I've been out of town the last 3 weekends, so I've had the opportunity to rent. I had a GP as a rental in Florida. On a road trip across the lower part of the state, the 3800 returned 27.7 mpg (with the AC on the whole time and some non-freeway driving). This past weekend, I was in L.A. I wanted a Monte 3.5 to see the mpg, but they gave me an Impala 3.5. UNBELIEVABLE. From LA to Santa Barbara a…

Who do you think here at Cheers and Gears has the most over-the-top obsession with a certain type of car (or anything else that comes to mind)? Is it Sixty8 with his obession with hardtops? Was it Blackviper with his obsession with Pontiac and the infamous Fiero? Is it Knightfan with his obession with the Monte Carlo? Just list whatever you think of.

Weird that I'd think of this, but there are two songs on my playlist that I think would make awesome Wedding Songs (like the song the bride/groom share the first dance with). One is "Into the Mystic" by the Wallflowers (yes, the one from American Wedding haha) and another is "Far Away" by Nickelback. What was/is/will be your wedding song? What do you think some good ones would be? Weird question, I know.

After Ford released Bold Moves: Episode 15; Pitching the Fairlane Concept, we saw parts of what we all thought was the production version of the Ford Fairlane concept, or was it??!! I just got the recent December issue of Motor Trend, and according to them, the Fairlane concept will be very different. Was what we saw just a cancelled prototype? An idea that was originally the answer, but isn't? When wil it debut? What will it's production form take on? Thjese answeres are but to be answered.

My girlfriend, my sister and her boyfriend, and I went to Hawaii for the weekend--flew out of Phoenix Friday morning to Honolulu, came back late last night then my g/f and flew back to Denver this morning..I'm a zombie (less than 3 hrs sleep last night). We went for the Pearl Jam/U2 concert in Aloha stadium--the last show on U2's Vertigo tour...incredible show. Pearl Jam was my favorite 'grunge' band in college and U2 is probably my all-time favorite band (behind Pink Floyd), so it was a very special night. We had an '06 Mustang convertible rental..a bit tight for 4 people, but a lot of fun for driving around the island. There were loads of Dodge Calibers and Sa…

I've been to many car shows and I can usually find something to appreciate in any of them. This show, however, quickly has become one of my favorites. Walking around the Hershey Hotel, you see so many great cars that you could not find gathered in many places in the world...let alone, in Pennsylvania. If you love classic cars, this show should be on your schedule for next year. It's gathered such a reputation that organizers from some of the more established shows have made it a point to visit this one. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4185

There is a little town in North Central California that I find really quaint. That would be Chico. About 3x a year, I'll grab a rental car and go there to do...well...nothing. I'll go to B&N, Starbucks, a movie, to eat (they've got some good little restaurants)....and sleep. Any towns, lonely beaches or rural places you retreat to?

Well, we survived another year. As 2013 comes to a close, the entire automobile industry is doing well while the rest of the economy plods along in the jobless recovery. In politics, the bickering two parties continue to bring shame on themselves in petty upmanship, with the losers being the American public. The Tea Party made a mockery of itself as the country waited weeks for the federal government shutdown to end, and the President’s signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act, struggled in its implementation. Edward Snowden, working as a contract worker for the National Security Agency, spilled the beans on what many would say is overreach in the U.S. government …

Well, I would like a reliable GM car, mainly because used imports are overated with price and are not cheap to repair. I was thinking Alero or Grand Am about 2000-02 and I know from many the Alero is a pretty good car, but I always liked the Grand Am SE a bit more, is the Grand Am any good, and if not what would you guys suggest as a good GM car, or any car really in 2000 - 02. Price is a factor. No Ford or Chrysler cars... sorry to fans of them haha.

This is a thread for gun enthusiasts, no matter how many or how little firearms you have, here's the place to talk about them. JUST TO BE CLEAR, this thread should contain NO political views or standpoints. It is only here to discuss the guns themselves. This thread over at MT was one of the very few that was able to remain civil throughout its rather lengthy existence. I have no doubt a more civilized group can do the same or better.

Linkypoo Some I disagree with, many I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with. Many of the cars on the list, the author, "Dickhead" Dan Neil, bitches about fuel economy, especially on the more modern cars. I do agree with him on the neutered Corvette and a few of the others, but I really disagree on the Corvair, Explorer (it probably kept Ford afloat after the 1996 Taurus debacle) and the EV1, as well as a few others. The EV1 wasn't a terrible car, it was terribly handled by GM.

I found this pic of a Cadillac/Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership in Vancouver WA. What do you guys think? Going forward, do you think this type of efficient bundling of brands would allow the brands to remain distinctive? I actually do. That's providing the dealership features separate entrances for the brand showrooms and separate service advisors/areas for Cadillac owners & BPG owners. The backend would benefit by using the same lot, management, including the service/technician dept and facilities. The distinction would remain but make it convenient for BPG shoppers to "browse" Cadillac and eventually trade-up. It would also allow Cadillac to move more toward…

It's over. I can't support such a company any longer. Because of that, I cannot remain a part of the staff of C&G. I value the friends I have made here, and I don't intend to disappear completely, but this site has always been about the future of GM - and I no longer believe it has one. So, as of tomorrow, I hope to be just a regular member here. I will stop by now and then, read a bit, post about old cars, and be on my way again. To do otherwise would be dishonest.

So GM will be putting IC engines on the volt. So it still periodically has to burn some gas. Nearly all our cars in this country burn gasoline. But some pundits say we should all have electric cars. So why don't we get rid of the fuel on cars and just use all the fuel we burn profusely every day in our cars, we should use that fuel to power electric power generators instead? and just plug all the cars in. Would we use more or less fuel this way?

I am smitten by the 2010 Mustang's sequential rear turn signals, but I have a question I hope some of our FoMoCo historians can answer: Which vintage Ford Motor Co. vehicles had that feature? As some of you may already know, I'm looking to replace the stock 16" six-spoke rims on my IS300 (which aren't in the best shape to begin with) with the more attractive (but still stock) 17" five spoke rims. The replacements in question come in silver, graphite, and chrome finishes. I'm interested in the latter two (the graphite finish in particular looks great with my car's color, charcoal grey). I've always loved the look of the five-spoke IS300 rims, which became standard in '02 (mine's an '01 <_<), as they fit the car perfectly. My question is whether you guys think it'd be worth spending money on rims that'…

The first time I put my eyes on that car in Car & Driver, my eyes began to bleed. It looked like a beached whale, and it had a face that could blow off a manhole cover. Not only that but Renault wanted that to be a poor man's Porsche 928. Pffft... Yeah, sure. Whatever you say, Renault. Reliability sucked, styling sucked, the engine sucked, interior... Nude model or groping victim? The Economist THE Transportation Security Administration, America's second-most loathed bureaucracy, has used its stimulus bucks to stock up on fancy ritual-humiliation scanners that electronically disrobe air-travellers. TSA officers are exceedingly unlikely to detect terrorist tools thereby, but they can always wince and titter at their victims' corpulence or unimpressive primary and secondary sexual characteristics. And if you are unwilling to surrender your dignity to a low-level security-state functionary in this way, you always have the option to surrender your dignity to a low-level security-state functionary in an "enhanced pat-down…

Sat and Sun will probably be a jaunt to Seattle, overnighting up there. I can only stay near my Mom for very limited doses as she is both a pain-in-the-ass and stupid...sorry. (I was told, "I hope you bring up some nice clothes and go to Mass on Christmas day." ) I can't believe that someone who can't do ANYTHING would need to instruct me...I have no problem with the Mass part, as I will probably find a parish to duck into and go to church, but the apparel part is out of control. At any rate, how will you be spending th…

My wife Kimberley and I are going to take a 6 week vacation in July/August of this year. Two weeks we will spend home in Plano, Texas visiting my parents and extended family. However we saw a commercial on TV about visiting Utah. It looked really cool and neither of us has ever been there. So we were thinking about renting a car in Texas and driving to Utah and back since we will have four weeks to play like little kids in Utah. So does anyone on these great forums live there, or have you visited there? If you have let me know, I would like to know what you thought of Utah. Thanks in advance!

Did a Holden, like, run over your dog? Did a Monaro sleep with your wife? Maybe a Commodore ate your last M&M? :AH-HA_wink:

My Milly's ambient temperature display maxed out today. Okay.... so it only goes up to 99 degrees in Fahrenheit. But yeah... It's been so hot, especially today. It still hot out and its 1:30 in the morning. I'm roasting in my 80 degree room. My fan is useless as it just brings in more hot air. I need air conditioning. Either that or a large refrigerator to sleep in.

I remember well what it felt like to walk across this monster, no matter who you were you got to know vertigo quite well. It was an amazing structure in an exceptionally beautiful setting, until a tornado destroyed it in 2003. Here's a link to some good pictures: http://www.worldisround.com/articles/15433/ Be sure to check out the view looking down!

Well, it's just a little over a day now before I depart, please don't all cheer at once! Y'all be good and don't fight to much with each other, remember we're all one big happy GM family! I won't be posting as much (good news for many of you), but I will still lurk. If you want to contact me, I'm on all the Microsoft/Windows messengers, just add [email protected] . Just remember I do not check that email address, so don't email me there. I enjoyed all my discussion threads here on C&G, even when we didn't quite agree. I will be watching closely the sales of the G8, come the new year. Many things hinge on that car, it will be interesting to see how the publ…

Okay, so I thought I was going insane before... but now I've done it: I want a 3/4 foreign car. Used, of course. I hate the Bronco. It gets the worst gas mileage I could ever have a nightmare and dream of, it runs like $h!, doesn't want to crank over in the cold (and I'm not buying a new battery), and has other issues too. So, come spring, I'm going to fix it up as much and as quick as I can and put it on the block for sale. Hopefully I'll make a little cash off of it and save a little for my NEXT winter car... I'm thinking about a DSM. That's right, I said it. A '95-99 Eclipse GS-T or GSX with a 5 speed. Something that will get better gas mileage (es…

Apparently this "never made it out of committee", but here's what was proposed: >>There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our vehicle license fees. The bill was SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the vehicle license tabs upon renewal. Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule Up to 1.9 : $0 2.0 - 2.9 : $70 3.0 - 3.9 : $225 4.0 - 4.9 : $275 5.0 - 5.9 : $325 6.0 - 7.9 : $400 8.0 or over : $600 Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summ...6900&year=2007<< Oooo... it's…

Okay.....so I've met someone new. He's a great guy.....this Saturday will be three weeks from our first date. We've been really good about taking it easy, taking each day as it goes....and so on. My question is.....I'd love to just date him, and I'm not interested in meeting anyone else....so how quick is too quick....to ask him to be my boyfriend? Mind you I'm not talking about moving in, getting married, or anything like that....but we've hit it off SO GOOD that I'm ready to start thinking about taking some further steps. I've gotten all good signs from the beginning.....we kissed on the first date, held hands all throughout a movie, cuddled on the couch together…

While saving some money, and trying to prove a point, my buddy is using those "other" brands for his car. He used to do some of the same things we do here to baby our cars (even his beater, a Cav like my wife's), but says no that now it's time to use some common sense, as most "stuff" out there is all the same..... I do find it interesting....(and he's not cheaping out on his classic Mustang..) Things he did this week... New Goodyear Viva 2s from Walmart Super Tech Full Syn oil (instead of Mobil 1) Super Tech Car Wash (instead of Mothers) It's a little different coming from a fellow car guy....what do you guys think?

Somehow I stumbled on this one. Yep, same guy who went toxic on the camaro. the subject matter is a little more popular to folks here. Honestly though, its not even the subject matter in this article or whether you care or whatever. This guy is such a foul writer. This is not journalism, this is just someone going off. How many therapists does this asshole have? Whatever he writes about seems to be toxic to read. All he seems to do is have a snit with the pen. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...notes041009.DTL

I can just see it now ... pure driving EXCITEMENT!!!!!! scooting across a TV screen ... probably black in color ... chorus comes in and pure driving EXCITEMENT!!!!!! does a skid on a wet track ... then Don LaFontane or James Earl Jones comes in with, "Feel fly in your G6 with this new attractive lease offer of $1400 down and $199 a month."

Today some junk mail slipped past the Hotmail filter that had the title "Want to meet SEXY Christians?". Here's what it said: It sounds like some normal hocus pocus dating service except for one thing...SexyChristiansMeet.com. Seriously, what the hell? Even funnier, it came on Sunday at 9 AM.
