I came across this 1957 Pontiac Safari and was curious about the value. Production appears to be about 1,300...running a 400 with TH400. Headliner needs work and it's missing a chrome piece on the back, but overall it appears solid.

http://www.buckeyehonda.com/used-cars.aspx Check out this Chevrolet truck...my 19 year old daughter Elizabeth wants a Chevy truck and I've been looking around. Thinking of going and test driving this one...but the price seems really high. We bought our Safari Van and our Concorde from this dealership and they treated us right...but this still seems high. What should this thing sell for? Chris

Was working on something (don't worry gm4life, it was domestic and not imported) with a friend and was putting one last wire tie on to finish up. My foot slipped on an oily spot on the concrete and when I fell forward my left hand got jammed between the rotating fanblade (metal) and the fan shrowd. It was a quick second before I could get it free. A very good doctor put eveything back together...but OUCH! Thankfully, amazingly, no broken bones or badly damaged tendons, but lots and lots of stitches. It's amazing how much you can bleed from your hands if you cut a few arteries. Thanks much to my friends for getting me to the Emergency Room right away, and thanks t…

GM gave me the 2010 SRX for a long weekend. Quite a good car. With the AWD and adaptive "FE3" suspension, the handling starts to feel almost Audi-like. Looks great inside and out. Absolutely kills the RX in styling. I didn't really like the way the SRX looked on the outside at first, but the more I see it, the more I like it. Just one of those cars you need to see in person.

Today has been awesome so far. I was called back into work after being laid off. During lunch I checked my miles from NorthWorst Airlines and I have enough to cover 4 tickets to Australia and back. So If i can get a new passport and permission to leave the country and AU will allow me to visit I think i will go out there for a week or two. I just have to decide who i want to take. Has anyone else seen or owned the series? I watched the first one a while ago, but last weekend I went out and bought the remastered Dirty Harry 5-pack DVD collection and am through the first four films. Even though The Enforcer seems like the weakest one so far (haven't watched Dead Pool yet), one of my favorite scenes of the set is the one from Enforcer where he rams the car into the store during the robbery.

So I have a friend who is finally getting rid of his learners and getting his full license. He told me he was buying a car for 500$ from his great uncle and that it was American and he thought it was a GM but beyond that he didn't know what it was as the name of the car was unfamiliar (he couldn't quite remember it). He described it as a "big white coupe" with red leather upholstery and that the car was MY 1990. I came by there today only to find out that the car he spoke of was a 1990 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo in white with the Garnet leather interior. It has 100'000 miles and is in pretty decent shape. It has the fully functional factory original Oldsmobile Visu…

Just to clarify for the one or two who did not get it, the remark about insta-banning PINGAS meme posters for being "trolls" was a joke, an example of dry humor. I was pretty sure that anyone remotely paying attention since, oh, about 2002 would have figured out that I have a very dry sense of humor, but apparently not. Is PINGAS no longer funny? Oh, absolutely. It is played out beyond belief, as I and numerous other posters have pointed out. BUT--insta-banning PINGAS offenders was just NOT a serious suggestion. I'm well aware that this site has a process of raising a "warning level" in 20% increments, imposing posting approval, temporary time outs from posting, and…

[source: Wall Street Journal] Climate Bill Passes Key Procedural Hurdle in House Democrats Still May Not Have Votes for Final Passage By IAN TALLEY and SIOBHAN HUGHES WASHINGTON -- A landmark climate bill narrowly passed a key procedural hurdle in the House Friday, a sign that leadership may just barely have enough votes for final passage later in the day. Republicans said the bill included the largest tax increase in American history. It passed by a vote of 217-205. To ensure final passage, the bill needs 218 votes. Passage of the controversial bill will hand Democrats and President Barack Obama a major vic…

From the CATO Institute. Mourning the Loss of a Great American Capitalist While the big news of the day wouldn’t seem to have a public policy angle, Michael Jackson’s death allows us to remember that such phenomenal career achievements can only be possible in an economic system that rewards and harnesses talent. The King of Pop’s creativity allowed him and his family to make hundreds of millions of dollars, yes, but it also created thousands of jobs in the music and marketing industries and brought joy to fans around the world. Whatever his personal eccentricities — perhaps, in part, as a result of them — Jackson represents a capitalit success story. No central pl…

SEOUL, South Korea — Punching their fists into the air and shouting "Let's crush them!" some 100,000 North Koreans packed Pyongyang's main square Thursday for an anti-U.S. rally as the communist regime promised a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" for any American-led attack. Several demonstrators held up a placard depicting a pair of hands smashing a missile with "U.S." written on it, according to footage taken by APTN in Pyongyang on the anniversary of the day North Korean troops charged southward, sparking the three-year Korean War in 1950. North Korean troops will respond to any sanctions or U.S. provocations with "an annihilating blow," one senior official vowe…

[source: Wall Street Journal] 'Transformers' Sequel Opens Strong By KEVIN KINGSBURY "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" sold $120.1 million in tickets on Wednesday, with the U.S. total of $60.6 setting an record for movies debuting on that day -- and the second best one-day total overall. The domestic take, more than analysts were expecting, sets the stage for the sequel to top the $319 million the first film in the series generated in 2007 and $708 million overall. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hit theaters overnight, selling out midnight shows in cities around the country. The action thriller is considere…

Another favorite of mine is the Albizia Julibrissin (Japanese Mimosa or Silk Tree). It is the main attraction of my front lawn in summer. The Albizia Julibrissin with its delicately scented flowers is an attractive exotic plant for the garden. Long stamen make the flowers look like a pink powder puff. Also, the pinnately (feather-like) divided leaves add to the elegant appearance of the tree. At night or in case of drought the leaves fold together (hence its common name ‘sleeping tree’ in some languages), by day they unfold again and offer a shady place to relax.

I was just thinking the other day about one of my favorite cars and of all my cars i have been through i think my favorite cars was my 1980 Oldsmobile Omega 2 door with the iron duke in a deep black. I remember beating it to death and jumping it off of rail road tracks with friends. I also remember rebuilding the engine when i blew it up. I sold it to my neighbor at the time (1989 ish) for i think $150. The body was still clean and straight. I wish I would of kept that car. Just bored here so i figure i would ask you guys about one of your favorite cars you have ever owned either current or in the past.

So it's been raining since what seems like forever...I think Friday night. It's really grinding my gears. In the past week I've gone to start the Prizm and twice it wouldn't start. First time was corrosion all over teh negative connector and terminal (non on the new positive one). Cleaned it up and life was good until the 2nd time. Cleaned it some more and put some grease on it. Seemed fine until i went to run an errand this morning and it did the same thing. So, while there's a break in the rain, I go and have another look at this terminal connector. Turns out it too has cracked and is ready to break. Lovely. So since I need the car for today, I take the GM and get a…

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea boasted of being a "proud nuclear power" and threatened Monday to harm the U.S. if attacked as tensions mounted over a possible crackdown on exports of suspected missile parts from the North. President Barack Obama said the U.S. is ready to cope with "any contingencies" involving North Korea and vowed not to "reward belligerence and provocation." South Korea's YTN news network reported Sunday that a U.S. Navy destroyer tailing a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles and related parts was headed toward Myanmar in what could be the first test of new U.N. sanctions against the North over its recent nuclear test. The sanctions…

Well, after tooling about for a little over a year in the Buick, I see my GMAC coupons are telling me that I have 8 payments left..... So, considering that I have seen some rumblings about lease pull aheads, and assuming they will still be in effect in the next few months.... What ever shall I purchase this time?? My wish list before looking at the $$ deals, is a Camaro or pick up a G8 before they are gone. I wish the orange was still available on the G8. So, orange Camaro, with orange interior trim and black SS stripes, aqua blue Camaro with white SS stripes, stryker blue G8 or either car in the Sport Red tricoat. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

So, I must rant. In the local trade book was a listing for a 1982 VW Rabbit for $600. I thought to myself "Hmm, intriguing." I decide to call the guy up for more information and set up a meet for tomorrow. A few hours later, he calls me back and asks if I'd like to look at it tonight. Sure, why not... I go on my merry little way over to check it out. It had 68k original miles, the interior was pretty much immaculate, and the exterior was fairly decent without any rust whatsoever. I'm thinking "What's the catch? It must not run very well." The guy starts up for me. Runs pretty damn good... its even inspected. Then, another guy shows up on a bike. They've either met prev…

WASHINGTON -- The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House. TEHRAN, Iran – Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of "intolerable" meddling in its internal affairs, alleging for the first time that Washington has fueled a bitter postelection dispute. Opposition supporters marched in Tehran's streets for a third straight day to protest the outcome of the balloting. The Iranian government summoned the Swiss ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in Iran, to complain about American interference, state-run Press TV reported. The English-language channel quoted the government as calling Western interference "intolerable." President Barack Obama has reacted cautiously to developments in Iran, saying he shared the world's "…

I posted back in March about a possible surgery to repair an incisional hernia (above my belly button) that developed from my 2003 open heart surgery and made itself known in September 2008 at the NMCOA Mini Meet in Stillman Valley IL and then even more so in mid-February 2009. In March, I had decided to NOT get it repaired, since it was, according to the surgeon, small. However ... as some of you know ... that hernia had started to act up a bit more regularly the last few months (once, while I was visiting friends in Freeport IL in April) ... and with "car" and "road trip" season here, I decided enough was enough. so wisely i chose to suspend my direct tv last week. of course, until the other day, i didn't have any converter boxes either. well, i have one of them hooked up now. should be interesting to see if i am a go. does one need a whole new antennae also? i have the plasma, which has the digital tuner. I think i just need an antennae for that. i have 4 other TV's, of which 2 of them for now I will have converters for. I have an antennae hooked up to the first one which I believe is an HD antennae, but we'll see. Big question, is the converter box still worthless without a proper antennae? That's what i don't get. It's coming! Are you CONVERTED?

This is my idea for the next S2000 (about as good as any of those japanese "scoop" magazines anyhow). For my final project in my 3D design class I was supposed to make like a desk or something with some tools on it. It's a beginner's class after all. I decided to try my hand at a car, and figured I'd do a roadster (this is my first car model). It's incomplete but close enough (final was yesterday so I had to turn it in). I present to you, the 2010 Honda S2000! * Lighter-weight than outgoing model. * Retractable soft-top folds into forward trunk area. * Offered in three trim levels: base, Type R, and Type RR trim. * RWD X-frame chassis refine…

You know how older (and maybe newer, but can't recall seeing any) office chairs go up and down by spinning them like a nut on a bolt? Yeah, mine is like that, and I got a reminder why I don't like the design, at least when the "nit" (being the base of the chair" is threaded in plastic. Turn around last night at my desk, and there was a crack, followed by shaft (along with the rest of the chair and me on it)braking through the base and hitting the floor.

I've tried. I've spent some time soul-searching. And I've tried to let it go. But. like it or not, I'm still bitter about the loss of Pontiac and the G8 ST. I just can't forgive GM for this.

WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle inside the crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, gravely wounding a security guard before being shot. Authorities said they were investigating a white supremacist as the possible shooter. The assailant was in critical condition, said Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty. D.C. Police Chief Kathy Lanier said the gunman appeared to have acted alone. He was "engaged by security guards immediately after entering the door" with a rifle, she said. The museum normally has a heavy security presence with guards positioned both inside and outside. All visitors are required to pass through metal detectors at…

I can't remember who all here is in the auto sales business, but I believe Carbiz is? Anyway, I am looking at a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 that goes for about $8870 according to Kelly Blue Book. However, most of the same year / features / similar mileage that I've seen are between $7900 and $8500 (the $7900 is a private seller). The salesman that I am going through at a local F-L-M dealership is asking $8700, which my uncle (who owns a used car business and goes to auto auctions all the time) says is on the high side. He also says that KBB values are usually overinflated. My question is, what size profit margin would the dealer be expecting on this car? I realize they ca…

well last monday i made my final payment of $311.62 to GMAC on my 2004 Colorado. Yesterday i got this in the mail. on my way to work today i go and do this to it. i was on my way into work like i said. i was looking at a 70ish GMC pickup and there was a 94-7 mustang in front of me. he was prolly around 10-15 car lengths ahead. well when i looked back in front of me he was 5 and was turning... i stood on the pedal and almost made it but i kissed the stang right on the rear passenger side corner. long story short it only spider webbed the mustang but did a number on my bumper. no ticket though cause the owner was cool about it. my insurance agent said …

Yes, I've been scarce around here. The reasons are many & varied. Prob. the biggest & most significant is that I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with both the girls. Amelia it seems is growing up twice as fast as Sofia did, sh is seven months old as of Sunday. The day before that she got her first tooth. I'm trying to get as much Q.T. with all three as possible, while catching up on a lot of non-C&G related parts of my life. I still love you guys, I love this forum. But I have to admit the news from GM these s NOT what I need to cheer me up. I get up at 3:30am, go to UPS, end my slave-labor there…

Here are six reasons why you should think before you speak - The last one is great! Have you ever spoken and wished that you could Immediately take the words back... Or that you could crawl into a hole? Here are the Testimonials of a few! people who did.... FIRST TESTIMONY: I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly, 'How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?' I turned around and walked back out and never went back. My husband didn't say a word... He knew better. SECOND TESTIMONY: I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After…

Fiat Humor How do you get spare parts for a Fiat? Just follow another one around. What's the difference between a Fiat and a Jehovah's Witness? You can close the door on a Jehovah's Witness. When should you do the first oil change on a Fiat? When it gets to 50,000 miles or -- in other words -- never. Have you seen the latest Fiat anti-theft device? They enlarged the "Fiat" logo. What occupies the last six pages of the Fiat owner's manual? The bus and train timetables so you can find your way home. How can you get a Fiat to do 60 miles an hour? Push it over a cliff./ A friend went to a dealer the other day and said, "I'd like a gas cap for my Fi…

Does this whole bipartisan push for clunker laws bother anyone else here? I am by no means a conservative, but this just trikes me as a huge waste of government money when we have sooo many other good current uses for the money. Plus, think of all the cars that will be crushed... Plenty of B body big cars. Think of the Caprices that could be fixed up, or the third gen Camaros, or the post 72 El-Camino's, or the decent shape GM trucks that could find a life hauling around a farmer or a mason or something. Don't like this one bit. Thoughts? Chris

Since we seem to be at each others throats a little bit lately...let's take it "out into the parking lot" and fight over "cars' instead of stupid stuff. Here is what we can argue about-Suppose you have been picked by the Smithsonian to pick ONE GM car as a historical visual "high Water Mark" of North American car production. Let's suppose the Smithsonian will buy an example of this car and put it on permanant prominent public display. What would you pick? Also-Has to be built in North America, so PCS can't flood us with a fleet of Holdens. My pick-58-62 Chevrolet Corvette. To me even better than a 55 Nomad, 65 GTO, or other notable GM cars. That car just has the l…

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090609/ap_on_...ilding_collapse GARNER, N.C. – Officials now say only two people are unaccounted for after an explosion at a Slim Jim meat products plant in North Carolina. Emergency Medical Services official Jeffrey Hammerstein says a third person initially declared missing was found and went to the hospital along with 20 other people. He says authorities were still searching for two others but it wasn't clear whether they were inside the building. Hammerstein said five injured people were tagged as priority patients with serious conditions. Several workers reported hearing an explosion before the collapse, and Garner Mayor Ronnie Wil…
