By Roland Jones Associate editor MSNBC Time was when automakers would slap a wad of cash on a car’s hood to shift it off a dealer’s lot. These days, with gasoline prices climbing to new record highs almost daily, they’re slapping down a can of gas instead. With the summer driving season just around the corner, Chrysler recently launched its “Let’s Refuel America” program — an offer that caps the price of gasoline at $2.99 a gallon for three years for people who buy or lease new vehicles from the maker of Dodge and Jeep vehicles. The automaker, which was acquired last year by private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management for $7.4 billion, said this week that th…

Reuters Story DETROIT (Reuters) - Chrysler LLC has drawn interest from international and North American parties for the possible sale of its high-performance Dodge Viper sports car line, Vice Chairman and President Jim Press told reporters on Wednesday. Chrysler in late August announced it was exploring the sale of the Viper sports car business as part of its effort to generate cash and ride out the deepening U.S. auto industry downturn. The Viper is a low-volume V10-powered sports car first produced in 1992. "We have been approached by outside individuals who want to work with us to buy the asset and sustain Viper going forward," Press told reporters after an Au…

Latino rights promoter and famous over acter Ricardo Montalban playing along with Chrysler's not-from-Corinth Corinthian leather. If you think this is just some funny random old car ad, it had a serious, lasting effect on people. Baby Boomers loved the commercial and clearly bought the message. I feel we can learn much from the history of some amazing commercials and what might just be missing from getting people back into transportation. Quality is there, excitement is there, now we just need to find the right message to click for people driving again.

TCC Test: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Touring Chrysler hopes the Sebring will build on the momentum of the Chrysler 300 and the Caliber, though the former is beginning to slump in its golden years. The mid-size segment home to the Sebring is a huge one-it's good for 2 million units a year, representing 28 per cent of the passenger car market-and Chrysler has a small to nonexistent image in the segment. All this explains the Sebring's grabber styling and long list of options, but does it mean that Chrysler's now reached the same lofty plateau of its Japanese competitors? http://www.autoblog.com/2015/12/27/fiat-chrysler-buy-emissions-credits/ The world of carbon emissions uses some unusual units of measure. Take, for example, 8.2 million megagrams. Who needs to know how much that is? Someone at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, that's who.FCA had to buy that many greenhouse-gas emissions credits from greener automakers, Reuters says, citing a report from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Because its vehicles' collective fuel economy continues to trail the industry average, FCA purchased the emissions credits at of the end of 2014 in order to meet US emissions regulations. Last year, Chrysler announced that the 2012 Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger would be equipped with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from parent company Fiat. One year later, Chrysler has dropped the idea to put a dual-clutch transmission for now. "We were concerned about the refinement and how the American customers might perceive the transmission," said Chrysler Spokesperson, Vince Muniga. Muniga also said the decision was made in the summer and will "look for other future products" to put it in for the North American market. Bribery Exposed in DCX Investigation DaimlerChrysler AG has hired former FBI director Louis Freeh to serve as an outside monitor as it nears the end of a two-year internal investigation that has uncovered multiple instances of bribery by company employees, according to people familiar with the situation. Not a pleasant day at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as the company was handed a $70 Million fine by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for failing to report death and injury claims to regulators. Now this penalty comes from FCA admitting to NHTSA that it failed to provide Early Warning Report data to NHTSA over several years starting in 2003. Now this is required by the TREAD Act of 2000 where an automaker provides claims of death and injuries, warranty claims, consumer complaints and field reports of safety issues as a way to identify a possible defect. Automotive News reports that FCA has brought in a third-party to do an audit of its reporting failu…

Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co. have postponed plans to share a North American-built small car and a full-sized pickup until they can reduce costs. A third vehicle-sharing project, in which Chrysler will sell a version of Nissan's compact Versa sedan, will continue on schedule, the companies said late Thursday. The automakers blamed the interruption on a worsening economic picture, including dollar-yen exchange rates, that is throwing sales forecasts in doubt. "Because of current economic conditions, Nissan and Chrysler teams working on the two other projects have been asked to ensure that financial objectives for both companies can be met before these two projec…

Chrysler issues sharp rebuke to Advertising Age On December 3rd, 2009, AdvertisingAge wrote an article criticizing Chrysler for using taxpayer funds to pay an Italian advertising agency to produce a commercial. A rather bitter Peter Delorenzo, from AutoExtremist.com says, "I'm sure the hundreds of people from BBDO who are being blown out the door are going to just love this, not to mention the U.S. taxpayer." Does anyone around here know what the lug design (aside from 5-lug, I know that) and measurements of the Mk 1 Clouds is compared with that of the Mk 2 LH's and Mk 3 minivans? Supposing I get the money and (want to spend it on such a thing) decide an upgrade to the wheels/tires of my Breeze, I was wondering if Chrysler's "Genesis II" aluminum wheels would fit the Breeze. These wheels were used on some SE Intrepids, and Sport, LE, ES, ES AWD (1999-2000 ES) minivans. I especially like their appearance, and they are 16" in diameter, so they aren't anything outrageously big. What they look like: And look slightly similar to:

One of the weakest points of the base V6-equipped Dodge Challenger SE has been the transmission. Chrysler saddled the SE with the old four-speed automatic instead of the Mercedes designed five-speed used in the V8 models. Chrysler used the occasion of an LX owners meet this weekend to debut a new SE Rallye edition that finally gives the V6 the extra ratio it needs. The Rallye also gets hood and decklid stripes, and five spoke 18-inch wheels. Hopefully Chrysler tightens up the suspension a bit to eliminate some of the floatiness of the SE. The SE Rallye will reportedly run $26,490 after production starts next month. Autoblog

Apparently this wasn't the only filing Chrysler did. Car & Driver found a trademark application filled by the company to register “HFE High Fuel Efficiency”. The possible descriptor would most likely come on models that have small-displacement engines, and come with low rolling resistance tires and enhanced aerodynamics Currently, Chrysler uses the name of Aero to refer to its most fuel-efficient models. Tomorrow morning, Chrysler will unveil the Chrysler Halcyon Concept EV on their website. The Halcyon is an evolution from the Chrysler Airflow Concept shown in 2022. Chrysler has teased various vague images over the last few weeks, showing an updated logo and some various, undefined body lines with little else in the way of clues. Two things that stand out from the teaser images are the shape of the back glass and the full-width tail lamps. What we can expect is that the Halcyon will be a two-row crossover, and it will sit on the Stellantis STLA platform. We also already know that since the merger, Stellantis planned on moving most of the U.S. brands to PSA platforms…

As we learned this morning from Bob Nardelli's appearance on CNBC, Chrysler LLC is getting into the electric vehicle game and plans to have something on the market by the end of 2010 – the same time GM plans to start selling the 2011 Chevy Volt. The vehicle in question will be one of these three EVs, all of which are powered fully or in part by electrons. The first and perhaps most exciting is the Dodge EV, which is an all-electric sports car like the Tesla Roadster. In fact, Chrysler seems to have taken a few pages from Tesla's playbook, which is evident by the fact that its EV is wearing the body of a Lotus Europa at the moment. Lotus also worked with Tesla on the dev…

Chrysler's EVs are for real When Chrysler rolled out three electric vehicle prototypes a couple of weeks ago most EV experts were skeptical. They were even more skeptical when the company claimed that it would have an EV on sale by 2010. Well, to hear Chrysler tell it, it's not behind at all. It is the first major automaker to actually allow members of the media and dealers to drive its production-intent EV's. Gotta love disposable-income 'visionarys' like this... guy had great taste. http://www.roadkillo...nderdesoto.html Page was built in 2007- will have to poke around & see if I can find what happened to them EDIT: the '61 sold for $21K. '58 ambulance went for $36K. Anyone cares; the sale prices are here.

Chrysler deal with Getrag reportedly dead Posted Oct 19th 2008 9:31AM Link to Auto Blog Things were just starting to look up for Chrysler's upcoming powertrains. The Phoenix V6 will hopefully return competitiveness to the engine bays of Pentastar vehicles, and a dual-clutch automated manual transmission joint venture with Getrag was nearly off the ground before both companies started shoving lawyers at each other. A joint venture plant has been built in Indiana, but the deal fell apart over money for tooling. Chrysler's shot a lawsuit at Getrag, alleging that the transmission specialist hasn't ponied up for tooling and equipment to build the gearboxes. For its part, …

227 Skilled-Trades Workers File Appeal Against Chrysler/UAW Agreement William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com November 4, 2011 The United Auto Workers announced the ratification of a new four-year labor deal with Chrysler on October 26th, but an appeal from a group of skilled-trades workers could put a stop to it. A total 227 skilled-trades workers signed an appeal that was filed with the UAW’s International Executive Board on Friday. The UAW's constitution allows skilled-trades workers to reject a contract if they vote against it for reasons that pertain to skilled-trades issues. However, the UAW International Executive Board rule…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 17, 2012 Chrysler announced today that they will idle their Mack II engine plant in Detroit in September as production of the 3.7L V6 comes to an end. The 3.7L V6 powered the Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram, and Jeep Liberty. The Dodge Nitro has already been shown the door. The current Jeep Liberty will end its run next month as the Toledo, Ohio plant where it’s built undergoes a $500 million upgrade. The Ram drops the 3.7L V6 for the 3.6L Pentastar V6 due out later this year. About 200 employees who work at the Mack II engine plant have received received layoff notices but won’t lose their jobs. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 22, 2012 Back in July, SRT CEO Ralph Gilles told Automotive News that around 15 to 20% of the 2,300 Chrysler dealers (about 340 to 460) would be able to sell the Viper. Now, that amount has shrunk. According to USA Today, the amount of dealers that will be able to sell the Viper is now around 5% (100 to 150 dealers). That number comes from Ralph Gilles. All 2,300 Chrysler dealers are being sent a letter outlining what will need to happen for them to sell the Viper. The No. 1 requirement "Is first of all, to have the fire, the passion. That's the unofficial requirement -- that you have a love affair with the c…

Chrysler plans for the future Posted Sep 4th 2008 cnet.com Link to Article At the Western Automotive Journalists' dinner this week, Jim Press, President of Chrysler, told me exactly what I wanted to hear. When I asked how he plans on differentiating the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep brands, he put it this way: Jeep will remain an iconic off-roader, with no soft-roaders spoiling the brand; Dodge will be the performance brand, but will also be a volume play; and Chrysler focuses on luxury, competing with brands like Acura. Maybe this type of brand differentiation just fits conventional wisdom, but it seems like a smart plan to me. Yet, in speaking more generally about the…

The chief executive of Chrysler says the automaker's recovery will be gradual but the company is making progress following its speedy government-led bankruptcy. CEO Sergio Marchionne (MAR-key-own-ee) said in a speech to a Washington think tank that his new leadership team is "not planning miracles at Chrysler" but is committed to creating "rapid change" at the Michigan automaker. Marchionne's Fiat Group SpA owns 20 percent of Chrysler with an opportunity for more and was put in charge of rescuing the automaker by the U.S. government. Chrysler emerged from bankruptcy protection in June. He told the Peterson Institute for International Economics that Chrysler broke even …

http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/1582/ The Dodge Viper has joined that exclusive club of cars that will top 250mph. In fact, the Hennessey Venom Twin Turbo, as this particular tuned Viper is called, is claimed to whup a Veyron's ass with a top speed of 255mph. Other vital statistics include a 1,000bhp 8.3-litre V10 engine with two turbos attached and 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds. Developed by American tuner Hennessey, the Venom comes with aerodynamic aids to keep it pinned to the ground at full tilt. These include a new front air dam and rear diffuser. There's also adjustable traction control and a heavy-duty rear differential to cope with the power. Despite th…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 27, 2012 There seems to be an endless stream of teasers, leaked Hot Wheel shots, and rumors about the new Viper. Now, some new spy shots are joining in the Viper stream. The shots reveal the new Viper will have an easier time breathing thanks to pair of large vents on either side of the Viper's trademark triangular air intake. Inside, the new Viper will ditch analog gauges for a full digital dashboard (complete with 220 MPH speedo). Source: Autoblog View full article

By Emily Chasan Emily Chasan – Fri May 29, 8:27 am ET Link to Story NEW YORK (Reuters) – Lee Iacocca, the car executive credited with saving Chrysler from bankruptcy in the 1980s, is to lose a big chunk of his pension and a guaranteed life-long company car due to the U.S. automaker's bankruptcy filing two decades later. Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli told a U.S. bankruptcy court on Thursday that Iacocca's pension would be among the obligations Chrysler will no longer have to pay if it gets bankruptcy court approval to sell itself to a "New Chrysler" to be owned by its union, the U.S. and Canadian governments and Fiat SpA (FIA.MI). Iacocca, the storied former chair…

Chrysler to Reveal Restructuring Plan Feb. 2007 Chrysler Group CEO Tom LaSorda presented the broad outlines of a plan to restructure the Auburn Hills automaker to DaimlerChrysler AG's management board Wednesday in Stuttgart, Germany, according to company sources. DaimlerChrysler is scheduled to announce the plan -- which some analysts view as its final attempt to fix Chrysler -- in mid-February. The plan is likely to be put to DaimlerChrysler's governing supervisory board on Feb. 13 for approval and could be announced that day or on Feb. 14 during DaimlerChrysler's annual results conference. The news conference will be held at Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills for…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 3, 2011 2011 saw Chrysler rise up and build momentum and profits with models like the new Chrysler 300 and revised Jeep Wrangler. However, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is being cautious. In an email obtained by The Detroit News, Marchionne says 2012 will be another pivotal year. "Over the past 12 months, we successfully changed the conversation from Chrysler's survival to products and service that consumers expect and want from a great American automaker. What's past is prologue. The stage is set for another critical year in our drive to transform Chrysler." Marchionne said in the email that the progress …

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/18/cerberu...sler-financial/ I know it had been mentioned plenty that Cerberus would now own both Chrysler and a controlling stake in GMAC, but what's interesting is thinking about this in context of Chrysler Credit and GMAC tieups. I don't know what kind of synergies could be found (I'm not that well versed on the financial sector) but these companies are already cash cows. If they did find synergies and made a tieup, that alone could go a long way toward justifying their investment in Chrysler.

July 4, 2009 - 12:01 am ET MILAN (Reuters) -- CEO Sergio Marchionne's immediate product plans for Chrysler Group could be limited to weeding out weaker models and tweaking prices as he gears up to launch new designs within two years. Marchionne, who also heads Fiat S.p.A., took the wheel at the struggling U.S. car maker in June after sealing a deal for the Italian company to take a 20 percent stake in return for getting Chrysler back to health with the help of Fiat technology. He said on June 26 he hoped to have "at least a road map from a product standpoint" in 14 days, and on Wednesday said he wanted to decide what to do with Chrysler's Dodge and Fiat's Alfa Rom…

[source: MotorAuthority] Fiat ranks last in UK JD Power survey, bodes poorly for Chrysler Chrysler's vehicles, like all of America's cars, have improved greatly in recent years. But not-too-distant memory reminds us of the Le Baron and even of another ill-fated Italian tie-up and its Maserati-branded spawn. So Fiat's poor scores in the most recent JD Power survey in the United Kingdom gives cause to wonder if the Fiat-Chrysler union might ultimately be a tragic one. Fiat's role in helping to save Chrysler post-bankruptcy was applauded by President Obama just days ago, but already the naysayers are building their case. And unfortunatel…

Alysha Webb Automotive News September 17, 2007 - 12:01 am EST SHANGHAI — Chrysler LLC could not have made a better choice to head its Asia operations than Phil Murtaugh. He is widely respected, has many years of China experience and played a major role in making General Motors a success in China. But Chrysler management in Detroit will have to give him free rein to operate. GM made a big mistake a couple of years ago when it diluted Murtaugh's decision-making authority. Chrysler also will have to give him some help in the form of the right models to sell. During his long run as GM's top man in China, which began in 1996, Murtaugh demonstrated a deep under…

Chrysler invented the minivan 43 years ago, and more than 16.6 million of them later, the Pacifica arrives at the 2026 New York International Auto Show with its most significant visual update in years. The 2027 Pacifica debuts a new front fascia that Chrysler says defines the design language for the brand going forward. A New Face for the Brand The exterior redesign applies to the Select, Limited, and Pinnacle trims. The new entry-level LX (the renamed Voyager) retains its familiar exterior and offers the lineup's lowest entry point, well-equipped with power-sliding doors and heated seats and steering wheel. On the upper three trims, the centerpiece of the r…
