Picked up my Volt on March 10th. Volt #1712. Black w/black cloth interior. The only option are the polished wheels, which look great with black exterior and the other touches of chrome trim. Each Volt displays their build number as part of the NAV screen display. I'm not sure if that will always be the case or only for the first model year. I had no real intention of getting one, I had been monitoring my local dealers through CARS.com to see if there was one within 50 miles of me, just so I could see one and perhaps test drive. No dealers had one in JAN or FEB. In early MAR one showed up at a local dealer. I went down on a Saturday to check it out. I was told it…

I just purchased a 2006 Colorado 4x4 Extended Cab Z71. I really don't like the small 15 inch wheels and tires and would like to replace them with the 18 inch wheels that come with the Extreme and the ZQ8 sport suspension option. Is this a possible swap? I have always heard that 2wd wheels will not work on 4wd trucks, but its not like I'm going mudding with it and putting all of the stresses of a 4wd on it daily. Some hauling, some towing, but thats about it. Does anyone know if this will work? Also, does anyone know what the tire conversion would be from my 15's to the 18's to keep the same diameter, speed, and braking the same as it is now? Thanks, any help o…

  9. The performance off-road mid-size pickup truck war has turned into a hot war in 2023. Ford has recently released their 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, and Toyota introduced an all-new 2024 Tacoma with an incredibly capable Tacoma TRD Off Road. Back in 2018, Chevrolet teamed up with American Expedition Vehicles to the 2019 Chevy Colorado Bison ZR2 to the Colorado lineup. About a year ago, the all-new 2023 Colorado was released, and while there was a ZR2, the Bison was not part of the announcement. Today, Chevy remedied that by announcing a new Chevrolet Colorado Bison ZR2 for 2024. The Bison starts with the ZR2's longer wheelbase and high-output 2.7L turbo producing…

Someone help me out on this one. The 2006 Impala's 3.5 V-6 (210 hp) can take E-85 gas, but not the 3.5 in the Malibu, G6. For that matter, why don't all of GM's passenger V-6 and V-8 engines at least have the option of E-85 gas? The station down the street from my office is selling 101 octane E-85 at $1.98 per gallon, as opposed to the $2.79 for low octane unleaded at the same station. GM needs to get out in front of this issue. E-85 gas helps reduce our foreign oil dependency (which multiplies American power in the world), is good for the environment and helps the American farmer. Why doesn't GM at least offer E-85 compatability as an opti…

I'd really like to see a spoiler delete option... or make the wing a dealer-installed thing like the ION Redline, so the customer has a chance to decline it. Chevy HHR A turbocharger roosts under the HHR’s retro-styled hood. BY ERIK JOHNSON, August 2007 As Chrysler uses Detroit’s annual Woodward Dream Cruise to roll out another snoozer special edition of the extremely long-in-the-tooth PT Cruiser—this time the Sunset Boulevard Cruiser, inspired by a street 2300 miles and several tax brackets away from Motown’s famed Avenue—Chevrolet has decided to inject a little bit of muscle into the event. The Detroit News learned that production of the Spark EV ended last summer as a part of a move by Chevrolet to get ready with selling the Bolt EV. Another reason not listed in the story is that the Spark EV was based on the previous-generation model, not the all-new model. When Chevrolet revealed the Bolt EV back in 2015, GM executives said the Bolt would likely not replace the Spark EV. Chevrolet spokesman Fred Ligouri said Chevrolet sold about 7,400 Spark EVs during its three-year run from 2013 to 2016. The model was only sold in California, Maryland, and Oregon. Source:…

For those into Corvettes, this might be of interest. I came across these UK magazine test times. I think they show what a showroom car can do. Since they were export cars, it's unlikely they were enhanced for magazine testing. Chevy Volt Hysteria: We’re All Going to Die! Or, An Application of Facts and Rationality to Flaming Batteries and Melting Chargers One can learn a lot from history. When gasoline-fueled motor cars began roaming streets (and their proxies) in great numbers at the beginning of the 20th century, fuel tanks were thought to be ready to burst into flames if looked at sideways, and gasoline run-off was blamed for sewer explosions. Such fear and misinformation prompted the New York Times to release a piece in 1912 entitled “Gasoline Is Not Dangerous Fluid.” Action-flick writers excepted, people today generally understand that the internal-combustion engine’s fuel doesn’t …

Chevrolet has revealed ahead of the DAYTONA 500 the Chevrolet Blazer EV.R prototype which is an example of their dedication to test, and explore new technologies as they learn how to apply the technology to both racing and production version auto's. The Blazer EV.R prototype delivers 1,300 horsepower from three six-phase electric motors that instantly rev up to 15,000 rpms, power w…

Toyota was getting huge P.R. mileage out of its Prius hybrid, even as the automaker was gearing up to make inroads into the least energy-efficient segments of the market, large SUVs and pickups. Adding insult to injury, Lutz heard in late 2005 about a Silicon Valley company called Tesla Motors that was developing a high-performance electric car, which would sell for $100,000. Such a car would not be commer…

It’s still smooth as silk otherwise. So much for all those Master Craftsmen

December 7, 2005 First Drive: 2006 Corvette Coupe Z51 Review and photos by Michael La Fave Over the years I have had the opportunity to drive a lot of Corvettes. I even sort of own one: a 1987 coupe with the mid-level Bilstein performance suspension, oil and trans coolers, shorter final drive and every conceivable luxury feature. The point of telling you about the '87 is to simultaneously divulge what might be perceived as a bias and the desire to express my fondness of the marque. Some of my favourite 'Vettes (that I've driven) are: our two-tone '87, the 330-hp, six-speed manual 1996 Collector's Edition, the 2001 Corvette Z06 and a rare, custom-built Z06 conver…

So has anyone got any idea of the font featured on the 2010 Camaro on the body or on the Chevy website? It is a Camaro logo with squared off letters. They use it on the Camaro5 forums too. But I am not a memeber there and was wondering if any of you smart people have any knowledge of it? Or could share it with me. (Would like it for photochops.)
