Yesterday, with over a quarter of a million miles, I put the 4th serpertine belt at a blended GM dealership a little further out since they had a good parts and labor price (about $90). I had a great experience visiting that service department. This is actually the third such experience. a) At a Costco in California, I went in there for a tire rotation. There was this real weird guy who (a) wouldn't rotate my tires front to back as I had requested because he wanted to do the diagonal rotation, but did so after I kept arguing with him, and (b) while talking to him, told me that frequent oil changes (even 3,000 miles) hurt the car more than changing the oil infrequent…

Well one month before final payment on the LSS, "someone" decided to key the LSS..............one month later they keyed it again and threw something on the paint that made the color under the clearcoat darken..............really looks like $h!! . then a week later they decided to key it yet again and gas cap was off and hanging . yes I know who it is, it took awhile to figure out, its a past girlfriend with an axe to grind but shes out of control, known for crazy stunts........but I never expected this and no! I did not burn her, in fact I always considered her a great friend and am more hurt than angry . anyhow, forget all that, its time for…

This years elections seem to hold much more weight this year than in previous elections. We're at a time where Imagration Reform & such is high on our congressmen and womens plates. Factor in Governer elections and it's going to be a busy year! I may actually have to vote Republican for Governer here in Michigan. Dick Devos has a message I like.

Since I graduated high school, I have been on a never ending quest to figure out what I want to do, because of this I have had several different majors(Education, Geology, Art History ((WTF??)), English, Business and Psychology are the highlights) and finally decided to take my education more slowly so I could focus on the big picture. Well, the big picture has finally led me to a path I can see myself following. After I get my Associate degree this coming December I will enroll at either Missouri State University or re-enroll at the University of Missouri-Columbia, regardless of which school I choose, I will major in journalism. And if I do become an automotive jou…

I know that LSx engines get stronger as they get less "green," but I've never heard of them getting better gas mileage as well. When I got the GTO with about 6k miles on it, I got 13.3.-13.5MPG consistently on each tank. Then one tank I averaged 14.1MPG and was presently surprised. That went on for a couple tanks, and then the last tank I got 14.6MPG. I thought maybe I was just babying it more than I used to, but now more than 3/4 of the way through the current tank I'm getting 15.1MPG and am definetly not babying it all the time. Anyone ever heard of the LS1 increasing performance AND gas mileage over time? This is also interesting because the Alero which is 700lb…

I voted for the (452 ci, ohc V16) Cadillac, as should YOU! http://autoshow.autos.msn.com/autoshow/peb...h2008/vote.aspx This poll is so damn arbitrary and randomly nonsensical the only reason why I cared was to give props to the V16 powered pre-war car, and by extension GM/Caddy.

Hi there, it's your favorite staff writer! Okay, maybe I am embellishing this a bit. It has been about six months since I have announced that I would stepping away from my full-time role as a staff writer for a job with JATO Dynamics as a specs researcher. This past week marked six months at the new job and I thought it would be a good time to give an update of where I stand. To start, the new job has been working out very well. Most of my work deals with taking data from automakers on various vehicles and putting into our systems. That may seem tedious (and there makes and model where it is that), but I am oddly enjoying. I think a lot of comes from figuring o…

Hey all, First I checked the entire forum rules that I could find and I didn't see anything that says I couldn't promote this here. If that is the case my sincere apologizes to the mods. I will be starting my new bartending job at McFadden’s in NYC this coming Thursday evening. It's the end of the summer party so it should be especially crazy. The place has good food, good booze and great music so if you're a C&G person around the city this Thursday stop by at or after 10 PM. Say "I'm here because of Dan" at the door and I'll make sure to give extra buybacks on top of the already great drink specials for anyone here. McFadden’s is convenient to Grand Cen…

Okay experts, I need some advice for a senior student who is about to get their driver's license and came to me for advice on purchasing a used car. They are looking at a local small-time (very small I should say, they have 10 cars in their inventory) used-car dealership's inventory of two used Saturn vehicles: 1998 SL2 Sedan: Info: 4-cyl, auto, ps, pb, air, 120,435 miles, VIN WZ258740 - $2,699 1995 SL2 Sedan: Info: 4-cyl, auto, ps, pb, air, 96,205 miles, VIN SZ354921 - $2,699 Which of the two cars would you advise them to seriously look into purchasing? I rarely ever see commercials, w/ tiVo, but happened to catch some while catching up on last night's South Park... the Kia Soul ad is clever, with the hamsters. The Burger King Squarebutts ad is trippy (with a cameo by Sir Mix-a-Lot and a reworking of his seminal song, 'Baby Got Back')... saw a strange Cheetos ad also.

i think i recall you saying post 55 aint a packard but i saw this on ebay and thought it was interesting if anything. 1958 Packard Station Wagon eh i'd rather have a 60's wagon but it seemed cool just for the fact you dont see any. btw here are also some pics of our old 55 clipper constelation originally an automatic, my great aunt and uncle had trouble with it so they sent some uys from atlanta where they bought it out with a manual and swapped it out. never changed back. it had tinted windows, power windows, and the self leveling ride system. there are a few other neat things but i cant recall them at the moment.

North Carolina Transportation Museum -- Spencer Shops History of the N.C. Transportation Museum The N.C. Transportation Museum is located on the site of what was once Southern Railway Company's largest steam locomotive servicing facility. J.P. Morgan, Southern's owner, chose the site because of its location midway between the railroad's major terminal points of Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Ga. Construction of the Shops began in 1896, and they were named in honor of the first president of Southern Railway, Samuel Spencer. During its peak, Spencer Shops employed nearly 3,000 people, which directly and indirectly provided most of the jobs for the towns of Spencer, E…

I came across a few old car commericals in the past few days, and thought I would share it. With the exception of 1 commerical, the rest represent everything that was bad about advertising in the 70's and 80's. Cheesyness to the utmost extreme...... bad music, lots and lots of it (with the exception of 1 song). http://www.ttzd.com/movies/archive/300_01l.mpg This first one is an ad for the Nissan (or as metioned in the ad, Datsun) 300ZX. I think it's 1984. Keep an eye out for a feature that's on a '06 Civic. http://www.ttzd.com/movies/archive/n_r_t.mpg This is also a 300ZX, but from 1995. GIJoe. Barbie. Van Halen. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... every evening this week I've tried to get in to the gym. But the parking lot is full to capacity, with 4 or 5 cars blocking the aisles, following people to their cars so they can grab their spots. It's this way every January since I joined there a few years ago. By next month, I predict all will be normal again, and the couch potatoes will plant themselves once more. Sigh.

I haven't been able to find it on YouTube, but tonight I noticed an ad for the Nissan Altima that opened up with acutal quotes from Motor Trend and Car and Driver reviews of the Toyota Camry. Both quotes directed insult to the Camry, with the Car and Driver quote saying the Camry was "dull as dishwater." You know who should be making an ad just like that for their mainstream sedan, right? Bravo to Nissan for doing what a certain car company never had the balls to do.

So Readers Digest has this contest where you show your "spirit" for your town (or a town) in order for the town to win money towards an improvement. The town my dad grew up in and my aunt and uncle still live is currently in second place in the "population under 99,000" category, and are trying to win $40,000 towards making the town library handicap accessible. In addition, all individuals are entered into a contest to win $35,000 towards a car and roadtrip across America. Feel free to vote for your own town/city, but if you don't care and just want to have the chance to win a car and trip, please vote here: http://wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com/town.jsp?town=FAIRB…

I was watching Future weapons and found that they have a bullet that can be basically a point and shoot at 2500 yards on a cold bore shot. Thats very impressive I would bow down to that. But I remember reading about gravity, elevation, temperature, and all those other variables that effect a ballistic path. Its not like you can line up the cross hairs and go. you had to mentally do all the math from your GPS, offset your X hairs, and commit. I believe my longest one is 1,917 yards but about 5 minutes after that shot I don't remember anything but waking up that night in a Medic tent in unbearable pain. Sadly the Guy that saved me that day died on my birthday this year. …

Since I've rehooked up my stereo surround sound I've been on a movie trip. I did go rent two movies that I have never seen, that being "Waiting" featuring my favorite actor Ryan Reynolds. Then, naturally I had to get a Nick Cage movie which was "God Of War" Now, I'm about 3o minutes into Team America World Police which I just love this movie about as much as Van Wilder. End result is both programs are expected to be insolvent and the gov continues to increase spending on defense over taking care of the country. 10,000 baby boomers retire every day making this an even bigger uglier mess. We are in the 10th year by some of a bull market that has quadrupled since March 2009 with an…

I went to the Coronado Speed Festival this past weekend, at Coronado Island/North Island NAS in San Diego. Had a great weekend, saw a bunch of neat vintage race cars, some racing, and a variety of interesting street cars on show. A little of bit of everything--lots of Porsches since the 911 was featured marque, '70s Datsun race cars, some vintage Trans Am cars, NASCAR cars, Can Am cars, open wheel race cars. Got to meet Tony Adamowicz, great guy to chat with. here's a few pics.. More pics at my Fotki album here http://public.fotki....ado-speed-fest/

I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but I am GM to the core except for one thing.... XM sucks and Sirius is the best. Anybody else here listen to Howard Stern or Bubba the Love Sponge? I hear now that you can get a new "brain" for your car to switch the radio from XM to Sirius.

No, it's not mine. I took my trailer and helped a friend pick up a '69 GMC 2WD shortbed fleetside today. Pretty cool little truck and a fairly solid project.

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of "intolerable" meddling in its internal affairs, alleging for the first time that Washington has fueled a bitter postelection dispute. Opposition supporters marched in Tehran's streets for a third straight day to protest the outcome of the balloting. The Iranian government summoned the Swiss ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in Iran, to complain about American interference, state-run Press TV reported. The English-language channel quoted the government as calling Western interference "intolerable." President Barack Obama has reacted cautiously to developments in Iran, saying he shared the world's "…

I was at the grocery store and sawr a maroon Focus sedan, a few years old, with two bumper stickers, I was hoping someone, somewhere, may have an idear what they mean: one was a strip, about a foot wide and less than an inch tall, with all the colors of the rainbow. The other was white lettering on a green background, with a word I've been unable to find in Webster's: "VAGINATARIAN". I'm usually pretty good with words, but this has me stumped. Any idears?

So I've been thinking about the future of the car. Assuming that electric cars are the future... or at least some sort of hybrid drivetrain, and that motors, engines, batterys/capacitors will continue to shrink, I was thinking that the current debate of FWD vs. RWD will change radically. FWD's biggest selling point is that the weight of the engine is over the drive wheels. And for the car makers, its a packaging benefit. Since electrics tend to put the batterys in the center of the car, and there are many prototypes of electric motors that are located in the wheels of the car, negating the need for a large motor in the front of the car, the weight is actually shifting …

I have a 2013 Buick LaCrosse and I've noticed that whenever the low fuel light comes on, the amount of chimes is random. I either get 2 rounds of 4 chimes, or one round of 5, 6, or 7. Is there any reason behind this that anyone knows of?
