Came across this story of 17 photo's of auto purgatory. Amazing to see even a couple places in the US but most are in Europe. Amazing to see just how many Citreons, Fiats and Honda's are sitting around due to over production telling us there is plenty of room for consolidation. Interesting photo of a NJ lot with hundreds of near identical 2nd generation new Dakotas. http://www.odometer.com/rides/10497/17-mind-blowing-pics-of-places-in-the-world-where-unsold-cars-waste-away#slide/0/1

One that says all RV interiors have to be really ugly? I just spent a few hours scanning ads for RVs and every last one of them had a hideous interior full of crazy floral patterns and some very funky colors. I don't get it.

Since I graduated high school, I have been on a never ending quest to figure out what I want to do, because of this I have had several different majors(Education, Geology, Art History ((WTF??)), English, Business and Psychology are the highlights) and finally decided to take my education more slowly so I could focus on the big picture. Well, the big picture has finally led me to a path I can see myself following. After I get my Associate degree this coming December I will enroll at either Missouri State University or re-enroll at the University of Missouri-Columbia, regardless of which school I choose, I will major in journalism. And if I do become an automotive jou…

POWERPOINT Linkity A PowerPoint diagram meant to portray the complexity of American strategy in Afghanistan WASHINGTON — Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the leader of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan, was shown a PowerPoint slide in Kabul last summer that was meant to portray the complexity of American military strategy, but looked more like a bowl of spaghetti. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, center, in Kabul in March. He gets PowerPoint printouts the night before staff meetings. "When we understand that slide, we'll have won the war," General McChrystal dryly remarked, one of his advisers recalled, as the room erupted in laughter. The slide has since b…

Well one month before final payment on the LSS, "someone" decided to key the LSS..............one month later they keyed it again and threw something on the paint that made the color under the clearcoat darken..............really looks like $h!! . then a week later they decided to key it yet again and gas cap was off and hanging . yes I know who it is, it took awhile to figure out, its a past girlfriend with an axe to grind but shes out of control, known for crazy stunts........but I never expected this and no! I did not burn her, in fact I always considered her a great friend and am more hurt than angry . anyhow, forget all that, its time for…

Over the course of the next 3 weeks I will be attending a few Media Drives. I cannot possibly drive and review every vehicle offered at these events and unfortunately, I will not know which vehicles will be available for drives until I actually get to the event (with the exception of Buick, I happen to know that their entire lineup will be available). At these drives, all but the most exotic brands will be there. (Though Rolls and Bentley have attended in the past.) Please list the most important recent releases that you feel we should focus on if they are available for a drive that have not yet visited C&G for a review. Once we have a list, we will pick the top 15…

Nothing worse than just settling down into bed after drinking all night to hear a tinny, mechanical voice out in the hallway, ear-piercing sirens, and be blinded by flashing lights at 3 AM. God I hate false fire alarms.

I was talking to my cousin over the weekend. She has a co-worker who returned an FJ Cruiser off lease and got into a new Edge. I was happy to hear that. This got me thinking... is there a source of information somewhere that lists percentages of models traded for others? For example, statistically, what are the top 3 vehicles traded in for an Impala, and so forth. I'm sure some surprises would be in store. Does anyone know where this information can be found?

I rarely ever see commercials, w/ tiVo, but happened to catch some while catching up on last night's South Park... the Kia Soul ad is clever, with the hamsters. The Burger King Squarebutts ad is trippy (with a cameo by Sir Mix-a-Lot and a reworking of his seminal song, 'Baby Got Back')... saw a strange Cheetos ad also.

* Put lots of energy & excitement into my road trips 2002-2011, but believe my most-memorable was Route 66, September 2009. A fun part was exploring towns, particularly town squares, like this in Girard IL: http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/06/23/tuesday-trip-23/ Any guesses as to the car to which this engine belongs!? http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/06/23/daily-dose-trivia-tue-23/ Cort www.oldcarsstronghearts.com 1979 & 1989 Caprice Classics | pigValve, paceMaker, cowValve "Nothing lasts forever" __ Simple Plan __ 'Perfect'

I was at the grocery store and sawr a maroon Focus sedan, a few years old, with two bumper stickers, I was hoping someone, somewhere, may have an idear what they mean: one was a strip, about a foot wide and less than an inch tall, with all the colors of the rainbow. The other was white lettering on a green background, with a word I've been unable to find in Webster's: "VAGINATARIAN". I'm usually pretty good with words, but this has me stumped. Any idears?

Hey all, First I checked the entire forum rules that I could find and I didn't see anything that says I couldn't promote this here. If that is the case my sincere apologizes to the mods. I will be starting my new bartending job at McFadden’s in NYC this coming Thursday evening. It's the end of the summer party so it should be especially crazy. The place has good food, good booze and great music so if you're a C&G person around the city this Thursday stop by at or after 10 PM. Say "I'm here because of Dan" at the door and I'll make sure to give extra buybacks on top of the already great drink specials for anyone here. McFadden’s is convenient to Grand Cen…

From the first debate: Obama: Senator McCain mentioned Henry Kissinger, who's one of his advisers, who, along with five recent secretaries of state, just said that we should meet with Iran – guess what – without precondition. This is one of your own advisers. McCain rejected Obama's claim: McCain: By the way, my friend, Dr. Kissinger, who's been my friend for 35 years, would be interested to hear this conversation and Senator Obama's depiction of his -- of his positions on the issue. Happy Holidays to all this 2017! We have all had our take on the auto industry and much more this year, it has been one for the history books and it now looks to be the start of an industry changing year as the success of the Chevy Bolt, start of rough production for Tesla 3 and so many new options as the industry moves from cars to CUVs and an exciting Detroit auto show ahead of us. Just wanted to take a few minutes to say thank you to all that have made Cheers and Gears such an entertaining and awesome place to talk about the auto industry. Way too many people to thank each one individually but want to say; Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all!

North Carolina Transportation Museum -- Spencer Shops History of the N.C. Transportation Museum The N.C. Transportation Museum is located on the site of what was once Southern Railway Company's largest steam locomotive servicing facility. J.P. Morgan, Southern's owner, chose the site because of its location midway between the railroad's major terminal points of Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Ga. Construction of the Shops began in 1896, and they were named in honor of the first president of Southern Railway, Samuel Spencer. During its peak, Spencer Shops employed nearly 3,000 people, which directly and indirectly provided most of the jobs for the towns of Spencer, E…

My Dad replaced his '03 Dodge Dakota with a brand-new Inferno Red '06 Dakota today. It was an impulse buy to say the least. A water-pump had gone on his '03 earlier today, so he brought it directly to the dealer for service. Instead of coming home with a repaired '03, he came home with a new '06. The dealer practically gave the thing away (he had several months left on his original lease). It's a fully-loaded Dakota Laramie complete with the 4.7-liter V-8, leather interior, 17" Aluminum/Chrome Wheels, upgraded Infinity sound-system w/ in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 player, SIRIUS Satelite radio, and just about every other imaginable option. I was watching Future weapons and found that they have a bullet that can be basically a point and shoot at 2500 yards on a cold bore shot. Thats very impressive I would bow down to that. But I remember reading about gravity, elevation, temperature, and all those other variables that effect a ballistic path. Its not like you can line up the cross hairs and go. you had to mentally do all the math from your GPS, offset your X hairs, and commit. I believe my longest one is 1,917 yards but about 5 minutes after that shot I don't remember anything but waking up that night in a Medic tent in unbearable pain. Sadly the Guy that saved me that day died on my birthday this year. …

Since I've rehooked up my stereo surround sound I've been on a movie trip. I did go rent two movies that I have never seen, that being "Waiting" featuring my favorite actor Ryan Reynolds. Then, naturally I had to get a Nick Cage movie which was "God Of War" Now, I'm about 3o minutes into Team America World Police which I just love this movie about as much as Van Wilder. Any movies you absolutely must watch when you sit down to catch a movie, or do you ever find yourself going on "movie binges" of one after another after another?

So Readers Digest has this contest where you show your "spirit" for your town (or a town) in order for the town to win money towards an improvement. The town my dad grew up in and my aunt and uncle still live is currently in second place in the "population under 99,000" category, and are trying to win $40,000 towards making the town library handicap accessible. In addition, all individuals are entered into a contest to win $35,000 towards a car and roadtrip across America. Feel free to vote for your own town/city, but if you don't care and just want to have the chance to win a car and trip, please vote here: http://wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com/town.jsp?town=FAIRB…

I came across a few old car commericals in the past few days, and thought I would share it. With the exception of 1 commerical, the rest represent everything that was bad about advertising in the 70's and 80's. Cheesyness to the utmost extreme...... bad music, lots and lots of it (with the exception of 1 song). http://www.ttzd.com/movies/archive/300_01l.mpg This first one is an ad for the Nissan (or as metioned in the ad, Datsun) 300ZX. I think it's 1984. Keep an eye out for a feature that's on a '06 Civic. http://www.ttzd.com/movies/archive/n_r_t.mpg This is also a 300ZX, but from 1995. GIJoe. Barbie. Van Halen. Ok, so this is kind of a stupid story, but here goes. his moring I was pulling into the North Campus parking lot at college. Usually you can just drive through, but today there was agate installed. that gate has been there before, but it gets broken all the time, so they usually leave busted, but today yet another one was up. This threw me off, so when i came to a stop I was too far away from teh terminal to swipe my ID. Then another car pulling in behind me. I got out of the car, swiped it, got back in, and pulled away, but I was doing itin a bit of a rush, cuz there's a time limit on that gate. In my rush, I grazed the damn pole that the gate is connected to. i was so…

Aaaahhhh....that fresh, newly-washed look is so intoxicating...isn't it? I finally washed my older 4 Monte Carlos this past Saturday [the '87 MC LS daily driver will get its second cleaning of the year this coming weekend, weather permitting, of course]...partly to have them ready for the July 26 gathering here, in case it IS sunny...but mostly to get the "winter dust" off them. Now, they all just look and "feel" so much better! Sure makes a difference when they are clean; driving them after a fresh wash is a bit invigorating, imho. Hmmm...does anyone else who has multiple cars notice that each car as its own "personality"? It just seems that each of my MCs have a d…

We'll more and more evidence that we are heading towards a bear market. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-next-bear-market-in-stocks-will-spark-a-retirement-crisis-2018-06-27 Social Security has started to tap trust funds that will run out by 2034. Medicare has increased using trust funds that are expected to be depleted by 2026. End result is both programs are expected to be insolvent and the gov continues to increase spending on defense over taking care of the country. 10,000 baby boomers retire every day making this an even bigger uglier mess. Okay, by now you've seen that I'm going to sell the SKY soon and it's apparent that I am also trying to get rid of the AURA too. Not that there's anything wrong with either car (how I'd love to kkeep them both), but the wife informed me recently that we are living way beyond our means. After making as many changes as possible to help save where we could, it still boils down that the SKY needs to be sold to pay off other debt, and triming our remaining car payments down would really help too. She said for the Envoy to go, but I told her that the lease has 11 months remaining and I really like the Envoy. So that leads to the AURA having to go, which I'm working on with …

I voted for the (452 ci, ohc V16) Cadillac, as should YOU! http://autoshow.autos.msn.com/autoshow/peb...h2008/vote.aspx This poll is so damn arbitrary and randomly nonsensical the only reason why I cared was to give props to the V16 powered pre-war car, and by extension GM/Caddy.

As many others are lately I'm sure, I've been cleaning up around the house. The paper shredder is either dead or recovering after today. We'll see once it cools off if it works again. Anyway, came across this in a box of stuff... not sure what its from or where I acquired it?

There's a 2004 Colorado LS regular cab 4X4 with 143k and a five cylinder for sale at a local well-established used car dealer. Asking $7995. What do you guys think? Looks clean from here:

I was wondering, after I saw a white 06 Miata with a chocolate top, why the Sky and Solstice only have black cloth tops and no optional colors. Does the Corvette still offer multiple colors for its convertible top? I know you USE to be able to choose from white, brown, or black...not sure if you can anymore. Anyway, guess my point is basically GM should definitely offer more than black for the Kappa top color, because that chocolate on white Miata was a damn good looking car.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... every evening this week I've tried to get in to the gym. But the parking lot is full to capacity, with 4 or 5 cars blocking the aisles, following people to their cars so they can grab their spots. It's this way every January since I joined there a few years ago. By next month, I predict all will be normal again, and the couch potatoes will plant themselves once more. Sigh.

Anybody heard any interesting ones? I especially like when they do the video too. Here are a few I've found that I like: Nine Inch Nails vs The Beatles: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bM7tdWRkBp0 Green Day vs Oasis (with Travis and Eminem thrown in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5xPh0M2Egs...om%2Flotd%2Ehtm Jay-Z vs The Beatles:

In the first of a new series of Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May head for the Isle of Man to decide which is best: the new baby Aston Martin - the V8 Vantage, BMW M6 or Porsche 911 Carrera S; car cultures clash when the Austin Healey Sprite takes on a Peugeot 307 in a hill climb challenge and a supercar - the Ascari AKZ1 takes to the track. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...9421&q=top+gear *Broadband might help you out.

I am giving a speech on the impact of the UAW on the American auto industry, and have been looking everywhere for yearly earnings reports for GM, Ford, and Chrysler, as well as information on the cost of pensions and healthcare for union workers. Any help or places to look for info would be awesome!

Right now it's only available to business customers of Sprint, however in November it will be available to consumers as well. Such a kick ass device! I thought about getting the 6600 but held off when I got word of the 6700. http://www.sprint.com/business/products/ph...llPcsPhones.jsp

I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but I am GM to the core except for one thing.... XM sucks and Sirius is the best. Anybody else here listen to Howard Stern or Bubba the Love Sponge? I hear now that you can get a new "brain" for your car to switch the radio from XM to Sirius.

I have a question for you- If there any way to download a copy of Mircosoft Word? (Excel wouldn't be bad either) The 2003 version is fine..I have Works on this computer...but it's turning out to be a PITA to deal with. I've been it lately for a bunch of stuff...and I don't want to have to pay 130 bucks if I don't have to....

I am trying to install a new aftermarket stereo into my Lumina and have some questions about the wiring. The wiring harness kit I have matches up with the stereo wiring, but some of the wires from the stereo have little metal tips with plastic covers. Since I am using plastic butt connectors and not solder to connect the wires, can I just cut off these ends? What are they for?

I dont know how many here are into winter sports or at least watching them. I'm not much on sports but downhill ski racing has always been on my list. The legs become the ultimate shock absorbers, the fine edge of the ski carves the perfect arch, the knees and hips all but touching the surface as the body leans and fights the lateral g's to keep those edges at the perfect angle. 85+mph on your feet against a mountain and ice...... the ultimate adreneline rush. The Olympics are on !

Over at the Autoweek Combustion Chamber forum, one of the admins put up a thread warning members not to post pics from Brenda Priddy & Co, but to link to them instead. Some smartass put up a picture of Brenda Priddy and asked something like "OK, but what about pictures of Brenda Priddy herself? It was amusing.
